"Inside my sadness that became my home, can I invite you in...?"
~Home-Tablo (feat. Lee Sora)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yoongi had walked with Jungkook to Seokjin and Namjoon's apartment to get cleaned up. Seokjin had a lot of choice words about how they were so dirty, and how they smelled and all that and hadn't bothered to ask why Jungkook was with Yoongi at all or what had happened.
It was weird now, seeing Jungkook walking the halls of the school, when before he'd barely noticed him, they now shared small--almost unnoticeable nods when they saw each other, in a way, squared with a certain amount of respect for each other. A very fine line of respect, but respect nonetheless.
"Goddamn it Yoongi, will you pay attention? Did you even hear what I said, or are you too wrapped up in la-la-land? Is this too hard for you to understand Yoongi-bear~?"
Yoongi rolled his eyes and looked at Jae-hwa like she was a squealing rat. Because she was a rat, he'd just been blind to it for a while, he'd just accepted it and worked for her like a dog. "What, Jae-hwa?" he said, cold and unfeeling.
"Might wanna check that attitude, Yoongi. I don't know what the hell is wrong with you, but you're off today." She said, turning and starting to walk down the hallway. " You're supposed to have your arm around my waist, Yoongi."
He put his arm around her waist, not because he wanted to, but because he wanted her to shut the fuck up.
That's really wishful thinking.
Already she was talking again. "It occurred to me, Saturday when you barged in, and you looked like such a heartbroken puppy--I wish you could have seen your face, it didn't fit your face at all--but anyways~," she smiled at him, "You know what I thought? Taehyung is weaker than you, he cares so much for everyone else, and you know who he cares about most?" Jae-hwa giggled. It wasn't cute, it wasn't anymore real than she was, but it was tinted with a dark shade of evil.
I won't like this....I don't want to be a part of this....whatever it is.
"You know the worthless bitch? Our resident ditz? Taehyung fell hard for her~, so we're going to make him look like a rapist and--."
Yoongi yanked his arm away from her waist and stopped walking. Lee Hana. By now, he'd seen her around, seen Jae-hwa trip her, seen Jae-hwa grab her by the hair and lead her around the halls like a dog on a leash, Jae-hwa tortured her for no reason at all except existing. "She's deaf."
Jae-hwa clapped her hands in slow, fake applause, "Thank you captain of dumb facts, who cares?"
Yoongi tilted his head, a step away from taking a swing at her, "I care. She's deaf, she can't even hear you coming before you hit her, she's never done anything to--."
Jae-hwa laughed, "You don't listen! This is because of Taehyung! If he would just go quietly back to the mental hospital, we wouldn't have to do this, it's his fault. But....I think sexual assault and a few odd fetishes will change that, don't you? And anyway, Hana is an eyesore anyway, she's fortunate anyone wants to take pictures of her half naked anyway." She grinned at him.
You sick bitch.
It was almost common knowledge Hana helped when she could at the school library, always dropped off her books on time, and was the worst part of any day.
Usually Yoongi didn't show up to school until lunch, which was great in the way he'd almost always miss when Jae-hwa would grab Hana and pick at her, and bully her, and push her and pull at her hair, and spill things on her uniform. Today, he'd have to see that. Except it would be worse. He knew it would be worse.
Jae-hwa came up to Hana, who was standing in front of a bookshelf, her eyes angled downward reading a book. Without warning--since she was entirely deaf--Jae-hwa grabbed Hana by the hair, yanking her backwards.
Hana screamed, her voice weak and hoarse from not being used, the scream was a squeaking sort of thing, mostly just expelled air without much sound, but every once in a while, a small squeak of sound came from her lips.
He closed his eyes and sighed. He couldn't meet her eyes.
"Come on little bitch, I've got a few pictures to take of your ugly ass." Jae-hwa said.
For a moment, Yoongi opened his eyes, catching sight of Jae-hwa dragging Hana away by her hair. Hana's dark eyes met Yoongi's for a moment, and she mouthed, "Help, please".
He bit his lip and turned away. I can't do anything. I know I can't. I'm sorry.
Jae-hwa dragged her out to the door leading outside, then let go of her hair and pushed Hana in front of her, Hana was crying when she fell to the ground in front of them, looking up at Jae-hwa with tears in her eyes, silently begging.
Jae-hwa either didn't acknowledge the plea, or just plain didn't care. "Up. Now. This isn't where we're having your photoshoot, bitch."
