The Separated Twins

YUI'S POV

After telling Mai that Sakura gave us her tickets for Kyoto and the hotel that she booked, she was over the moon and now, we were in Kyoto checking out the sights and the shops. Mai held up her small bear, Bearsace, and then she took a picture of it. We got to another temple and then Mai took a selfie of us together.

"Oh man, this is the best."

"Isn't it?" I spoke with a smile.

We then got to the shops, I bought some sugar candy and Mai bought a traveller's guide which contains information about the warlords of the Sengoku. Mai read through the magazine and she was telling me who they were.

"Here's one about Oda Nobunaga."

"The Devil King of the Sixth Heaven, a very famous warlord indeed."

I spoke with a smirk and then Mai suggested something.

"Hey, how about we go and visit Honno-Ji temple before we head back to the hotel?"

"Sounds good to me, let's go."

I said as I took off running.

"Hey! whatever happened to ready, set, go?!" Mai shouted at me before chasing after me.

We got to the temple and I decided to play a little trick on Mai since I was ahead of her. I hid behind some bushes and then I spotted Mai. She looked around for me and then I snuck up behind her and I scared her.

"SURPRISE!!!"

"Ahhh!!" Mai screamed in fear and then she jumped away from me.

I burst out laughing after I did this and then Mai glared at me angrily.

"Yui! don't do that!!"

"Hahahahaha!! gomen, Mai, I couldn't resist."

I managed to calm down afterwards and then Mai said to me.

"Don't scare me like that again, you almost gave me a heart attack."

"Gomen, this place looks creepy at night and I couldn't miss that opportunity to scare you."

"Well don't do it again."

Mai scolded me before walking towards the temple. We looked around and I was right, it does look creepy at night. Mai looked at the stone monument that was built after Nobunaga's death.

"That's the stone monument? I was expecting it to be a bit bigger, considering the fact he was a big shot back in the day."

"That's true."

Mai said as she looked at the stone monument. Just then, we spotted a man wearing a lab coat and then Mai whispered to me.

"Who is that? do you think he's a med student?"

"I think so," I replied to her.

Suddenly, I felt a raindrop land on the bridge of my nose and when I looked up, the rain got heavier. Mai quickly got her umbrella out and she held it over the both of us and I frowned angrily.

"Oh man, I thought the weather was supposed to be dry for the next few weeks."

"That's what I thought to..." Mai said before she looked at the med student.

"Excuse me, do you have an umbrella?"

"No, it's back at my hotel."

The moment I looked at the man's eyes, a bolt of lightning suddenly touched down in front of us, shattering the stone monument.

'Holy crap!! that didn't look natural at all!'

"Be careful, you two-"

"Huh?"

The young man offered me a hand but it appeared to bend and warp into the darkness, eventually disappearing.

MAI'S POV

I felt dizzy and instinctively squeezed my eyes shut. Once the dizziness passed. I opened my eyes, only for them to be quickly obscured with streams of billowing hot smoke.

'Wait! what?! it was raining! I was outside! how did I get in here?!'

I quickly covered my mouth and nose after realising this place was on fire.

'This place is on fire?! I better get the hell outta here! where's Yui and the man in the lab coat?!'

I looked around to find them but, they were nowhere to be seen until I saw a man dressed in a suit of Japanese armour asleep on the floor. I saw another man, holding some kind of walking stick and he approached the sleeping man.

'Wait! that's not a walking stick! that's a sword!'

Sparks of the flaming paper walls illuminated the sharp edge of the raised metal blade. I rushed over to the sleeping man and I tried to wake him up while keeping an eye out for that man who was trying to kill this one. I knelt beside the unconscious man and I patted his face and I shook his a few times.

"Hey wake up!"

"...Ugh, who are you?" The man asked me as he woke up.

"No time for introductions!"

I grabbed the man's hand without thinking and then we ran through the fire. We managed to escape from the burning building and I was exhausted from running and inhaling too much smoke. I knelt on the ground while coughing and then the man who I rescued spoke up.

"Someone tried to do away with me while I slept? Audacious, but foolish. Killing my guards and getting that close to me is another matter."

I stood up from the ground after getting my breath back and then the man said to me.

"You may be some girl the monks snuck in for amusement, but I owe you my thanks."

"Really? I must have missed all the amused monks in the massive fire we just escaped, I don't even know how I got in there."

I looked back at the man and I can tell he was supposed to be someone important and his eyes were proud and brutal.

"What are you staring at? Surely you know who I am."

"No, I don't."

"You saved me without knowing who I am? Not expecting reward or favour? So be it. I shall tell you my name. I am the man who will rule all under the sun, I am the Lord of Azuchi Castle and Daimyo of Owari, Nobunaga Oda."

"Nobunaga...Oda?"

I asked in a confused tone until it hit me. I remembered about the temple where he was supposed to die in and to correct my suspicions, I looked at the signpost and it said Honno-Ji temple.

"Oh, you've gotta be kidding..."

