Amethyst

Forgotten royalty swirls into the well

of times past, of times erased, of times

lost in the currents of the wind through leaves

gusting amongst the autumn lawns

Shocks of silver and gold shatter

at the drop of a tiara of dull gems, cracking

grazing the cover of an old Bible, resting

upon the table, sinking into the shadows

Purple shadows, purple sunsets, purple bruises

They all melt into a single crystal of amethyst

Crystalline butterfly wings ephemerally locked

into the gaze of the prominent points

Reaching to strike the sky with potions of

purple, purple, purple

I tilt the rock with a fingertip and watch

the light within burn
