The Red Envelope (Swiss)

"Sister Y/N?" Sister Imperator called. You were her personal assistant, well one of them. She would never admit it, but you were her favorite. Everyone in the clergy admired your work ethic and enjoyed your presence, especially the ghouls. Imperator might have always made a point to stay distant from individuals in the church, but she was more than aware of how Swiss took more than just a liking to you.

You stand from your desk in the corner of her office, you were editing Papa Emeritus IV's sermon for Sunday. You smooth out your a-line black dress uniform and quickly stand in front of Sister's desk, hands clapped behind your back. You made it a point to straighten your posture and say, "Yes, Sister Imperator. How can I be of service?" with a slight bow, "Oh y/n. Enough with formalities. You've worked for me for long enough to stop them." You smile slightly at her comment. The clergy was starting to feel more comfortable, and your hard work had paid off with this position, so you should be relaxed and proud, "I need you to find Swiss and give him this letter. Tell him to respond to me as quickly as possible. I need his answer within the week." She hands you the red envelope.

In the clergy a red envelope can mean one of two things, either an amazing promotion, opportunity, or some other amazing fortune. The other, death, exclusion, and or getting sent back to hell. You swallow harshly before shakily taking the envelope. You did have a crush on Swiss, who wouldn't? He is talented, snarky, funny, a gentleman, and attractive. Sister looked at your nervous reaction and softly said, "Y/n. It is good news, for him it will be the best news of his life." Your body's tension released as if it was a boa constrictor giving up on killing a tiny mouse. Tears stung the corner of your eyes in relief, "Th-Thank you sister." you say trying not to burst out crying at the overwhelming rollercoaster of emotions you just went through. You turned on your mary jane heels and left.

Finding Swiss always seemed to be an issue. He just had so many hobbies and interests that he could be in the garden, kitchen, lounge area, or his room. However, you do have a good tendency to know where anyone is at a certain time. You tend to follow patterns and observe obscure details about people, Sister is aware of this, hence why she adores your occupational performance more than other siblings.

You decide to check the common room first. Usually there is a ghoul or a sibling that knows where another one is at, or that can at least speculate. You enter the room...there is no one there. That was really strange for four in the afternoon on a Wednesday, but you let it slide.

Your next destination would be Swiss's room. He liked his alone time. Sodo could get too annoying and Aether too overbearing so sometimes he needed time to wind down. You remember that usually from four to six he likes to be in his room to unwind before band practice, but he could be in there later if his daily chores took longer. You blush and cringe at how you know this many facts about the multi-ghoul.

You turn down the familiar halls quickly and with purpose. Delivering a letter should not take all day and with the amount of time left before service, that twenty page sermon looks more and more daunting. Eventually you knock on the wooden door with his elemental symbol etched into it. There is no response. You knock again, this time a little louder. Still no response. You grumble a stream of curses before announcing, "SWISS IF YOU ARE IN THERE IT IS Y/N IMPERATOR TOLD ME TO GIVE YOU THIS!" Still nothing. You huff and start the journey to the kitchen.

While following the shortcut that Rain taught you long ago, you literally slam into his chest and fall onto the ground, "Oh my Satan, Y/n? Are you okay?" He quickly helped you stand, "Yeah, I'm fine, I'm fine" You mumble dusting off your uniform, "Why are you in such a hurry?" He tilted his head, "I'm trying to find Swiss to give him this." You hold up the red envelope. His head snaps back straight, his shoulders tight, and his breath hitches, "Wh-Why?" If he wasn't wearing his helmet he would be paler than the marble floors, "Oh no, Rain relax, relax. Sister said it was good news." He had the same reaction you did, "Thank Satan." He sighed, placing a hand on his forehead, you laugh at his distress. He straightens up again and tilts his head to the other side, "You do know what a red envelope for good news means right?" You raise your eyebrow in confusion, you just thought it was a promotion or like a special invite to dinner, "No?" Rain tenses again, clearly he did not want to be the one to tell you, "Okay well. It was nice seeing you y/n. Good luck finding Swiss." He quickly rushes past you. Shaking off the awkward end of the conversation, you continue on the assigned task, finding Swiss.

