CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN, new jack city
Kate sat next to Jack at a booth in Falafel Phil's with their friends, they sat close enough their shoulders and thighs were touching. Their hands were intertwined under the table as they all laughed and chatted together. Eddie sat next to the couple at the same booth, Milton and Kim sat across from them, Jerry sat at a chair he pulled up to the booth and Ashton had done the same across from him and by Kim. After noticing the time, Eddie glanced back at his friends.
"Hey, it's almost time, change the channel."
Milton, who had grabbed the remote, changes the channel which caused Jerry to frown at him. "Yo! what are you doing, man? I was just watching my favorite cartoon 'Worm With a Perm'. You know what it's about?" He grinned, crossing his arms and resting them on the back of the chair.
"A Worm With a Perm?" Kim asked, her voice laced with amusement.
"Oh, you watch it too." Jerry replied, sounding surprised and Kim rolled her eyes.
"Here we go. They're about to announce who's gonna be in the annual, California Battle Of The Dojos." Eddie explained, smiling as he looked at the TV along with his friends. Kate and Jack turned to face the TV eagerly, they were just as excited to find out if they would be in it as their friends were.
"Should we go get Rudy?" Milton questioned.
"No, no. Every year he comes in a disguise because he can't handle the embarrassment when our dojo doesn't get in. Trust me, he's around here somewhere." Jerry leans back, glancing around the restaurant until his gaze landed on an old woman sitting by herself. "Ah." He nods with a grin, pointing at the woman. "There he is."
"Jerry, I don't think-"
"No, no." Kim interrupts Jack. "Let him go." Kate chuckled, shaking her head and leaning into Jack a bit more as he moved to wrap his arm around her shoulders instead. The group glance over at Jerry, watching his interaction with the old woman.
"Look," Jerry sighs, putting his hands in his pockets. "I know you're ashamed, but we both know how this is gonna end. So why don't you say we hit the mats and get our sweat on, eh?" In response, the old woman hits him with her empty tray. Jerry yelped, trying to cover his face with his arms as he began to back away. But the old woman followed him and continued to hit him with the tray until Jerry ran away.
Kate is surprised when Rudy walks in, dressed as himself. She expected him to dress in a disguise but he wasn't. "No disguise this year, Rudy?" Milton asked.
"Nope," Rudy takes Jerry's place at the table with a smile. "I'm a grown man and I'm going to accept the fact that my dojo is what it is."
"That's great." Milton smiles. "You don't need this tournament to feel good about yourself. You got plenty to be proud of."
"Like what?" Rudy questioned curiously, perking up a bit. He glanced around the table with furrowed eyebrows when everyone stayed silent.
"Being my cousin?" Kate finally spoke up with a sheepish look, unsure of how to answer.
"Yeah, I guess there's that too." Rudy agreed, nodding slowly.
"Man, I hope we get into this tournament." Milton murmured.
Then Sensei Ty of the Black Dragons and some Black Dragon members walk into the restaurant, causing Jack to roll his eyes. "Oh, great. Sensei Ty and some of the Black Dragons just showed up."
"They get into this tournament every year." Kim sighed.
"And then they brag about it which is really annoying." Kate added, her voice filled with annoyance. She hated how obnoxious the Black Dragons were about getting into the tournament. Rudy got up and walked over to Ty, looking at him with annoyance.
"What are you doing here, Ty? Did you just come here to gloat?" He inquired.
Ty smirks and unzips his jacket, revealing the many medals and belts he and his dojo had won in the past. "Little bit." He sighed.
"Oh, they're making the announcement." Eddie notices. "Turn it up." He told Milton. Milton nodded and turned the volume up as everyone turned to face the TV.
"Our first competitor to the Battle Of The Dojos...Is the Black Dragons." The announcer spoke.
Ty smirks. "Pff, ten years in a row, people. That's an even dozen."
As they walk away, the group turns their attention back to the TV. "And the final competitor..."
Rudy closes his eyes and mutters to himself, "Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry."
"The Bobby Wasabi Dojo!" The announcer exclaimed.
The group immediately started cheering loudly, grinning happily. "Jack, you know what this means? You're gonna be on TV representing our dojo!" Kim gushed.
"Let's go celebrate, guys! Come on!" Jack suggested excitedly, standing up with a grin.
Everyone cheered again and quickly stood up, following him out of the restaurant. Kate was ecstatic, she was beyond happy and excited. This meant a lot to them all. It's not every day that a dojo like theirs makes it into the Battle Of The Dojos. This is a huge accomplishment and a major step forward for their dojo. Though she had to admit she was a bit jealous Jack would be the one representing the dojo, why couldn't she represent the dojo? She knew that the person to represent the dojo had to be skilled in all the techniques, especially the bo staff. She and Jack were the only ones of the dojo who were skilled with the bo staff, but why couldn't she represent the Bobby Wasabi Dojo?
