The Dress

We went up to Sally's room and she shut the door. Before she showed me the dress, she stopped and looked at me with a big smile.

"Are you and Jay gonna end up together?"

"Hopefully, that's the end goal."

"But Jake."

I sighed, "now that's complicated. I don't love him anymore, but I can't just break up with him."

"Right? What would people say?" Sally rolled her eyes.

I looked at her dead in the eyes, "I'm scared of him."

She stopped and just stared. She never thought I would admit to that out loud and truthfully I didn't think I would either. He scares me. I don't know what to do. What if I dump and he kills me? That's a real threat. If  he can't have me, no one can. And worse part of knowing him, he knows where I live, he knows my family, my friends. He knows my whole life, even my social security number. He could kill me and then pretend I'm still alive. I don't know what he's capable of, but it's not good.

"I'll try to stay with you as much as I can."

"Therefore I have a witness?"

"A friend."

I smiled.

"Anyways, here's my dress." She pulled out this long red ruffle dress. It was beautiful and I just knew she would look beautiful in it.

"I love it!"

"Thank you! Did you want to borrow 1 of my dresses?" She asked.

"I'll get mine tomorrow, I have this cute little velvet number at home."

"Can't wait to see it!"

"Although maybe have a back up for me. Don't want to make Jake madder than he already is."

"I can have Jay go with you instead."

"Again, don't want to make him madder."

She nodded. We continued to gush over her dress until bedtime. Which was sooner than later, even though we were so excited for the party, we needed our beauty sleep.
