Ch 7

Jason woke up early, only to rush to the toilet and empty the contents of his stomach. He wiped his mouth and shakily made his way to the living room, where he was surprised to find Bruce bouncing Dick gently in his arms as he cried.

"Let me guess... you were having problems yodeling groceries too?" Bruce asked Jason in a tired, humorless voice.

"Yodeling? I just puked Bruce, I wasn't in the bathroom singing." Jason said, folding his arms. He clearly didn't get it.

Bruce thought about explaining it for a second, but he was too tired to try and explain metaphors and figures of speech to an 11 year old. "You and Dickie must have caught the same thing then, he hasn't been able to keep his food down either."

Dick whimpered, as if to prove how unhappy he was about all of this.

"I guess we'll all be staying home today." Bruce said.

"Bruce?" Jason said questioningly, taking a seat on the couch.

"Hmm?" Bruce responded tiredly.

"Can we watch a movie?"

Bruce plopped down onto the couch. "What show did you want to watch?" He asked, grabbing the remote and flipping the large TV on.

"Scooby Doo!" Jason said without hesitation.

Bruce started the show, settling back onto the couch with Dick curled up on his chest. The two were soon asleep, leaving only Jason to watch the teenage sleuths track down the monsters and unmask them.

It was almost ironic how similar the show was to daily life as a superhero, something Jason had only got a small taste of so far.

Jason dropped off to sleep soon after Bruce and Dick, despite his best efforts.

Bruce woke up to the strong stench of puke and the sound of two crying children.

Jason was sniffling quietly as he held Dick in his arms. Dick was wailing, and his face looked both pale and slightly flushed. Both boys were covered in puke.

"What happened?" Bruce asked, shooting up off of the couch and grabbing Dick from Jason's arms.

"Dickie was crying, so I took him from your arms, but then he started throwing up. When I smelled it I puked too..." Jason said, tears flowing more freely down his flushed cheeks.

Bruce sighed, looking at the TV screen which had a large, 'Are you still watching?', on it. The clock showed the time to be 9:27 AM. "Let's get you two cleaned up." Bruce said, leading the way up to the ensuite that was attached to his bedroom.

Bruce started to fill the tub with warm water, while he bounced Dick gently on his knee. "Jason, could you grab some new clothes for yourself and Dick?" Bruce asked.

Jason nodded, and went to grab a change of clothes for himself and his brother.

Bruce busied himself with bathing Dick. It was definitely easier than usual, Dick didn't squirm or splash like he usually would. Instead he cuddled into Bruce's strong arms and seemed to enjoy the warm water.

Jason came back a few minutes later with two sets of clothing as well as a diaper for Dick.

Bruce quickly finished washing off Dick, before lifting him out of the warm water and wrapping him in a fluffy towel. "Do you need help getting in the tub Jay?" Bruce asked gently.

"No." Jason replied, still slightly angry at Bruce for pushing him so hard the day before.

"Alright. Just call if you need anything." Bruce said, taking Dick into his room so he could get him dressed.

Dick's eyes were drooping while Bruce was getting him dressed, so Bruce carried the feverish baby up and down the hallway, bouncing him and trying to get him to fall asleep.

It didn't take long for Dick's eyes to close the rest of the way. Bruce took the sleeping baby and gently laid him down in his crib.

A splashing noise caught Bruce's attention and caused him to rush down the hall to check on Jason.

Bruce stepped into the Bathroom to see Jason shivering violently next to the toilet. There was puke inside that hadn't yet been flushed. Jason was soaking wet, and still wearing his boxers, which had Bruce confused.

"Hey Jay. You alright buddy?" Bruce asked, crouching next to Jason on the floor.

With Jason's shirt off Bruce could see the bruises that had formed from their training session the day before. A wave of guilt washed over him. He hadn't realized how harsh he was being on Jason... The boy hadn't once complained, and Bruce had done harsher training with Dick before he left, so he'd assumed that Jason could handle it. Bruce hadn't even thought that Jason might need to start slower than Dick did, but now that he was seeing his son covered with bruises from the times he fell, he realized that Jason had grown up in a way completely different to Dick, so of course he wouldn't be able to do everything that Dick could do.

