The scouts drew nearer and nearer to Utgard castle by the second, the closer they got, the more Kaya could smell blood. She knew something was off by the beginning but now her suspicions were confirmed. The ghoul was also stressing about having to explain her species to the captain and Hange for that matter, but she didn't have time to think about that just yet. Upon looking at the castle in front of her, she waited until she reached the perfect distance to connect her hooks and get closer to the titan swarmed mess.

It was finally time, the ghoul stood on her horse and used her ODM gear to swing towards the remains of the castle and went ahead of the rest of the scouts. While in midair, the thief managed to spot a girl, she recalled Armin's description of Krista 'golden hair, blue eyes and kinda cute.' Kaya didn't waste another second before aiming her hooks onto the titans back and shooting forwards, disconnecting herself from the titan just before slicing its nape.

Mikasa landed besides the ghoul after taking out another threat. "Krista, all of you, get back. It's ok let us take care of this." Mikasa stated.

Kaya once again jumped straight back into the action and took down 5 titans before she noticed that there were more crowding a steaming corpse. The ghoul spun around and instantly took out the titans around the body, when she saw a girl. Once the girl was saved from the titans, the scouts crowded around a freckled girl, however, it was Hange, Kaya and who the ghoul assumed to be Krista, who were close by the side of the girl.

"Ymir, just as promised, my real name is Historia." The blonde whispered to Ymir, who just closed her eyes, she was finally able to relax.

When Ymir and the other injured cadets were collected, each of them made their way up to the wall, however, something was different. Kaya's senses weren't nearly as advanced as usual, her hearing and smell were usually 7 times as strong as a humans, but now it was closer to 3. After feeling water drop onto her face she gathered that her senses would decrease until the rain stopped. 'Rain dulls the ghouls senses' she recalled from her book.

"What's the verdict, how bad of a shape is Ymir in?" Eren questioned.

"Well she's missing an arm and a leg, her insides are pretty scrambled too. If she was normal, she'd be a goner." A member of Hanges squad said before flying away on his ODM gear. Eren and the ghoul quickly turned around when they heard someone grunt behind them, a blonde was struggling to climb the wall.

"Here, grab my hand." Eren offered, where as the ghoul decided to observe the conversation with Hange.

"Please, you've got to believe me, Ymir could have left anytime she wanted, she chose to fight the titans and save our lives. She had nothing to gain putting herself on the line like that, doesn't that speak volumes about where her loyalties are? She should have told us sooner, yes, she had no right to keep her power secret. It's hard to look past how much human kind might have gained from knowing what she's been keeping to herself but, I think she was just worried about what people might do to her. Clearly her priorities have changed now, this isn't nearly as complicated as it looks, no one is closer to Ymir than me and there's no question in my mind to which side she's on." Historia argued, trying to protect her 'friend'.

In a way, Kaya could relate to what the blonde was saying, she too had kept her secret from humanity mainly because she was also scared of what they might do to her. However, she wasn't sure humanity would benefit from knowing her existence.

"Is that so? Well under the circumstances it certainly behooves us to be friendly. Her priorities aside, whatever she can teach us about the enemy is beyond measure, probably." Hange added. "Even so, you say this isn't as complicated as it looks, but from where I'm standing, the world gets more complicated by the hour."

"I have a feeling it's only going to get more complicated from here." Kaya suggested.

"What do you mean?" The scientist asked.

"This whole situation is kinda weird, if the walls have been damaged then it would likely mean the colossal made an appearance. However, we would have heard about it. So it just leaves us to question, what really happened?" Kaya thought aloud, leading Hange to agree.

"For now, let's deal with what we know. So, Historia Reiss you say your name is, isn't Reiss the name of a noble family?" Hange continued.

"Yes it is." The blonde looked down to her feet, somewhat ashamed of her heritage.

"Historia, nice to meet ya." The scientist said with a hand on the blondes shoulder.

"Same here." Kaya waved.

"Thank you." The girl muttered.

All three of them walked towards Ymir and Historia instantly kneeled down next to her. "How's she doing?" Hange asked Moblit.

"The bleeding s stopped, though steam appears to be coming out of her wounds." Moblit answered.

"Well, if she's anything like Eren then that's to be expected." Kaya reassured.

"Best course of action is taking her back to Trost where the poor girl can get proper medical care. She's in your hands." The scientist instructed her squad. When the ghoul glanced at Ymir she could tell that the titan shifter was in similar shape to her after she saved Mikasa, the thief mentally scolded herself for being so careless.

"Right then, on with our mission. Finding the hole and patching it up." Hange said as both Kaya and Moblit followed. In the distance, the ghoul could barely make out the conversation that Eren was having with the cadets, but still tried to make out as much as she could, after all, they were the top suspects.

".......titan.......gnawed....off pathetic..........I go..........." She made out from Reiner.

".....else.....think......time like.....human." Eren responded.

"Don't......second time........Armin......Annie crush me........" Reiner retorted.

"Yeah." She heard Armin.

"Twice....died......chances..........third time.......this what means........to be a soldier......spirit......body follows....no whining..........plug up wall" The ghoul was starting to get tired of not being able to fully hear the boys conversation so she discreetly walked in their direction.

