If You Died Tonight
If you died on any given night, no one would miss you. Not one single person would feel a loss.
Because more than one person cares about you. More than one person knows what it's like to get hit and abused and bullied and made fun of and more than one person feels worthless and you know that a death is not just a death.
A death is a ripple effect.
Death is depression and anger and regret and sadness and fear and understanding.
You wouldn't be too happy to hear that some random kid killed themselves, no matter who it was you wouldn't be happy about it.
If one of your friends killed themselves, you'd feel horrible.
So what gives you the right, to ever kill yourself?
I'll answer for you: Nothing.
Yes, you are only human but you are not the only human.
You are not the only one who gets told they're ugly and fat and you are not the only one who believes it.
I don't blame you for believing it.
It's not your fault. People are mean.
But people are also kind.
People don't notice because you hide it.
No one knows anything until they're told! Just because people don't know doesn't mean that they don't care.
When people ask you if you're okay, it means they care.
Your muscle memory spits out the words "yeah, I'm fine!" faster than you can paste on a new fake smile.
Well they asked didn't they?
That's how you know they would be there if you told them.
Because if they simply don't care, they simply won't ask.
But they do ask.
They will ask.
Guess what?
You ARE self-conscious
You ARE bipolar
You ARE anorexic
You ARE claustrophobic
You DO cut yourself
But that doesn't for a minuet mean that you don't deserve to be here.
You were "a mistake".
They must've mistaken you for someone you're not right?
Everyone does that, think's you're someone you're not?
Yeah.
Just because people PRETEND to think you're a mistake because they want you to feel like you're not good enough DOES NOT MEAN THEY'RE RIGHT.
And I'm not going to say that you can beat this. I'm not going to say that you can win the fight because LIFE IS NOT A GAME.
You cannot beat or be defeated by life, and you cannot quit when you get tired.
You get HIT you get BULLIED you get JUDGED
But you're not fucking ALONE.
And yeah people don't know you but you don't know your heroes and you care about them.
You care about them more than anything in the world,
But you shouldn't want to die because of the haters. You should want to stand up and defend them.
If you die because of your heroes it sure as hell had better be because you were willing to fight to the death for them because you know that they would fight just as hard for you.
They want to help you but they can't personally speak to everyone so they do what they can.
They can sing you to sleep and talk a smile onto your face.
And I want you to know that every second that you breathe, your heroes are proud of you.
Every fucking day that you spend talking yourself out of ending it, your heroes are proud of you.
You will never let them down unless you end it.
If you end it, you will be breaking every promise they ever made to their fans, to you.
You are breaking every single word you've ever sung and every fucking line you ever listened to.
They're fucking proud of every kid who stays alive just one day longer because they know what it's like and I know it's hard to believe someone through a computer screen but if you won't listen to me listen to them!
We're raised by bands and music but you don't believe that they love you?
LISTEN TO THEM.
Listen.
You can't call them your heroes but not trust them when they tell you over and over again that it gets better, you'll be okay, just hang in there.
People are going to make fun of your heroes because they don't understand.
But wasn't it each and every one of your heroes who was misunderstood?
Misunderstood mistreated and abused like they don't know it'll be okay?
You can't tell me that you listen to every word they sing and still don't get the message.
They're not hiding anything they're telling you to keep going. Because the end is never really the end.
When you think you've had enough they're telling you that they think that you could fight off much worse.
When you think you're drowning they're telling you, no, screaming at you, reminding you that you can always hold your breath until the water drains.
Every fucking time someone tells you you're not good enough your heroes are trying their hardest to let you know how much better than them you really are!
Your heroes haven't taught you, haven't raised you to give up easily. They didn't raise you to whisper your name when asked or hide your personality they raised you to be a resilient, loving, understanding hopeful caring person.
And not a one of your heroes have ever told you that suicide is the right answer.
So what, if your parents don't think you're good enough, they're not your real family.
Your real family is every other kid who goes through this. Every other kid with a broken home or a low self-esteem or bullies at school or razors hidden in their house that is in no way a home.
And we're all being raised by the same people. People who want to save us and want us to know that we are not alone no matter how many times you get picked last you will never be worth less, than someone who knows the meaning of the word love. You will never be unloved because when nobody loves you you have to love others to make sure that they know they're not alone. And somewhere there are hundreds of kids with pills and guns and ropes who will never use them even though they want to even though it hurts because they'd be giving up on the people who never gave up on them.
All their heroes told them they should fight and used the words "we" and "us" in every album just to let you know that none of us are alone and if you can't hear that then what's been keeping you alive this long?
Because nobody has heroes that they don't believe in.
And I believe in you.
Stay Strong
Don't Be Gone
