prologue
"Are you going to miss me, my love?"
A dangerous question from a dangerous man, one whose hand lingered around her collarbone, his fingers grazing the bruises that he had left on her pale skin. Pain, that was all she knew, it was all she had ever known, and it was all she would ever know.
"Always, Master," she whispered in reply, not daring to relax as his hand drifted down, caressing the curves of her petite figure. She gently gripped his shirt in her hands, letting him tilt her chin up to meet his gaze, brilliant blue eyes meeting a much darker emerald.
The man merely chuckled, running his thumb against her soft lower lip as he took in her delicate features. She really had grown up quite beautifully, not only in appearance, but in the fact that she was scared as hell of him and his entire organization. "Good girl. I'm going to miss you so much when I'm gone," he murmured, replacing his thumb with two fingers, forcing them into her mouth for her to suck.
The female could do nothing but let her lips part and do as he wished, her eyes locked on his, for fear of being punished if he became displeased. She couldn't relax when he pulled his fingers out of her mouth, her body tense as she watched him examine her face with a satisfied smile on his own. "You're always so well behaved for me. I think I'll bring you a present when I get back, a nice wedding present. How about your father's head on a golden platter, would you like that?" He cooed, cupping her face in his hands.
"Anything you decide to give me will be perfect," she replied softly, for what else could she say? She didn't know her father, she only knew what she was told about him and the rest of her family, and how lucky she was to have been rescued from them from a young age. She belonged to him, he made sure that she knew that, and that everyone he worked with knew that too.
He seemed pleased with her answer, and she almost relaxed before he moved his hands down her body once more, resting his hands against her slender waist. "Just because I won't be physically here, doesn't mean that I don't have ways of controlling you to make sure you behave. I wouldn't want you to forget that," he purred, pulling her closer to nip at her ear. She didn't even have time to react when a knife was swiftly pushed into her back, stifling a cry of pain as he pulled her into a tight hug, pressing soft kisses against her neck, as if that would make it up to her somehow.
His grip on her finally loosened after a few moments, though she merely sagged against his body, pain coursing through her body to the point of being unable to move. There was poison on the blade, of course, he had once told her that it excited him to see her in pain, vulnerable and helpless against anything he may do to her.
He pressed a gentle kiss to the top of her head, running his fingers through her soft hair. "Don't fret too much, darling, I would never let you die like this. I just wanted to put you in a little bit of pain, so you remember who you belong to," he murmured, yanking the knife out of her so that she jerked back and crumpled onto the floor, clenching her jaw to keep in her cry of pain. Her eyes were open, but blank, devoid of all emotion. She didn't want him to have the satisfaction of seeing how badly he had hurt her. Her emotions and mind were the only things that belonged to her, ever since he had claimed her body after her first menstrual cycle.
The male stood up from his chair, looking down at her without an ounce of compassion in his eyes, before he delivered a swift kick to her ribs, watching her keep her cry of pain inside. "One day you will thank me, my love. You will thank me for rescuing you, because I am your savior. I saved you from a life of misery, and gave you all that you needed. And all that you need is me, isn't it?" he purred, leaning down and smoothing her hair away from her face before he pressed a sweet kiss to her forehead. She stayed quiet as she felt his lips against her skin, before he slapped her across the face, leaving a red hand print against her cheek. "All that you need is me, isn't it?" He repeated, his eyes fixated on her, waiting for her response.
"Yes! Yes, all I need is you, now and forever," she choked out hastily, afraid of what would come next as she met his gaze. She didn't dare to breathe for a moment, watching the way he looked at her, before he finally nodded approvingly and straightened up.
His betrothed lay there and watched him leave, though not once did any tears come to her eyes. She didn't know when she had stopped being able to cry, but it had to have been years. The last time she had cried hadn't been of pain, no, it had been from how good it felt to feel the sunshine against her face, the wind in her hair, and seeing the beautiful blue sky. Those images were only a distant memory now, it had to have been years since she had been let out of his office.
She knew she was going to kill herself at the end of this, she fantasized about it daily, about that moment of sweet release from the hell that she lived in.
But before she could kill herself, she had to save her family from the evil that was going to kill them.
