A Deal With the Devil

The Heavens attacked yet again, but this time there was a grave loss. You hold onto your husband's dead body, sobbing over his blood soaked uniform, "PLEASE PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME!" You scream, rocking back and forth with his body in your arms, his mask off, revealing his dull eyes and pale gray skin. Your own cuts and bruises felt numb and painless compared to the cries racking through your body.

Rain was the first to run over. He staggered, holding his side and grimacing in pain, "Y/n..." He grunts, kneeling next to you, "Who is it?" He asks, watching as your body shields the face of the body you were holding.

Aether sprints over, blood spattered all over him, none that was his, "Y/n? Rain, what's happening?" He asks, kneeling on the other side of you. Rain was about to respond, but another sob rips from your throat, "PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME!" You beg, still hunched over your lover, holding his head to your chest, "I just found them like this." He explains, gently placing a hand on your shoulder. You had other friends in the ministry that weren't ghouls, and the battle wear was for all. Sister, brother, and ghoul alike wore the same uniform.

Mountain limps over, a bloodied bandage from early in the battle wrapped around his knee, "Guys? What's going on?" He tries to walk faster, but only limps harder. He kneels in front of you, "Y/n who is that?" He asks, trying to move your body away from the person in your arms. You slap his hand away and growl, "Come back, please come back." You whimper through sobs.

The ghouls look at each other, confusion filling their gazes. They didn't really know how to handle the situation, usually Sodo or Swiss would be able to calm you down, but they weren't here yet. All three of the ghouls send mental messages to the others, hoping for a speedy savior. Sodo stood at the top of the hill, out of breath, exhausted. He noticed the small group huddled in the valley, desperate for an answer to Rain's panicked mental note. He sprinted down the hill, the anxiety fueling his speed. He pushes Rain aside, moving to hold you in his arms, "It's okay, It's okay Y/n, who ever died did nobally, they're in a better place now." You only sob and wail harder, your tears staining the face of your lover, "HE'S GONE HE'S GONE" You scream, still in shock. Sodo looked at the others, even more confused than before.

"Y/n, you have to show us who it is." Sodo whispers, you only scream back, "HE CAN'T BE GONE!" Your body shakes harder, wheezing. Aether and Sodo keep a reassuring hand on your shoulders. Mountain places his hand on your arm, you don't shoo him away this time. He floods his energy into you, calming you. You take a shaky breath, "He-H-He died saving me...He's dead because of me..." You whimper and sniffle, still holding your husband close to your chest, "Who Y/n?" Mountain asks, you shake your head, fearing that saying his name would only make it more real.

Silence fell over the group once more. Each ghoul begged for Y/n to show who was in their arms, but to no avail. Your screams and cries began to grow in intensity, Mountain's power ran low due to the battle. Rain looked over to Sodo, "Where is Swiss? Maybe he could help." You scream at his name. Aether was the first to realize, "Oh, Satan, no." He whispers, his face paling, eyes growing wide. He pulled your shoulder back, and there he was.

Swiss laid in your lap, head pressed into your chest, blood soaking his uniform. All of the ghouls sat there in shock. You wither out of Aether's grasp and hold Swiss tight against you again, "He's not gone, he's not gone, he's just-he's just sleeping, right?" You cry, starting to laugh hysterically, "No, no he's just playing a prank on us." You start laughing out of control, "Get up, get up you big goof." You shake his shoulders, "See! He moved, he's just messing with us!" You smile, tears still streaming down your face, the ghouls only watched on in horror. You start to sob again, the shock and desperate attempts at deceit only made the situation more real.

After some more time, a few medic ghouls ran down the hill. You hold Swiss tighter, knowing what they were here to do, "NO" you growl, "No, you will NOT take him, he'll get up soon." You say looking down at his face, he was peaceful. Like he looked every night, laying in your bed, holding you into his chest, "He'll wake up soon, he's never been a morning person" You say wiping your tears, more fall, "He likes to cuddle in the morning, he hates when I leave him in the morning." You gently start to stroke his cheek, the adrenaline in your bones hides the fact that his face was becoming colder by the second, "Swiss, my love, it's time to get up, our anniversary is tomorrow!" You say with as much joy you could muster.

Rain began to cry, Sodo placed a hand on his shoulder, "We have plans, I-I got you a special gift! Y-You made me a surprise! You've been talking about it all week." You shift his body so that his head rests against your chest, not your lap, "Please, please Swiss, please. You said you'd never leave me, you promised." You sob harder, the realization sinking in more and more.

After the ghouls let you have a few more minutes, Aether looks to Sodo, a silent conversation ends with a nod. They both grab your arms, pulling you away from Swiss, you scream, kick, curse and swear, but to no avail. The nurses take Swiss's body and run back to the ministry. It took all four ghouls to hold you back from following, "LET ME GO! PLEASE LET ME GO I NEED TO BE WITH HIM." You plead, all while still desperately trying to escape their hold.

A few more minutes pass, you give up, exhaustion from the heat of battle, the shock wearing off, and holding your husband as he died became too much. You crumble into the grass, still stained with your husband's blood. It smelled like him, you weep.

The funeral is today, "AETHER LET ME GO!" You scream and hit him, he doesn't even flinch, "I have orders, please, I wish I could be there too." Sister Imperator ordered that you must stay away from Swiss's funeral. A spouse could plead with Satan for their lover's life, Sister knew that your silver tongue could outwit and convince anyone. Aether was assigned to stand watch at your door, "Aether, please, please I love him, I am his spouse. WE are married." You hit and try to shove him out of the way harder, to no avail. A wicked thought fills your head, "I'm so, so sorry." You stomp hard on his tail and kick him in the groin, he crumbles. You quickly open the door and sprint to the congregation, the funeral already beginning, and almost finishing.

