ILYSB
"A love clinic, really now, Taehyung?"
Taehyung could only give Jungkook a shrug of his shoulders, but the younger one didn't seem to like the idea of both the words 'love' and 'clinic' placed together on a lit up sign that flashed right back at him.
It is almost eight at night in Hongdae and the streets are filled with couples out on dates and performers who create crowds of attention, but Jungkook and Taehyung decided to stroll around to get their mind off of things. With the two of them sharing the same stress over the upcoming world tour and preparing for their next studio album with the others, a stroll around at night was the only thing that seemed to help them unwind and relax, even if it was temporary.
However, Jungkook did not expect that Taehyung was going to help him unwind by bringing him to a love clinic.
"Why not?" Taehyung says as he purses his lips into a line.
But before Jungkook could utter a reply, he's already being dragged by Taehyung who had the tightest grip on his sleeve that there was no possible way to stop him from doing so.
"How is a love clinic going to help me? And of all the things we need to worry about, you worry the most about my love life?" Jungkook protests, but it almost looks as if it's going through one of Taehyung's ear and out the other.
"It's going to help you find love again, trust me." Taehyung reassures him before he pushes the door open for the two of them to enter.
"Find love again, my ass." Jungkook mutters underneath his breath, and a nudge in the stomach is what he receives in return.
Jungkook looks around the fully lit clinic, almost similar to a doctor's clinic that he couldn't help but laugh. Is this even a thing? A real thing? There were no certificates or college diplomas to prove that diagnosing a broken-heart was an actual profession, but from the look on Taehyung's face, it seemed pretty legit.
But Jungkook was not going to give in, not a single bit.
"Enjoy your night, Jungkook-ah, I think it's my cue to leave~" Taehyung smirks, and he glances at the woman who was sitting at the front desk. "Meanwhile, (Y/N), I'm pretty sure you can take care of him from here, right?"
Alarmed, Jungkook froze, his eyes falling upon the woman who looked like she was around his age. She flashes him a confused look, but there was a soft smile that grazed her lips. He eyes her suspiciously as he turns towards Taehyung.
"Wait, so you're telling me that you know her?" Jungkook asks incredulously, and Taehyung's smile falters. "Is this even a thing?"
The woman slowly stands up from her desk, and before she could move the slightest bit, he burst out into a dry laugh. She hesitates, standing in the same spot as she and Taehyung watch him continue to laugh. But before she could even reach out to him and try to hear him out, he lets out a sigh.
"This is ridiculous! Do you own this place?" He questions her, and Taehyung tries to scold him for being a bit too harsh with his words but Jungkook only sends him a death glare.
She feels taken aback, and all she could do is shake her head in reply.
"It's been my first two months working here, so.." She trails off, scratching the back of her head and he bursts out into another fit of dry laughter. She looks at him questioningly until his laughter dies down.
"Yeah, this is absolutely ridiculous. I can't believe you would—wow, I just — I don't need this, I don't need help." He stammers as he tries to stop himself from laughing, and he turns towards Taehyung. "And you, I just—wow, you really think I'm that desperate, huh?"
"Jungkook, I didn't do this to make fun of you—"
"Of course you did! For the past year, all you've been telling me is to 'find love again' because I have been nothing but a huge train-wreck ever since she left me." Jungkook cuts him off harshly, "and you think bringing me to this stupid love clinic could help me 'find love again'?"
"Jungkook—"
"And what makes it even funnier is that you know this woman!" Jungkook turns towards the woman who looked just as confused. "Are you trying to hook me up with her just like what you did with three other women?"
"Jungkook." Taehyung warns through gritted teeth, and Jungkook scoffs.
Jungkook glances at Taehyung and back at the woman who was now biting her lip nervously. He lets his hands fall at his sides as he smirks.
"Well, surprise surprise, I don't need your help," he points at the woman and turns towards Taehyung, "or your help, because clearly, I'm completely fine."
Before Taehyung could even reach out to Jungkook and try to change his mind, Jungkook barges out of the clinic. Taehyung glances at the woman and flashes her an apologetic look and she waves it off.
"Sorry about him, he's just—"
"Really heartbroken, that's what he is." She cuts him off and Taehyung smiles.
"He's just has a lot on his plate right now, sorry for bothering your evening, (Y/N)." Taehyung apologizes one last time before he leaves the clinic to chase down the younger one.
She plops down back in her seat, watching Taehyung try to catch up to his friend who was already throwing a fit at random strangers on the sidewalk. She couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head at how adorable he was. Leaning back on her chair, she sighs.
Until then, she plays another round of the waiting game for the next customer to come around.
❀❀❀
Understanding the concept of love was just as hard as falling out of it. The only thing that was easy of it all was the fall itself.
Jungkook was the last of the circle of friends to end up in a relationship that lasted a good three years. He would always get teased for being the most good-looking member of the band who kept his relationship status as single for his whole 19 years of existence.
However, that relationship status was bound change the moment he hit 20 years young and his eyes were set on her the moment she walked into the cafe with her friends. She had fit everything he had wanted in a woman, for she had long black hair that stopped above her waist, a beautiful smile that always reached her ears, and eyes that seemed to have stars staring back at you whenever you looked at them.
She was everything he ever wanted, he loved her so much that it hurt him in the most beautiful way possible. But he was never aware of the fact that by loving someone so bad only resulted in scars and heartbreak that seemed to be endless. But Jungkook didn't care, not a single bit.
"Do you know what you're doing to yourself, Jungkook?" Yoongi snaps him out of his trance, and Jungkook glances at his older brother who's focused on the screen filled with typed up lyrics.
"What?"
"Do you know what you're doing to yourself?" He asks again, and Jungkook furrows his eyebrows in confusion.
"What do you mean? I'm fine, if that's what you're wondering." Jungkook replies and Yoongi chuckles. "What are you laughing at?"
"You're fine because you think you are. But are you really?" Jungkook sighs, leaning back in his leather chair. "Jungkook-ah, we have to finish the whole album by next week so that we would let the production team hear it."
"I know, I know," Jungkook rubs at his temples and Yoongi purses his lips into a line.
"And we're barely halfway done with the lyrics, are you sure you're okay?" Yoongi questions the younger one and Jungkook falls silent. "It's okay to not be okay, the only problem is that I know something is holding you back from all of this."