I mumbled as I remembered what the magazine said about the devil king committing suicide after Mitsuhide Akechi betrayed him in 1582. I knew that I wasn't dreaming since those flames from that temple proved it but, just to make sure I wasn't dreaming I looked Nobunaga.

"OK, this might be a stupid question but, what year is this?"

"1582."

I was shocked by this and I thought to myself.

'Seriously?! was I sent back in time to the night when Nobunaga died?!

I shouted in my head and then Nobunaga spoke up.

"Why are you shocked by this? I've given my name. It's your turn."

Nobunaga took a full step forward and he took my chin his hand, forcing me to meet his eyes.

"Give me your name."

"Mai...Mizusaki Mai..."

"Mizusaki Mai, then? that name suits you."

"Thanks...I think, now let go of me!!"

I smacked his hand off my chin and put some distance between us.

'I need to find Yui and figure out what's going on here!'

MEANWHILE...

YUI'S POV

I slowly opened my eyes as I regained consciousness and I heard someone calling out to me.

"Miss...Miss...wake up."

Once I opened my eyes, I saw a tall, broad-shouldered man and he held me in his arms.

"Are you all right?"

"I...I think so..." I said as I looked around and then he puts me back down on the ground.

I noticed that my hair and clothes felt damp and I asked him.

"Hang on, why am I wet? what happened?"

"You don't remember? Yuki and I found you at a nearby river, you were lucky enough to survive if it hadn't been for Uesugi's ninja."

"I see, I better remind myself to thank him when I see him, by the way, who are you and have you seen my sister, Mai?"

"No, we haven't seen a woman named Mai, but I must say..."

The mysterious man circled around me with a smirk on his face.

"I've never seen a pretty woman like you around before."

"Quit with the flirting and get serious already."

The man looked at me surprised and then he smirked at me again.

"*Chuckle* well that's a first, I never thought I'd take a stab to the heart by a woman's harsh words before."

I frowned at him and then he introduced himself.

"Anyway, allow me to introduce myself, I am Takeda Shingen."

I was surprised when I heard that name.

'Takeda Shingen?! as in the Tiger of Kai?! ...I better watch myself around this guy, he's a big flirt.'

"Why do you look so surprised? do my looks shock that much?"

"Yeah right, now if you'll excuse me, I gotta go and find my sister."

I said as I was about to leave until Shingen grabbed my wrist.

"Hold it! I'm not letting you leave that easily."

"And why's that?"

"Well, firstly, you'll need a change of clothes and secondly-"

"Achoo!!" I sneezed so suddenly.

"You need to dry yourself off."

I frowned a little when he said this but then again, if my memory is right, Shingen despises Nobunaga so maybe I can stick around with him for a while until I find my sister.

"I see your point, fine, I'll stick around with you for a while but, that doesn't mean you can win me over, it means I haven't got a clue where I am or how I got here in the first place and I need to find Mai."

"Fair enough."

Shingen said to me before placing his haori over my shoulders to keep me warm. I blushed a little and I mumbled.

"Arigato..."

"You're welcome, come on, let's go," Shingen said as he offered his hand but, I walked past him.

We got to a nearby inn and then we got to one of the rooms.

"You sure you don't mind me being here?" I asked Shingen before taking a seat on the floor while clutching his haori that's over my shoulders.

"Not at all, I'll be right back, don't go anywhere."

Shingen told me before handing me a towel and leaving the room for a moment. After I dried off my hair, he came back a few seconds later with a kimono in his arms.

"Here you go, change into this."

I took the kimono from him and it looked beautiful. It was a beautiful white kimono with a blue seamless floral pattern.

"Arigato," I said before going behind the folding screen for privacy.

While I got changed, Shingen asked me.

"You still haven't told me your name, young lady."

"My name is Mizusaki Yui."

"Yui huh? that's a cute name."

"Thanks...I think."

I mumbled before tightening the sash around my waist. Just then, I heard the door sliding opening and then I heard another voice in the room.

"Shingen, what's going on here? I thought I heard another voice in here," A mysterious voice spoke up.

"You did Kenshin."

I managed to finish changing into my kimono in time before stepping aside from the folding screen. I saw a man with platinum hair, mismatched eyes, pale skin and he wore a light blue kimono, a dark blue hakama and he wore a black cape with fur on it.

"Who are you?"

"Forgive me, Shingen brought me here."

Kenshin glared at Shingen and then he explained to him.

"It's not what you think, I found this poor girl in the river. I don't know how she got there but, she was lucky that I saved her in time and besides, I couldn't exactly leave her there to freeze to death."

"Is that so? how do we know that she's not working for the Oda? I just received word from Sasuke about the Devil King, he somehow managed to survive the burning Honno-Ji temple

'The Devil King? he must be talking about Oda Nobunaga.'

I thought to myself before Shingen frowned angrily.

"I see, Oda Nobunaga really must have the luck of the devil."

"Um, do you guys know how he survived Honno-Ji?"

