Chapter 12: Lessons with Leviete

I was woken up by the sensation of a baby dragon bouncing up and down on my stomch, again. This time, when I woke up, I pounced immediatly for Reflamen, taking the little dragon down. The problem was, he had grown, a lot. In one night he had grown from the size of a cat to a size of a small goat.

"REFLAMEN!" I yelled.

Reflamen bounced of my stomach and onto the ground. I groaned and rolled out of bed, litterelly. I had been winded.

"Why?" I said to myself.

Reflamen was laughing so hard that flames were coming out of his nostrels.

"You know you could just dunk a bucket of water on me, instead of bouncing on my stomach," I said to the dragon.

'Now where would be the fun in that,' said Reflamen.

I sighed and lifted up my shirt to see hundreds of scratches covering my stomach.

"Your claws are getting sharper," I said, "and you're a lot bigger then yesterday.

'I know!' said Reflamen, 'It's awsome!'

I looked out of the tent to see the sun just coming up from the horizon.

"What time is it?" I asked.

'About five thirty,'' replied Reflamen.

"Okay," I said.

I took of my shirt and put on a new one, then put on some long leather pants. I stretched and yawned.

I didn't have my lesson until six, so I decided to walk around the village.

I walked of the tent and looked into the sky. It was a beautiful morning, not a cloud in sight and the sun just starting to come up, making the sky light up with a mixture of orange and purple.

I started to walk to the bakery and got some breakfast, just a few peices of bread. I walked over to the cliff face and sat down, watching the sun rise. Reflamen lay down next to me. I started to run my hands across his scales. He pured gently. We sat there for what seemed like eternity, watching the sun slowly rise.

"Beautiful, isn't it," said a femine voice from behind us.

Both me and Reflamen spun around. It was Charole. She was standing there, looking battle ready, but she looked tired, like there was a lot on her mind.

"Aah, hi," I said.

She smiled at me, "Hey, I didn't know you came out here."

I smiled, "No, I just got woken up early by some dragon."

I pointed at Reflamen. Reflamen snorted.

'He never wakes up,' he said to both of us.

"So he can talk," said Charole, "I wondered if he could. How long...?"

"Since I woke up," I said.

Charole nodded then walked over and sat by me. I felt slightly nervous, but not as much as I usually did.

"It is beautiful," I said.

She smiled.

We sat together for a while. Before I asked, "What time is it?"

"Five fifty," said Charole, "Why?"

"I need to be at Leviete's at six," I said.

Charole nodded. We sat there for a few moments before we both got up and looked at each other.

"Aah... I probably need to go now," I said.

"Yeah," She sounded somewhat awkward as well, "I need to... yeah."

I nodded, "I'll se you later, I guess."

She nodded, "See ya."

WIth that she sprinted of, she probably had somewhere to be as well. I sighed and got up.

"Come on Reflamen, we need to be some where," I said.

Reflamen stood up and shook himself, 'She seems nice enough.'

I smiled, 'Are you going to judge every girl I meet.'

'Hey! Remember, when you find a mate I'm going to have to live with her to,' said Reflamen, 'And if she's an annoying brat then I'm going to probably burn her up. I'm just making sure you pick the right person.'

I sighed and rolled my eyes, 'You sound just like my mum and dad.'

With that I started to walk towards Leviete's tent. It took about five minutes so we were slightly early. I sat down on the grass, waiting for Leviete to come out. He did, at exactly six o'clock.

"Hello," said Leviete, "Glad to see you made it on time. I was told you were a heavy sleeper."

"Having an early morning dragon helps," I said with a smile.

Leviete smiled back, "So come inside and we'll start."

He opened the flap and we walked inside. It was very dark. Leviete summoned a small flame to his hand, lighting up the room some what.

"Sit down," said Leviete guesturing to a chair.

I did.

"Now, from what I've heard and from what I saw yesterday, you have a different way of casting magic then we do," said Leviete, "A way that allows it so that you don't have a loss of energy when you cast it."

I nodded.

"I want to know how you do it?" said Leviete, "Rogan said you 'imagine' what you are about to do, but I don't think that's quite true."

