Chapter 5
It had been two days after they first arrived at the school. Two days since Emily had first seen Florence and also two days since she last seen her. But now she was back in the car on the way to the school.
Yesterday Rossi and Emily had droven all day to meet with Rebecca Sinclaires Family. Her mom hadn't been that helpful. She told them that she hadn't spoken to Becky in years prior to her death. And that she had no idea why Becky would do that.
She talked about Becky and her sister, who was still in the same school that her sister died in and the older brother, who was away for college. So now she and Morgan were on their way to talk to Emilia Sinclaire. A seventeen year old, according to the ranking she was a ruby, meaning she had to be an okay student similar to her sister.
"You worried, about seeing your sister?" Derek suddenly asked and she looked towards him. "Not really I mean she knows that we're still investigating so she'll be okay. She didn't seem to hate me the last time." She grinned at him and he laughed a little. "You are her sister. I doubt she could hate you." "I mean she has never heard from me in seven years not even cares for Christmas or birthdays." Emily said and looked out of the window. The man glanced over at her. "What do you mean?" "Well our parents wouldn't let me contact her and never gave me the address for her school or anything so I had no way of contacting her. Nor would they send my cards and presents with theirs. If they even send any." Emily looked sad as she saw the gray walls come closer towards them.
"I have all the presents for the last 7 years still at home. They are all sorted by age In a cupboard." She mumbled, biting her fingernails.
Derek put the car into park and looked at her. "I'm sure if you'll tell her she'll understand and be happy." She gave him a short smile, before they both opened the door and left the car.
The two started walking towards the office when Emily noticed Florence in the hallway. The tiny brunette was carrying school books and looked down. The older Prentiss looked at her partner, who nodded. She started her way over to the younger girl, but then she saw three girls around Flos age walking towards her.
At first she couldn't hear what they were saying but it was clearly upsetting the younger girl. One of the girls grabbed her wrist. Emily could hear what she was saying. "How must it feel to be tied up just to know that you're killed."
One look in Flos face made it clear that the young girl was incredibly upset. "I.. I don't know. Would you mind letting me go?" The girls started laughing. "Would we mind? Yes we would mind. Maybe if we over you to that killer we won't be killed." Florence looked even paler than before. Girl number three opened her mouth. "It's not like you aren't on the kill list anyway. Pretty sure you'll be the next one."
"Excuse me, what's going on here?" Emily broke the girls apart. The three girls surrounding the younger Prentiss looked up scared, before running off. "Flo are you alright?" Emily gently took her sisters hand in hers to check out the wrist one of the girls had held. Said girl apparently had a pretty hard grip or maybe her sister just bruised easily, but there were small finger like bruises starting to show.
"Sweetheart let's take you to the nurse." Emily says, but looking up she noticed that her sister wasn't really there. Her eyes were not quite focused on anything, like she disassociated. It broke her heart, but very carefully she led her over to a bench sat her down, before kneeling in front of her. "Hey Flo it's me Emmy. Can you take deep breath for me?" She was still holding the small brunettes hands as she tried taking a few deep breaths. "You're okay Flo it's alright. Nothing is gonna happen to you. I'll keep you safe." She whispered to the young girl. Slowly she managed to coax the young girl out of her mind. Soft touches and words thrown like a lifeline lead her back to reality.
"I'm sorry." The teen said and let go of Emily's hands. "I should've been better at keeping my emotions in check." The agents looked at her in disbelief. "No honey it's alright, you're fine. It's okay for you to feel scared. How about we go to the nurse and have her checking you out, hm? That looks like it's bruising pretty bad."
Her soft voice made Flo smile for a short second. It brought her back to the time she scratched her knees when she was learning how to ride a bike. Just like now Emmy had been there and taken care of her. "It's really okay Emmy. I promise." The older girl didn't seem convinced but nodded a little. "Okay if you think so. Now this is my partner Derek Morgan. Derek this is my baby sister Florence."
The teen looked up at the man smiling a little. It wasn't a happy or excited smile, but a polite one, like she was trying to sell something had to lure him in.
"Well it's a pleasure to meet you Agent Morgan." She had gotten up and shook his hand. "Likewise. Emily has been talking about you a lot." Derek thought to himself his friend could use the little boost. "Did you know she still has all your birthday and Christmas presents in her apartment?" Surprise filled the youngest ones face.
"Excuse me?" Emily blushed. "He's right. Mother and father never told me were you live or gave me the address. So I couldn't send them to you." A smile made itself comfortable on Flos face. For the first time in years she felt like someone saw her and cared for her. But she knew that even if Emily cared in two years it'd be over.
"Why are you here? If you don't mind me asking." She changed the topic.
"We need to talk to Emilia Sinclaire and your Headmistress." The girl nodded. "I'll take you. Is this about Becky? Do you think she is behind these murders?" Emily looked surprised at the question. "Honey. Becky died."
Schock and dread filled Flos body. If the teachers were lying about people's death, what else were they hiding.
"Headmistress said she survived and was sent to Utah. To one of those therapeutic boarding schools. To 'get her back in shape'." She quoted as they walked over the courtyard.
"Wait. You were never told she died or suspected she died? Didn't her sister go to the funeral?" "Nope Emilia didn't leave the school, so no reason to suspect that Becky died." The girl shrugged before knocking on the door in front of them.
"Headmistress. It's Florence Prentiss. I have some FBI Agengs with me who want to talk to you." The sound of stilettos was heard before the door was opened.
The Headmistress still looked exhausted, but now she also looked defeated. "Yes? How can I help?" She asked. Derek stepped forward. "We're here to talk about Rebecca Sinclaire." She went pale. "You. Girl. Go away. I don't want you anywhere near the office." "Yes ma'am." The younger Prentiss left down the hallway without saying another word, whil the two agents followed the Headmistress inside.
"So what do you need to know?" She asked once the door was closed. "The circumstances surrounding her death. We'd also like to talk to her sister Emilia." The Headmistress nodded. "Well there's not much to tell you. Rebecca was a promising student. Not quite there yet but she had a lot of potential. Her death was shocking to all of us teachers, but the students still don't know." Emily must have looked shocked.
"Our school has a strict no outside world policy as we believe that it would cause a distraction and disruption to their schedule and upbringing. So we don't allow phones, internet or unsupervised visits of the town. We got lucky that nobody noticed Rebecca's body and we managed to get her body to the coroner and clean everything up without disrupting their schedules." Morgan seemed mad, Emily could see it on his face and hear it in his voice. "What about Emilia? She's her sister." "We discussed it with Emilias parents and together we decided not to tell her. It would disrupt her learning and her parents didn't wanna risk another losing her as well." "So there is no way she knows?" Emily asked and the Headmistress nodded. "Just like all the girls here she doesn't know about her sisters death."
The two agents exchanged a glance, before Emily stepped forward again.
"Me and my colleague Agent Jareau wanted to offer to spend the night, if possible close to the rooms of the girls, as an added barrier of protection. Both of us are female so we figured it'd be easier for you to allow this."
The Headmistress thought for a second before nodding. "Yes I'll have someone show you to your room. Dinner is served between 6pm and 7pm. Please don't disrupt the girls to much."
Emily nodded while texting Hotch that she and JJ had been okayed to sleep at the school, before calling the blonde to come here and pick up her stuff from the hotel.