"We don't know, but, I have also heard from Sasuke that a mysterious woman had appeared."

'A mysterious woman? he must be talking about Mai!'

My eyes widen in shock when I realised this and then Shingen asked me.

"Is something wrong?"

"I think I know who this mysterious woman is, it's probably my sister, Mai."

"Oh really? how do you know it's her?" Kenshin asked me in a suspicious tone.

"Lucky guess, I suppose," I said with a sweat drop running down the side of my head.

'Note to self, don't make the God of War mad.'

I thought to myself after seeing that glare in his eyes. Shingen stood up from the floor and he stood in front of me protectively.

"There's no need to be harsh with her, Kenshin, I know you hate women but, be nice to the poor girl."

Kenshin clicked his tongue in annoyance before turning his back towards us.

"This is ridiculous, I'm going for a drink."

I sighed in relief after he left and I told Shingen.

"I have heard that he's known as the God of War but, I didn't realise that he was THIS cold-hearted."

"*Chuckle* don't worry, you'll get used to it, anyway, you better get some rest while you can because we'll be going to Azuchi tomorrow to infiltrate Nobunaga's territory."

"I understand, but, who is this Sasuke person that Kenshin spoke of?"

Right on cue, there was a knock on the ceiling and then Shingen spoke up.

"You can come down now, Sasuke."

I looked up and then a ninja appeared from the ceiling. I was surprised by this and how I didn't notice him hiding there since I usually notice these things. The ninja called Sasuke landed on the floor softly and then he said to Shingen.

"I'm glad to see you're all right Shingen, you disappeared so suddenly."

"Apologises, I got a little...distracted."

Shingen said as he glanced at me. I took a closer look at the ninja and he seemed strangely familiar to me. Sasuke looked at me and he was surprised when noticed me.

"Wait, why are you-"

"Is something wrong Sasuke? do you know this woman?"

"I do, Shingen do you mind if I borrowed her for a moment? There's something I need to discuss with her."

"OK but, don't hog her to yourself, I want to know Yui as well."

"In your dreams, Romeo."

I spoke bluntly before following after Sasuke. We walked a distance away from the Inn and we were now in a forest, away from earshot. I looked at Sasuke and I said to him.

"I thought you looked strangely familiar, so, you're that student from the temple, aren't you?"

"You're very observant, yes I am," Sasuke said as he pulled down his mask.

"Then do you mind telling me why you're a ninja?"

"It's easier if I start from the beginning. My name is Sasuke Sarutobi and just like you, I come from the present or rather, the future."

Sasuke slowly began to explain what had happened since our encounter at the stone monument. After a long explanation, I was surprised and shocked when Sasuke told me what happened at the stone monument.

'That explanation made my head spin.'

I said as I rubbed my head while resting my back against a tree.

"So let me get this straight, that lightning strike caused spacetime to wrap around us and sent us into the past?"

"Yes. That is a very simplified and condensed version of my current theory. We entered the wormhole at the same time. However, I arrived four years before you. In that time, I've realised something, this is not the Sengoku period we're familiar with. We're in an alternate timeline. In my time travel, I arrived at the place where Uesugi Kenshin collapsed. I saved his life with my knowledge of modern medicine. If this were our timeline, Uesugi Kenshin should be dead by now."

I was surprised by this and then Sasuke continued with his explanation.

"In the same way, the warlord Takeda Shingen, who is supposed to be dead by now, is also still alive. I predicted that you would do a time travel, as well, and searched for you and your sister but, I never imagined you two would only arrive four years after me."

"So, this isn't a dream."

"Nope, luckily not. I suppose you could say that seeing the famous warlords of the Sengoku with my own eyes is a dream come true for me."

Sasuke said with a smirk and I sweatdropped a little.

"You're strangely chipper about this, but, you didn't answer my question, why are you a ninja? did you learn that while living here for four years."

"My parents were big history buffs so I got my name from the legendary ninja that served Yukimura Sanda. Because he's fictional, I've taken his 'place' in this time. I figured that will keep my impact on history low."

"And what about my sister, Mai? is she all right? have you seen her?"

"I've spoken to her, she's fine, but, before I could bring her back with me Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Date Masamune showed up, they've taken her back to Azuchi castle with them."

"I see, that puts my mind at ease for now, but, what I should I do?"

"It's best if you stuck with us for a little while until we get to Azuchi."

"And when I do, I'm gonna find my sister and if I find out that Oda Nobunaga has laid a hand on her, hmpf, he's got me to answer to."

I said before cracking my knuckles which made Sasuke flinch in fear.

"Remind me not to get on your bad side, but, what's surprising to me, is how you and Mai look exactly the same."

"We're identical twins, of course, that's why you were shocked when you first saw me."

"That explains it, anyway, shall we head back to the Inn?"

"Yeah, let's go."

I said as we headed back to the Inn. On the way back, I glanced at the night sky and I thought to myself.

'Mai, hang in there.'
