twenty
"Are you sure you wanna do this?", Alex asked, helping Y/N pull on the blue coat like the gentleman he was.
Y/N had decided to join John down in South Carolina and help him with his fight against slavery. Of course, John and Alex had tried to talk her out of it, but in the end she won the argument, almost even stubborner than Alex can be.
"Yes, I am sure, Alex. How many times shall I repeat myself?", Y/N asked and grabbed her bag, throwing it over her shoulder and turning to look at her brother. The Schuyler sisters stood by the door, watching the twins.
Alex was hesitant. He didn't want to think of the possibilities that he could lose his sister, just after he had gotten her back. He was a little afraid to let her go, especially after all she has been through.
"I'll be back, I promise. John and I will be successful and then we'll return, okay?", Y/N said with a smile and laid her hand on Alex's shoulder, who in return wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly.
"You'll be back," Alex whispered "You promised this, so you have to."
Y/N hugged her brother just as tight and said "I will. I love you, Alex." "I love you too, Y/N. Now go, otherwise I'm gonna keep you here."
Y/N chuckled and let go of Alex, before she then headed to the door and said her goodbyes to the sisters. Peggy was a little clingy, but in the end she let go of Y/N after Angelica had pulled her off.
During that time, Alex had pulled John aside and quietly said "Keep an eye on her, for me, okay? I don't want to lose her already."
John nodded and replied "I'll give it my best."
And when Y/N was done with her goodbyes, the duo left the house, got into the carriage and off to South Carolina they went.
"John, no."
"John, yes," John shot back, stuffing a few important things in the small bag he'd hang on the saddle of his horse.
"John, this is stupid, I won't let you do this!", Y/N said and grabbed his arm, pulling him back. John turned and looked down at Y/N, determination filling his eyes "If I manage to succeed, we could get an advantage! I have to do this!"
Y/N laughed "You can't possibly go against over a hundred of British troops on your own, John, they are heading there to gather supplies! Do you think they'll go there with two or three people?"
"Y/N, I can manage this," John said, trying to pull away, but Y/N pulled him back "John, you can't. If it were two or three people I wouldn't mind. These are a hundred soldiers we are talking about though."
"Y/N, I will go there and that is final, and I will not let myself be stopped by you," John firmly said and pulled his arm out of her grasp.
"John, no, stop it, right now!", Y/N said and followed after him, as John headed to his horse. He grabbed onto the saddle and pulled himself up. Y/N grabbed the reigns of his horse to hold him back for maybe a little longer.
"Please don't do this John," Y/N quietly pleaded, worry etching her features and for a moment John hesitated, considering if he really should do this.
"I have to," John finally replied, just as quiet as Y/N, something like sympathy shining in his eyes. Y/N shook her head though and said "No, you don't. You can just stay here and wait for further commands of General Gist with me. It's as simple as that."
"You don't understand, if I get there now and destroy their resources and then come back, we're going to be at an advantage," John said, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips "We can win this battle."
"Are you really willing to risk your life like this?", Y/N asked and at Johns persistent nod she only sighed and muttered "If you don't come back alive or come back harmed, I will kill you."
John grinned at Y/N and laid a hand on her cheek, caressing her cheekbone with a soft motion of his thumb, before he pulled his hand back and said "I'm back soon, unharmed, don't you worry," and he rode off.
Y/N stood and watched him for a couple of seconds, before she cursed under her breath and went to grab her own horse, following him in the matter of not even a minute.
"John!", she called after him, pushing her horse into a sprint, catching up with the freckled soldier as he had stopped his horse. Y/N slowed her horse down and came to a stop beside John "If you do something stupid I won't let you take all the credit for yourself."
John laughed and grinned at her, before the two of them then continued their ways again towards where the British were to get their supplies.
"If I'm honest, I was waiting for you to join me," John stated, earning him a raised eyebrow from Y/N, to which he then added with a slight laugh "Your brother wouldn't even have tried to stop me and would have joined me without hesitation."
Y/N let out a laugh and nodded "I think I'll agree with you on that. I haven't known him for long now but I can still imagine this happening." John joined her laughter, before the two then slowly calmed down and got more serious, as they knew they had to start being careful, not knowing where British spies could be lurking.
"After the forest comes a small clearing, then more forest and a road leading to the town where they have their supplies," John told her quietly, both of them having a watchful eye on their surroundings.
Y/N nodded and they continued their way in silence, until, when they reached the clearing, a voice rang through to them right from the other side where the forest began once more.
"My darling Y/N, it has been a while since we've last seen each other, hasn't it?"
