Chapter 1 *REWRITTEN*

I was enjoying how warm my comforter was and how soft the memory foam mattress was and I turned over to get more comfortable, but the sound of a knock at my front door disturbed me. I groaned when I realized the person was not going away.

I sighed, getting up from my comfy bed, wondering why the hell I was being woken up at 7:30 am.

I quickly caught sight of my appearance when I looked at my mirror hanging on the wall in the hallway. Messy brown hair, dark circles from the lack of sleep since I had a few rough missions, and smeared eye makeup.

I opened the door, still fighting off sleep, seeing my brother at the door.

"Asuma?"

"Sorry, I woke up you, didn't I?" He chuckled.

I nodded, "Yeah, you did,"

I invited him inside, and he took a seat on my couch, and I sat down on the ottoman in front of him. I reached for the hairclip on my side table that slid under the couch and threw my hair up in a messy ponytail with the claw clip.

"Any reason for the early visit?" I ask.

"Yeah, I came by to ask you a question," He replied. "Remember when I told you that I would become a sensei for a group of genin? I met them today and was wondering if you want to come with me to introduce ourselves at a training ground,"

I thought about it but wondered why they would need to meet me.

Asuma seemed to notice my question by my expression, "You're my sister, and I wouldn't want you to  be a stranger to them since you'll be around a lot anyway,"

Fair enough.

"Alright, I can go. Where do you want to meet?" I ask.

"Meet at the training ground we usually trained at when we were kids in an hour," He answered and stood up to leave with a teasing smirk. "And not on Kasumi time either,"

I rolled my eyes at his comment, smiling a little, "I know. I won't be late this time."

After he left, I rushed to the bathroom to start showering and getting ready for the day. I also had to put on foundation and light eyeshadow so I wouldn't look like I hadn't slept in days since I actually didn't get good sleep earlier this week from my recent mission.

I rushed out the door, seeing I was doing good on time.

I noticed Asuma was sitting on a tree stump, waiting for his students to arrive. I sat down next to him, and he couldn't resist another remark about me being on time.

"Glad you're here early," He teased.

"Yeah, yeah," I waved my hand, "I can be early when I need to be,"

I adjusted my shorts and maroon zip-up jacket, noticing three silhouettes in the distance. That was his students.

There was a boy with spiky black hair and brown eyes, a girl with blonde hair and bright blue eyes, and another boy who was a bit chubby and had swirls on his cheeks. I could already tell which clan they were from since they closely resembled their parents—especially the boy with the swirls on his cheeks.

The three students looked at me questioningly.

"I thought we could properly introduce ourselves here," Asuma told them. "I'm excited to be your teacher and we will have daily training exercises,"

The boy with the spiky hair groaned. "What a drag,"

I smirked at how similar he was to his father.

"Let's get introduced now," Asuma said, pointing at the girl. "Starting with you,"

"I'm Ino Yamanaka,"

"Choji," The boy with the swirls paused to eat his chips. "Akimichi,"

"Shikamaru Nara," The last one said.

They all looked at me expectantly. That was my cue to introduce myself now.

"I'm Kasumi Sarutobi," I started. "I'm Asuma's sister, and I came by since he thought it would be a good idea to get to know me since you guys will probably be seeing me around frequently,"

"Well, I'm glad to have another girl in the group because Shikamaru sucks at talking about certain topics," Ino remarked, causing Shikamaru to roll his eyes.

"That's because you want to talk about boys, and I don't care about that," Shikamaru retorted.

I chuckled at their banter.

"Wait, since you guys are brother and sister, who's older?" Choji asked, still munching on chips.

"I am," Asuma replied. "She's the youngest one out of our siblings,"

"I'm still in charge, though," I smirked.

Asuma now changed the topic to their goals and aspirations. Choji's goal was to get stronger, Shikamaru didn't know what his goal was right now and claimed it was a drag to stress about that right now, and Ino's goal instantly changed my mood.

"My goal is to beat Sakura!" She stated with confidence. "Because I'm the one who's going to win Sasuke over! Not her!"

It wasn't Sasuke or the girl she had mentioned; his last name soured my mood.

Uchiha.

Hearing that only brings back memories I wanted to suppress.

I never moved on from the death of my best friend. No matter how hard I tried to move on. Sometimes, time doesn't heal all wounds.

Shisui Uchiha was like a brother to me. He always made me laugh or smile, even when I was annoyed with him or angry at something else, and he was always protective. I met him when I was a student at the academy, and we became close friends after sitting next to each other.

His death was something that weighed heavily on my heart. Not only does the last name Uchiha bring painful memories back, but it also makes me angry because it was none other than Itachi Uchiha who murdered him.

I missed Shisui so much. He didn't deserve to be murdered by that traitorous scum.

I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard the three genin shouting.

"What?! You can't just fail us like that Asuma-Sensei! You're our sensei; the whole point of your being our sensei is to teach us!" Ino exclaimed.