The younger one glances at Yoongi, who looks almost as if he knows exactly was is running through his mind. Jungkook knew that he was easy to read, the only weakness he has.
"Is it because of her—"
"Taehyung brought me to a love clinic yesterday," he speaks up, and Yoongi smirks in amusement, "and I left because I don't need the help."
"Oh, trust me, you need the help." Yoongi grins.
"Okay, fine, if I were to be honest, I need the help. But with all of these things going on right now, I don't have time. Do you think I'll ever fall in love again?"
"Here's what I think. Finding love again after what, a year, is the only thing that's holding you back." Yoongi explains, "it's also holding you back from writing badass lyrics for the album, which we all need right now."
"So are you implying that I go to the love clinic?" Jungkook asks confusedly and Yoongi only laughs. "What? Stop laughing at me!"
"What I'm trying to say is that you need to go outside and find love again, and when you do, come back and finish writing the album with me." Yoongi says, clasping his hands together.
"You're only doing this because we need to finish writing the album."
"That's like a quarter of the reason why I want you to do this, the rest is because we're all concerned about you, Jungkook." Yoongi explains, "you've been locked up in your room for a year, you've barely looked at a girl straight in the eye since you broke up with Sori, and—"
"Okay, I get it."
"I'm not done, okay." Yoongi hushes the kid. "Not only that but you've been so out of it for a year, and everyone is starting to notice how you're basically not the same anymore. This is all Sori's fault, I know, but still, you need to get your shit together."
"Okay, I'll get my shit together, if that's what you want."
"No, don't do it because I want you to." Yoongi shakes his head, "do this because you want to, and because you need to find your happiness again."
And when Jungkook falls silent, Yoongi knows that he's done his job of making the younger one's gears turn in his head. But as Yoongi turns back towards the computer, he only sees Jungkook grab his coat and things from the corner of his eye. Soon enough, Jungkook leaves Yoongi all alone in the studio.
Yoongi leans back in his chair, looks out the window and smirks as he watches Jungkook hop into a taxi, "that's my boy."
❀ ❀❀
"Hello? Anyone here?"
You jump at the voice coming from the door, you walk out of the back office to see the same guy from last night. You feel surprised at the fact that he looked completely different from last night as well, he looked more serious than ever.
"Hi, you came back?" You greet him with a welcoming smile and he purses his lips into a line.
You can sense the hesitation from him because he was fiddling with his fingers, his eyes were wandering throughout the room and he was biting his lip. You smile, taking a seat the front desk as you gesture him to take a seat right in front of you.
"S-Sorry, this is my first time." He stutters, and you chuckle.
"It's okay, don't be sorry." You say softly as he takes as seat in front of you.
He avoids eye-contact with you, and he looks straight down at the palm of his hands. The first few minutes go by and there's an awkward atmosphere in the air, but somehow it felt comfortable. Clearing your throat, he glances up at you and your eyes meet.
Your eyes slightly widen at how doe-like his eyes were, especially how there was a slight twinkle in them that you could slowly find yourself getting lost in them. You look away from him, gulping nervously.
"Is there a reason why you came back after throwing a fit last night?"
He chuckles softly, "sorry about that, I was just.. I felt overwhelmed."
"No, not that. You said you didn't need help from your friend and I, and now you're back?" You question him and he slightly pouts. "What did she do?"
He looks at you questioningly. "What do you mean?"
"The girl." You began, "what did she do to you?"
You notice how his face turns sour, how his eyes squint and how he lets out a bitter laugh. You knew that it ended up pretty badly by how he reacted.
"Ah, I see." You nod your head and he looks at you with a surprised look. "It's that bad."
He shrugs his shoulders, "I guess you're right, I mean, we were so close to our three-year anniversary but I just—I came home from vacation to find her in bed with a random dude."
"Hm," you mumble, "that's how it all ends up.. and it ends up pretty badly."
"And after that night, I just broke up with her, I just.. I felt so hurt, and betrayed." He explains, and you nod your head as you continue to hear him out. "I've never seen her since, until she came back a few months ago and begged me to get back with her."
"As her rebound?" He nods his head in reply.
"I rejected her, but I still feel hurt. I can't seem to—"
"Move on?" You finish it for him, and he only nods his head. Slowly flashing a sad smile, he purses his lips into a line and lets his head hang low. "You want to move on, don't you?"
"So, so, so bad." He mutters underneath his breath, and you can practically hear the frustration and urge in his voice. "I don't care how long it'll take."
You nod your head before clasping your hands together, "well then, let's do it."
His head perks up and he looks at you confusedly, "wait, what?"
"Let's help you move on, no matter how long it'll take. This is what you want, right?" You ask him. You shrug your shoulders, "unless, your heart tells you otherwise, then it's completely fine—"
"Okay." He cuts you off, an uneasy smile beginning to spread across his lips, "yeah, okay, let's do it."
"Are you sure?" You look at him with a questioning look, and somehow you feel a bit uneasy as well.
But he only reassures you when he slowly glances into your eyes with a serious look. You see his lip quiver, but through his eyes you see a flame lighting up a brand new beginning for him. He had the look of desire to move on from a girl you have yet to learn about.
"I'm more than sure."
❀ ❀❀
[ STEP #1: SWITCH UP YOUR ROUTINE ]
"I know this might sound crazy, but you need to switch things up a bit." You place a new agenda right in front of him, while he glances at you with a confused look.
You smile, pointing at the agenda that had about three weeks worth of new things to do together. "We're going to follow this agenda for the next three weeks before you go on tour with the guys."
"So, you know that I'm famous?" He smirks and you roll your eyes.
"It's not that hard to recognize you, Jeon Jungkook." You sigh, sitting down and opening the agenda to reveal what the two of you have planned for today. You chuckle, looking at him with bright eyes, "we're going shopping, apparently retail therapy helps heartbreak."
"I'm pretty sure I have everything I need, for now—"
"Says the one and only guy I've seen wear different colored plain t-shirts paired off with baggy pants. Let's switch up your wardrobe, shall we?"
"What are we doing after?" He asks and you slowly smile.
"Now that is something we shall find out together."
He glances down at the agenda when he slowly realizes that every single day of the agenda was completely blank.
❀ ❀❀
"This will look great on you," you mumble as you place the shirts onto him, tilting your head as you examine how it perfectly matches his skin tone.
