2 || The New Venue.
Hey honey, it's me. Just wanted to tell you Lena came through with a new venue for us. I wish I were telling you this in person instead of over the phone. Anyway, call me back as soon as you get this. I love you.
"Still not picking up?" Lena asks the moment Audrey hung up the phone. She nods, a soft sigh escaping her lips.
"He's probably in a meeting. He'll call back later," Audrey replies, not believing her own words. A meeting? This late in the day? Something didn't seem right about that. And she planned to find out what he was really doing after she checks out the new venue and dance studio...with Lena.
"A meeting my ass," Lena mumbles to herself with a small frown. She was just as bothered by this as Audrey is, but she had to remember this wasn't her fiancé. The most she could do is sit back and let everything unfold. And be ready to step in whenever Audrey needs her, of course.
"You're not believing it either, huh?" Audrey asks, looking down at her lap. Her fingers gently tap an unknown beat on her thigh as she waits for Lena's answer. Lena glances over at her best friend briefly, letting out a soft sigh, before diverting her attention back to the road. Audrey looks up at Lena, her tone a bit softer as she continues speaking, "It's okay, you can say it."
"I-," Lena began to say, and stopped herself. She wanted her best friend to have a good time. She didn't want to upset her. Clearing her throat, she started her sentence over, "We're almost to the venue. And afterward, we'll head over to the dance studio. Are you excited?"
Taken aback by the sudden change in subject, Audrey mumbled a barely audible, "Yeah, I can't wait."
"Neither can I. It's going to be so fun," The excitement in Lena's voice made Audrey smile her first real smile since their trip began. She chuckles softly as Lena makes a left at the light, "Look, we're finally here."
Audrey gasps at the beautiful sight before her, taking in her surroundings. Lush green grass, tall trees, flowers blooming. It made her even more excited to see the inside. Now, If only she could get her fiancé on the same page, things would be perfect.
"Okay, so I had them move everything they were going to set up in the old venue here," After cutting the engine, Lena turned a bit in her seat to look at Audrey, "I hope that's alright with you."
"Of course," Audrey replies, giving her a quick smile, "I'm just glad they allowed the change even though this was so last minute."
"I'm glad they did, too. If they didn't, the wedding would've probably had to be postponed. This was the only venue that had an opening."
"Yeah," With a soft sigh, Audrey's eyes drifted from Lena down to her lap, focusing on her fingers fiddling with the hem of her dress, "I appreciate you helping out with the wedding. I know you're not particularly fond of-."
"Audrey, no matter how I feel about him, I'm still doing this for you. No matter what," Lena took Audrey's slightly trembling hand away from her dress and held it in hers, "You're my best friend. If he makes you happy, then I'm happy."
"..."
"Is he...making you happy? If he isn't, I'll knock-."
"Lena, it's fine. I'm happy."
"Are you sure?" Lena's light blue orbs searched Audrey's for any signs of wanting to back out. All she had to do was say the word and they'd leave right now.
"Yes, I'm sure."
"Okay," Still not believing her best friend but taking her word for it anyway, she lets out a soft sigh, tucking a few unruly locks behind her ear with her free hand, "Did you want to see the venue first before we check out that class?"
"Sure."
"Now, don't freak out," Lena lets Audrey's hand go to unbuckle her seat belt, "They've informed me that it's only halfway done."
"What?!"
"I said, don't freak out, Audrey."
"I'm not," Letting out a shaky breath, Audrey unbuckled her seat belt, "I'm just worried that this won't be done in time."
"It will. They're just taking a little longer than we anticipated."
"Well, let's go inside and see exactly how much longer they need."
"Okay."
The moment they stepped inside, Audrey looked around, taking in her surroundings. She could already spot some things that were either out of place or needed to be fixed, but she chose to remain silent and let Lena handle it. She didn't want to say anything that could cause them to lose the venue.
"I will talk to them about all of this. Don't worry," Lena immediately spoke up the moment she noticed Audrey's wandering eyes. Audrey nods, turning to look at her.
"I know you will. I just didn't realize how much still needed to be done."
"Me too. It'll be ready for the wedding. I promise."
"Don't make promises you can't keep, Le," she replies, sighing softly as her eyes scan the room again, "Let's just get out of here. I think I've seen enough."
"But, you ha-."
"Lena-."
"Okay, fine," Lena tucks her hair behind her ear, slightly pouting over her friend's sudden change in mood, "Could we at least stop by that dance studio before I take you home?"
"Sure," Audrey replies softly, a small smile making its way to her ruby red lips. Anything would be better than being here right now, she thought as she took another look around.
The place was beautiful, she had to admit, but nothing would allow her to overlook the fact that her wedding is quickly approaching and things are only halfway done. Halfway.
Just wait until her fiancé hears about this. If he ever calls back, that is.
. . .
"Lena, I don't know about this. I'm not exactly dressed to dance," Audrey's eyes roamed over her current attire. White blouse, denim jeans, heels. She was more dressed for a casual dinner date than anything. No way was she prepared for any dance classes. Lena sighed, slowing her steps down a bit so Audrey could catch up.
"Audrey, you knew we were coming here. Why didn't you at least keep a change of clothes in your trunk?"
"Because I thought we were just going to check the class out. Not participate right away!"
"You know me. I'm not just going to bring you here to sit on your butt and watch other people dance."
"Right. I forgot how stubborn you could be sometimes," Audrey huffed, her breath becoming shakier with each step, "Could you slow down? Why are you in such a hurry?"
"Sorry. The class is about to start and we can't be late."
"What's so good about this class anyway?"
"You'll see once we get inside," Holding the door open for Audrey, Lena allowed a small smile to slowly make its way to her lips. If the description she read about this place was anything close to what they were possibly going to experience, then they were in for a pleasant surprise.
"Are you sure we're in the right place? I don't hear any music."
"I don't think you will until the instructor walks in."
"Oh," Opening one more door, Audrey immediately wanted to cower into a corner. There were so many eyes on her.
"So, this is what it feels like to be a newbie, huh?" Lena chuckled lightly, her voice barely above a whisper, as they found an empty spot on the other side of the room. Audrey nodded.
Guess she wasn't the only one that was nervous.
"I guess so. When is this class supposed to start?"
"In a few m-."
"Please forgive me for being late," The door slammed shut before Lena could even finish her sentence, grabbing the attention of everyone in the room. Audrey's breath caught in her throat.
This is our instructor?
A/N: Gonna stop it right there for now. Hope you all enjoyed the update! 😉.
Happy birthday, Prince 💜
