CHAPTER TWO, the tournament
Later that night Kate was sitting on the porch swing of her house, reading her Percy Jackson book. She glanced up and over to her right when she heard a door open and close next door. She turned her attention back to her book and continued to read until she heard a familiar voice say, "Hey, neighbor."
Kate looks over to her right, smiling upon seeing Jack leaning on top of the white fence that blocked their two houses from each other. "Hi, Jackie." He smiles widely, not realizing how much he missed her call him that until that moment. Kate puts her bookmark in place before she closed her book and glances back at Jack. "What's up?"
"I just wanted to apologize for earlier." Jack replies. When Kate looks at him with confusion, he adds, "You know, when I said the Bobby Wasabi Dojo is a joke." He looks at her with an apologetic expression, shaking his head. "I didn't mean it. I was just mad at Rudy."
Kate nods in realization, sending him a reassuring smile. She was happy that Jack didn't mean what he said because it really did hurt her. She loved the dojo and it meant a lot to her. "It's okay, Jack. You probably need to apologize to Rudy more than me, but apology accepted."
Jack looks relieved and he smiles. "Okay" He shakes his head. "And I'm not really in the mood to talk to Rudy. I'm still kind of mad at him, but I'm glad we're good." They share a smile, staring at each other longer than they should. Jack is the one to break the silence that fell in the air, clearing his throat as he takes his arms off the fence. "Um, I'm gonna head back inside."
"Okay," Kate said, glancing down shyly when she blushed out of embarrassment because of how long they had been staring at each other. She looks back at him as the blush faded, sending him a small smile. "Good night, Jackie."
"'Night, Rina." Jack spoke, waving at her before he turned around and walked back to the front porch of his house.
****
Kate was helping the members of the Bobby Wasabi Dojo with packing things up the next day. She was beyond upset that the dojo was being shut down. Even though she could easily get those two belts on her own at the tournament, they still needed another member and without that member and those two belts they were done.
Kate heard the door open, but she didn't bother to look over as she continued to pack things up with Marge and the boys. It wasn't until Rudy spoke did she look up, surprised that Jack was back in the dojo. "Jack, you're back." Rudy said and he seemed to be surprised as well.
"I'm just here to get my stuff." Jack explains, walking to the lockers the members of the dojo put their stuff in. He looks around at all the boxes with furrows eyebrows. "What's going on?"
"We're closing." Jerry replies. "No Jack, no belts, no dojo."
Jack frowned and he glanced at Kate as if to confirm what Jerry said is true. When she nodded with a sad look on her face, his frown grew deeper.
"Milton David Krupnick."
Everyone's attention is turned to the front entrance of the dojo when Milton's dad walked in, and he didn't look happy. Milton had jumped, startled upon suddenly hearing his dad's voice.
"So, this is your French horn lesson, huh?" Milton's dad asked, taking a look around. Kate assumed that Milton didn't tell his dad that he was taking karate lessons by how angry his dad appeared to be.
"Dad, I'm sorry." Milton apologizes, walking over to stand in front of his dad. "I was taking karate lessons because kids kept beating me up for taking French horn lessons."
Kate looks at him with wide eyes. "Wait, really?" She frowns once he nodded. "Milton, you could've told me about and I would've beat those kids up for hurting you."
Milton shakes his head, sending her a small smile. "Thanks, but it's okay."
"Let's go, Milton." Milton's dad sighs. "You're lucky you didn't hurt yourself."
"It's closing anyway." Milton shrugs. He looks around the place with a sad expression. "This is the only place I felt I really belonged. I'll let my bully know I'm available."
"Now my mom's gonna send me back to Mrs. King's Dance Academy." Eddie speaks up. He shakes his head with a sad expression on his face. "My body's not made to mambo."
"Guess I'm a lone wolf again." Jerry nods, trying to act all tough, but Kate could clearly tell he was going miss them all. "And that's how I like it." He does his best to fight tears from escaping. "Don't think for a second I'm gonna miss any of you meat bags."
Kate chuckles quietly, sending him a sad smile. "Yeah, I'll miss you too, Jer." She glances him, Eddie, and Milton. "I'll miss all of you." The three boys looked at her with sad smiles.
Milton waves goodbye. "See you around, guys."