Jungkook had a face mask that covered half of his face, but his bunny smile was still completely evident whenever your eyes met his. However, he grabs the shirts from your hands and smiles.
"For an average person, you have good taste."
He enters into the dressing room to put of the clothes, while you unlock your phone to scroll through your text messages. Suddenly, your phone vibrates as you receive a message from your best friend, Mina.
5:19 PM - I saw them at the bake shop cake taste testing together, are they really planning for a wedding really soon? They're so young to get married.
You frown, feeling your heart shatter and your eyesight begin to blur. Before you could even ignore the text, you hear someone clear their throat and you glance up to see Jungkook revealing the t-shirt that he has worn on. You smile at him, flashing him two thumbs up.
"They look great on you," you smile, trying to hide the fact that you were slowly breaking down on the inside.
On the other hand, Jungkook did notice how your smile faltered before he turned around to head back into the stall. He watches you look at your phone, a frown starting to grow on your face.
5:21 PM - It's okay. I'm okay. I'm over it, and I'm over him.
"I'll go pay for these, and we can go stroll around some more. Is that okay?" You see Jungkook already holding the shirts in his hands and you get up, shoving your phone into your pocket.
"Sounds perfect," you shrug off your feelings as the two of you head to the checkout station to buy his new clothes.
While he was paying for the clothes, you head out of the store and stop in your tracks when you see a familiar couple at the mall's bakery. The two of them were feeding each other spoons of cake and you couldn't help but stare at how perfect they looked together. You knew that there was absolutely no way that if you took her place, it would be even more perfect. They were meant to be together. They were meant for each other.
"(Y/N)?" You turn over your shoulder to see Jungkook looking at you with a questioning look. "Are you okay?"
You muster up a smile, nodding your head, "I'm fine, where do you want to go next?"
❀ ❀❀
[ STEP #2: TRY NEW THINGS ]
"You've never tried bowling before?" You ask him and he shakes his head in reply. "Hey, we're not getting any younger, there's always a first for everything but not a last.. unless you have all the time in the world."
"Let's go, I wanna try it. If I win, you're treating me out for dinner this time around." He smirks and you whine, tugging at his sleeve.
For the first week, you and Jungkook have been switching up his routine by bringing him out to the beach when the sun was setting, cancelling his schedules for the day, eating dinner at midnight, and more. Sometimes they were just spontaneous adventures, where the two of you would just somehow go out on an adventure in the forest to only stumble upon a cliff that overlooked what seemed like an abandoned beach.
But for the next few days, you've decided that it was time for Jungkook to try new things, whether he liked it or not. This helped him get his mind off of his ex-girlfriend who still remains a secret to you. However, you are bound to find out one way or another.
"Fine, if I win, then I get to go home early, I've been so busy trying to arrange hangouts with my own friends. I have a life too, you know?" You say softly and he pretends to be hurt by placing a hand over his heart.
"Ouch. Do you really not like me?" He questions you teasingly until you laugh.
"We'll see about that."
❀ ❀❀
"I can't believe you won, I swear, you've actually bowled before, you're just not telling me!" You exclaim frustratingly and he only laughs at you in return.
"It's not my fault that you suck." He mutters until you punch him in the arm.
"Fine, where do you want to eat dinner?" You ask him and he suddenly stops in his tracks, making you bump into his back. You groan in pain and before you protest, you look over his shoulder to see the two of you standing in front of McDonalds.
"McDonalds, are you serious?" He nods his head. "I mean, I'm not complaining, you're actually helping my wallet out."
"Are you that broke? I've been paying you hundreds for the past week and a half." He rolls his eyes and you stick your tongue out at him.
"I'm just a picky money-saver, okay?" You head towards the counter to order both of your meals, but as you say your order you only realize that Jungkook had ordered for five Big Macs and two medium fries, while you order one combo menu.
You pick out two bills from your wallet and gave them to the cashier lady, wincing at how big the total amount was. Turning over your shoulder, your eyes are met with Jungkook's, who was smirking evilly. You glare at him and pick up your orders.
"Are you serious? I paid two bills all for you, are you happy?"
He shrugs his shoulders, "well, you did say that I had to try new things. I've basically done that for the whole day."
"Well, touche." You mutter.
"I mean, all you've done so far was help me, and it really is helping." He smiles, digging into his food. With food still in his mouth, he says, "from bowling to ordering more than I should have with my own weight limit, there truly is a first for everything."
"Well then, I'm glad it made you the least bit happy." You purse your lips into a line as you dig into your food as well.
❀ ❀❀
"I'm right here," you say softly as the two of you stop in front of your apartment building.
Jungkook smiles as you sigh, going up on your tiptoes to pull his hoodie up, he furrows his eyebrows in confusion at your sudden move. You shrug your shoulders.
"Are you trying to pull a move on me? You do know that I'm not interested in a relationship right now—"
"It's getting cold, and I don't want the superstar to get sick before his world tour." You say with a grin, "I'll see you tomorrow, yeah?"
"Of course, what's the agenda?" He asks and you hush him.
"That's a secret." You reply and he chuckles. You wave at him as you enter into the building. He waves back at you with the same smile.
And all you know is that this is probably the start of a new friendship.
❀ ❀❀
[ STEP #3: TALK THINGS OUT TO UNLEASH FEELINGS ]
It has been almost a week and a half and Jungkook has slowly been making progress on his love life. He's been bowling much more frequently - with you, of course - and sharing midnight snacks consisting of ramen and leftover bags of chips in his secret box that's hidden in the corner of his dorm room. Although it's only been a short amount of time with him, you're slowly growing fond of his presence, and it goes the same for him.
You don't remember how you managed to get up at 2 in the morning, but you do know that if it was for Jungkook, you had to do it. After receiving a call from Jungkook who seemed like he had been crying for the whole night, you barged out of your apartment in an instant to meet up with him.
You stumble upon him near the Han River, lying down on the grass as he glances up at the stars that shined so beautifully upon the water. You slowly approach him, taking a seat next to him. He had his eyes closed, but they were swollen enough to provide evidence that he had been crying for hours.
"Hey, bud." You nudge him, and he opens one eye, before opening both. "What happened? Are you okay?"
He shakes his head in reply, and you frown. "What day is it?"
"It's May 6th," you reply in a soft whisper and you can see his eyes begin to form tears. You shake your head, "no, no, no, why are you crying?"
