Chapter 16: Mid Morning Attack
That night I slept better then I ever had before, and I dreamed. This dream was different from all the others I had had. This time it was in my own world. I dreamed I was at school, just a normal day. I was in maths class, listening to boring lectures about algebra, like anyone is interested. My maths class was in a two story building, used for the year elevens and twelves. I was in a good mood, thinking back to the humungous battle between the king and the resistance, a battle that we won. I was daydreaming as well, which didn't sit well with my maths teacher. I imagined that the king came to our world, looking for revenge.
I was writing down down a maths probablem when I felt a huge force of magic being cast, then the building exploded. I was throwen against the back wall, then the floor caved in. All of us, the teacher included fell down. Some of the kids cried out in pain when we landed. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few broken bones.
I slowly got up from the floor and groaned. I felt another spell being cast, so I lifted my hand and cast a protective spell, creating a firewall around the people in the room.
"Everyone stay calm!" yelled the teacher, who was struggling to get to his feet.
I cast my mind out to find the attacker. Then I felt a sudden hit to my stomach, then another, and another.
I woke up, gasping. Reflamen was bouncing on my stomach again.
"REFLAMEN!" I yelled.
Relfamen bounced on my stomach one more time the jumped into the floor. I scowled at him, noticing how much he had grown since yesterday. He was now almost the size of a small pony.
"You know, next time that happens, You might kill me!" I said.
'Hey, you didn't wake up,' said Reflamen with a hint of a smile.
"Well you could at least dump a water bucket on me or something," I instantly regreated what I said.
Reflamen's eyes lit up, 'That is a good idea, I'll do that next time.'
"You're sick," I said.
Relfamen seemed to shrug, 'Hey, it's five fifty, you might want to make your way to Leviete's now.'
I sighed and got myself out of bead. I undreast and put on my days clothes. Reflamen looked at me strangely.
"What?" I said.
'Why do humans wear clothes?' he asked.
I hesitated, "Because we do."
'But you often complain about hoe hot it is, If you didn't wear clothes then it wouldn't so hot,' said Reflamen.
"We have dignity," I replied, then ran out of the tent, hoping I wasn't late to Leviete.
'What's that exposed to mean?' said Reflamen, running along side me.
I ignored him.
'Hey, you didn't answer my question!' yelled Reflamen.
We arrived at Leviete's tent exactly on time. Leviete walked out.
"Hello," said Leviete, "Glad to see your on time, again. Keep this up."
I smiled, "Well I probably would off been late, except I was woken up by a baby dragon, again."
Leviete smiled, "Good, now to continue you training. This time I want you to stay here until lunch, then we can see if you'll faint or not. If you do, then we know what to expect in the future."
I nodded.
"Okay, let's start," said Leviete leading me out into the clearing, "Let's start."
We trained for hours. At about seven thirty, Reflamen left for his training.
"The spells we learnt were difficult and exhausting. At one point I had to summon a lightning bolt, which was by far the hardest thing I had to do so far. I also learnt how to grow a tree, make a fire wall, and condense water into ice. At nine we went out to get breakfast.
"So," said Leviete, "Which do you prefer, our world or yours."
I was honestly surprised at the question, "Um, I honestly like this world better. I prefer the rough stile of living, their's a lot less distractions, and I'm more important."
"Yes," said Leviete with a smile, "Even if you weren't so powerful you would have a dragon, and that alone makes you important."
I smiled. We sat in silence, eating what was left of our breakfast of toasted bread and milk.
"Okay, let's get back to the clearing," said Leviete.
As we walked back something came to me. and I stopped, realizing what it was.
"Hey, I think we're going to be attacked soon," I said.
Leviete stopped, "That's right, the day after Derrick comes back we'll get attacked, why didn't I think of that."
I shook my head, I was starting to feel dizzy.
"Hopefully I don't faint in the middle of the battle," I said.
'Yes, that would be prefered," said Leviete.
I smiled, "I wonder if the sword will protect me while I'm sleeping."
"I don't think so," said Leviete, also smiling.
We went to the clearing and continued our training. As we did the dizziness got stronger and stronger.
"I think it is going to happen," I said, as I sat down for another break, trying to get rid of the strange feeling.
"Yes probably," replied Leviete.
It was now almost ten thirty, and that was when the attack was going to take place. In my mind the battle would go on for hours, and the resistance would just win, but only because Derrick uses the forbidden blade.
At the moment of the attack I was busy trying to use will to lift up a large rock. It was shifting slightly but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't lift up the rock. It was then I heard I scream, the scream of a little girl. Leviete and I rushed around to the other side of the tent to see a group of almost a hundred men climbing over the top of the cliff.
I made my twin swords appear in my hands. I knew an almost identicle group was climbing over the other side of the mountain,
'Reflamen, where are you?' I asked.
'I'm coming towards you, don't worry I'll be alright, Just hold up until I get there,' said Reflamen.
'That should be easy enough,' I replied.
"Ready Leviete," I said.
"As I'll ever be," he said.
The soldiers looked saw us first.
"GET THEM!" said one of the soldiers, "KILL THE OLD MAN, THE KING WANTS THE KID ALIVE."
"Oh that's it," I said, I had been called kid enough these past few days.
I charged at them, swords raised. I ducked the first stroke, then struck, feeling my sword stick into a mans flesh wasn't the best feeling. The man fell. I had taken a life. My body swung around to block another blow from the left. I did easily. I then cut the mans throat with a stroke from my second sword, I was still trying to figure out which sword was which, they both looked exactly the same.
Leviete was doing very well, considering he was the most powerful magicain in the resistance. Every time a man came near him he blasted them away with a strong gust of wind, making them go flying of the cliff.
I was cutting my way through the soldiers until I was surrounded on all sides. I connected the hilts of my swords, making them turn into the flaming staff. The soldiers backed off, they weren't expecting this. Suddenly a wave of dizziness washed over. I went down on one knee, trying to fight the dizziness off. A soldier took the chance and struck at me. My staff sweeped into the way of the sword, cutting it completely in half. I then twisted and stabbed the staff into the mans stomach. The man screamed in pain, the staff had melted the mans skin, and was cooking his insides. I took the staff out then swung my staff at the mans head, cutting it clean off.
The soldiers rushed at me again. I took the staff apart, back into the swords, and started to cut my way back through the army, to Leveite. Leveite had produced a protective fire shield around him and was blasting the men outside to oblivion.
'Hey Derrick!' yelled Reflamen from above, 'Jump up!'
I did as the little dragon instructed me to. Reflamen swooped down and caught the back of my shirt, and started to fly me above the battle. He opened his mouth a let out a stream of scorching fire, that turned anyone, unfortunate enough to get hit by it, into ash.
'Wow, you're heavy, what have you been eating,' said Reflamen, trying his best to stay up in the air.
'I'm not that heavy, I'm actually pretty light, but you're just not string enough to carry a human yet, so put me down!' I yelled at the baby dragon.
'Okay, okay, I'll put you down,' he swooped down to a safer place. and landed.
"Why did you take me anyway?" I asked.
'It's almost twleve o'clock, and that's when you faint,' said Reflamen.
"Oh," I said, then groaned as a wave of dizziness came over me.
'Get into the house!' said Reflamen. A pod of soldiers had seen us land and were running towards us.
'But..'
'No buts, just get into the house, you're in no condition to fight!'
'But what about you?'
'I'll be fine, now just go!'
I rushed towards the house that Reflamen had mentioned. As soon as I was inside, I huge wave of dizziness overwelmed me. The last thing I remembered was Reflamen's battle cry.
