a/n: char made a comment about jason's death making a good true crime podcast and i have no impulse control. also i am not proofreading this shit sorry.
Fact #1. Jason Lee Anson was born on May 6th, 2000.
Fact #2. Jason Lee Anson died on August 3rd, 2021, after being shot in the chest in his apartment.
Fact #3. Jason's murder is still unsolved.
Of course, there are more than just facts to every story.
Jason arrived in Felicity Valley when he was eighteen. His sister, Samantha, was fifteen. She didn't talk a lot when she first arrived, and he seemed pretty desperate to get a job. They had about $20 between them when they first arrived, and they were found sleeping in church pews, so everyone knew that wherever they came from must've been... bad, to say the least. But, this was Felicity Valley. "Ask no questions and I'll you tell no lies" was the town's unofficial motto. Everyone had their secrets, their skeletons in the closet. So it just didn't seem worth it to pry and try to find out what the Ansons' were. Plus, who actually wants to see a skeleton?
Jason quickly made a name for himself in the community. Everyone respected him, he was a young man with a great work ethic who was doing everything he could to provide for his little sister, even if everyone thought she was a bit weird. No one there knew the lengths he had gone to in order to protect Samantha, and they didn't need to. They asked no questions, and the Ansons' told no lies.
It's not like Samantha was telling anyone anything those days. She just sat there, the constant anxiety evident on her face. She only talked to Jason, and only when they were alone. At that time, they were sleeping in the house of a woman that found them in the church that morning. She was nice, but anything she asked Samantha was answered with a nod or a shake of the head.
Of course, eventually, Samantha started talking and making friends, and Jason quickly started to earn the trust of most of the citizens of Felicity Valley.
By the time he turned 21, Hector Delaney gave him a pretty big discount at the Delaney Liquor Store. Hector always liked giving discounts. "You're a good man, Jason. You work hard, you provide for your family, and you deserve this. Call it a birthday discount." Jason took a moment to wonder how a man like Hector ended up raising a man like Brendan, and then took a moment to wonder how people like his parents, ended up raising kids like Samantha and him. Maybe God makes mistakes, and gives the wrong kids to the wrong parents.
Jason's life was going perfectly fine. Comparing his childhood to now, it was a pretty epic transformation. He'd saved, and had an apartment with Samantha. She was just turning eighteen, and about to graduate high school, hopefully going to college. He was proud of her, and he knew that no one else would ever really understand how amazing it was for kids like them to be able to become adults like them.
Of course, when things end, they do pretty abruptly.
Jason was found dead on the bathroom floor by his sister. He had a bullet wound in his chest. The police said it was 'shoot-to-kill'.
Someone who knew how to use a gun. Someone who knew how to hide.
Someone that wanted Jason Anson dead.
Samantha knew.
You can never run from the past.
You can never escape your secrets.