He laughs bitterly, "this is so stupid."
"Do you want to talk about it?" You question him as you lay down beside him on the grass, "you don't have to, we can just lay here until you feel better. Unless, you want to open up."
"Are you okay for me to open up?" You purse your lips into a line, confused.
"What do you mean? I mean, I guess you're a bit uncomfortable because we're not that close enough to talk about such things and we've literally known each other for a week and a half but," you hold in your breath, hesitating, "I do see you as more than a client but also a friend, and if you feel sad about something, you're more than welcome to talk about it."
It falls silent. The two of you just look up the stars in silence, and you hear him trying to stop himself from bursting out into tears. You sigh.
"You know, if you keep collecting all of your feelings, it'll only result in you to burst out, and that's not good for your heart." You explain, "it's only better to let it out—"
"Today was the day I broke up with her," he cuts you off, "after I caught her cheating on me with her best friend's brother, or whoever the fuck he is."
"She cheated on you?" He replies in a hum.
"I was on vacation with the guys and she replied to my texts, but when I came home early to settle in and get ready for the next album, I found her in bed with a guy." He chokes on his tears, and you couldn't help but feel sorry for him. "You know, it still hurts. I always remember seeing her in bed with another guy, I couldn't see her the same way after that night."
"I wish I could relate to you, but we all have different situations." You say softly.
"You know, I've never opened up to the guys about what happened between Sori and I. Yoongi's the only one who knows besides you," he whispers, "but that's only because I'm afraid that I just won't—"
"You're afraid that you won't fall in love again," you cut him off and he nods his head. "You're also afraid of falling in love again."
"I just don't want it to happen again, you know, the whole 'heartbreak' situation and everything. I feel like I'm causing such a burden to you." He confesses, "whenever we go out I feel like I'm just dragging you into my own mess because I can't seem to find myself again."
"Look," you prop yourself up on your elbow, looking at him, "it's my job to help people move on and find love again, and if it'll take years for you to find another girl to love, I don't care, I'm going to help you."
He wipes at his eyes and you lay back down beside him, looking up at the stars. Before you open your mouth to speak, he turns towards you.
"(Y/N)?" He asks and you hum in reply, "thank you."
You glance at him and smile genuinely, "this is nothing, don't worry about it."
"Have you ever been in love?"
You feel caught off guard, your eyes widening at his sudden thought. You bite your lip nervously as he looks at you as if he's waiting patiently for an answer. You only feel hesitation as your mind starts to race.
"I have," you whisper, "but what's happened in the past, stays in the past. I've moved on."
The two of you sigh in unison, only to burst out into laughter. You glance at him, only to notice that maybe his fans were right. He was beautiful, he had the face that was made by the gods, his nose sculpting his face and his sharp jawline making him look much more manlier than his real age.
You wonder how a woman could ruin him, how a woman could screw him up and make him feel this way, but you were bound to find out.
❀ ❀❀
[ STEP #4: GO CLUBBING ]
You didn't know how you managed to convince Jungkook to go clubbing with you, but you didn't think it was a bad idea either. He managed to order all the drinks for the two of you, but it was almost as if you were the one getting much more drunk than he was.
However, what you didn't know was that Jungkook was sober. Completely sober. He wasn't the type to get drunk, but with the way you looked so flushed with your cheeks a deep shade of red, he found it amusing, and maybe being sober was a great idea.
"We need to get you home," he mumbles, grabbing you gently as you fall into his arms.
As you look up, your nose brushes against his, and you let out a giggle. "You know, you really handsome. But you know what'll make you look more handsome?"
"Jesus, you're really drunk." He chuckles.
"When you smile more, you look more handsome. Where is that smile?" You frown, pouting your lips. "Is she the reason why you've stopped smiling?"
He wonders why you're the one to get drunk, instead of him. You hoped that he wouldn't notice your bloodshot red eyes when he came to pick you up at your apartment, but there was no way that he couldn't.
He pulls up in the parking lot and manages to get you out of the car without having you throwing up all over his passenger seat. When the two of you head upstairs to your apartment room, he is met with your roommate, Mina.
"Holy Christ," she curses as she lifts one of your arms over her shoulder as she and Jungkook drag you into the flat. "How much did she drink?"
"I didn't think she would drink a lot, she told me it'd be only a couple." He replies and Mina sighs, the two of them lay you down on the bed.
"Will she be okay?" He asks her and she nods her head.
"She'll be fine, I can take it from here. Do you have a ride home?" She replies and he nods his head, and she purses her lips into a line. "Are you.. by any chance.. one of her hookups for tonight?"
Jungkook's eyes widen and he shakes his head almost immediately. "No, no, I'm a.. friend."
"Oh, yikes, sorry about that." Mina laughs nervously, "I was just making sure that she hasn't been doing any funny business, she's not really the type to hookup with.. men."
"I'm her client.. and a friend, don't worry about it." Jungkook reassures her.
The two of them glance at you as you groan, shoving your face into one of your pillows. Rubbing your head, you mumble, "Jungkook-ah, stay."
Mina looks at Jungkook and chuckles, "I guess you could stay the night, I'll go get you some pillows. It seems like she doesn't ever want you to leave."
❀ ❀❀
You woke up with a huge headache, turning away from the sunlight that was peaking through your blinds. But it seemed like it was a huge mistake when your arm gently falls on top of a bare chest. Your eyes widen almost instantly, your vision becomes clear when you notice a shirtless Jungkook sleeping right next to you. Snoring, to be exact.
You immediately grasp your chest, only to find out that you are clothed. You sigh with relief, only for your eyes to widen once again. Pulling up the blankets, you glance down to see that yes, you are clothed, no funny business had happened last night.
"No, we didn't do anything saucy last night. You were too drunk to even keep your eyes open."
You look towards Jungkook, who still had his eyes closed, but it was almost as if he knew exactly what you were thinking. "Sorry, I'm not really into hookups. I like to stay pure as possible, before you know, when I finally get married."
"Yeah, no worries. You just forced me to stay here with you, and the couch wasn't really comfortable to sleep on anyways." He explains, only to turn towards you and pull you closer to his chest. He snuggles into your neck and smiles, "which explains why I'm here beside you."
You freeze in your spot, noticing how your heart starts skipping beats when he snuggles deeper into your neck. He falls asleep once again, and you can only try to remember what had happened last night and why you were the one who got drunk and not him.
