Prolouge
Dipper walked home, ready for Spring Break to begin. His sister would have accompanied him, but he had practice with the chess team. Strolling along, completely oblivious to the stream of light behind him, the boy decided to take the forest shortcut they had made.
He and his sister, Mabel, found it sometime in fourth grade. Ever since, they've been able to get home in less than five minutes. As Dipper walked through the familiar forest trail, something seemed... off.
Turning his head, he saw footprints. They were human, but that was it. No one else walked through the forest but the twins nowadays. Who could possibly have gone here? And why?
After mentally debating for a second, Dipper deemed that Mabel wouldn't mind him being a couple of minutes late. Notice him, really. Turning from the trail, he followed the footprints to an odd device.
It was a circular pad on the ground, looked to be made of glass. He eyed the odd piece with a raised eyebrow. What on Earth is this? Turning away, the tween decided he's done exploring for the day.
Dipper walked backwards into a briar bush, thorns catching on his shorts. The boy seemed to panic a little, and started struggling against the plant. Dipper won the battle, finally being released with a couple of tears. When he fell to the dirt, something appeared at the corner of his eye.
A notebook.
Dipper picked up the notebook with a raised eyebrow. It had a symbol in pink pen, one that resembled a gem. Inspecting it further, he opened it warily. Upon this action, his head began thumping hard. He had to put it down before continuing.
At first, it seemed like it was written in scribbles, but, slowly blinking his eyes, he realized it was changing to legible writing. He read the first sentence.
To whomever it concerns,
