My Name Is Alexis

Hi, my name is Alexis, I'm 20 years old and I'm originally from Ontario Canada. Both of my parents are Japanese but, they immigrated to Canada before Mum found out she was pregnant with me. Despite being both Japanese and Canadian, I loved living in Ontario and all my best friends were there too. I was a part of a band, we got a lot of gigs and we used to perform back in our old school before we graduated two years ago.

The band was known as The Pheonix and the band members were, John the lead guitarist, Lizzy the drummer, Jessie the bass player and there was me, the lead singer and rhythmic and acoustic guitarist.

However, my perfect life was about to come crashing down when I learnt the news that we were moving back to Kyoto, my parents' original hometown and to top it off, something unexpected was about to happen to me the moment I moved back to Japan.

Three months earlier...

ALEXIS'S POV

Tonight was our big night and I was excited to sing again. I stood in front of the microphone and I said to our bandmates.

"Ready?"

"Always!"

Lizzy said with a grin on her face. Once the curtain rose we played our introduction to one of our songs.

"Hey, guys! we're the Phoenixes and we're gonna rock the house down!!"

The crowd cheered for us and then we began to play.

In my hand is the gun I hold and I am locked and loaded
Coming for you
I'm heading out running as fast as I can

And even now I see that you're shaking too

(Tick tock I hear a tick-tock start)
It screams hurry or else to my racing heart
(Tick tock I hear a tick-tock start)
And it keeps going and going no end in sight

Trapped in a room that has never been warm
I stretch out my hand frozen cold to the core
My path has been blocked like I'm locked up to die
Can no-one hear me from the outside

(Tick tock I hear a tick-tock start)
And when it stops we will meet the start of the end
(Tick tock I hear a tick-tock start)
It's all been leading to this

I'm frozen no words to speak
All I can do is laugh to cope with the grief
I'm frozen no words to speak
All I can do is cry, the joy breaking me

Trapped in a room that has never been warm
I stretch out my hand frozen cold to the core
My path has been blocked like I'm locked up to die
Can no-one hear me from the outside

(Tick tock tick tock start)
These days full of deceiving lies
(Tick tock tick tock start)
The world keeps leaving me behind
(Tick tock I hear a tick-tock start)
The sound alone is haunting me
(Tick tock I hear a tick-tock start)
It's all been leading to this

I'm frozen no words to speak
There's not a sound within this cold empty room
I'm frozen no words to speak
But someone breaks the door to my disbelief
I'm frozen no words to speak
There's not a sound within this cold empty room
I'm frozen no words to speak
But there is nothing I fear
No, not anymore

Once again I take aim at the end
And I fire breaking down every door standing in my way
Stray bullets fly, the gun recoils
As I cut my way through the me of yesterday
I'll let the darkness live on inside me
But I'll say goodnight to the past as I walk away
Soon under the stars, we will meet again

~Outro~

Once we finished our song, we took a bow and then I thanked the audience before we left the stage. Once our little concert was over, we headed to our favourite bar for a celebration dinner.

"Here's to another successful night!" John said as he raised his tankard of beer.

"Cheers!"

We all shouted as we toasted to another successful gig. Lizzy, the drummer, gulped down her beer and she sighed happily.

"Wow! tonight was awesome!! hey, bartender more beer!"

"Hey! take it easy on the drinks, you've got your graduation in the morning," John told Lizzy.

Lizzy is the youngest out of the band members, she joined us after I graduated at the age of 18 and yes, she became a bit of a heavy drinker after hanging out with us for a while. John was the oldest and he was the lead singer until I came along so, he makes sure that we don't get drunk during our celebration dinners.

"I won't get drunk besides, I'm not gonna be a highschool girl for much longer."

"True but, that doesn't mean you can drink yourself stupid."

"Whatever!"

I shook my head at her and then Jessie spoke up.

"However, this night was successful thanks to our beautiful Alexis here."

"Oh come on, I can't take all the credit," I spoke with a grin on my face.

"Nonsense, without you the band wouldn't have made it this far."

John chuckled before speaking up.

"Jessie is right though, you're like an angel in our eyes and our fans' eyes as well."

"Since you put it like that, I might take the credit."

I said with a smile on my face before gulping down my bottle of cider. After our celebration dinner, Lizzy had drunk so much that she literally collapsed onto the ground.

"Hehehe~ you guys are the best~ especially you~ Alexis~" Lizzy spoke in her drunken state.

I giggled at her and then John shook his head and he sighed. Jessie chuckled and then he spoke up.

"Let's just leave her there."

"Let's not!" John scolded Jessie before helping her onto her feet.

"I'll go and take Lizzy back home, Jessie do you mind taking Alexis home? she's had a bit too much herself."

"I'm fine, sure I can't walk in a straight line right now but, I can make it back safely."

"No excuse! Jessie, make sure she gets back."

"Yes, sir!" Jessie sarcastically spoke while saluting him.

Jessie walked me home and then we went our separate ways. I struggled to walk through the door since I was feeling a bit wobbly due to the alcohol in my system. Sora, my pet Husky dog, came running over to me and then he started barking before leaping onto his hind legs and jumping up on me.

"Hey Sora, have you been a good boy?"

"*Woof!*"

Sora replied as I petted his head before he got off of me. Mom came into the front door and she said to me.

"Alexis, where have you been and why are you drunk?"

"Gomen, Okaa-san, I would have called to let you know I was late but, my phone ran out of battery and I had a celebration dinner with the band and we may have had too many drinks."

"I see, well, next time call us and keep your phone charged."

"Hai, I'm going to my room, it's been a very long night."

I said as I headed upstairs to my room. Once I got there, I put away my rhythmic guitar back on the stand and I got ready for bed. Before I got to bed, I heard mum and dad talking. I knew it was bad to eavesdrop but, I wanted to know what was going on. I stood at the top of the stairs and I listened to their conversation.

"Did you tell her?"

"I was going to but, she came back a bit drunk and she just got back from a gig, I couldn't spoil that for her tonight, let's tell her in the morning before she leaves for work."

"All right, it's probably for the best we leave it tomorrow."

I was surprised and curious about what the planned to tell me but, it's best I waited in the morning and find out what's going on. However, when I learnt what my parents were talking about, it was gonna change my whole life forever.