"If anyone would plead for this man's life, please let them know." The pastor says, Sodo and Rain look at each other, realizing that Swiss will be gone forever, "I WILL BEG FOR HIM! I WANT TO PLEASE!" You scream bursting through the doors and running to the altar where your husband lay.

You gasp and sob while taking in the all white outfit he wore, the sickly, pale man was only a shell of your husband. The pastor looks over at you, "Very well." He chants something you did not understand, a searing pain fills your chest, you crumble to your knees in front of the altar, everything goes black.

You feel the pain wash over and stand, a baren red land of sand and heat is the only thing you see. You turn around and face a throne, a huge man sits there, no horns, no monsters, just a man, "You're here to plead for a ghoul?" He raises his eyebrow. His gorgeous tan skin, black hair, and custom suit made him very attractive, but you were not distracted, you needed Swiss, you needed your husband, "Yes. My husband." Satan laughed, "You married a ghoul? You're just a weak, pesky human." You take a deep breath, trying to not lose your composure. You walk towards the throne, kneeling at the base of the steps as you would in the presence of Nihil or the brothers. You clasp your hands together and look up at him, he leans forward on his legs, "Yes I am married to Swiss. He is the best man or creature I have ever met. He helped me survive many battles, he comforted me in my times of need, he cooks, cleans, and tends to my every need. I-we were going to have kits." Your hand moves to your stomach, "I didn't get the chance to tell him, but even so after this last battle, I don't think it's there anymore." Tears start to prick your eyes, "He spreads your message, attends every mass, sacrifices everything to you." The tears begin to fall, "I can't go on without him. Please, please I'll do anything. Anything you need me to do will be done." You couldn't believe the words coming out of your mouth, making a deal with the Devil was already bad, but now swearing you will do anything to save Swiss, you're in deep shit.

Satan leaned back in his throne, pleased at how desperate you were to bring back one of his ghouls, normally people fear him enough to not beg for a life back, but your devotion and love for your husband did honestly touch his heart, although small, "Y/n. Rise." He commands, you stand, "I will send you back with your husband, but you must do one, simple task." You nod, "Anything, Satan." He smiles, "I need you to kill one specific person in that church. She seems to have it in to ruin the Emeritus name, I thought I could trust her." He paused, "Please, just give me a name. It will be done." He smirks, "Sister Imperator." Your face pales, how would you pull that off, she constantly had guards and you may have only seen her twice, but to get Swiss back, it was worth it, "Then it shall be done my lord." Satan snapped his fingers, everything went black.

Your eyes flutter open, looking up at a very concerned Aether and Sodo, "They're awake!" Sodo cheers, helping you sit up, "Swiss? Where's Swiss?" You completely ignore Aether's gasp as he looks at the back of your hand, "Y/n...you didn't." His thumb strokes over the branded pentagram, burned into your flesh, "I did." He looked at you with sad eyes, the silence was filled with an earth shattering scream, Swiss's scream. You scramble to your feet and face the altar, his body was thrashing wildly, a pained look on his face. You all watched in horror as life was breathed back into his corpse. After another minute of choking sounds and twitching, Swiss sat up gasping. You cry and jump onto the pyre, straddling his hips and holding him tight, "You're alive, you're alive." You sob into his neck. His hands wrap around your back, "How? How? Y/n are you okay? Did that arrow hit you?" His hands checked your arms and back for any injuries, he jumped in front of an Angel's arrow to save you, causing his own demise, "I'm okay Swiss, I'm okay."

You both held each other a little longer while the clergy just watched in shock. You pull back and look at his face, his eyes were no longer the dull, empty spheres. They were bright, golden, and glowing. You cup his face in your hands, his hands meet yours, he flinches feeling the brand, "Y/n, you...you didn't..you." He started hyperventilating, "What did you do?" He asked, frantically looking at your right hand's brand, "Why? Why would you do this for me?" He looks at you with anger, "You should have let me die. Why would you damn yourself for this?" You take in a shaky breath, "I couldn't let you die, I-Swiss." Tears started to flood out of your eyes, Swiss held you close to him. "It's okay, it's okay we'll find a way out of it." He tries to console. The clergy started to file out, including the ghouls. Leaving you and Swiss on the pyre,

"No. No, I have to do it. Satan...Satan gave me a gift back that he really shouldn't have felt the need to give back." He looks at you confused, "What?" You take a breath, "I'm having your kit." Swiss looked at you wide eyed, "M-my kit?" a smile finds his face, "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?" He laughs holding you tighter to him, "The battle started-I I lost it when I got stabbed, but Satan gave it back to me. We're going to have a family!" You start to smile too, feeling extra happy that Satan added the bonus gift to your blessing. Swiss kissed you passionately, you melted under his touch, thinking about never feeling his embrace again was devastating, the relief could not be put into words, "What do we have to do?" Swiss asks, pulling back for air, you whisper, "Kill Sister Imperator." Swis's head falls back as he roars with laughter, "That's too easy! I hate that bitch." You laugh with him, the grief from earlier completely vanishing. Laughing on a funeral pyre with your husband and soon to be kit was not the most normal occurrence at the church, but it sure was the most joyous one you have ever experienced.