Yoongi knew this couldn't be good, it didn't take much to figure that out, but he did nothing, it ate at him like a virus, what he was letting happen, but he couldn't do anything. I could lose so much, not only would I have to go home, the police would arrest me, I've gone too far.
I've gone too far but this is further than far and I can't do anything.
Jae-hwa dragged Hana by the hair, her little helpless squeaks in pain not giving her a moment of pause as she dragged her out onto the campus. She only stopped by a tree, out of sight of the windows. Jae-hwa was an evil bitch, but she wasn't necessarily stupid.
"On your hands and knees." Jae-hwa demanded, throwing Hana against the tree and dropping a dog bowl at her feet.
Hana wasn't that much of a pushover lately, she had her own little fight back.
Maybe it was that Pumpkin head. He'd taught her defiance...
So Jae-hwa kicked her until she caved into that position, and Yoongi closed his eyes and Jae-hwa snapped pictures, probably sending them around the school under a ghost number, saying it was from Taehyung, 'showing off' his 'bitch'.
"Yoongi, Hold her down." Jae-hwa said, "What the hell are you closing your eyes for??"
He opened his eyes at that and sighed, "Why should I hold her down?" he asked, his voice flat.
Jae-hwa gave him a condescending look, "Awwww, is little Yoongi a baby now? Feeling sympathetic? awwww~ then I guess I'll have to do it myself."
Jae-hwa grabbed Hana's legs with her manicured nails, trying to hold her down, but of course, Hana had a fighting spirit in her these days, she fought back, she kicked, she made an attempt at screaming, weak little hardly used vocal chords only able to produce a squeak, like a trapped mouse's dying screams.
Then Jae-hwa screamed, "She bit me!" Which was followed with a handful of curses and her slapping Hana hard across the face. "Would you just hold her down?"
You deserve to be bitten, you evil bitch.
Jae-hwa turned to Yoongi, exasperated and looking disheveled by her own standards.
Yoongi looked at Hana, the poor girl begging with her eyes still for him to save her, to stop Jae-hwa, "...Don't feel like it..." He said when he looked back at Jae-hwa in answer to her query.
Jae-hwa didn't like defiance, from anyone, and the look in her eyes turned beastly, "What?! She's just some deaf girl!"
"I don't feel like it!"
Jae-hwa stood up, staring at him and squinting as if he was something small and insignificant like a bug. And to her, that was probably what all people looked like to her, so it wasn't that much of a surprise that after Yoongi said that, he was regarded as a pest.
He was pushing it dangerously close, but he couldn't let it go on without fighting. If Hana can fight....and she has consequences, then I can fight back too, at least a little..
Yoongi heard someone though, someone very close, probably watching, and decided to be extra bold in the case that someone would hear and be able to expose Jae-hwa for the blackmailing hoe she was.
"Yoongi, just hold her for three seconds so I can--"
He looked to the side, hoping to get a glimpse of whoever was watching so closely but not moving to stop Jae-hwa or him, "Babe, no, I'm not doing that, she's goddamn deaf, this is between you and her." No such luck, he couldn't see anyone or a sign of anyone else.
Jae-hwa screamed, and a untrained ear might have thought they'd heard a mating call of an exotic dinosaur, "UGH! You're useless! I can't believe you of all people feels sorry for her just because she's deaf!"
It wasn't because she was deaf though, that wasn't the only reason. maybe her voice was weak, but she was screaming? What had Hana done? This is rape Yoongi, you know it is. You're just standing there, are you no better?
Fucking fight back, Yoongi.
Who are you but your mother if you hear someone screaming and just stand by selfishly?
Are you the same as the neighbors who didn't help you when they heard you begging?
Yoongi felt the sting of a blow he had taken to his back, remembering the feeling of it, the things he saw at that moment in a flash--trying to get away, screaming, crying, Mama....
Yoongi awoke from his memory and squinted at Jae-hwa like the bug she was, "It's not that, that's just too much work over someone who hasn't done a goddamn thing to me."
Jae-hwa glared at him, looked at him almost like she didn't know who he was anymore. And truth be told, she had never known who he was, so that came as no surprise. Jae-hwa wouldn't be able to recognize a human being if it looked right at her.
"How the hell am I going to get a picture of her panties if you don't hold her down, Yoongi?" her voice was condescending, as if this was the most obvious thing and he was just too stupid to understand it, as if she was his mother, explaining it to him like a child.
At that moment though, he heard someone take a deep breath, not him, not Jae-hwa, not Hana--someone off behind him. You might have hope, Hana...