Since it was now six o'clock, dinner was being served so the kitchen was packed. You knew that finding Swiss in this crowd of ghouls and siblings was nearly impossible, so you look for the one person who runs this chaos, Mother Abbess. Scanning and sifting through the faces of people through the doorway, you finally find her. She is an older woman, coming from Austria. She always worked for the Church of Emeritus, but she served time in other Convents as well. She was a sweet older lady who wore the garments of a traditional nun, only instead of rosary beads around her neck, it was a golden grucifix. Mother Abbess is everyone's mother or grandmother. To you, she is the closest thing to family you have had in years. She took quite a liking to you, and you always make it a point to visit in the morning over a cup of tea. She always wears a smile and has a warm, inviting voice. Only when you broke the rules or angered her on a new level would she raise her voice. You weave through the crowds and approach her, "Mother Abbess?" She turns and greets you with kind eyes and a happy smile, "Oh my dear y/n. It is wonderful to see you. How may I help?" You smile back at her genuine kindness, "I'm looking for Swiss. I was wondering if he had stopped by?" She knitted her eyebrows together in thought, "Unfortunately no. I saw him this morning, he usually visits daily. He hasn't been back since. Sorry I could not be of any more help." You shake your head, "Oh no Mother you've helped me greatly, have a good night, I'll visit you tomorrow morning." She waved and you walked off.

The last and only spot to look was the garden, unfortunately for you it was pitch black outside and Swiss's favorite spot in the garden had no lights. Damn ghouls and their good eyesight. To add onto the stress of feeling like a failure for not finding him at the first destination, you are terrified of the dark. Especially in unknown areas...outdoors. You push open the glass doors leading to the garden and take a deep breath. Your shoes clacked against the uneven stone path. Your breath was quick, your heart rate accelerating. Every call of an owl, every rustle of a leaf, and every shadow shook you to your core.

Swiss's garden spot is secluded in the woods right outside of the garden walls. No one knew about it but you because one day Swiss was stressed out with rehearsals and he took you there to vent. He trusted you, he trusted the woods, and trusted nothing else. It is under a Weeping Willow tree he named Mary. There were two seats, a small table, and lights strung in the branches. The leaves and branches that hung low covered all of it, making it feel more secretive. You smile at how much your friendship has grown when you stop dead in your tracks. You feel eyes boring into the back of your head, you think your mind is playing tricks on you, but you turn around quickly anyways. Nothing is there.

Beginning to panic even more, you restart your pace to Swiss at a light jog. The envelope still clutched tightly in your hand. As you got closer to your destination, you felt the same feeling of someone staring at you again. You stop and frantically look around, "Hello? This is not funny. Who is there?" You subconsciously touch your thigh for the dagger sheath that is stealthily hidden beneath your dress. Hearing no response, you continue on, this time starting with a full sprint.

You finally see the dim lights of Mary's branches, and you push through the leaves into a feeling of familiarity and safety. You immediately hunch over, hands on your knees, and take deep, shaky breaths to regain composure. You stand up...and there is no Swiss. You stare at the empty seats with anger beginning to rise and fester throughout your body, "SATAN DAMMIT SWISS WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU!" You stomp like a toddler as you yell this, no one knows about this spot but you so you knew you were alone, "Fucking multi-ghoul never sticks to one damn schedule...always here...always there. OOO I'm Swiss I can do whatever I want because I stand on my own little stage and think I'm the shit." You mock Swiss as you slowly strut over to the chairs, "Never hey y/n! I'm FINALLY where you need me to be. It's never easy for me is it?" You sit down with your head in your hands, exhausted, "Fucking hell. The shit this man does to me. Satan help me."