****
Kate stood by Rudy at the dojo later that day as she, Rudy, Ashton, Eddie, and Milton watched Jack practice a move. "Nailed it! Awesome! Just awesome." Rudy grinned.
"Jack, you truly are the wind beneath this dojo's wings." Milton commented.
"Of course everyone knows that I'm the wings, which are the most important part of the bird." Rudy quickly added.
"I guess I'm kind of like a feather." Eddie smiled.
"You're not part of the bird at all." Rudy argues, causing the others to look at him with shock. Kate elbows him roughly in the side, causing him to wince. "But keep trying. You're doing great, son." He told him and Eddie smiled happily.
"So, Rudy, why is Jack the one representing the dojo?" Kate questions, deciding to bring up the topic. "Can't I do it? I'm skilled with the bo staff too and just as good as him."
"Kate, you're just as good as him." Rudy agrees. "But-"
"Yo, Rudy! Guess who's back?" Jerry called out excitedly as he rushed into the dojo, unknowingly interrupting Rudy. "One of the coolest guys ever to step foot in this dojo."
Kate's eyes widen with surprise when she saw Carson Hunter rush into the room, carrying Kim piggy back style. She couldn't believe Carson was back. It's been so long since she saw him. "What? I don't believe it. Carson Hunter?" Rudy gasps, smiling wide as he walked over to him with the others. Carson helped Kim down and did a bro hug with Rudy. "What are you doing? Haven't seen you in forever."
Jack is left off to the side, watching the group with confusion as they greet the boy. He has no idea who this Carson is, but he definitely didn't like it when his hug with Kate lingered a little too long. "Hello?" He calls out, trying to get their attention. He tries again since no one was listening to him. "Hello?" He tries once more, but louder. "Hello!" He calls out, raising his voice and putting his hands on his hips. Finally they stop talking and glance over at him. He smiles and walks over to Carson. "Hey, man. I'm Jack. Kate's boyfriend." He added the last part just so the boy knew she was taken. He couldn't help but feel a bit possessive.
"Ah, so he's the boyfriend you were talking about." Carson grinned, looking at Kate who blushed and looked down. She didn't think he would actually remember. Carson chuckled lightly at her response and smiled at Kate and throws an arm around her shoulder as she talked.
"Yeah, that's him." Kate replied, looking back at Jack with a fond smile.
Jack's jaw clenches when he saw Carson wrap his arm around her shoulders. His heart flutter at her response and her smile she sent him, but he couldn't help but be jealous. "Yeah, uh, who are you?" He grabbed Kate's hand to gently pull her over to him, away from Carson. He wrapped his arm around her waist, holding her close to him. He tried to make it subtle, but he knew the others noticed. He couldn't help it, though, Carson seemed a bit too friendly with his girlfriend. Kate rolled her eyes slightly, but she still leaned into his warm embrace and wrapped her arm around his waist. She knew he was jealous, she understood why and it was actually cute to see him jealous. It made her feel special. Her heart had fluttered when Jack pulled her close to him, holding her against him.
Carson chuckles, knowing what Jack is thinking. "Calm down, lover boy, I'm not here for your girl. I wouldn't do that." Jack wasn't sure if he believed him, but he had to trust Kate. If she trusted Carson, then he should too. Jack nodded slowly in response, his grip loosening on Kate. He had to admit, he didn't seem too bad. But still, he was suspicious.
"Jack is like the new version of you." Milton explained to Carson.
"Jack Brewer." Carson smiles at him, shaking Jack's hand. "I've heard a lot about you."
"Darn right you have. Jack is a second degree black belt with a foundation of Tae Kwon Do and Jin-jitsu." Rudy smiled proudly.
"And he was voted best hair in ninth grade." Eddie added.
"Oh, come on, dude." Jack chuckles, resting his elbow on Rudy's shoulder. "Eighth grade too." He smirked.
"Because of Jack, we just got into the Battle Of The Dojos." Kim smiled.
"So, you used to be a student here, huh?" Jack questioned.
"Carson was actually my first student." Rudy explained and Jack nodded in realization.
"Uh, I was actually here two weeks before-"
"Like I said, you're doing great." Rudy interrupts Eddie, who shrugged and Carson patted his shoulder to comfort him. "Carson was actually the youngest student in California to earn his black belt."
"Hey, man, I'm Ashton." Ashton speaks up, smiling at Carson and shaking his hand. "I recently joined the dojo." He explained.
Carson nods in response, smiling at him as he shakes Ashton's hand. "Nice to meet you, Ashton. Kim told me a lot about you."
"Really?" Ashton asked curiously, his heart fluttering at that statement and he could feel his face grow warm. He glanced over at Kim, who had a shy smile on her face and was blushing. Ashton's smile grew and he looked down, trying to contain his happiness.
"Well, yeah, I was just telling him about you...And the others also." Kim stammered out, her blush deepening and she glanced away, not wanting to meet Ashton's gaze.