Eddie and Rudy waved back at him, and Milton started to leave the dojo with his dad. "Milton, hang on." Jack stops Milton and his dad from leaving, quickly heading over to them. He looks at a nearby open box, noticing some wooden boards. He leans over to pick up a board, looking at Milton with a grin. "Why don't you show your dad how you can break a board?"
"Break a board?" Milton looks at him in disbelief, following the brunette-haired boy over to some boxes that were next to each other. Jack puts the board on top of the two boxes that had some space between them as Milton continues to speak. "I can barely cut a well-cooked piece of fish."
Jack looks at him with a smile, gesturing to the board. "Just believe in yourself and do it."
Milton shakes his head. "I can't. When I was born, my parent's thought they had given birth to a baby bird. I mean-"
"Do it, Krupnick!" Jack interrupted him in a loud voice.
"Ah!" Milton yelled as he karate copped the board in half. Kate watched with a wide-eyed expression, and she laughed in disbelief. Milton never done that before and thanks to Jack he broke a board in half.
Milton looks at the split wooden board on the floor with wide eyes and a smile. "Holy Christmas nuts!"
Milton's dad looks at him with furrowed eyebrows. "Milton?"
Marge shakes her head, pointing at the split wooden board on the floor. "That ain't no baby bird right there, uh-uh."
Kate smiles widely and went over to congratulate Milton along with Eddie and Jerry. She then moves to stand between Eddie and Jack. "That was unbelievable, Jack." Rudy said to Jack with a smile. He gestures to Kate and the boys. "These guys are your friends." Jack glances at them to see the four of them were smiling at him. "They didn't break the Wasabi code." Jack looks back at Rudy, who looks at him with an apologetic expression. "I did."
"I broke it too." Jack confesses. He glances at his friends, shaking his head. "You don't walk away from your friends when they need you." The five teens shared a smile.
Rudy puts his fist against his hand, looking at Jack with a hopeful glint in his eyes. "Wasabi?"
Jack glances at Kate, Eddie, Jerry, and Milton. They smile at him and do the same thing with their hands that Rudy did. Jack smiles, putting his fist against his hand while looking at Rudy. "Wasabi." Everyone cheered and high fived each other, all happy that Jack was back in the dojo.
****
They each started practicing the next day for the upcoming tournament. The first practice they did the format was Eddie, Rudy, and Jack in the first row and Kate, Jerry, and Milton in the second row. At first it was Kate, Eddie, Jack, Rudy, and Milton who did the first karate move together which was the start out move. But as the moves started to get harder, it became just Kate, Jack, and Rudy who were doing the moves.
When they were practicing a different karate move, Marge flipped over Eddie again causing Kate and the boys to grimace. The next karate move Jack went first. It was a mixture of kicks and spins that looked kind of complicated. Once he got to the other side of the mat where Rudy stood, everyone clapped for him. Kate followed his lead, doing the same karate moves he did. But she did some more spin moves than Jack did. She grinned as she stood.
Jack rolls his eyes playfully, clapping along with the others for Kate. "Rina, you're such a show off."
Kate shrugs, grinning at him and she walks over to stand beside him. "Just a little bit."
Kate, Jack, and Rudy watched with wide eyes while the others attempted to do the same karate move Kate and Jack did. Yeah, they didn't do that good, and they all ended up on tumbling over each other which caused Kate, Jack, and Rudy to cringe.
Next up was practicing with the dummies. Rudy showed them what to do and Milton went first. Kate was a bit surprised that he actually knocked down the dummy, but she was proud of him and cheered along with everyone else. The cheering was cut short when the dummy popped up from being down for a few seconds and hit Milton so hard he fell.
Towards the end of their practice, each of them could do the same karate moves, and that was when Rudy knew that they were ready for the tournament.
*****
It's finally time for the tournament. Over the P.A. system in the Black Dragon Dojo, the announcer exclaims, "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the Black Dragons." Some Black Dragon Dojo did some cool karate moves as they moved out to the main area where the audience are at while the rest of them walked out with them. The room was erupted into cheers and applause for the Black Dragons.
The tournament was being held at the Black Dragon Dojo and they had bleachers set up on both sides of the dojo. One side rooting for the Black Dragons, and the other side rooting for the Wasabi Warriors. "And now for our visitors, the Wasabi Warriors!"