❀ ❀❀
[ STEP #5: LET GO ]
"Are you really going to go to his wedding?"
You glance at Mina through your full-body mirror as you fix your cream-coloured dress that you had on. You slowly nod your head in reply, forcing a smile that you both knew was not sincere or real at all.
"That's what best friends are for right? I'm not just his ex-girlfriend, you know." You explain and she purses her lips into a line. "No matter how much it'll hurt."
"You know, I wish I was really strong like you." She smiles sadly, "no matter how much this will hurt you, you still decide to be a friend and go watch the one you love get married to someone else."
"This is all the purpose of letting go, right?" You sigh. "Besides, Jungkook already had plans today, so I figured it was about time for me to go out and do stuff."
"Like watching your best friend aka your ex-boyfriend of almost five years, someone who you were almost going to marry, get married to someone else instead?" She asks and you nod your head.
"It's time to let go, and I'm ready to do it."
❀ ❀❀
"Hyung, I can't believe you're getting married already."
Jungkook glances at Minjae who's fixing up his tie as the two of them stand near the altar. Before Jungkook pats his shoulder, he turns towards the entrance of the church and smiles.
"She's right behind those doors, you know that, right?" He grins and Minjae sighs.
"I just can't wait to finally have her for the rest of my life." Minjae looks nervous, but Jungkook pats his shoulder once again to ease the nervousness.
"Wait, is it still the girl that you were in a relationship for five years? Like, your best friend?" He asks him and Minjae's smile falters. "Oh, I'm guessing it's not her but someone else."
"It's not her," Minjae mumbles. "I did invite her, though. I hope she comes."
"Alright, I'll go see you later. I'm going to find a seat with the other guys. Have fun!" Jungkook flashes him a grin and two thumbs up before heading towards his seat.
As he makes his way to the pew with the other six, his eyes fall upon a familiar girl who was sitting right behind them. As their eyes meet, he slowly starts to smile.
"(Y/N)-ah, you know Minjae?" Jungkook asks and the boys turn around to glance at the two of them. He approaches her and takes a seat right next to her.
She smiles, but it isn't as bright as he usually finds it, and he feels quite uneasy on the inside. She nods her head, in reply and she begins to fiddle with her fingers.
"He's my best friend," she adds, and Jungkook nods his head. "Are you a friend of his too?"
"Yeah, I guess we're mutual friends. What a small world," he mumbles.
"Yeah, it truly is." She nods, and he glances at her one last time.
He notices that she's just not herself. Her body was slumped against the pew, her hands looked clammy and she would fiddle with her fingers almost every now and then. She would bow her head, and never did he once see her look up at the altar where the groom was. He nudges her and she glances at him with a questioning look.
"Are you okay?" He questions her with concern and she shrugs her shoulders.
"I guess."
❀ ❀❀
"If any of you has reasons why these two should not be married, speak now or forever hold your peace."
You bite your lip to stop yourself from bursting out into a sob, even to stop yourself from letting out an 'I object'. Instead, you slowly get out of your pew, and head towards the exit of the church, choking out a sob as you push the doors. Your mind had nothing else to think of but to go far, far away, so far away that you could just let out all your emotions.
She looked beautiful. He looked extremely happy that he was getting married to her. But what hurt you the most was the fact that you were supposed to be that girl, the woman he was getting married to. But it all took another woman to change his mind and to take away all the feelings he once had for you. To leave you.
"Are you the girl?"
You slowly turn around to see Jungkook, who looked like he had ran miles and miles with his mop of hair now messy. You sigh, wiping your tears as you turn your back towards him.
"Would it matter if I told you that I am? He's getting married anyways." Your voice cracks out into a whisper, and he sits down right next to you. "Well then surprise, surprise, it's me."
He frowns, watching you as you continue to sob. He reaches out to your cheeks and wipes away every single tear that manages to escape your already red eyes.
"Funny how I'm the one trying to fix you, how I'm trying to help you move on but here I am, sitting right next to you while you try to fix me." You laugh bitterly. "On top of that, I work at a fucking love clinic where I try to fix broken-hearts even if I can't fix mine."
"Why didn't you stop him?" He asks her and you looks at him with a sad smile.
"Because he looks happy." You answer, "he's happy with her, and if he's happy, then I should be happy for him."
"You're so selfless," he whispers, "how are you going to be happy if you're not the one getting married to him?"
"Well, I can't force him to love me again, right?" You chuckle. "It's about time that I let go, move on, even if it'll hurt."
"Geez, and I even thought my situation with my ex-girlfriend was worse than yours." He sighs, running a hand through his hair. "But no, yours is your best friend and ex-boyfriend of years and he's getting married to another woman."
"Love sucks, Jungkook." You say softly. "That's all I've learned ever since I broke up with him."
Jungkook looks at you once last time, seeing how empty and broken you looked. How the smiles he once saw on your face were no longer there, how the stars in your eyes lost meaning, and how he saw the broken pieces of your heart flow down your tear-stained cheeks as tears.
"Yeah, love truly sucks."
❀ ❀❀
[ STEP #6: FORGET AND HAVE FUN ]
"Jungkook, what are you doing here at five in the morning?"
He pulls you out of your apartment and he locks the door for you with your keys, and forces you down the hallway.
"We're going to watch the sun rise," he smiles, and you groan. "Any problem?"
"Yes, the problem is that I wanna go back to sleep and meet you in about five more hours to help you move on as much as possible before you go on your world tour with your members." You explain and he shakes his head.
"It's not about me anymore, okay?" He reassures her, and the two of you reach the main floor to exit the apartment building. "It's about you and I, fixing our heart-brokenness. Got it?"
"I'm in my pajamas, fool."
❀ ❀❀
"I can't believe you found this place," you say with wide eyes as the two of you sit on the edge of a rooftop of an abandoned bakery shop.
The two of you watch the sun rise, and you rest your head on top of his shoulder. He rests his head on top of yours as the two of you just sit like that, in a long silence, as the sun rises and watches over the big city of Seoul.
"Why did you decide to work at a love clinic?" He asks out of nowhere.
You chuckle, "it's not only because of the money, but I've been told that I'm good at helping others move on from past relationships, even though I can't even help myself."
"That's so weird," he laughs. "You're good at helping others move on from past relationships, but you can't help yourself?"
