iii. not goodbye
Before leaving, Cassandra had one final person to speak with. Neville Longbottom, the boy who remained her friend throughout everything in her life. He became her best and only friend, and she watched him grow as the years passed.
Who once was a cowardly boy was now a strong one. He stood up for her and his fellow students; he was becoming a protector to anyone who needed protection.
She couldn't leave without saying goodbye.
"If you run away during seventh year, you'll be safer," she told him urgently. "The end is coming, and Hogwarts will be dangerous. The darkest time in history is on its way here."
"If dark times are indeed on their way, someone needs to stick around and fight for peace," Neville told her. "I am not abandoning Hogwarts."
"Promise me you'll be careful," she said, gripping his wrists. "Keep this school safe."
"I want you to promise me the same," he said. "I don't know what awaits you out there, but I'm sure it won't be easy."
"I expect not," she said. "I guess this is goodbye."
Neville shook his head. "Not 'goodbye,'" he told her. "Just, 'see you later.'"
She smiled. "I guess I'll see you later, Neville Longbottom."
"And I'll see you later, Cassandra Trelawney," he replied. He wrapped her in a hug, and she melted into his arms.
