thirty-one
"Look, Y/N, isn't she precious?", John asked softly, quietly bawling his eyes out as he held the small child in his arms.
He sat on the bed beside Y/N, holding their child into her direction so Y/N could take her from him. Y/N smiled weakly as she took the baby girl from John's arms, cradling her close to her chest.
"Our little Frances Eleanor," John whispered and kissed the top of Y/N's head, wrapping an arm around her to pull her close. He couldn't be happier now. All is good.
"Our little wonder," Y/N spoke up, tears also running down her face, but in delight. This was the first child she ever managed to give birth to, alive. All the others had been miscarriages. But she, little Frances Eleanor Hamilton-Laurens, was a small miracle.
"I love you so much. Both of you," John smiled brightly and nuzzled his face into the crook of Y/N's neck, his eyes still fixed on their daughter. "And I'm so proud of you," John whispered, talking of the fact that Y/N birthed a child alive.
It may sound ridiculous, to be proud of someone for not having a miscarriage, but in this moment they could care less. They couldn't be happier, now that they held their daughter in their arms and everything went well.
A knock sounded on the door and a voice asked "May we come in?"
John replied "Come in," and without a second to spare, the door opened and in came Alex, Hercules and Lafayette.
Hercules held a small bundle in his hands and rushed to be the first to see the baby. He cooed in adoration at the sight of Frances and then held out the small bundle he held. A blue onesie for the baby.
Y/N chuckled softly and said "Thank you, Herc. I'm sure she will love it."
Hercules grinned and laid the onesie aside, then asked "May I hold her?" Y/N nodded and carefully handed Frances over into Hercules' arms. He held the little girl carefully in his arms, and spoke to her in a baby voice "Hi there little one, I'm your uncle Herc. Aunt Laffy here and I will teach you a lot of nonsense."
Frances giggled, Lafayette let out a protesting cry and the rest of the people present joined in on the laughter.
"Why do I have to be the aunt?", Lafayette asked and glared at Hercules, who replied with a small laugh "Because you have the long hair for it. I don't." Lafayette frowned at Hercules, but then gasped in delight as Frances reached her tiny hands out to him, apparently wanting to change her carrier.
Hercules carefully handed Frances over to Lafayette.
John wrapped an arm around Y/N's waist and pulled her into him, so she leaned her back against his chest. Y/N smiled at the scenery in front of her, relaxing into John's touch as he drew small circles on her stomach with his fingers.
"I love you," John whispered into her ear, his gaze never leaving his small bundle of joy, as she now laid in Alex's hands.
"I love you, too," Y/N whispered back and closed her eyes, relaxing further until slumber caught up to her.
It's been two days since Y/N has given birth to Frances and she and John couldn't have been happier. But now that she had enough time to recover, she had something left to do, something she had to do, if she wanted to continue living a peaceful and happy life.
George William Frederick.
Y/N will make sure to rid the world of him. To make the world forget him sooner than he wanted to.
There were many ways this could go, Y/N thought to herself as she headed for the docks. She had said silent goodbyes to her lover and daughter, not being able to do this during the day, so an 'escape' in the middle of the night and a small piece of paper would do.
I could get there, kill him and end this madness. I could get there, kill him and leave that place alive and come back home to my family. I could get there, kill him and die. Either way, one of us will die.
"Miles," Y/N said in quiet acknowledgement as she boarded the ship. Miles grinned back at her and asked "You still wanna do this?"
Y/N went to her cabin and threw her bag into the corner, letting out a low sigh "I need to do this, you know that."
Miles is a sailor Y/N met months back. He knew of her plan from the beginning and volunteered to support her and help get her to Britain. He didn't want anything in return, only to have the king of Britain dead.
"Yeah, yeah, I know that. Still, don't cha have a daughter or some husband to return to?", Miles asked and watcher her with a raised brow. Y/N nodded to herself "A daughter and her father."
"Y'aren't married yet?" "Not even engaged." "Ah, makes it easier to leave, I guess?" "A little."
Miles nodded and then patted her shoulder, a gesture of wishing her good luck, even if they haven't even left the continent yet, and then left her to herself. And soon Y/N found herself moving on the ocean, towards Britain.
Towards death.
