Chapter 3

"Mabel! Look out!", Dipper yelled. The girl narrowly escaped the beast's ferocious swing, taking a tuck and roll. She ran to her brother's side only to feel a tingle by the hands. Dipper was forced to the ground by his sister with no hesitation as an attack missed him by a hair.

Dipper grabbed Mabel's wrist and they rushed up a pine tree with little effort. He stopped at a high branch and let go of Mabel, letting her fly. Not everyone stops when he does, after all. His twin didn't scream as she fell, knowing fully that her brother would catch her. Even if he couldn't, she could just teleport anyway.

The beast gave a bellowing roar as it searched for its enemies. It smashed boulders, uprooted trees, dug pit holes, but never bothered to look up. It continued it's search, all while Dipper was documenting its progress. He even got a decent picture in. That doesn't happen very often.

As it tried to suplex a boulder in search of the two, it became too large to carry and ended up crushing its head. The rock shook the two out of their attention spans, and they fell down the tree without a sinch. The twins looked at the ground, where a gem laid. It looked similar to a ruby, but was a deeper red.

"M'lady.", Dipper gestured, holding out his arm. Mabel scoffed. "No fair! I did it last time! You do it." "No, I did it last time.", Dipper argued. "You were busy trying to decide which color Tamsin's hair should be dyed. I remember because the answer is- and always will be- none!" Mabel looked back in thought, face expressing her contemplation. "Oh yeah."

Dipper gestured once more to his sister, who followed the command reluctantly. "I'm tellin' ya, there's a warp pad or kindergarten around here somewhere.", Dipper thought aloud. "Why's that?", Mabel asked with a cocked head. She sent off her hot pink bubble and they started walking. "Because that's the six corrupted gem we've seen this month! Why else would there be so many of 'em around here?"

His explanation was stopped short by a black car running way past the speed limit. The twins just stood there, watching as it ran thinking don't-

it turned left.

Dipper and Mabel groaned in sync. What did Grunkle Stan do now?

The "entrepreneur" looked at the government car with worry. He hadn't committed a crime (not recently anyways) so what was this guy walking around with a clip folder and pen? The ominous figure glanced up at the door and knocked patiently. Stanford didn't close up shop, but he tried to keep the man as distracted as possible.

"Welcome to the Mystery Shack! What can I do for y-" "Stanford Pines?", the man asked sternly. His voice was deep, and hinted that he wasn't here to mess around. Taking the silence as a yes, the agent continued, "Stanford Pines, I'm Agent Farrell from the Department of Commerce. It has recently come to our attention that you don't have a business license." Farrell gave his statement to the man with a raised eyebrow.

The twins walked in through the other door on the conversation. "Oh, um, Of-of course I have a business license! I can't run without it!", Stan loudly told the man as he tried to think of something. "Oh. Well then, let me see it and I'll be on my way."

The old man walked to the side and let the agent in. The twins were off doing there own thing until they noticed the agent. Mabel was the first to notice it. Maybe it was the shadow, or he had one of those faces, but something about him seemed familiar.

"Do I know you?", Mabel asked aloud to the agent.