"Hey, I know it'll take time for me to heal from Minjae, but what matters the most is that I'm actually making progress here." You raise an eyebrow. "Have you noticed any differences with yourself, yet?"
"Mhm," he nods his head. "I've noticed that I've stopped thinking about her, how she's doing, how great her life is right now and how shitty mine is, which by the way, isn't shitty anymore."
"That sounds great," you smile, "I guess you truly are moving on."
"I also realized that, maybe there are other better girls." He shrugs his shoulders.
"Well, I mean, she did cheat on you with some random guy." You add.
"Yeah, she's a bitch. She can go fuck herself." He adds.
The two of you glance at each other before bursting out into loud laughter. He notices how his heart skips a beat when the vibrations of your laughter echo through his ears. He smiles, slowly stopping himself from laughing to watch you laugh.
This has been the first time he had ever seen you so.. natural, and real. The way your wavy hair perfectly fell into place, how you had crinkles at the corners of your eyes whenever you smiled or laughed, how your lips were red and plump, and how beautiful your heart was on the inside and out even though it was broken.
He was slowly starting to admire you.
And maybe, just maybe, you'd be one of those 'better girls'.
❀ ❀❀
"What do I have to do again?"
You sigh, placing your pen down onto the picnic table as you glance at what Jungkook had written so far. He scrunches his nose in confusion, and you notice that he literally only wrote the date.
"The purpose of this activity is basically just to write a 'farewell' letter to the one you love, or should I say, loved, and then we're going to put this into one of these glass bottles and throw it out to the sea." You explain.
"And what is this going to do to help us?" He asks, and you roll your eyes.
"It's to help us forget and to officially move on, I mean, this is the last activity I have planned before you go off to go on tour with the boys." You reply.
"Ah, I see." He nods his head, and he turns away from you to start writing down his letter.
You laugh at how cute he looked, falling into a trance when you notice how deeply invested he is in writing his farewell letter. Your heart stops at the sight of his cute little smile that was formed across his lips and his doe-like eyes that looked from the letter to the sea.
That was until, he turned towards you, catching you openly staring at him.
"You like what you see?" He teases, and your cheeks flush into a deep red.
"N-No, not at all, what are you talking about? I was just making sure you were focused, dumbo."
❀ ❀❀
"There's a carnival happening down at the pier, and since we're already at the dock, why don't we go check it out?" You ask and he agrees.
The two of you arrive at the carnival and instantly head towards the roller coasters. He admires how you're at the tip of your toes, eager to ride the roller coaster with him. With a smile on his face, you catch him staring at you.
"Need something?" You ask him and he shakes his head.
"No, it's just," he begins, "I've never rode on roller coasters with Sori."
"Sori?" You ask and it hits you. "Ah, Sori, your ex. Why? Is she scared of roller coasters?"
"Yeah, but I find them exciting." He smiles.
"Me too!"
After the two of you rode all the roller coasters, the two of you headed for the ferris wheel to cool things off before you both part ways, with Jungkook going for his world tour, and with you going back to reality to find a new client to help.
As the two of you sat down in your cart, you sigh, closing your eyes.
"It's been a long day, but it has been a fun day, to be exact." You say softly, "I won't ever forget this day."
"Me either," he agrees, "but after today, I don't think I'll ever see you again until.. two months?"
"Two months from now?" You open one eye and he nods, "geez, you're going to be really tired."
"But it's something I love to do," he says with pride and you clap. "What are you clapping for?"
"I'm clapping because we've finally moved on, or at least, are halfway there. As long as we're both ready to move on from our horrible relationships then I guess we know what to do from there, huh?" You smile. "And besides, I think—"
"Thank you."
You open both of your eyes to see him looking at you with a serious look on his face. You laugh, looking at him confusedly. "For what?"
"For helping me move on, I mean, you did see how horrible I was when I first entered into that clinic for help but," he hesitates, "it really did help me."
"Well, that sounds great." You nudge him playfully, giving him two thumbs up. "Are you ready to fall in love again, though?"
He glances at you and slowly smiles, "yeah, I'm ready to fall in love again."
You gasp, giving him a high five, "that sounds great!"
His heart skips a beat one last time and it's almost as if time froze. His smile reaches his ears, but you're not one to notice as you're looking out the window to watch the whole carnival from the top of the ferris wheel.
I'm ready to fall in love again, as long as it's you.
❀ ❀❀
"Are you sure you're not falling in love with Jungkook? You've been talking about him all day, I'm kind of getting tired of it." Mina groans.
"I'm not in love with him," you say defensively, "it's just, he's a special friend, and he's going on tour tomorrow, which is why I'm preparing him this gift."
"I don't think a long ass letter and things that a girlfriend would give her boyfriend before he leaves her for a long time is an actual gift from a friend." She teases. "Are you really sure that you're not falling in love with him?"
"No." You say sternly. "Even if I do, there would be no chance at all. I'm just that girl who helped him move on—"
"Helped him move on, yeah, I know. But they always say that people fall in love with the person who helped them fix their broken heart. Isn't that you?" She adds. "And on top of that, the guy seemed like he actually gave a shit about you. Like that time when you were so fucking drunk that he actually sacrificed a night filled with fun to—"
"He's not an alcohol drinker—"
"To drop you home here, and when you forced him to stay here—"
"I actually still don't believe that I forced him to stay with me—"
"And actually share a bed with him, and also like that time when you went to Minjae's wedding and he came chasing after you after you ran out of the church to cry your eyes out—"
"He didn't actually chase after me, he just ran after me to check if I was okay—"
"And that other time when he actually brought you food every now and then, I even saw you guys feeding each other, don't even think about lying—"
"He sprained his wrist, his dominant wrist, how could he have fed himself—"
"And that time when you guys watched the sun rise together, did you actually think that I didn't know you guys left the apartment that morning?"
You sigh in defeat and she knows she had won the argument. Placing Jungkook's gift into a bag, along with the letter, you plop back down onto the couch. Mina plops down right next to you and wiggles her eyebrows.
Muttering, you fiddle with your fingers, "well then, so what if I'm falling in love with him?"
"So, you are falling in love with him?" You slowly nod your head and she lets out the biggest squeal. "I knew it! I'm calling Taehyung to give me my money."
"Wait, so you both made a bet on me falling in love with Jungkook?" You ask incredulously and she smiles. "Wait, how do you even know Taehyung—you know what, whatever, you can go celebrate your victory while I leave you here."
