1.|| Anything Else But Fine.

"Will you marry me?"

After hearing those four little words and answering his question with an enthusiastic yes, Audrey's life was drastically changed for the better...or worse depending on how she looked at it. She was suddenly thrust into making quick decisions she's never had to make before. Wedding dresses, cakes, venues, guest lists. It was all so foreign to her. Luckily, she appointed her best friend as maid of honor to help her or else she would have completely lost it.

"What's next on the list?" Audrey asks her best friend, Lena , breaking her train of thought. Lena turns to her and smiles.

"Well, we have another fitting at two, and we have to put in an order for that cake we tasted a couple of days ago. Oh, and we have to book a new venue. The one we already had mixed up the dates and had you booked later than you intended. I know you both don't want that, so..."

"No, you're right. We don't. Go ahead and book a new venue."

"Okay. Anywhere specific?"

"Not that I can think of at the moment," Audrey mumbles softly, twiddling the pen between her fingers. Lena sighs.

"Alright, well I'll figure out something. If you don't like it, let me know before I book it."

"I will."

"Are you sure you want to do this? Marry him?" Lena asks softly after a few minutes of silence. She knew her best friend well enough to decipher when something was bothering her, but this was different. She'd never seen her so distracted or nonchalant about her wedding.

"Yes, I'm sure," Audrey replies, making Lena shake her head at the hesitation in her tone, "Why?"

"I- I was just making sure before we go any further with this planning."

Lena wasn't one to bite her tongue about anything, but she decided to keep quiet. For now. She could tell that Audrey wasn't ready to marry this man, especially after the way she explained his quick proposal. But rather than upset her best friend, she decided not to say anything.

"Oh," Audrey mumbles, placing her pen down and standing to her feet, "I'm going to get something to drink. You want anything?"

"No. I'm okay, thank you," Lena replies, her eyes still fixated on the notebook in front of her. She sighs, "I need to check out some of these venues and book one before they're all taken."

"Right. Well, I'll be back. Don't book anything without me."

"I won't," Lena chuckles, briefly looking up at her best friend before diverting her attention back to her notebook.

Eager to get a moment to herself, Audrey made a beeline for the kitchen in a flash, avoiding the questioning gaze of her cook as she walked over to the refrigerator to find something to cool her parched throat. Subconsciously, she wished for something a bit stronger to soothe her rattled nerves.

"Something wrong, Ms. Audrey?," Stacey, her cook, finally spoke up after a few minutes, startling Audrey a little. She turned to her and smiled, shutting the refrigerator door at the same time.

"No, of course not," She mumbles, twisting the cap off her water bottle and taking a sip before speaking again, "Why?"

"It's just. You seemed a little...off. That's all. I was checking to make sure there wasn't anything bothering you."

"I'm fine, Stacey. Really," Audrey tells her, allowing a small smile to briefly pass her lips. Stacey smiled back as Audrey continued speaking, "I've got a wedding to plan. i can't afford to be anything else but fine right now."

Stacey just nods, taking in Audrey's words. Something didn't feel right about the way she said them, but she decided not to bring it up.

For now.

"Where is your husband to be anyway? Shouldn't he be here with you?" The words left Stacey's lips so quickly, she didn't have time to stop them. Audrey frowned, feeling tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. She blinked them away as Stacey continued speaking, "Ms. Audrey, I'm-."

"It's alright, Stacey," Audrey cut her off, blinking back a fresh set of tears, "He's away on a business trip and will be back next week. Did you finish up the menu for the wedding?"

Caught off guard by the abrupt change in subject, Stacey muttered, "Yes. It's all done."

"Good. I'll look it over later and let you know if anything else needs to be added or taken away."

And with that, Audrey went back into the living room to check on Lena's progress with the new venue. Stacey wished she could've said more, but she didn't want to seem like she was prying. She hoped Audrey was making the right decision.

"Oh good. You're back," Lena says with a small smile after hearing Audrey's heels clacking against the wood floor, announcing her arrival, "Take a look at this."

"What am I looking at?" Audrey asks, sitting next to Lena while keeping her eyes on the computer screen. Lena's smile grew wide.

"A potential venue for you," She begins proudly, pausing to take a moment to scroll through the page, "See, it has a reception area and everything. Oh, it's also located three blocks away from the new dance studio I was telling you about."

"Oh no."

"Oh yes," Lena replies with a light chuckle, making Audrey shake her head in protest, "I'm signing both of us up so you won't have to go alone."

"Who said I was going?"

"I did. It'll be fun. And you could show off your new moves at your wedding reception."

Audrey thought about it for a moment. She did want to become a better dancer. Well, at the very least learn some new moves. What's the harm in that?

"Alright, book the venue and sign us up."

"Yes!" Lena exclaimed happily with a clap of her hands before quickly reaching out to save her laptop from falling. Audrey chuckled, "This is going to be fun. You'll see."

"I hope so," Audrey mumbles softly with a sigh. Anything that'll take the pressure off planning this wedding is just what she needs.