Upbeat music is playing as Kate and the boys walk out to the main area in slow motion and the side rooting for them applause and cheered. Each of them posed differently, but at one pose Jack did he accidentally hit Jerry in the nose. Kate cringed when she saw this happen and Jerry looked at Jack with a small glare. Jack apologetically smiled as Jerry walked off to the bench. The music stopped while Kate and the other three boys followed Jerry.
Kate takes a seat on the bench beside Milton, glancing at Rudy to see he was holding a clipboard. "Let the competition begin!" The announcer spoke over the P.A. system.
Rudy looks at his students. "Okay, guys, Eddie's up first."
Kate looks out at the middle of the room, raising her eyebrows when she saw Eddie was on his knees and it looked like he was praying. Jack sighs, shaking his head. "Aw, man." He gets up and goes over to Eddie. "Hey."
Rudy sits down beside his cousin and Kate tunes out Jack's conversation with Eddie while she looks at Rudy with a nervous look. "You think that Eddie can beat his opponent?"
Rudy shakes his head and sighs. "Not a chance. The guy he's up against is huge."
Kate glances at the Black Dragon member Eddie has to fight, biting her lower lip. The boy was tall, strong, and he looked mean. "Hey, who knows, maybe Eddie will win." She shrugs. "I mean, miracles happen."
"Wow!" She turns her attention over to Jack and Eddie to see they had stood up and both were looking at Eddie's opponent with shock. "What do they feed you, brother?" Jack questioned in disbelief.
The Black Dragon smirks, pointing at Eddie. "You're going down." Kate was surprised at how low his voice sounded. She didn't know what to expect with how he sounded, but she didn't think his voice sounded that low.
Eddie puts a hand on Jack's shoulder, causing Jack to look at him. Eddie shakes his head. "I don't think I can do this. Even Marge the lunch lady throws me around."
"Eddie, look, this is your day to change all of that." Jack tells him. "If losing to Marge makes you angry," He pats Eddie's head that wore a helmet used specifically for karate tournaments. He sends him an encouraging smile. "Then use it."
"Come on, man!" Jack encouraged, walking back over to the bench to sit down.
"You can do it, Eddie!" Kate cheered for her friend, her other friends joining her with cheering on Eddie and soon the crowd behind them joined them on cheering.
Eddie stands in front of his opponent with a worried look on his face. The cheering died down when it was time for the two to fight. Eddie ran at the Black Dragon member, grabbing his arm as he stepped on the Black Dragon's member leg, and then threw the Black Dragon's member over himself and onto the ground. Kate immediately stood up with her friends and cousin, cheering along with the Wasabi Warriors side.
"He did it!" Rudy cheers while Eddie and his opponent were pulled apart and stood up. "We got our first belt!"
Eddie walks back over to them, holding a yellow belt. Kate sits back down along with her friends, but Jack had stood up and put one foot on the bench. He looks at Jerry, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Okay, nunchucks are up next. Jerry, all you gotta do is-"
"Save it, Jack," Jerry cut in. He smirks. "I got this." He stood up and walked out onto the mat. Jack sat back down, cheering for Jerry with the Wasabi Warriors side. Jerry stood on the mat in front of his opponent and Kate recognized the boy as Brian from the day when she and Jack fought four Black Dragons in the cafeteria.
Brian shows off his nunchucks skills first and Kate had to admit she was impressed. "Not bad." Jerry comments. "Check this out." He started out with his nunchucks well, but then he hit himself in the place where the sun don't shine and everyone winced and groaned as he fell.
Kate and Jack exchange a worried look and they both rushed over to Jerry. "Hey, man, are you okay?" Jack asked, kneeling beside him along with Kate.
"Everything is purple." Jerry replied, looking around with wide eyes.
Kate slowly nods. "I'm gonna take that as a no." She sends a sympathetic smile to Jerry, patting his shoulder. "If it makes you feel any better, you were doing a great job, Jer." Jerry sends her a small smile. "Thanks."
Brian ended up winning that round and Kate and Jack help Jerry walk back over to the bench. They each sat down with Kate ending up to be between Jack and Milton. "Okay, Milton, you're up next." Rudy said to the red-haired boy. "If you can break more boards than your opponent, we win our second belt."