❀ ❀❀
You arrive at Jungkook's dorm and head down the hallway to reach his door. You stop right in front of the door, knocking softly and you hear shuffling coming near. As the door opens, you glance down at your gift, smiling at all the thought you put into it.
Suddenly, you look up to see an unfamiliar woman standing at the door. Your eyes start from her messy hair all tied up in a ponytail, down to her body—her upper body covered by a familiar t-shirt, and her lower body only covered by her underwear—you winced at the sight.
"Can I help you?" She asks, and you're completely speechless that you just stand there.
"I—uh, can I see Jungkook?" You question her and she giggles.
"Sorry, he's not available right now, as you can tell—"
"Sori-ah, you need to get out—(Y/N)-ah.."
You look past the woman's shoulder to see Jungkook standing a metre away from her. Just like the woman, he was completely shirtless, his hair was messy, and he had shorts on. However, your eyes catch the numerous hickeys that trail across his collarbones. You furrow your eyebrows in confusion.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't introduce myself, how rude of me," the woman snaps you out of your trance, and you glance at her. She smiles at you, tilting her head to the side, "I'm Sori, and you are?"
Your eyes widen, and they begin to squint straight at her. You didn't know how to feel, whether you felt betrayed or heartbroken, you couldn't put your finger on it. But all you knew was that your blood was boiling, and you just had to leave.
"Well," you look past her shoulder, your eyes meeting with Jungkook, "well, I am just about to leave. Nice meeting you, Sori. And Jungkook? Have a great night, looks like you've already been having fun."
Turning around, you begin to walk down the hallway, tears threatening to spill out of your eyes. Until suddenly, you are pulled back and turned to face Jungkook, who was still shirtless. You don't look at him in the eye because you have never felt so disgusted.
"Let me explain—"
You cut him off with a bitter laugh. "I don't think there's anything to explain, Jungkook."
"Please—"
You courageously look up at him, smiling bitterly, "is this how betrayal feels?"
"(Y/N)—"
"No, you tell me." You interrupt him. "Is this how betrayal feels after you've literally became friends with a guy who's so hung up over his ex-girlfriend, after you've helped him move on, after you believe him when he says that he's moved on, after he thanks you, and after he fucks his ex-girlfriend right before he goes on his world tour right behind your back?"
"Let me explain." He looks desperate, and you couldn't help but scoff.
"No, explain to me," you shake your head, "have you really moved on? Or were you just lying to me this whole time? I sure deserve an explanation because I just wasted three damn weeks on your hopeless ass."
"Jungkook-ah, are you coming back or what?" You look past his shoulder to see Sori twirling a strand of her hair in between her fingers.
You sigh, looking back at him. He tries to reach out for your hands, but you move away from him.
"I think you should go back to Sori after you've practically fucked her brains out." You mutter, throwing your gift towards him, and he stumbles back by the impact.
"You know I don't love her anymore." He says and you shrug your shoulders.
"I don't know if I should believe you," you whisper, a tear escaping your eye. "And to think that I was slowly falling in love with you, and I came all the way here to tell you how I felt about you only to be greeted by your ex-girlfriend who's reeks of sex."
His head hangs low, and you wipe at your eyes, shaking your head. You turn around, making your way down the hallway towards the elevator. When you reach the elevator, you turn over your shoulder to see him still standing there.
"Have fun on your world tour, superstar." You frown, "you both disgust me, especially you."
❀ ❀ ❀
[ 2 MONTHS LATER ]
"Thanks for all your hard work, guys. Let's have a toast for the end of this world tour."
The boys hold up their glasses and clink, chugging down their wine. Meanwhile, Jungkook down his own drink in one swallow, slamming the cup back down onto the dining table. He sighs, leaning back in his seat as he pulls out his phone, opening the lockscreen to see a picture of you. His thumb moves across the screen, and he stares at the picture before it disappears into a black screen.
"Jungkook-ah, you don't look so happy that we've just finished the tour." Hoseok says as the boys turn towards him with looks of concern.
"He's just love sick, maybe even hung up on a girl." Yoongi suggests, patting his back as Jungkook glares at him. "What? It's true, you don't even have to lie."
"Don't tell me it's my best friend that works at the love clinic in Hongdae." Taehyung warns him, raising an eyebrow. When Jungkook falls silent, Taehyung gasps. "Are you fucking serious?"
"I'm fucking serious, Taehyung." Jungkook mutters. "And it's all my fault."
"What the fuck did you do?" Jimin questions the younger one. "Did you.. hook up with her?"
Jimin groans as Taehyung smacks him back in the head. "My best friend does not fuck men just to satisfy her desires, okay?"
"What did you do?" Yoongi asks. Jungkook sighs.
"She fell in love with me." Jungkook replies, "and on the night she tried to confess, she saw Sori at my place."
"Well, fuck." Hoseok purses his lips into a line. "Does she know what happened, though?"
Jungkook places his head into his hands, shaking his head.
"No, she doesn't. I wish she did."
❀ ❀ ❀
"Yeah, I'm on my home right now. You're not coming back home?" You ask Mina, who sounds drunk as ever. "Oh, hi Chanwoo, yeah, is that fine if she can stay over at your place for the night? Thanks. I'll pick her up tomorrow. Bye."
You shove your phone into your pocket as you stepped out of your elevator. Going through your bag, you search for your house keys at the same time as you walk down the hallway. Finally pulling them out, you stop in your tracks to see a familiar man sitting against your door.
"J-Jungkook?" You mumble, and he opens one eye, bursting out into a giggle before letting out a small hiccup. "What are you doing here?"
"Hi Mina, when will (Y/N) come home? I've been waiting for her all night," he says in a drunk slur, hiccuping in between his words. You tilt your head in confusion.
Sighing to yourself, you grab his arms and pull him up. Wrapping his arm around your shoulder, you unlock your door and bring the both of you inside your apartment. He stumbles here and there, but by the time you let him crash onto your bed, you fold your arms.
"Why are you drunk?" You ask him and he shrugs his shoulders.
"I don't know, but please don't tell (Y/N) that I got drunk, she knows I'm not into alcohol." He smiles, his eyelids forcing to shut.
"Let's get you fixed and dressed up." You say softly as you grab loose clothing that'll fit him perfectly.
