May We Meet Again... In A Different Reality
This one-shot is based on a YouTube playlist with the exact same name as the title. All credit goes to Martine Malfoy, for making this playlist.
If you weren't able to tell by the title, this will be an angst one-shot. Unfortunately, it is quite a short one, so please forgive me. And warning, by short, I mean VERY short. 600+ words at best. My greatest apologies.
As always, happy reading!~

A simple barrier divided between their worlds. Archanea. Tellius. The prince pressed his palm against the invisible wall, to which Ike had mirrored. With a distressed sigh, the mercenary glanced down at the man standing before him. There was no chance he could touch him. Not like he used to...
"I'm sorry." The only words he could muster up enough courage to speak.
Marth, whose face was struggling to maintain composure, broke into tears. "What did we do wrong?" His voice echoed throughout Ike's mind. What truly happened? Where, in their entire adventure, did they make a mistake? Why had it all come down to this...?
They shared a painful, loving gaze as tears rolled down Ike's cheeks. Their rightful countries were just behind them, all they had to do was turn around and they'd finally be back home. But... they've already found it. With each other. The only home they could come running back to. Warm, welcoming, loving...
The mercenary pounded his fists against the impenetrable wall. His teeth bared, showing no mercy, "Why? Why now?!" Ike's head shot upwards, staring up at the night sky of his country, catching a glimpse of the daylight on the other side of the barrier. "Why couldn't we... I don't get it."
Marth wearily gazed at his beloved, pressing his forehead against the wall. He exhaled shakily, eyes gazing up to meet Ike's. "My dear..." A staggering breath escaped his lips, "Is there any way we can fix this...?" His desperate eyes wouldn't dare to leave Ike's own. The eyes he always adored looking into. A warm gaze that would make his heart flutter.
Defeated, Ike shook his head shamefully, "We can't. There's no chance of...breaking this barrier..." The two had scanned the scenery surrounding each of them. Everything was familiar, they truly were returned to their home countries. Yet, they were given one final moment to say goodbye. If they dared to step away from the wall and into their countries, all their memories — wiped away in a flash. Everything they've done will be all for naught.
Is it worth the pain? The hurt of saying one final goodbye, only for the memory to be lost forever. Can all that progress, effort... be salvaged somehow? Surely there's some way to maintain their memories, even if their beloved cannot be seen from then on. Right?
Without speaking a word, the two had agreed. One... last... goodbye.
Marth pressed his hand against the barrier, a weak smile exchanging between him and Ike as their palms were pressed together. A soft breath, a sad chuckle.
"May we meet again, Ike... "
"...In a different reality, Marth."
They shared one last, thoughtful, endearing gaze, before releasing their hands from the barrier. Without a trace, the wall was gone. Their country had filled the empty space, leaving no trace of the opposing world. After a few blinks, however, they wondered, "What am I staring at?" To their shock, some sort of odd object was lying on the grass before them.
A black headband.
A golden circlet.
Curiosity washed over them as they gently picked up the item, examining carefully. Nothing they've ever seen before on any of their allies. Who did it belong to?
If only they knew.

Once again, sorry for the short one-shot (╥_╥)