"...true....far away........hometown...draw the line..." Eren said his words started to become clearer to the ghoul as she inched closer.

"Truer words were never spoken. Home, let's go. We've been here long enough, compared to everything else we've had to go through the rest is easy!" A taller boy yelled, causing Kaya to hear him loud and clear. The ghoul had a bad feeling from the start, so she didn't waste time to catch up with the boys.

"That's right, we don't have much further to go till it's done." Reiner said with a smile plastered across his face. This sent shivers down the thief's spine, she knew from then that these two were definitely a cause for suspicion.

The ghouls thoughts were interrupted when she saw Hannes climb up the wall beside her. "Walls perfectly in tact." The garrison member said.

"What?" A scout said.

"We've spent all night trying to figure out how they got in, but between Trost and Crovet district there's nothing, no hole anywhere."

"That's impossible!" Hange yelled.

"We ran into a search party and retraced our steps, not a single titan on the way here either." Hannes added.

"But we know for a fact that titans were inside wall Rose." Armin gasped.

"Guess things did just get more complicated, huh." The thief looked at Hange.

"Oh come on, how much have you had to drink anyways." Eren accused.

"Why you little.. hold on what the hell are you kids even doing here?"

"If there's no breach then I guess we have to change tactics. We head back to Trost immediately." Hange commanded her squad.

"You'd be smart to keep your guard up, we'll go on ahead of you." The garrison member said to Eren and his friends.

"He's right, for now, I don't trust a damn person, I encourage you do the same." The ghoul muttered to Eren. The rest of the group broke off and started to follow Hange's squad to Trost, Kaya stood beside Mikasa who had her eyes glued to Eren.

The ghoul was about to advance conversation with Mikasa until she heard a familiar voice behind her. "Eren, we should talk, alone."

"I guess it couldn't hurt." Eren said.

"5 years ago, we compromised Wall Maria and launched an attack on humanity, I'm the armoured titan, he's the colossal." Reiner stated. Kaya was too shocked by how upfront they were being to take in what had been said.

"Why are you telling him? Reiner no, stop!" Bertolt said as he shook Reiners arm.

"We we're on a mission, our goal was to ensure mankind's extinction. But now, there's no need for that. Eren if you want the walls to remain standing then it's simple, just come with Bertolt and me. Do you understand?" Reiner said. The two girls were stood in shock, neither had expected them to be so upfront about what they had done.

"Understand, what the hell is there to understand?" Eren shouted at the shifters.

"Listen to me, I need you to do exactly as I say. I know this is sudden but we have to go." The blonde demanded.

"Right now, where would you take me?" The green eyed shifter asked.

"I can't tell you, not yet. Just think of it as our hometown, ok? So what's it gonna be? Not a bad deal right? Chance to avert a major crisis." The enemy asked.

"I'm not so sure." Eren looked towards Mikasa and his friends, which caused the thief to come to her senses and run towards Eren.

"You're just tired, help me out here Bertolt." Eren said with his hand gripped on Reiners shoulder.

"Yeah, it's the battle fatigue talking." The taller boy said.

"If you really were the armoured titan what's the end game, we wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place. What'd you expect me to do, say yes, let myself get kidnapped just because you asked politely?" Eren tried to persuade.

"Eren." Kaya alerted from behind him. "Cmon, we need to get to Trost." She warned, trying to make it obvious that he wasn't safe here.

"Right, not thinking straight am I? Barely know what I'm saying here. Must have gone off the deep end." Reiner smiled.

Eren began to follow Kaya back to the group until a flag post snapped and broke the tension between the four, there was nothing stopping the inevitable. Kaya gripped her swords and looked at Mikasa. "That's the problem, I've been here too long for my own good. Three years of this mess, surrounded by idiots, we were kids what did we know about anything? Why'd there have to be people like this? Why, why did I let myself devolve into such a piece of shit."

Reiner then took off his sling and held up his steaming arm. "It's too late now, damned if I know what's right anymore. Who cares, it is what it is? No choice but to face what I've done, as a warrior, no road left but the one that leads to the end."

Kaya was first to take action, she grabbed both her swords and slashed Reiners torso, before kicking the blonde away from Eren. Mikasa followed and cut Bertolts throat. "Eren get out of here!" She screamed. But was soon knocked over by Reiner.

As soon as Kaya saw the yellow flashes surrounding the shifters she jumped towards the boys with her duel swords restored, she was prepared to make sacrifices. However, as soon as the ghoul drew near to them, she was sent flying by two incredible explosions, the heat was unbearable and the loud roar that escaped the colossal's mouth wasn't helping her in any way.

Kaya was utterly helpless, she was falling off the wall and there was nothing she could do to stop it. Her hooks weren't connecting due to the heat escaping from the colossal and she couldn't bring out her kagune in such an open environment where everyone could see. The ghoul soon accepted her fate and allowed herself to collide with the harsh gravel below her. Just like that, Kaya was out of action, pretty much all of her bones were fractured, broken or dislocated. The ghoul looked up at the fading stars above and closed her eyes.