When you come back into your room, you reach out towards his waist to pull of his shirt but you are stopped by his two hands. You glance at him and he stares straight into your eyes.
"Don't. Only (Y/N) can do this to me, why are you undressing me?" He asks and you feel your heart stop.
"It's me, Jungkook. It's (Y/N)." You reassure him, and his eyes slightly widen before letting go of your hands. You strip him and help put his new set of clothes on.
As you go to the bathroom to get a wet cloth and a bowl filled with water, you hear Jungkook talking from your bedroom. You furrow your eyebrows in confusion, and when you come back from your bathroom, you see him leaning against the wall on your bed.
He was talking to himself, but he looked completely drunk. You couldn't help but laugh.
"I wish she knew that Sori and I did nothing she thought we did." He slurs, "I wish she knew that Sori just forced herself on me, and that she came on time to stop Sori from going any further."
You purse your lips into a line, watching him as he continued to speak.
"I didn't have sex with her. (Y/N) just caught us on time, Sori just took my shirt off and wore it before she started to unbuckle my pants. She was drunk, I didn't know how to get her out."
"So.. no funny business?" You ask softly, and he shakes his head, shutting his eyes.
"No funny business. But when (Y/N) came and saw us, I knew that she was disappointed in me, and when she started to cry I didn't know how to explain myself." He wipes his eyes and you realize that he's crying. "When she left, I kicked Sori out and I cried all night, even the world tour went horribly because—"
Before he could finish his sentence, you ran over to him with the bowl and he threw up. You sigh, rubbing his back as he coughs. You dump all of it into the toilet, flushing it all down, and when you head back into your bedroom, you see him knocked out.
You take a seat right next to his lying figure, and you lean your head against the wall. Looking down at him, your hand hovers his head, hesitating, but slowly, you run your fingers through his hair. Your hand trails down towards his cheek, and he snuggles against it. You grow warmer when his hand finds yours, holding it tightly as he nuzzles closer to you.
"I'm still in love with you, Jungkook-ah," you whisper, laughing softly, "it takes a whole lot of effort to move on from you."
❀ ❀ ❀
Your eyes flutter open, and are blinded by the sunlight peaking through your blinds. You turn around, hoping to see Jungkook, but you frown when you don't see him at all. You got up from your bed, heading outside to the living room to find no one.
It was still the same Jungkook who came and went, and you wonder why he would just leave you like that.
Entering into the kitchen, you see a note on the dining table and you grab it. You see the words I'm sorry and I don't deserve you written on it with Jungkook's handwriting. You frown even more, until you're distracted by the door opening.
You glance towards Mina, who finally arrives from a wild night at the bar.
"Seems like you had a great night," you chuckle and Mina sighs.
"Tell me to not get drunk again."
❀ ❀ ❀
The night comes, and you're still waiting for Jungkook to come back, even if he didn't plan on doing so. You glance at the note every now and then, and ever since, you've tried to keep yourself busy to stop yourself from thinking about it.
After eating dinner, you sat in front of the TV and watched all your shows, looking out the window to see that it was pouring outside.
"I'll go the convenience store to grab some snacks, do you want anything?" You look at Mina, who was putting her shoes on. You shake your head. "Alright, just call me if you change your mind."
She heads out and you're once again, alone. You've always loved silence, for it calmed you down, but you've noticed that you were slowly hating it.
Suddenly, there is a knock on the door that jolts you into standing up. You head towards the door and open it to see Jungkook, all soaking wet. Your eyes widen.
"Jungkook-ah—"
"Hit me. Do whatever you need, because I deserve it." He cuts you off, and you furrow your eyebrows in confusion.
"I'm not going to hit you—"
"I'm sorry," he whispers, not looking you in the eye, "I'm sorry for everything."
You just stand there, waiting for him to continue. You knew that Jungkook would come back every time he left, it was just how he was. You knew that giving him time to think about his concerns would help. And maybe doing just that brought him here.
"But I just can't help it." He sighs.
"I can't help the fact that I've been losing my mind over you. Ever since that night, I couldn't stop thinking about you and how you told me that you were slowly falling in love with me. But when you told me that you were falling in love with me, I was terrified. I was scared because I just don't deserve you. You're absolutely perfect, your soul is beautiful that I just know that I don't deserve any of it."
"Why didn't you come back for me?"
"I was scared that you'd shut me out of your life after you've practically seen me with Sori, after you thought that I betrayed you. But when I went on tour, it just made everything worse. I was growing guilty, I was starting to miss you, I was starting to fall in love with you too."
"Y-You were falling in love with me?"
"And over time, I started to love you so bad, my heart was starting to hurt so good. But I'd always remember how horrible I am, and how perfect you are, and that I just.. don't deserve you at all."
"But you're here, Jungkook."
"I know, because I've been arguing with myself for two goddamn months straight. And I don't care if I don't deserve you at all. I don't care if I'm horrible, if I'm so broken. I don't care if you're perfect and that I'm just being too stubborn, but, I'm in love with you. I'm in love with you, (Y/N)."
"Jungkook.."
"Please give me a chance." He stares at you, grabbing your hands into his and you love how perfectly they intertwine with each other. "Even if it'll hurt me, I don't care. Are you still in love with me?"
You sigh, "Jungkook-ah, I've always been in love with you."
Tears come out of his eyes as he pulls you into a hug, you wrap your arms around his neck. You snuggle into his chest, feeling his arms wrap around your waist.
"I love you." You whisper, "even if it'll hurt."
"I love you too."
❀ ❀ ❀
"Are you sure there was no funny business?"
The two of you stare at Taehyung, who so happened to be lying next to Mina, completely shirtless. On the other hand, Mina, was also topless. The two of them laugh nervously as you glance at Jungkook, smiling.
"I mean, you don't have to lie to us, it's pretty crystal clear that there was funny business last night." Jungkook shrugs his shoulders.
"Anyways, Jungkook and I are going to stroll around Hongdae. You guys can continue having fun, alright?" You insist as Mina blushes.
Turning towards Jungkook, you smirk, "anyways, you owe me fifty thousand won."
Mina glares at you, "did you seriously just bet on the two of us to end up together?"
You and Jungkook glance at each other with huge grins, only to be hit by pillows thrown by Taehyung and Mina.
"Ouch! What the hell?! This is what you get for making a bet on my relationship with Jungkook!"