In the next moment, Jae-hwa took that knife, unable to hold Hana still, just took a random slash at her skirt, and he saw blood spatter from the upward movement of the knife for a brief moment. Hana screamed louder then she had since Jae-hwa had grabbed her for this, it was a scream almost out of a horror movie.
Hana scrambled back toward the tree behind her, whimpering and crying, trying to pull her now cut skirt over the bleeding gash in her thigh. And it was bleeding pretty damn bad.
Yoongi looked away, "I'm going to get something to eat, you can do whatever you want, I can't watch this." He said, only because he knew someone else was watching, and he might as well string Jae-hwa on for a little while longer until he could figure a way to not have the Police after him without her, "Call me after school."
Yoongi turned and started walking away, and too his surprise, he saw that Pumpkin-head sitting there, his eye closed tight, the expression on his face was a sort of anger, but also a helplessness. Next to him was that other kid, Park Jimin, who he'd beaten up previously, fought with verbally too. Hana's Protectors...
No matter how he looked at it, there was no way in hell he could say anything out loud to edge Taehyung to protect his girl, if what was happening to her wasn't enough and he was still sitting there scared, he needed a push but....Yoongi stared at him, as his eyes opened to stare right back, and Yoongi mouthed the words, 'Pumpkin-head' hoping to get him to act somehow.
But after he passed him by, he didn't look back. This was up to Taehyung now.
It didn't take long, soon he heard a shaky deep Daegu accented voice speak up, "J-Jae-hwa!"
Yoongi smiled to himself. That's it kid, defend what you care about... fight for it until you can't feel your hands, until your voice gives out.... "You don't get another chance, Tae, fight that bitch..." Yoongi said, going toward the school.
~~~
Yoongi sat quietly on a retaining wall by the road toward the school, eating Cheetos he'd bought from the school vending machine. He knew he could have just gone home with Jin and Namjoon, and Jin would make dinner, but right now just felt like a junk food kind of day.
So he kicked his dangling feet in the air, his legs looking thin and small as always.
Eventually school got out and kids started walking out, and he watched all of them come out of the school, some getting in the bus, some getting in parent's cars, some getting in their own cars, and others still simply walking home.
Yoongi watched them go by, kicking his feet absently and eating Cheetos, until he spotted a certain little boyish haircut, then he jumped down from the retaining wall--to the surprise of several students who jumped back and gasped.
He ignored the stunned crowd of students and followed Kyung-mi, who didn't seem to notice him at all, earbuds in her ears.
He followed for a while, munching Cheetos and casually walking behind her presumably without her noticing at all, her head gently bopping to the music.
Yoongi smirked to himself, finishing up his bag of Cheetos. It had been a while, and she still hadn't even noticed anyone was behind her at all, not even sort of sensed it. If he was anyone else, she could have gotten kidnapped, the idiot.
He pulled out one of her purple earbuds and put it in his ear, listening to what she was.
Kyung-mi turned to him so fast, seemingly ready to hit him, but just staring at him wide-eyed, shocked and scared and almost breaking out in a cold sweat all at once.
"Tablo?" Yoongi asked, "Are you home sick or sick of home?"
Kyung-mi frowned, "...So...? What if I am..."
"You could have been taken." Yoongi said matter-of-factly, "you couldn't hear me all this time, that's dangerous, you could have gotten hit by a car, you could have gotten sexually assaulted."
Kyung-mi looked at him evenly, "if you're here, you wouldn't have let that happen, right?"
He was taken a bit aback with that comment, not sure where Kyung-mi would get the idea that he would protect her or something.
But when he thought about it, he already had protected her a few times, saved her from herself. Herself being her biggest enemy was no exaggeration. Kyung-mi was largely unstable, he wouldn't say that because she'd take it as she was crazy. But she's not crazy, that's not what's wrong...
"Yaaah~" Yoong drawled, "I'm not your guardian angel, okay? And anyway, you shouldn't be a bitch who relies on everyone to save her, you should be the independent woman who makes a son of a bitch call for his mommy."
Kyung-mi smiled, and up until that point, Yoongi hadn't realized he'd said something nice. He was thinking about Hana's situation. It was all just fucking dandy that Pumpkin-head had showed up, but what if he hadn't? Jae-hwa would go on uninterrupted.
Yoongi put his arm around Kyung-mi, "Have you eaten yet?"
Kyung-mi looked a little baffled at his arm around her, looking at it with a frown, "No...?"
