Birthday Bash Pt. 1

Edison's POV

Walking down the hall on the day of the big birthday bash and Quidditch victory party, I got a lot of attention. Everyone telling me Happy Birthdays and giving me small gifts but I only have one goal in mind.

To actually see who this Sirius Black is whose going to the party with my sister. There are lots of rumours surrounding him regarding his conquests and sexual habits. In other words, not suitable for my sister in any way.

"Oy, Jamie is it?" I see the messy haired, spectacle wearing guy who also hangs around my sister. He stops mid-scruffin his hair and looks at me, his eyes round. Looking around him he asks, "Me?"

"Yes, of course you twat. You're friends with my sister, aren't you?" I ask impatiently.

"Er, yes. It's James. James Potter." He says, extending his hand.

"I don't have time for formalities. Where's Sirius Black and why is he taking my sister to the party tonight?" I say my foot tapping impatiently.

"Oh. Well he's in the dining hall early, for uh, lunch or something." He says, scratching the back of his neck.

"Lunch isn't for another half hour." I say and brush past him, toward the dining hall. I feel James trying to grab my arm and stop me from going in but I quickly shake it off.

"So the rumours are true." I say, stopping and crossing my arms.

"What are you doi..." I spin around and see Liberty behind me, frozen in place upon the sight of Sirius with his face glued to Emmeline Vance.

Libby's POV

I'm not sure how to describe what I feel but the closest thing I can think of, is getting punched in the gut. I'm not sure why the sight of Sirius playing tonsil hockey with some other girl effects me so much. It must just be that he's my date tonight and even though it's not a date date. he could still have the decency to not snog someone else the day of.

I clear my throat and shake myself from my thoughts. "What, what are you doing here Edison? Looking for me? Well, here I am." I say, grabbing his arm and dragging him out.

Sirius's POV

shit.

The only word that runs through my head when I realize that Libby and her brother have walked in on me snogging Emmeline Vance. It wasn't supposed to happen. I didn't plan on snogging anyone today, let alone Emmeline Vance, my ex.

But it did.

We were just talking when she brought me into the empty Great Hall and all of a sudden her lips are glued on mine. Thinking of Liberty, I want to stop and tried to pull back but another part of me wanted to keep snogging her, still thinking of Libby.

I pull back and start to walk over to Libby and Edison when I hear them.

"Why the hell are you going as his date tonight exactly?" Edison asks her fervently.

She shrugs and says, "Look, I kind of forced him into going with me so don't get all mad at him." She says smoothly.

"Oh. Is this true?" Edison spins around and asks me.

I blink a few times and then nod. "Yeah, she was pretty desperate and she's got some juicy tea on me." I add, winking for extra measure.

He scowls at me and then nods and walks off.

"Hey, uh Libby. Thanks for that. I didn't mean for you to..."

"Don't thank me Sirius. Just don't tell my brother the truth that you you decided to snog some girl on the day of our date and you might live." Before stalking off, her face flushed with anger.

She stops before exiting the Great Hall and says coldly, "I'm not desperate, let's make that clear." Before stalking away and out of sight.

...

Quidditch Match

"GO HUFFLEPUFF!" The students from the yellow stand scream.

"GO RAVENCLAW!!" I hear the blue stand scream even louder, James and Remus included.

"Hey Sirius, want to go find somewhere, er, more private." Emmeline Vance tells me, swirling a piece of her hair around her finger, smiling shyly. I smirk and am about to flirt back when when I catch Libby's eye, she's staring intently, her mouth in a puckered line as though she had tasted something bad. She immediately shakes my gaze and proceeds to finish watching the match. Her hands are gripped into tight fists and I can see what I can only describe as pain in her eyes.

"Umm, not today. I can assure you that what we did today will not happen again. I have, er, another girl." I say, trying my best to convince her to that my heart is taken by someone else, rather than tell her that I simply don't want to hurt one of my closest friends.

Of course. What other reason would I have?

James's POV

I watch Libby look at Sirius flirt with Emmeline and her hands clench into fists. She takes her gaze from Sirius and focuses on the match.

"Hey Libby, do you want some pumpkin juice? Come and get some with me?" I ask her, motioning towards the food stands. She blinks a few times and nods. We stand up and walk together.

"Soo, are you right excited for the party tonight Libs?" I ask her, running a hand through my hair and ruffling my hairs.

Libby's POV

"I 'spose." I respond quietly.

In all honesty, I was dreading this party more than almost anything I ever have. For one, this was my brother's last day here at Hogwarts and his last day as a simple student and the start of his time raising our sister. And of course, it's a party. I simply hate parties. All the suffocating make-up, exposing dresses, drunken words and actions.