Milton nods, showing his hands, and Kate furrowed her eyebrows upon seeing his hands were covered in oven mitts. "I'm ready, Rudy."
"Dude, why do you have oven mitts?" Kate asked him.
Milton smirks. "By oven mitts do you mean," He stands up, throwing off the oven mitts, and stands in a fighting stance. "Weapon warmers?"
Kate looks at him with a deadpanned expression. "No, I don't."
As Milton walks out onto the mat, Jack glances at Kate and chuckles. "You got any clue as to why he had those?"
"No idea." Kate chuckles, shaking her head. She gestures to Eddie, Jerry, and Milton. "I've learned to not question anything these boys do."
They turn their attention to behind them when they hear Milton's dad shout, "I love you, Milton!" Milton's dad then drew a heart in the air.
Milton smiles and waves at him. "I love you too," He drew a heart in the air like his dad did. "Dad!"
Kate's eyes widens when Milton's dad opens up his shirt, revealing his skin was painted green which was the main color for the Wasabi Warriors. "Wasabi!" He then did arm karate arm movements before he sat down.
Milton waved at him before he turned to face his opponent, who happened to be Frank. They bowed to each other and the referee points at them to start. They face their boards that are in front of them sat on the edge of two cement blocks. Frank easily broke his wooden board and the crowd rooting for the Black Dragons cheered.
"Double it." Milton said to the referee and smirked.
Kate's eyes widens and she shares a worried look with Rudy. She looks at Jack when he exclaims, "Yes! My man's going for the win!"
Kate couldn't help the chuckle that escaped her lips at seeing how excited he was and she cheered along with her friends and the crowd rooting for the Wasabi Warriors. Kate immediately cheered loudly with her friends and the crowd when Milton broke the two boards.
"Yes, go Milton!" Kate cheered excitedly.
"You go, baby bird!" Marge exclaimed.
"He's got the belt." Rudy grins. "We're saved! I get to keep the dojo!"
Kate grins excitedly and celebrates with the boys. She turns her attention to Milton when she hears him exclaim, "Eat that Black Dragons!" Her eyes widen upon seeing him trash talk to the Black Dragons. "You don't have Milton Krupnick to kick around anymore." She watched with shock when Milton did a nipple twister on Frank.
"He's doing a nipple twister!" Rudy points out with a worried look on his face. "That's illegal."
The referee quickly went over to stop Milton, pulling him away from Frank. Kate sighs sadly and sits back down when the referee took the yellow belt away from Milton. Rudy goes over to Milton, looking at him with furrowed eyebrows. "Milton, you lost the belt. It was in your hands. You have any idea what this means?"
Milton grins. "It means I just had the best moment in my life." He sat down and Rudy shook his head with a look of sadness on his face.
"That's it." He walks back over to the bench and sits down. "I have to move back in with my parents."
"Rudy, I'm up next. I'm not gonna let you lose the dojo." Kate assured him as she stood up.
"Okay, Rina, this is the bo staff round." Jack said, turning his attention to her. He tilts his head to the side, raising his eyebrows at her. "You got this? The last time I remember seeing you use a bo staff you weren't that good."
Kate went over to grab her bo staff she would use and does a few moves with it which left Jack impressed.
(this is the move kate does with her bo staff)
The brunette-haired girl looks at him with a smirk. "Yeah, I improved since then."
Jack nods, still looking at her with an awe-struck expression. "I noticed." He smiles at her. "Good luck."
Kate smiles back at him. "Thanks, Jackie." She walked onto the mat as Jerry laughed a bit, pointing at Jack.
"She called you Jackie."
Jack glares at him. "Shut up." Jerry chuckled quietly and raised his hands in defense.
From where the Black Dragons sit, Ty looks at the black-haired boy who was going up against Kate. "You know what to do." The black-haired boy nodded and stood up, walking onto the mat.
The crowd for Wassabi Warriors cheered for Kate and the crowd for the Black Dragons cheered for the Black Dragon member as Kate and her opponent bowed after they were told they can start.
