Chapter 2

The twins liked it here. Open space, things to do, things to explore. And the people were so dumb that the kids could fit right in!

"Hey Dipper, have you seen the notebook?", Mabel asked. Dipper pulled a box out from under the bed and opened it. Inside was the notebook he had found on Spring Break, changing both of their lives forever. "What do you need it for?"

"I was gonna try that whole weapon thing again. I can never seem to get it down.", she explained. Dipper had already summoned his weapon, once. Mabel wanted to keep up with her brother.

Tossing her the notebook, Dipper casually thought aloud, "You already have a weapon, remember? Why do you want that one, whatever it is." Mabel sighed. "The grappling hook was a gift. And it's great. But a gem weapon is personalized. It's gonna be made for me and my personality. Plus, it means that I'm as strong as you." On that last word, she hit his shoulder lightly.

Hitting back, Dipper gave a little laugh. "I doubt that." The two started to do a light fist fight as they bantered, "Oh, yeah?" "Yeah." In their fight of giggles, Dipper's birthmark started to glow. Taking notice of this, Mabel stopped. "Bro-bro, you're doing it again." The teen stopped and looked up. "Oh."

He brushed up his bangs and looked in the mirror. Dipper then closed his eyes and took deep breaths, as he had done several times before. When he was in a meditative state, Mabel took the notebook and started to read a certain page.

In every gem, there is a weapon made for them. These weapons can be summoned, but it may take practice at first. Remember, the weapon is a part of the gem, so it should come naturally to you.

Summoning can be done in many different ways, as each is different. For those like you and me, it is common to follow these steps to ease the process.

1. Take a deep breath. Keep a calm head.

Mabel shut her eyes and did just that. She tried not to smile or laugh, keeping her concentration.

2. Let the power of your gem flow. It will begin to light up when this is achieved.

Continuing to take deep breaths, she cleared her head and loosened her position. She could have sworn a pink light was in the room.

3. Envision what you want. By this point, it shouldn't be too hard to do that. And once you have completed that, chances are you either have your weapon or are close to getting it. As a hybrid, there is a good possibility that you have your mother's weapon. But for all that I know, you could get your own. We are one of a kind, and we are unpredictable. Don't forget that.

The tween cupped her hands around her chest, as if waiting for the weapon to appear in her hands. However, the pink glow began to fade, and so did her hopes. Once it was gone, she opened her eyes. Dipper, with the glow gone from his birthmark, gave her a thumbs up.

Looking down at her empty hands, Mabel wasn't pleased with this result, though. She flopped upside down back onto her bed, frowning. What was she doing wrong?

Dipper looked at his discontent sister with a small smile. "If it makes you feel any better, it was ten times brighter than anything I could try to do." Mabel gave a small smile. "That and you were able to make it glow and fade on command." "Really?", she piped. "Yeah, we both know I can't do that. Trust me, I've tried."

Putting his hands over his forehead, as if on cue, his birthmark-gem began to glow. Dipper stuck his tongue at this new predicament, causing Mabel to laugh as she put herself right-side up again. He was never able to control that. One leg up she had over him.

Dipper festered to fade his gem as Grunkle Stan called out, "Kids! Dinner!"