This one especially. Sirius had been trying to talk to me all day but I'd always made excuses as to why I wasn't available to simply chat with him. I didn't want to go as his date tonight, for many reasons, building up by the minute.

I was only doing this to spite Marlene yet I don't understand the odd, almost painful feeling in my chest that only comes out when I see Sirius with Emmeline Vance. Every other student seems to think that I'm a desperate ex of Sirius's, as everyone knows that I am perfectly aware of their little fling or whatever they call it, and thinks that I refuse to acknowledge he's cheating on me because I'm simply so desperate to be with him.

Complete and utter rubbish of course.

"Libby?" I shake my thoughts from my head and see James trying to talk to me. "Huh? Sorry, I didn't catch what you were saying." I tell him, blinking a few times.

"I was saying that if you happen to need a back-up date or whatnot, that there are plenty of people who would gladly go with you. I being one of them." James tells me, the Prewett brothers coming up to us and nodding in agreement.

"Oh. I'm perfectly fine, thank you." I respond.

Why was everyone making this into such a big deal? It didn't deserve this much attention from the student body, did it?

"Well, pumpkin juice or butterbeer?" I hear James ask me, his eyes scanning the menu from the little food stand outside the stadium.

'Um, a pumpkin juice please" I say, handing him a few sickles. He shakes his head and hands them back.

"I'm not a charity case, Potter." I tell James cooly. He turns and hands me mydrink, looking at me oddly.

"You think that's why I bought you a drink? Because I think you're a charity case?" He asks, almost genuinely astounded.

"Well, er, of course. why else would you?" I snap.

"Because you're my friend and that's what friends do. We look out for one another." He says, shrugging. The Prewett brothers nod in agreement and walk off after him.

Well, clearly I was messing up every relationship I've ever had today. Yay Libby.

Back in the stadium, Emmeline Vance was no where to be seen and Sirius kept shooting me sorrowful looks. I pretended I didn't see them.

"AND GRYFFINDOR FOR THE WIN!" I hear the announcer scream into the microphone. The entire stand erupts in screams and cheers of victory.

Amidst all my own drama, I'd totally forgotten that we were at a frigging Quidditch match. With all the hub bub of the Gryffindors going to congratulate Ravenclaw and console Hufflepuff, Sirius managed to snake his way through the crowd over to me. He grabbed my arm and said into my ear, "Let's go somewhere to talk. Please." He added, looking me earnestly in the face. Against my better judgement, I nod and follow him.

Once we're outside the stadium, Sirius pulls me over to a tree overlooking the lake.

"Look, Libby. I'm sorry, okay? I'm really sorry. I didn't plan on snogging Emmeline and for your brother to find out and believe me, whatever it was with Emmeline is over." He says, looking pained as he said it.

I shrink back. "Look, if it pains you so much then go to the damn party with Emmeline, it really doesn't matter to me." I say, slightly cooly. My walls, that I've long since has, rising higher and higher.

"Wh, you, you think that I looked pained because I, what miss Emmeline Vance?" He says, astonished. I look up, slightly affronted.

"Well, yeah. Why else would you looked so pained?" I respond with, my face now a scowl.

"Because, because I've been a dick to my best mate and it's eating me up inside that I've hurt you." He said, trying to grab my hands. I pull them back crossing them over my chest.

"You didn't hurt me, let's make that clear. I'm not jealous or anything of Emmeline Vance, I was just pissed that you didn't have the balls to say you wanted to go with her and tell me no. You don't need to coddle me Sirius." I say, quite coldly this time.

"I just, I, I'm sorry. I was just dealing with some really weird emotions and I camke about the whole situation wrongly." He said, running a hand through his hair.

"Okay." I say, pretending to examine my nails.

"Okay? That's all you have to say?" He says.

"What else do you want me to say?" I ask him, genuinely curious.

"Well I don't know, how about 'I accept your apology Sirius' or 'I'm glad we got this whole thing cleared up' or something." HE says, clearly agitated.

"We both know I don't do the whole mushy gushy feelings exchange, okay? And yeah, I accept your apology or whatever." I say, rather quietly I might add.

"Sorry, I didn't hear that. What was that?" Sirius says, cupping a hand around his ear. I scowl but let out a snicker.

"You heard me perfectly well Sirius." I say and then turn around to walk back to the castle.

"So, are we good?" Sirius calls out.

"We're good." I call back, still walking.

A small smile escapes my mouth and I frown, trying to cover it up.

Time to get ready for the party I suppose.
