◦ after getting to know each other for a few weeks, sterling made an offhand comment during a live the two were doing about how grey reminded him of the animal; both in the way they looked at times and in the way they operated day to day. and as time went on, both the rest of the group and the fans agreed with his earlier statement. but, the nickname really caught on after the group's first fan meeting'. a fan gave grey a headband with bear ears attached, which they obviously put on immediately, and continued to wear for the rest of the fan meeting. when the pictures of them from that day were released, auras and the boys ended up swooning, and the nickname stuck.

◦ from day one, grey was the quietest out of all the boys. not necessarily in a bad way; but they made it clear that they weren't who talks just hear the sound of their voice. but that, mixed with the very sporadic presence the man has online, led to him being labeled as a ghost because of their ability to simultaneously be there and not there at any given time.

◦ grey is an amazing lyricist, which is a well-known fact among anyone who pays attention to their music. but, most people don't know that they have a specific talent for writing love songs, and most of the ones that iMAGE has put out were written to some degree by them. which led to dylan calling them lover boy; especially because in real life they tend to get flustered around people when romance or flirting is involved.

grey has always been a very introverted and quiet person. it's typical for them to remain unseen in a room of people; often hidden away in some corner in the back. which some people have felt bad about, but they've never been bothered by it. they enjoy being an enigma among the people they're around and being secretive about what they think or feel, despite many of their friends stating that they're actually extremely easy to read. which they hate because the idea of anyone knowing everything about them is terrifying.

though that isn't to say they don't have anything to say. they've always been a very observant person, and by extension have always been very analytical. their head is always filled with something; whether it be the inspiration for a song or criticism of something someone around them has said, there is never a moment of silence in their head. and that can make it very hard for them to function normally. it can make them come across as aloof or cold, especially when someone is talking to them about something important, but in reality, they are extremely empathetic towards other people.

but even if they're drowning in their thoughts, they have always tried to be as helpful as they can as often as they can. they aren't the kind of person to be very vocal or in your face about it, instead opting for being a good listener and hopefully exuding a sense of comfort for the members who need it. from almost day one, they made it clear that they were there to listen if someone needed to get something off their chest and offer advice if that was wanted. but, more than anything they've always been a very physically focused person, so they're the go-to person whenever someone needs some physical contact.

they've always struggled with their mental health to some degree, especially depression and anxiety, which can be a big reason why they get quiet at times. they can easily get stuck in their head, which usually ends up with them feeling insecure. and when they're feeling like that, they often end up withdrawing from others and willingly isolating themself. they struggle with being open and honest with others and prefer to solve things independently whenever possible. which usually ends up in them pushing themselves too far, crashing, and then other people needing to help him anyway.

it makes it hard to throw themselves into music the way they want to, but they try to regardless. they're very passionate about it, and it's the one thing that they can focus on when they often struggle with having a short attention span. with such little energy to put into things at times, they've always been very dedicated when it comes to the things they care about and are often touted as the group's hardest worker.

overall, grey is just a person who wants to make and do meaningful things with their life. and with that, they also want to create a community of people who all feel connected and heard, like they've always wanted to feel.

◎ social anxiety disorder
grey has struggled in social situations for as long as he can remember, though that didn't become evident until he started school. he greatly struggled to make friends with any of his classmates regardless of how much he wanted to, so he eventually gave up on trying and decided to keep to himself. which is what led to his mom taking him to get officially diagnosed.

though he's gotten better at dealing with the anxiety is brings, the level of anxiety has never really lessened, which is why he sleeps as much as he does. trying to either refill his social battery or keep it from depleting is a constant part of his daily routine much to his annoyance, but he's also happy that it's now something he has the ability to deal with. which is why he rarely complains or draws attention to the disorder.

◎ generalized anxiety disorder
though it's not as bad as his social anxiety, it's definitely still a problem. most of those worries still come back around to social situations, but they also extend to all of the people around him. which sometimes leads to him spacing out because his mind will start spiraling; though that doesn't happen that often. he's a lot better at catching himself when it comes to that situation.

a result of social anxiety as opposed to something that exists on its own; it really only shows itself when he feels isolated or is frustrated by his inability to communicate. it used to pop up all the time because of how isolated he was when he was younger, but after joining iMAGE it's now something that only happens for short periods of time.

he's always been a very quiet kid, and that combined with his social anxiety eventually led to it manifesting by the time he turned twelve. originally it exclusively happened at school, which wasn't only made things slightly more difficult for him since he already rarely talked when he was there. but it followed him as he grew up and now it most frequently shows up in certain interview situations or when his social battery has been pushed beyond its limit and he still has to interact with other people.

[ ◉¯] ✧˖° BACKGROUND:

born in new york city to a waitress and a bartender, the first few years of grey's life were mostly unremarkable. their parents fought a lot; never physically but since the two had strong personalities they often clashed and rarely managed to work it out. and that combined with their minimal income led to an unsurprising divorce between the couple.

after some heated arguments, grey and their mom moved to south korea and began living in a cramped house with their grandparent, and their life became even more unremarkable. they were a really quiet kid who spent their time either in their room or spending time with their family, and ignored any attempt other kids made to befriend them; which was oddly endearing when they were younger but more worrying when they grew older.

around the time they turned nine, their mom started sending them to a therapist in hopes it would help them emerge from their shell, which it didn't, instead revealing that they had severe anxiety. and that anxiety seemed to grow in intensity as they grew older, ultimately culminating in grey developing selective mutism by the time they turned twelve. and in a last-ditch effort to help them, their mom sent them back to the us to live with dad despite their distant relationship.

