Chapter 1
It had been a quiet few weeks for the BAU. After their last case it seemed like the serial killers and kidnappers were taking a break. More than two weeks they had been in Quantico without anyone having to leave to a case. But as Emily looked at the way Hotch and JJ were arguing in the formers Office she knew that something was up.
"Any bets on what this case is going to be?" She heard Morgan right next to her. She heard Reid answer him, while she ignored them.
Something was wrong. She felt it. Normally the JJ just told Hotch about the cases and off they went. This was different. Someone or something was involved.
"Prentiss?" She heard Derek say. "What's your guess?" "Don't you think it's weird they've been arguing for a while now. That's not normal for them. Something is different." She answered, ignoring Derek's question. While she watched the Unit Chief nod and motion toward the door.
As the blonde agent stepped through she seemed worried. For a short second she looked at Emily before looking down. Something was wrong. She could feel it. It was like the air was filled with electricity, but she couldn't quiet grab it and figure out what it was.
"We have a case." Hotchs voice rang through the office. It was sharp and short. He seemed more agitated than usual when they left for a case.
Stepping into the conference room. She saw pictures of three girls on the board. All between the ages of fifteen and eighteen. For a short second her mind wandered to her younger sister. She would be sixteen now, considering her birthday had just passed. The present she had gotten the younger one was still at home. Her mom had never given her the address of the boarding school her sister visited nor had she agreed to send it with her present.
"Lola Jones. First Victim. Kidnapped out of her dorm room on July 2nd. She was found on July 10th." A small blonde with blue eyes was staring back at them. Garcia pressed a button and a next picture showed. "Anna Mae Mains. Second Victim. She was kidnapped as well on July the 9th. Her body was found one week later on the 16th." Emily stared at the strawberry blonde girl. She had darker eyes. Garcia pressed the button again before the picture of brunette popped up. She had blue eyes and dark curls. So the Unsub clearly didn't just have on type.
"And this is Mary Cole. She was kidnapped two days ago on the 16th. So far she hasn't been found."
Rossi was reading through the file. "According to the coroner all girls were assaulted before their death." "Did they find DNA Traces?" The brunette asked looking through the file in front of her. "Nope. No traces of any DNA other than the victims." The blonde answered.
"And they were all stabbed to death. Always 6 stabs." Hotch said.
"Maybe the number represents something to the Unsub." "Well six represents the lovers in Tarot so maybe the unsub is in a romantic relationship with them beforehand. Did any of the girls have a boyfriend?" "Not as far as we know. All the girls are visiting the same school. Marie Curie School for Girls near Ellsworth in Maine. There are no male students and they live a fourty five minute bus ride away from Ellsworth." Hotch closed his file. "The plane leaves in 30 minutes."
As they got up and grabbed their bags Emily thought about the school. She had heard that name before. It had been on the list of schools her mom had considered for her little Flo.
Thinking of her little sister made her heart got heavy. She really missed seeing her regularly, but their parents had decided that Flo had to go to a boarding school as preparation for college. So the last seven years Emily hadn't seen or spoken to her baby sister.
The plane lifted of the tarmac and she leaned back in her seat. JJ was sitting across from her and was reading in her file.
"You know what bothers me? Everyone seemed to like these girls. They were team captains, got good grades and according to the teachers were never involved in bullying. Mary even won an award for an anti bullying campagne she helped to establish. Why would someone kill them?" Emily looked at her, before reading through her file. "Maybe there are students who didn't like them or maybe someone was envious of their lives." She gave back. "We'll figure it out once we get to it."
"Than what's bothering you?" JJ asked her, making the brunette look up again. The blondes hair was framing her face, as she looked over at her best friend, who didn't answer.
"Emily? Come on. We always tell each other everything. What's going on." Emily brushed one strand of her back, which had fallen out of her ponytail. "I'm just thinking about my family. My sister to be exact." Morgan who had been sitting close by looked up surprised. He didn't know that his partner had a sister.
"You have a sister?" He let out before could control himself. Emily sighed and gave them a small nod. "Yeah I have a younger sister. She turned sixteen recently." "Why have you never told us about her?" Reid looked a little hurt as he asked her. "Mostly because I haven't seen her in years and I don't even know where she is right now."
Rossi and Hotch were listening in and exchanged a confused look. They knew that the younger woman hadn't the best relationship with her family, but not seeing her sister in years seemed out of place. Even for her.
"Our parents send her to a year around boarding school. But never told me which one. I just thought about maybe she is in a boarding school like the one we're going to and I'll never know." The other agents looked at her. They could feel her sadness and JJ leaned for to squeeze her hand.
They let her be. All of them could see that she didn't want to talk about it. So she didn't notice the small glance JJ and Hotch exchanged.
The next two hours every one worked on their files mostly in silence but every now and then they discussed a theory or an idea of where to start. As the plane started to sink, Hotch looked around his team.
"Reid and Morgan I want you to check out the scenes at the school where they found the victims. Rossi you and I are going to talk to the girls parents, the coroner and the police. JJ, Prentiss. You guys are going to talk with the teachers and students. Focus on the ones that found the bodies or the girls were last seen with. Everyone going to the school can ride together." Everyone started to pack their stuff and grab their bags.
Before walking down the grey tarmac towards the two black cars.