(in the video skip to 7:15 & end it at 7:25. imagine kate as sam & sam's dad as the black dragon member)

The boy is the first one to take a swing at her with his no staff. Kate blocks the swing with her bo staff and from then on it seems like she might have a possibility of winning although a few times he had one-up her. Kate ended up on her knee to block a hit from the boy with her bo staff. She thought she had the upper hand, and she was about to hit the boy with her bo staff when the boy suddenly used his bo staff to sweep her leg out from under her. She fell over on her left side, landing on her left wrist in a bad way that made her wince. She groaned when she tried to move it. It hurt which made her guess she has a sprained wrist.
The boy ended up disqualified when the referee saw that Kate was holding her wrist in pain. Kate was disqualified as well since she couldn't fight with a sprained wrist. "Rina!" Jack yells, running onto the mat as the Black Dragon member walks back over to the bench. He kneels beside Kate, looking at her with concern. "Are you okay?"
"Got a sprained wrist, I think," Kate winces as she tries to move her wrist. "And I'm disqualified so no, Jackie, I'm not okay." Kate grumbled, glaring at the boy who made her fall.
"All that matters is that you're not seriously hurt." Jack reminds her. He helps her up onto her feet and he had an arm wrapped around her shoulders as they walked back over to the Wassabi Warriors side of the room.
"Kate!" Rudy looks at her worriedly upon seeing her cradle her left wrist carefully. "What happened? You were doing so good!"
"That Black Dragon jerk got me off guard and made me fell." Kate looks at the Black Dragon member she was fighting with and glares at him. "I landed on my hand in a wrong way." She looks at Jack, just then realizing his arm was wrapped around her shoulders, and for some reason butterflies swarmed in her stomach. She shakes her head. "Jack, now you are our last chance at getting that belt." She smiles at him. "You can do this."
Jack smiles brightly at her. "Thanks, Rina." He took his arm off her shoulders and then walked out into the mat. Kate sat down on the bench between Rudy and Milton, still cradling her wrist carefully.
Rudy throws an arm around her shoulders, looking at he with concern as she looks at him. "You sure you gonna be okay?"
Kate reassuringly smiles at him and nods. "Yeah, it's just a sprained wrist, I think, which sucks, but I'm just glad I don't get hurt worse."
A relieved expression forms on Rudy's face and he nods. "Yeah, me too." He looks nervous as he says, "But are you gonna tell your parents that you got hurt under my watch or am I?"
Kate laughs a bit. "I'll tell them and make sure they go easy on you since it wasn't your fault."
Rudy smiles and squeezes her arm. "Thanks, Kat." Kate smiled brightly upon hearing the nickname only he called her. Rudy had called her Kat ever since she was born despite the fact that when she got older she decided on going by Kate. But she didn't mind when Rudy called her that, it's only when anyone else who call her that does she get mad.
"And don't worry, you won't have to move back in with your parents." Kate assures him. She gestures with a nod of her head to Jack, who now stood on the mat facing his opponent who happened to be Kim. "We still got a chance to win that belt. Jack is doing the vertical peg kick and I'm sure he's gonna do great."
"I hope you're right." Rudy spoke, taking his arm off of her shoulders.
"Here you go, honey." Kate looks behind her at Marge when the dark-skinned woman handed her ice pack wrapped in a towel most likely so it's not that cold to the touch. "I got some from the medical room here. Thought you might need it for your wrist."
Kate smiles, gratefully taking the towel covered ice pack, and gently placed it on her left wrist. "Thank you, Marge, you're the best."
Marge smiles and flips her hair over her shoulder. "Oh, I know. But you're welcome."
Kate giggles a bit and then turns her attention back to Jack and Kim when Kim spoke. "I was hoping we would be on the same team, Jack." Kim said, bowing along with Jack when the referee told them to start. She smirks. "But now I'm going to have to take you down."
Jack grins. "You know, I think you have a little crush on me."
Kim looks at him with disgust, shaking her head. "Ew, no."
"Yeah," Jack nods, switching places with Kim which means he now stood where Kim was standing, and Kim is standing where he stood. "I think you do." Jack backed up, standing near where the Black Dragons sat, so he could have enough room to make a running start. But then Frank stood up and did a low kick to the back of Jack's right leg, causing the brunette-haired boy to yelp in pain and fall.
Kate immediately stood up, worry filling her as she rushed onto the mat with Rudy and her friends. "Oh, no, he didn't!" Marge shouted, clearly upset about what Frank did and Kate knew she would've taken down Frank if it wasn't for the cop who held her back.