"What a drag," Shikamaru complained. Do we have to attack you for real? Why can't we have a simple training exercise instead?"

Choji was the only one who was silent and looked like he was panicking internally.

"I'm not changing anything. You won't become a ninja if you fail, either. Now start," Asuma said strictly.

I was surprised by Asuma's strictness. I've only ever seen him that serious once, and that was because he thought Shisui was my boyfriend when he came home to Shisui and me training in our backyard. After he pulled the protective brother act, I had to clarify that Shisui and I were only platonic friends.

Remembering that only made my chest tighten in pain. I had to get my mind off of him.

The three genin started their test, and so far, Ino and Shikamaru have been doing well, but Choji, on the other hand, has been left behind. I felt bad for him because his expression told me he wasn't confident in himself at all.

That look on his face was all too familiar. I used to feel the same way, but you can guess who helped me build confidence when we were kids.

Choji was falling behind even more, making me wonder if he would pass or if Asuma would cut him some slack. Choji probably needed more of a confidence boost. I raised an eyebrow when Shikamaru started to insult him.

"C'mon fatso!" Shikamaru exclaimed.

Choji suddenly snapped and became angry. "I'm not fat! I'm just big-boned!"

He ran towards Asuma and almost landed a full-on hit. Asuma stopped him and just smiled at them while they were all confused.

"You guys passed,"

Choji snapped out of his rage, and all three of them looked relieved at the fact they passed.

"Sorry, Choji. I had to get you to snap out of it; otherwise, you would've failed," Shikamaru apologized.

Choji grunted. "You know how much that pisses me off, Shikamaru,"

"This will prove to Sasuke that I am much stronger than Billboard Brow," Ino grinned.

"How about I treat all of you to barbecue?" Asuma asked. Choji just shouted in excitement, making Ino sweat drop.

Asuma then turned to me. "You should come too, it's my treat,"

I agreed to come with them, and we walked to the restaurant. Choji's stomach growled loudly as we walked in, and he was impatient as we walked inside.

"Let's eat already! I'm starving!" He exclaimed loudly and rushed over to a table.

Ino and Shikamaru sat next to him while Asuma and I sat across from them. He just discussed their next plan and how they would get a real mission tomorrow, which excited them all. The waitress came by to take our order and said she would return with our drinks.

Asuma turned the little grill on our table on to get it started. The waitress came by with our drinks and the big plate of raw meat about ten minutes later. Choji immediately started barbecuing the beef strips and ate quickly, irritating Ino.

"Choji, stop! You're going to eat all of the food!" Ino protested, but he ignored her.

"No worries, I'll order more if we run low," I said.

"Okay," Ino sighed. "But that's just going to make our bill really expensive,"

As we ate our lunch, I told the students more about myself and told them stories about different parts of my life. I told them about the antics I would pull and how Shisui or my friend Hana Inuzuka would have to bail me out somehow.

Talking about Shisui only reminded me of the hatred I had for Itachi. I don't even understand what happened there. I always thought Itachi was this quiet and stoic guy, and suddenly, he killed everyone but his little brother.

"There was also this time when I got in trouble for fighting with a girl who later became my teammate, and my friend took the blame for me. Still got grounded, though, because someone snitched," I shot a playful glare at Asuma.

"Wow, Asuma-Sensei," Ino shook her head playfully. "You should've covered for her at least,"

Asuma chuckled, "She wouldn't have learned her lesson if I didn't,"

We checked the time and noticed it was time for them to start their first training exercise. He let them leave early for the training ground, telling them he would cover the bill. He picked up the glass of his sake he ordered and took a sip while looking at the bill.

He then choked on his sake and started coughing, putting the bill down.

"That bad?" I ask, curiously glancing over at the bill.

My eyes widened.

"Wow, I didn't realize we ate that much," I remarked.

Asuma sighed before speaking, clearing his throat, "I guess I did say the meal was on me,"

"Here, let me pitch in," I said, pulling my wallet from my pouch. I gave him money, but he tried to deny it, claiming it was fine. I didn't let him win that fight, so I made it clear that I was helping him.

"Thank you for the meal, Asuma. I'll see you around," I said, standing up from my seat.

"Hold on for a minute," Asuma said, stopping me.

"Are you okay? I know talking about 'him' wasn't easy for you," He asked, giving me a look of pity.

I nodded, inhaling sharply before speaking. "Yeah, I'm fine. He was a big part of my life, so it's hard not to talk about him."

"Okay, well, just take it easy, alright?" Asuma replied, standing up and giving me a side hug. "See you."

After exiting the restaurant, Asuma and I parted ways, and I returned home to take a nap and catch up on sleep.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just to clear up, I know Itachi didn't kill Shisui. Kasumi believes that for this story.  I also don't remember how their test went, so forgive me if it's inaccurate. I tried lol