Jason looked up at Bruce, hot tears streaming down his face. Jason didn't say anything, just cried harder.

Bruce didn't hesitate to wrap Jason in a hug, despite how wet and covered with vomit his son was. "Shh Jay, it's ok. I'm here... I'm so sorry about yesterday. I didn't realize how hard I was being on you." He whispered, hoping to sooth his crying child.

"I-I think I need help getting into the tub." Jason said, leaning his head down to rest on Bruce's shoulder.

Bruce scooped Jason up in his arms and carried him to the bathtub, setting him into the warm water, not bothering to take off his son's already soaked underwear.

Jason leaned his head back against the rim of the tub as Bruce scrubbed shampoo into his sweaty hair. Bruce used the shower head to rinse it out, making sure not to accidentally wash any into Jason's eyes.

Bruce squirted some body wash into Jason's hand and helped him scrub any residual puke off of his body. When Jason was finished bathing, Bruce wrapped him in a towel and left him to change into his other clothes.

When Jason was finished changing he walked into Bruce's bedroom and sat next to him, leaning his head against Bruce's arm and gazing down at Dick's peacefully sleeping face.

"I forgive you." He whispered, before closing his eyes and drifting off to sleep.

Bruce smiled down at his two sleeping sons before reaching towards his phone and texting Leslie.

"Hey Leslie, I think both Dick and Jason have the flu. Is there any way I can get them in for an appointment?" Bruce texted Leslie, hoping she would have some free time during the day to see them at her clinic.

Leslie texted back a few minutes later. "Sorry Bruce, the earliest appointment we have open is tomorrow morning. Can they wait until then?"

Bruce looked down at the feverish faces of his children. "I don't know." He texted back.

"I guess I could come over after I close up for the night." Leslie replied.

Bruce breathed a sigh of relief. "Alright. Thank you." He texted back. His gaze shifted back to Dick and Jason when he felt Jason nestle himself closer to his side.

A smile made its way onto Bruce's face as he looked down at his boys. 'I should probably call and excuse Jason from school...' Bruce thought, rubbing his free hand over his forehead. He gently laid Jason down on the bed and set Dick in his arms, making sure to cover them with the large, warm comforter from his bed.

When Bruce was done tucking his kids under the blanket, he walked downstairs and dialed the number for the main office at Jason's school.

"Gotham Prep main office. How can I help you?" The school's secretary spoke on the other end of the phone.

"Hello, this is Bruce Wayne, I'm calling to excuse my son Jason from school. He's sick today."

"It's Jason Todd, right?" The man asked, typing something into the computer.

"That's correct." Bruce replied.

"Will Jason be back tomorrow? Or would you like me to excuse him for tomorrow as well?" The secretary inquired.

"Umm... We should probably excuse him for the next two days or so. I don't really know when he'll feel better."

"Alright, I'll excuse him for today, tomorrow, and Wednesday. Will that work for you Mr. Wayne?"

"Yes, that should be fine." Bruce answered. "Thank you."

"Have a good day Mr. Wayne." The secretary said before ending the call.

'Now that that's done I should probably get some work done before the boys wake up again.' Bruce thought to himself. He made his way to his office and started working on some small tasks he needed to do for Wayne Industries.

It was times like these that Bruce really learned to appreciate Alfred and all he did for him. Dick and Jason had been alternating sleeping and puking for the majority of the day, and Bruce wasn't very well equipped to deal with that.

Currently, Dick was crying hysterically in Bruce's arms while Jason laid on the couch and sang never before heard verses to the wheels on the bus in a feverish, drunken way.

Bruce nearly cried from relief when he heard a knock on the door.

Leslie.

The door swung open, and Leslie took in the ensuing chaos. "Let me guess, Alfred finally decided to use some of his vacation days?" She said with a grin.