Rudy and the Wasabi Warriors kneeled around Jack, all looking at him with concern. Kate looks at Frank with a glare when she saw he was cheering. "Frank, that is so wrong." Ty tells him. "You are banished from this dojo!" Frank looks at him with surprise and Ty points at the exit. "Banished, I say!"
The referee came over and pulled Frank away. Jack was now sitting up a bit, but was mostly leaning on his left side, and he couldn't move his right leg. "Rudy, I can't get up."
"Yes, you can." Rudy encourages. "You're the champ." He leans forward, putting his hands on Jack's shoulders and shakes Jack a bit. "You gotta get up. You gotta get up, champ!"
"Dude," Kate rolls her eyes, reaching over to hit the back of Rudy's head with her good hand. "He can't get up 'cause you're kneeling on his leg."
Rudy's eyes widen and he quickly gets up, sending an apologetic look to Jack. "Oh, sorry. My bad." Jerry and Rudy help Jack stand up as Eddie, Kate, and Milton stood up. With Jerry's and Rudy's help Jack limped over to the bench with his friends following him.
"Okay, scorpion, go kick out that peg so we can say goodbye to Bobby Wasabi forever." Ty said to Kim.
Kim glances at the Wasabi Warriors, biting her lower lip. Two of their members had gotten hurt of them and she didn't want to be a part of a dojo that would hurt other dojos. "I'm not doing it." She shakes her head, looking back at Ty. "I quit."
Kate turns her attention to Kim when she heard the blonde say that and a surprised look formed on her face. Ty looks at the blonde-haired girl with wide eyes. "What?"
Kim shakes her head, glaring at Ty. "You're nothing but a cheater and a big baby."
"Nuh-uh." Ty responds sassily and it was clear he's trying to fight tears from escaping. He frowns and exclaims. "Take that back!" He stomps his foot like a toddler would when they have a tantrum. "Take that back!"
Kim rolled her eyes, untied the black belt around her waist. "Oh, don't," Ty pleads, covering his mouth with wide eyes. "Don't-" He pouts when Kim threw the black belt on the ground. "Ugh, really?"
"You sure you can do this with an injured ankle?" Kate asked Jack, looking at him with worry when he stood up, using Rudy as help by putting a hand on his shoulder.
Jack nods, glancing at her with a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, Rina. I'll be fine." He glances at the high wooden peg he would have to kick with a nervous glance. "I hope." Kate smiled and nodded, but the smile fell when Jack limped onto the mat, and she nervously fiddled with the sleeve of her gi she wore.
"So, are you sure you're able to do this?" Kim questioned, looking at Jack with concern.
Jack shakes his head with a worried look on his face. "I don't know."
"Your whole dojo's counting on you." Kim reminded him, looking at him with a smile.
Jack glances at her, tilting his head to the side. "If I do it, will you admit you have a crush on me?"
Kim raises her arms in frustration and exclaims, "I do not have a crush on you!" Jack raised his hands up in defense and turned his attention to the high wooden peg he would have to kick.
Kate laughs a bit and Kim glances at her with furrowed eyebrows. "They say denial is the first step of having a crush on someone." Kate said to her, looking at her with a teasing smile.
The rest of the crowd rooting for the Wasabi Warriors hummed in agreement, looking at Kim as if they didn't believe what she said. Kim glared at them and did a karate move with her arm to threaten them to stay quiet. The crowd all leaned backwards when she did that. Kim sat down on the bench beside the Wasabi Warriors, and they all turned their attention to Jack, who had moved backward near the bench his team sat on so he could have room.
"I can't believe Jack is going to launch on one foot." Milton comments. He smiles and shakes his head. "That's one bad mama jama."
Kate's eyes widen in realization while she watched Jack raise his arms and got in the stance to do this karate move. Eddie must've realized it as well because he says, "He's not launching off his foot. He's launching off his hands."
Kate nods. "No one but one other person has ever done that before."
"That's right." Rudy nods, looking at Jack with a smile. "By a man named Bobby Wasabi."
Eddie, Jerry, and Milton look at Jack with an awe-struck expression. "Woah."
