Chapter 9

"I asked you to not do one thing. What was it?"

"Raise the dead."

"And what did you do?"

"...Raise the dead."

Mabel huffed in exasperation as Dipper lowered his head. "Well that's just great, isn't it? Right in the middle of our party too!", his sister muttered. "Now what? What's the weakness?"

In a frantic, the boy pulled out the journal. "Weaknesses: None. Oh come on!", he practically shouted, before immediately regretting his decision as the zombie groans got louder. Not thinking, he grabbed Mabel's hand and ran to a different direction, which immediately got them cornered. The now spreading army of zombies was quickly catching up to them, and gosh darn it, they got Soos!

Man, he really screwed this one up. He was so desperate to get the government agents off their tail and onto the town so he could finally get some answers. They heard something about 'Project Pheonix' and Dipper immediately knew they were nothing but red flags. But he got so caught up in the mess, and just started the zombie apocalypse.

A zombie grabbed Mabel's hand and refused to let go, super strength be damned.  No. No no no, not Mabel.

Thoughts started buzzing through Dipper's head, until they all collided into one thought. Protect Mabel.

"DON'T!

TOUCH!

MY!

SISTER!"

Without thinking twice, he jumped up and cut the arm off of the zombie and beheaded it, flinging it off of the katana and into the setting sun.

He took a deep breath before finally realizing what just happened.

Katana. Dipper's weapon was a katana.

A quiet chuckle turned into a loud, victorious laugh. He did it! Oh, after all this time!

The zombies grew closer, and Dipper, in a bout of confidence, practically bounced from one to the other while he maimed them. Only to turn around and realize it had done nothing at all.

"Dangit.", the tween muttered, before hearing Grunkle Stan's groan from inside the Shack. The twins ran in there as fast as possible, only to be cornered again. And Soos just had to teach them how to use the tools.

"Nobody messes with my family, BUT ME!", the older man shouted, urging the kids to run into the attic. They did, with the man following and bolting the door from behind. "Well, at least you can't deny that any of this exists, right?", Dipper tried to joke, only to realize he made it worse.

"Kid, I've always known.", he finally admitted in a gruff tone. "I'm not an idiot, Dipper. Of COURSE this place is weird. I was just hoping that by denying it, I would be protecting you." The man sighed, turning away. "Guess I wasn't trying hard enough."

Mabel thought for a moment, opening her mouth, before glancing at Dipper and closing it. "It's not your fault we're a magnet for weird. And trouble.", she finally said, choosing her words carefully as she stared at the floor. This was a sore spot for her.

Dipper screwed up. He needed to fix this.

After discovering what the blacklight hid in the journal (which the twins silently agreed to start doing with the notebook; with the government on their tail, they needed to start hiding stuff), the two males collectively groaned at the very apparent thing that needed to happen.

The song started off awkward, apart from Mabel, but eventually, the family got into it and successfully slew the zombie apocalypse with the power of 80's music. What a plot twist.

After the cleanup happened, and everything had gone back to its definition of normal, the twins took a breath and looked at each other. Mabel playfully hit his shoulder. "So, a katana? Not bad.", his sister complimented, pretending to walk with a model's confidence as her gem glowed brightly and she casually pulled out a pair of bladed fans.

"Trendy.", Dipper remarked with a smirk. Mabel looked down and proceeded to gape in awe. "Look! They change pattern!", she squealed as a flap made the weapon match her sweater. The tweens then proceeded to freak out collectively, as they knew no one could hear them. Stan was doing tours, and the noise of everyone would drown them out.

"And just think, with this new discovery, what we'll be prepared to fight next.", Dipper thought aloud as the two of them looked at the bunker page in the journal, blacklight unveiling it's new secrets.