"Yep. Everything fell apart the moment he left." Bruce said, stepping aside to allow Leslie into the manor.

Leslie had a face mask covering her mouth and nose, and she carried a bag of supplies. "Are we going to start with the little one, or the drunk one?" Leslie asked, peering around Bruce to catch a glimpse of Jason's legs hanging over the back of the couch.

"Let's start with Dick." Bruce said.

Leslie had Bruce hold Dick as still as he could as she stuck a swab into his nose and collected the sample she needed.

It wasn't too hard, because Dick's nose was already runny from all his tears.

"Alright. Time for the other one." Leslie said, storing Dick's sample in a container that she labeled with his name and the time.

"Come on Jason, it's your turn to see Dr. Leslie." Bruce said, grabbing Jason and setting him right side up on the couch.

Leslie quickly swabbed his nose too, leaving him sneezing, before collecting her supplies and walking back towards the door of the manor. "I'll need to take these samples back to the lab and look at them, but I'll text you the results as soon as I can. If the boys do have the flu, I'll send the prescription to the pharmacy that's next to my clinic." Leslie finished, opening the door to leave.

"Thanks for your help Leslie." Bruce said, shifting Dick's weight over to one hip so he could close the door.

"No problem Bruce. I'll be in touch." Leslie said with a wave, climbing into her car and driving away.

Bruce put Jason and Dick to bed a few minutes later, giving each a dose of the tylenol Leslie had brought over for him.

Leslie texted Bruce about 30 minutes after she'd left and confirmed that both Jason and Dick had the flu. "Their medicine is ready to pick up at the pharmacy whenever you can get over here to pick it up." She texted a few moments later.

"Thanks." Bruce replied.

'Ugh, I can't just leave the kids here alone while I go get their medicine...' Bruce thought to himself. 'I need to find someone who can pick it up and bring it over for me.'

Nobody immediately came to Bruce's mind, but after a moment his thoughts turned to Barbara Gordon. Unfortunately, she was one of the people who Bruce had neglected to tell about Dick's current condition... Hopefully she wouldn't be too mad at him when she figured it out.

"Hey, Jason and Dick are both sick with the flu, and I can't leave them home alone. Would you be willing to pick up their prescriptions at the pharmacy near Dr. Leslie Thompkins' clinic and bring them over?" Bruce texted Babs, feeling extremely awkward.

"Wow. Who knew you knew how to ask for help... Of course I'll pick it up, but why can't you leave Dick and Jason home? They aren't children... or at least Dick isn't a child." Babs replied quickly.

"Dick isn't exactly himself right now." Bruce texted before adding, "I'll explain when you get here."

"Alright." Babs texted.

"Thank you." Bruce sent, hoping Babs wouldn't make a remark about how he finally learned how to be polite or something like that. Luckily, she didn't make any more comments.

It didn't take Babs long to get to the manor with the prescription in hand. When Bruce opened the door, the first thing she noticed was the infant curled up in Bruce's arms.

"Bruce... who's that?" Babs asked, dreading the answer.

"This is Dick Grayson." Bruce replied in a low voice, only having just rocked Dick back to sleep.

Babs' eyes widened in surprise, and she let out an unsure chuckle. "Good one Bruce, but last I checked, Dick was 18, not less than a year old."

Dick's eyes opened when he heard Babs' voice, and he squirmed a bit in Bruce's arms.

"T-those are Dick's eyes..." Babs said, just now noticing how similar the two looked.

"That's because this is Dick." Bruce said, bouncing Dick gently in his arms.

"Well..." Babs said, clearing her throat. "Here's the medicine."

Babs left once she handed the bag to Bruce and he repaid her the cost of the medicine. Even though she always got a yearly flu shot, Babs didn't want to take a chance with getting sick. Not to mention that Bruce wasn't exactly good company.

Once Babs was gone, Bruce gave Dick his first dose of the medicine before putting him back to bed. He did the same for Jason, gently shaking him awake and feeding him the medicine before tucking him gently back under his covers.