"It is true," I said, "I litteraly imagine what I'm about to do."

Leviete frowned, "Are you sure?"

"Yes," I replied.

Leviete seemed to hesitate for a second, "Do you mind if I look into your mind and see how you do it?"

This time I hesitated. Leviete looking into my mind was something I wanted to avoid, because of the way he might react. In my book he is a very unpredictable character, even I had trouble knowing what he would do next, but I also knew that he wouldn't give up the country to save someone's life.

"You can trust me, I have been into the mind of almost everyone in the village," he said, "Only four people haven't opened their mind to me before."

"I know," I said, "But I'm worried about what you'll do if I open my mind to you," I said, "I have some very big secrets, and I'm worried that the more people who now about them the better the chance that someone may die that isn't exsposed to die, or even worse, the king could have his way."

Leviete cocked his head to one side, "What do you meen?"

"I know I can trust you, Leviete, but what might happen if I show you my mind, it might alter the cause of time," I said, "So you must promise me this, no matter what you see in my mind, you must promise you won't attempt to change it. Promise me that."

Leviete hesitated for a second, "What might I see?"

"The future," I said, "the past, and the present. You'll discover new worlds and a way of thinking you have never seen before."

He hesitated again, "I promise I won't share with anyone what I have seen, and I promise that I won't attempt to change the furture, no matter what it is."

"Thank you," I said.

I then imagined the fire wall around my mind to disappear, but I was ready to put it back up if anyone else tried to acces it. Leviete entered my mind slowly. It felt sort of uncomfortable, like something that is sticking into your side, bt doesn't actually hurt.

Leviete explored my mind for over an hour, surprised at some things he saw, and interested in others. Eventually he pulled out of my mind. He didn't speek for a few seconds, contimplating what he saw.

"You are the most interesting person I've ever met," said Leviete, "Creating a whole new world from your thoughts, imagining things into existance. I don't think their has ever, in the history of this world, been a person like you before. But I think I understand more about why you're so powerful. I don't think the 'magic' you cast is magic. I think it is you imagination allowing you to do that. Magic is quite different from what you can do. Also I think that you realise the power you hold. You have the power to alter the world as we know it. Honestly, I'm glad your on our side."

I smiled. We were silent for a second, before Leviete broke the silence.

"I don't like what will happen to Sophire," he said, "but I will except it. I always thought that something would happen to her, I don't know why."

"I know," I said.

Leviete smiled, "So, I want to work on your actual magic. You already know how to cast magic, but you need to know how to use it."

I nodded.

Leviete got up and guestured for me to follow him. I did. We made our way out of the tent and into a small clearing. Leviete picked up a leaf and made it levitate in mid air. Reflamen followed us.

"Burn this leaf," said Leviete, "Without using your imagination."

I nodded and took a deep breath.

'Fire!' I said in my mind. The leaf burst into flames. I suddenly felt exhausted. I slumped to the ground.

"No!" said Leviete, "You put to much energy into your spell. You must learn to limit the power in each spell. Again, but this time don't just scream fire in your mind. Tell the leaf to burn slowly and steadily. Let it flicker into a flame instead of burst into flame."

Leviete made another leaf levitate.

I took another deep breath. I focused on the leaf, trying not to imagine the leaf bursting into flames. I called on my energy and let it focus on the leaf.

'Burn,' I said in my mind.

A small tounge of fire flickered to life on the leaf. The leaf shriveld up quickly.

"Well done, now for the next exersize."

We continued our magic for another two hours. Doing different types of magic, like summoning a lightning bolt, or making a leaf levitate in the air. Eventually we finished and I sat down exhausted.

"Well done," said Leviete, "I will meet you again tomorrow, same time. After that you will probably be unconscious for another three days, in this world anyway, but after that I expect you to meet me at my tent six o'clock every morning. No excuses for being late."

I nodded.

"Okay, now Rogan is in the training fields waiting for you," said Leviete, "So of you go."

I did, with Reflamen close behind.

'I think I'm late,' said Relfamen.

I laughed.
