Every once in a while, we have the good fortune to come across someone who changes our lives forever. Whether it's for better or for worse, it changes. The story that you're about to hear is about one of those such people. Her name is Virginia Ross and I think I'm in love with her.

First let me just say that isn't going to be your classic love story that you know what's going to happen and then you stop listening because it's too boring for your liking. No, this won't be an ordinary story because Virginia isn't an ordinary girl.

We met in ninth grade but I don't think she remembers. We had just started high school and she was a mousy kid that no one paid any attention to. I was strolling through the halls when she walked by with her glasses and braces. And then she tripped, spilling her books everywhere. I bent down to help her and we made eye contact.

It was like time froze in that single, perfect instant. I realized then how beautiful she was. She had the kind of beauty that didn't beg for attention, but instead, stayed in the background, just like the person that beauty was attached to. But now she had my attention. Her eyes seemed to reflect so much joy and happiness, I was taken aback. It seemed that there was so much that nobody knew about Virginia Ross, but I was determined to find out what she was hiding. It was like she was a mystery that no one wanted to take the time to figure out. Virginia broke away from my gaze, mumbled a quick, "sorry" and scampered away.

I grabbed her wrist and handed her the rest of her books. She turned to face me and tried to start a conversation but I had already spun around and hooked a right into the next hallway.

I never saw that beautiful mystery again until the next year.