Jack glances at his friends and looks at the high wooden peg with a determined expression. When he did the karate moved, it seemed like everything was in slow motion. Jack kicked the peg so hard it flew off its stand and over the crowd, ending up hitting Milton's dad hard enough to make him fall.
Kate is the first to stand up and cheer loudly, quickly followed by everyone else who were rooting for the Wasabi Warriors. She ran onto the man with her team to congratulate Jack. Jack was sitting on the floor with a wide grin on his face and he raised his fist up in victory. Kate had sat her ice pack on the bench before she went over to Jack and when he reached a hand up for someone to help him, with her good hand she helped him up.
She was confused at why she felt her heartbeat increase when she grabbed Jack's hand, but she ignored that feeling and continued to help Jack up along with the help of Jerry and Milton. Rudy held the yellow belt the referee had given him, grinning at his students, happy they have their two belts they needed.
"We got our belts!" Rudy shouts with a grin on his lips. He and Milton help Jack stand with their arms wrapped around Jack's shoulders and Jack had his arms wrapped around their shoulders, doing his best not to put any pressure on his injured ankle. "We got our belts!" Rudy yelled excitedly.
"The dojo is saved!" Kate cheered, wrapping her arms around Rudy's waist and Jerry's waist since she stood between them. Jerry had his arms wrapped around her shoulders and Eddie's shoulder and Eddie had his arm wrapped around Jerry's shoulders while they all celebrated.
Ty stands up with an upset expression on his face. "I hate Bobby Wasabi!" He clapped twice before walking away with his students following him.
"Come on, guys." Rudy smiles at his students. "We're going home."
"Yeah, we are!" Kate grinned.
"You know what I'm feeling?" Jerry inquired, glancing at his friends with a grin.
Jack nods and smiles. "I think we're all feeling it."
They all let go of each other and at the same time they did the same front kick as they cheered.
****
The next day the gang were at the dojo. Kate had to wear a cast on her wrist, and she couldn't do karate for a few days for her wrist to heal which sucked, but she still hung out at the dojo and helped them out the best she could. She wasn't the only one who couldn't do karate for a few days. Jack had to wear an ankle support brace for his right ankle. They both were healing, it would just take some time.
"Okay, guys." Jack said, throwing around an apple. "Come on, let's get to work, alright?"
From her place sitting on a bench near the lockers, Kate looks up from her Percy Jackson book to look at Jack, and chuckles. "Says the one throwing an apple."
Jack looks at her, playfully rolling his eyes and playfully mocked her. His eyes widen when he was having trouble catching the apple and he leaned forward to catch it. He missed, but he saw someone else had caught it with their foot. Like what he did the first day in the cafeteria at school with Kim's apple she dropped. He looked up to see who the person is, surprised to see Kim.
Kim kicks the apple up and catches it, smiling at Jack. "Kim, what are you doing here?" Jack asked her.
Kate glances over at the two when she heard him say that and she smiles upon seeing the blonde-haired girl. "I quit the Black Dragon." Kim shrugged and Kate's smile widened. She thought maybe Kim wanted to join the Wasabi Warriors and she was fine with that. Kate always wanted another girl to join the dojo. She loved the boys, but they were a lot to handle, and it would be nice to have another girl at the dojo.
"You guys were alright at the tournament," Kim comments. "But from the way I see it, you need all the help you can get." She handed the apple back to Jack and he took it, looking at her with a smile.
Jerry walks over along with Eddie and Milton, shaking his head. "Woah, woah, woah. You're gonna just walk in here and assume you're gonna be a part of our dojo?" He smirks, crossing his arms as he stands in front of Kim. "You have to pass a test."
Kim shrugs, acting as if that wasn't hard. "Okay." She moved over to three dummies nearby and within a few seconds she knocked each of them down.
Kate's eyes widen. "Wow."
Kim flips her blonde hair over her shoulder, smiling at Kate and the boys as she put her hands on her hips. Jerry looks back at Kate and the other three boys and Kate could tell he was a bit intimidated by Kim which made her chuckle. "What do you think, guys?" Jerry asked them.
"She's in." Jack smiled, putting a hand on his hip.
Eddie nods. "Got my vote."
"A+." Milton chimed in.
"Yes!" Kate cheers. She grins at Kim. "Finally another girl in the dojo!" Kim smiled brightly at Kate and the boys, happy they let her join the dojo.
