Pills

"Did you light the fire?"

"Yup."

"What about the clothes? Did you pack them? Did you re-"

"Yes Claire, I did everything you asked. I even made dinner." with a sly smile, I passed her a stick covered in the grilled remains of a small chicken. A fine delicacy, yet such a hard thing to come across.

With awe she picked the stick from my hand, touching mine in the process."Y-you did all this for me?" her deep amber eyes look stunning in the warm glow of the fire, even though her face is tainted black with charcoal and dust.

"For who else would I do such a thing?" I say, taking her hand in mine. "We are, after all, the only ones here."

She stays silent for just a minute, taking in her surroundings. The familiar sound of the nightingale fills the night, chirping and filling the air with it's sweet song. Life was fine seconds ago, when we didn't have to worry about wolves or bears. When we didn't have to scavenge for sticks and flint just to make a fire and survive the night. I sometimes laugh myself to sleep, thinking about how life can change so easily on you.

"Danny?"

"Yes?"

"Thank you-"she takes a moment to sigh before speaking again-"for everything, really. I would never make it out alive if it weren't for you."

I stare longingly at her, wishing that none of this had ever happened to us. The view was beautiful really, a lovely fire flickering and feeding off of the glowing red strips of bark, outlining a gorgeous purple sunset. Carefully, I gave her hand a slight reassuring squeeze.

"I miss Tyler, don't you?" She asks, looking up at the sky.

Vague strips of memory pass through my brain of laughing and playing with a short brown- haired jock. My friend; Tyler. The one true male friend I had.

"Yeah, I miss him. I miss him a lot." I reply, looking at her tainted face.

A small tear streaks down her face, followed by others. She doesn't seem to mind at all, smiling feebly at the disappearing sunset.

"You think he would've liked it here?" Claire asks, not laying a finger on her meal.

I stop to think for a moment. Other than the horrendous creatures, pitch black nights, and limited food supply, I'm pretty sure Tyler would greatly admire such wilderness.

"I'm sure he would, Claire." I say, placing my hand on her shoulder.

She smiles and looks back down at the ground.

"I bet he would be able to explain all the details and wonders of this place at night." She says, sighing, "If only I could do the same."

A sudden saltiness comes over me, making my mouth go dry. I try to speak, yet she interrupts me.

"I- I'm sor-."

"No, you don't have to be sorry. It wasn't your fault anyways." She says, looking up at me.

Her eyes, beautiful as ever, are hazy and white. Internally, I feel a giant pain in my chest that refuses to reside.

I recall the plane crash clearly, the memories a reminder of how cruel life really is.

Claire and her friend Linda were busily talking on the left side of the private airplane while Lance and Tyler were laughing at a joke I had previously made. They had called me chicken for not fully completing a dare, one concerning Claire. I had then teased Lance for doing the same, which later caused Tyler to dare us both.

The pilot was not meant to be disturbed, but our mischief said otherwise. Lance and I secretly made our way to the front of the plane, searching for the small white and orange bottle. We eventually had to enter the pilot compartment. That was probably the worst thing I had done in my life. I messed up, badly.

I remember telling Lance to snatch the bottle, snickering at how 'dumb' the pilot was. He quickly passed it to me as I went and filled up a cup of juice, popping a pill inside.

Laughing, we entered the passengers compartment, ready to pull our prank when the plane suddenly lurched forwards. The sounds of glass breaking was heard, along with the screams we recognized as Claire and Linda. Rushing into the room, I grab Claire as Lance holds on to Linda. Tyler is backed up against the sides, holding his arms up as a sign of protection.

The cup I was previously holding had spilled on the floor, it's contents emptying. Another lurch causes me to fall forwards, with Claire in my arms.

"The pilot! Get the goddamn pilot!" Tyler yells, running towards the compartment containing first aid supplies.

