12 You and Me

They lived in towns like you and me
With lives and friends and hopes and dreams.

They loved their kids and families
They also loved their own country.

So when the planes, flown by the Japs,
Turned Pearl Harbor into scraps

They read the news, they heard the call
Many men, both big and small,

They left their homes, walked out the door,
To serve the flag, to join the war.

They rode in boats, they flew in planes,
Despite their color, race, or name.

They lived and slept and fought together,
Through the bombs and awful weather.

Some were soldiers, some were airmen.
They all lived and died as freemen.

Always free to serve and fly,
So they served by how they died,

As members of this one country,
Just like you and just like me.