they spent the first week with their dad in complete silence but their dad didn't seem to mind. he took them to hole-in-the-wall diners, overcrowded museums, underrated stores, and misplaced parks while filling the silence with conversation. and it stayed that way until a fateful night when the two were sitting together in their cramped living room.

they were busy writing in their journal, and for a while, their father was tinkering away on his computer. then all of a sudden music filled the living room and their dad was singing along to every song that played, and surprisingly grey found themself liking what they heard, which finally pushed them into speaking with their dad. because while there was music back home with their mom and grandparents it was nothing like what their dad was listening to.

music became their thing, at least initially. they would spend their evenings sitting together in the living room listening to songs grey had never heard before, and eventually, their dad started taking them with him to shows. at first, they didn't know what to do with themself and would just stand in the back of the room; arms folded and their back leaning against the while they took in everything going on around them. and then that eventually morphed into them being pulled into the middle of the crowd by their dad with the claim that being closer would help them feel the music better. which they hated, but it did help their love of music grow.

courtesy of their dad they ended up backstage at most of the shows they went to, who somehow knew everybody, and that's what led to them making music. getting to talk to people and ask them about their process and getting invited to studios made them want to do what they were doing — and it helped their selective mutism, which hadn't disappeared but became less of a problem.

with help from their dad and the musicians they somehow became friends with, they started writing raps and teaching themself how to make music, and they took to it like a duck to water. after about a year they started looking for ways to share their music with more people; ones they could trust would honestly tell them if their music sucked or not. and that led him to the world of nyc's underground music scene, where they started making a name for themselves as a rapper you couldn't predict. one minute they'd be mercilessly cutting down any rapper that tried coming against them, and the next moment spilling out their soul for strangers.

they carried all of that back to south korea with them and ended up building a similar reputation for themselves back there, but after a year they found themself wanting to do more. even though they didn't care about fame, they did want more people to listen to and hopefully be able to identify with their music. and they were tired of making music alone; they were starting to find the whole experience very isolating.

so, after a year of begging, they managed to convince their parents (mostly their mom though) to let them join one of the entertainment companies they'd been heavily researching they got back to their mom and grandparents' house. they auditioned for a few companies and got accepted by most of them, but they ultimately ended up going with rebel entertainment because of how accommodating the company was willing to be towards them and because of the guarantee that they would debut.

within the first weeks of training, it became obvious that on top of their rapping and music-producing talents, they also had a natural affinity for dancing, which helped them bond with the other members because of the various times they ended up helping someone else with either their dancing or writing. and by the time the group debuted, they ended up becoming close with everyone.

though as happy as they were to be making music with their friends; the sudden influx of attention and judgment was also the precursor to their selective mutism making itself known more often. it had become something that only really happened when they were overwhelmed; which happened the most when they were doing promotions or suddenly overwhelmed by fans. but with everyone in the group learning early on that sometimes they literally couldn't speak, it was suddenly something they didn't have to worry about as much because they could always count on their group mates to speak in their place. leaving them to only have to worry about continuing to release good music and helping as many people as possible.

◎ grey started journaling when they moved to nyc to live with their dad. their mom had gifted them one right before they left, along with instructions to write down everything that happened so they wouldn't forget and to use it to keep track of how they were feeling. they ended up completely filling it within a month, and from that point, they continued using it at the end of every day, regardless of how tired they were. they would force themself to sit down and write down whatever they needed to for at least thirty minutes.

◎ they get flustered extremely easily. in fact, there's a consensus among both the other members and the fans that they get flustered the easiest out of everyone. after getting a compliment or someone flirting with them, they'll turn bright red and become a stuttering mess.

◎ skateboarding is the second most important thing to them (the first being music). there's something about having their headphones blasting music while they practically fly through cities that makes them feel truly untouchable. which is why they are frequently spotted soaring through the streets of seoul; expertly weaving their way through the crowds and pulling off tricks wherever and whenever possible.

◎ they absolutely love comics, but marvel comics are their absolute favorite. they love stories of either people gaining supernatural powers or supernatural beings being forced to contend with human beings that gives them a big rush of serotonin. so, they always have at least two comics with them. (their favorite heroes are black bolt, domino, and angel).

◎ grey has a thing about carrying objects in their hands when they're walking around, so since they've taken to carrying everything around with them in a backpack. over the years they've acquired a large collection of backpacks that they find cool and are never caught walking around without one. but, since they rarely carry enough in them to fill them up, their also known for carrying around stuff for their group mates.

◎ though they are known as the quietest among all of the members, they are also the one who most frequently claps back at interviewers. they always do it as eloquently and politely as possible, but they also almost always silence whoever asks the questionable or problematic thing.

◎ they've probably helped write, produce, or compose hundreds of songs since they decided they were good enough to let people listen to the things they made. it started with their stuff obviously and then that extended to the various artists they met in nyc and later korea. essentially, they love music and are always eager to help any artist who needs it, which has earned them credits on more songs than they could even begin to keep track of.

◎ most of the lives they do are in part done while they're eating. they've always felt very lonely when they have to eat, and they assumed that a lot of their fans felt the same way, if not worse. so, they started streaming themselves eating on camera, and talking in hopes it would bring both them and fans some sort of comfort.

◎ they make sure to call their mom and grandparents at least once a week, no matter what timezone they are in, and the conversations usually last for at least an hour. and then they call their dad once a month; mostly because the two text regularly; and their conversations rarely exceed thirty minutes.

◎ they love to sleep. with their tendency to stay up late most nights working on music, they are usually exhausted by the time they actually have to do something. and despite their tendency to chug down anything with caffeine in it, it never does anything, so they usually just end up falling asleep wherever their head falls.