Letting go of Claire, I run towards the pilot compartment, jumping over some sort of glass structure. Once I reach the inside, I peer down at a slouching figure, which is silently shaking. The pilot. In pure shock, I stare down at the area where the pill had once been. A slightly folded paper shows a prescription, faded at the edges. The word Eliquis is seen at the corner, slightly bolded.

Eliquis? Isn't that like some sort of blood thinner or some thing? Like aspirin?

That's when adrenaline suddenly shoots through my veins, making me sound the emergency alarm. In the process of this, however, I accidentally hit another button, making the plane lurch forwards again. This time, it's stays that way. Altitude. We're losing altitude!

I curse under my breath.

In a hurry, I rush out of the room, watching as the smoke rises and pollutes the air. Relieved at seeing everyone safe, I motion for all of us to huddle. Red lights go on and off, accompanied by a blaring alarm.

"What the hell is happening?" Lance asks, looking at me.

The rest follow, also staring at me.

"The pilot he- he... had a heart attack." I stutter out.

Linda's eyes suddenly widen as she grabs onto Lance's arm and begins to weep.

"The pilot was her uncle, one of her only relatives." Lance says, placing his other arm around her.

I hear another crash, along with the sliding of other movable objects.

"I know it may be hard for you to digest the fact that your uncle is de-"

"You don't know that!" Linda shrieks, cutting Tyler off.

"Linda, you dont know if he's alive eit-"

"Shut up! Shut up!" She screamed, releasing herself from Lance's grip and running towards the pilot compartment.

"Wait! Linda, No!" Lance saiys, making an unsuccesful attempt to stop her.

Without warning, the whole plane is shook with unhuman strength, followed by a loud bang. The plane collides with the peak of a mountain, causing a part of it to rip off, metal and all. Linda is suddenly sucked out, her screams drowned out by the wind.

Lance tries to go after her, but Tyler actually stops him. However, Lance's momentum almost causes them both to fall out the hole.

The plane then flips over, sending both Lance and Tyler crashing towards the ceiling. A loose chair breaks Claire's fall as well as mine, but the rest aren't so lucky. Unconscious, Lance slips out through the hole while Tyler sits there, bloody and maybe even... dead.

Claire let's out a small whimper. Not only of pain, but also of shock. She then starts hyperventilating, hands and body pale. In my entire life, I'd honestly say that I've never seen her in such conditions. She was always our leader, the mother of the group. Now, she just looked helpless. All I could do was stare at Tyler as the plane fell down the mountain, thinking how terrible life really was. How I would never see my friends again.

When I woke up in a dark forest, my first thought was 'Am I in Heaven?' But of course, it couldn't be dark, and I was also in pain. My eyes widened suddenly when I saw Claire holding her hands out, yelling my name.

"Danny? Danny where are you? Why is it so dark?"

As fast as I could, I jumped up and grabbed Claire. She shrieked when she felt me but later calmed down.

"Danny? Is that you? Why can't I see you?"

I was starting to get worried. It was pretty dark, but not dark enough to not see each other.

"Claire, I'm right here." I say, holding her chin up so she could see me, but she still didnt.

At first, I thought it was just that she had developed some sort of breif impairment with her eyes due to the accident. However, when I had woken her up the next day, she didn't see the sun that was supposedly staring at her face. Thats when I realized, she was blind. Permanently.

Here we are now, 'watching' the sunset and counting the days left until someone would arrive and pick us up. Though we long for company, we find each other enough and I'm grateful for still having her. She may be different now, unable to see everything the way I do, but I'll always make sure she's safe.

Hey guys. I know, this chapter is super long, probably the longest one I've ever made, but I did this for a reason. If you follow either Rynea10 or Kuro_Pixie, then you know what has recently happened. Though I didnt know her as well as others may, she will still have a special little place in my heart, hence why I dedicate this chapter to both Kuro_Pixie and @Rynea10  . If only I hadn't lived so far away, I would've tried to at least attend a funeral or make a proper dedication.

I give thanks to all my followers and those who help me as well as those who support me.

Thank you, everyone, for reading.

Roxy out...