A familiar laugh makes you snap your head up and look over your shoulder. There he was. Swiss. In all his glory, losing his shit over your toddler tantrum. You growl out of anger and stand up. Swiss is now doubling over in laughter, wiping tears from his eyes. He never wore his mask under Mary. You stomp over, he stands and looks down at you, "AWWW is someone upse-" You cut off his taunting by harshly pressing the red envelope to his chest, "Sister told me to give this to you." He looked down at your hand, then back at your face which was definitely red as a tomato, not from blushing for touching his toned chest, but anger for the bullshit journey he made you go on. He slowly took the envelope and you took a few steps back crossing your arms, "Okay? Are you going to be mad at me while I see if I'm getting damned back to hell?" Since you knew that was not happening you set your jaw tight. He analyzes your face for a second before tearing open the envelope and reading the letter inside.

Although you are very curious as to what the letter holds, you're too stubborn to let him win, so you stand there tapping your foot as his face contorts from fear, to relief, to realization, to happiness. He starts jumping, like a kid who hears the ice cream truck coming down the block. No matter how angry you were at him before, seeing him this giddy made your heart swell, and you smile and laugh at his dancing around.

You drop your arms out of each other and place your hands on your hips watching as this grown, adult man runs around cheering while hugging a piece of paper. Before you can react, Swiss picks you up and starts to spin you around with him, "Swiss!" you laugh and yell in surprise. He sets you down and stops spinning, but doesn't remove his hands from your waist. You hold onto his shoulders to brace yourself after the dizziness washes over you, "Oh my Satan, y/n. Finally, finally we can be together." He holds you tight against his chest. Although he is squishing your face to his shirt in the process you manage to squeak out, "I'm sorry....what?" Swiss stops his affections and steps back, still holding you in his arms, "Y/n? Do you not know what a red envelope means?" He looks confused because part of your job is to literally understand the ins and outs of the church. You shake your head no, confusion still plastered over your face. His mouth goes into a thin line, "Okay. Sit down." He lets you go and you both sit at the table where many conversations have taken place. Swiss leaned back in his chair, "Okay so, basically..." He stops, a blue blush spreading across his face, you were never one for bullshit, so you interrupt the awkward silence, "Oh come on, spit it out, Rain did the same thing earlier when I asked him about it." Now his blush deepened, "I-" he tried to respond, "Swiss." You say giving him a silent command. You stare him down while crossing your arms, an intimidating move that he could not resist. He squirmed in his seat before giving up,

"Okay so the red envelope basically means that it has to do with marriage or soulmate random stuff and I've had a feeling that you were my soulmate for a while and I begged Imperator to help me figure it out because higher members in the church have their ways of testing it and I know you work for her so I thought she would know so the red envelope basically says that we are soulmates and I wanted to be honest about it with you but I was scared you would reject me so I just shut my mouth and waited so. Yeah."

Your jaw dropped in reaction to how he did that in one breath, and how your crush was your actual soulmate and your boss quite literally set you up for life. You stand up and turn your back, taking a few steps to gather your thoughts. Swiss stands too and walks over to you placing his hand on your shoulder, "Look if you don't like me I get it, Sister can break the bo-''

You shut him up by turning and crashing your lips onto his, your hands cupping his cheeks with a strong grasp making sure that he can't pull away. He hesitates, but then kisses you back and wraps one hand around your waist, the other to the back of your head keeping you pinned to him. After a few minutes the heated make out session ends with both of you panting, smiling, and blushing, "So?" Swiss asked, pressing his forehead to yours,"So what?" You respond gazing into his eyes, "Do you accept it?" He said, anxiety filling his eyes, "Obviously idiot." You kiss him again, he laughs into the kiss and you part, "Now come on. I know how much you hate the dark, but it was funny messing with you." He wrapped his arm around your shoulders starting to lead you out from under the tree, "You bastard. I knew I was being watched." You playfully hit his chest, "Well I'm just an idiot who stands on my little stage and does whatever I want" He quipped back, "I just said the truth. You were being a dick." He laughs, "I'll give you a pass," and hugs you tighter to his side as you both walk back to the church.