"Aww, I knew you guys liked me." Ashton teased.
"Oh, shut up." Kim rolled her eyes, but she had a smile on her face.
"Oh, man. This place brings back a lot of memories." Carson said softly, glancing around the dojo with a smile. He glances at the others with a grin. "Remember when Rudy threw his back out in the middle of a horse stance?" He then does the stance and imitates Rudy. "'I don't care if you're twelve, somebody drive me to the hospital.'"
Kate couldn't help the small giggle that left her lips as he did this. She remembered that moment clearly. It was after she and her dad had moved to Seaford, she had been there for a few months already when that moment happened one day. It was pretty funny. She could never forget it. Kate noticed though Jack looked a bit left out as the others commented and laughed about that moment. She felt bad for him, she couldn't imagine how he was feeling.
"Oh, you guys remember the other day?" Jack asks. "He caught his pinky toe in the mat and was all like, 'I broke my piggie. I think I broke my piggie!'" He laughed, but stopped and his face fell when the others stared at him with unamused looks.
"Too soon, Jack. Too soon." Jerry told him with a cringed expression.
Kate sends a sympathetic look to Jack and squeezes his side gently to comfort him. "So, Carson, how long are you staying?" Jack inquired, wanting to change the topic. He appreciated Kate's comforting gesture. He sent her a small grateful smile, leaning down to kiss the side of her head and earning a shy small smile from her. He glanced at Carson, hoping to shift the focus away from the awkwardness of his last comment.
"Oh, his dad actually just got transferred back to Seaford." Jerry replied.
"He just enrolled in school here and he's rejoining the dojo!" Kim said excitedly. While the others are more excited about this news, Kate noticed Jack didn't seem very thrilled about it. She couldn't blame him though. If she were him, she would probably feel the same.
"Hey, why don't we all go over to Circus Burger like told times?" Carson suggested.
"That's cool. We-We usually just go over to Falafel Phil's now." Jack responded with a forced smile.
"So Falafel Phils it is." Carson grins as everyone agrees. He then glances at Kim, getting in the stance ready for a piggy back ride. "Kim?" Kim smiled brightly and jumped on his back, wrapping her arms around his neck as he ran out of the dojo.
Kate stays back with Jack as the others go after them. "Jack, are you okay?" She asked softly, looking at him with concern.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine." Jack smiles reassuringly, pulling away from her to intertwine their hands together. "Don't worry, I'm fine. Why don't we catch up with the others?" Kate hesitated but nodded, following him out of the dojo. She didn't really believe him, she could tell something was bothering him. But she decided to just let it go for now.
****
At school the next day, Kate was in the hallway with her friends in between classes. She and Ashton leaned against the wall as they talked when Carson went over to one of the lockers with a grin, glancing over at Jerry. "Hey, Jerry! You remember this?" He moved the lock of the locker rhythmically while stomping his foot to the beat.
"Oh, dude! That used to be our thing!" Jerry grinned. He went over to his locker to pull out some drum sticks and began to hit them on his locker in rhythm. The others joined them with making a cool beat with things in school, like for example Kim had used an empty water jug on a janitor cart and Eddie used a broom. Ashton and Kate still stayed leaning against the wall since they hadn't been here when they came up with this, but they were enjoying the beat. The students in the hallway had now crowded around, listening to the beat and clearly enjoying it.
Jack had been walking down the hallway when he saw this and he wanted to join so he tried with the lids of the trash cans. But he was clanging them together out of rhythm, causing everyone to grimace and the others to stop what they were doing. Kate pushes herself off the wall with a grimace and sympathy as she walks over to him. She grabs his wrists to get him to stop. "I love you, but please stop."
Jack smiles sheepishly and puts the lids back down. The crowd of student began to disperse, and everyone went back to what they were doing. "Way to go, Jack." Milton sighed.
"We were sounding good too." Eddie commented as he walked away with the others.
"Thank you for stopping." Kate chuckles, reaching over to intertwine their hands together. "So are you excited about Rockchella?" She asked curiously, smiling at him. She and Jack had planned on going together along with some of their friends.
"About that, I can't go with you." Jack sighs. "I gotta practice for the tournament. I'm sorry. Maybe you can find someone else to go with you." He suggested, handing his ticket to her.
"I don't wanna go without you." Kate frowns. She was so excited for Rockchella, it's one of her favorite festivals. But it wouldn't be anywhere near as fun without Jack with her. "I'll just give these tickets to someone else."
"But you were so excited about going." Jack points out. "I don't want you to miss this because of me. You should go." He didn't want her to miss out on the fun because of him.
"You're more important than going to a festival." Kate smiles softly and kisses his cheek. "I'm fine with not going if it means supporting you and your training. We'll find another time to go together, okay?"
Jack's heart swells with love for Kate as he looks into her eyes. "You're amazing, you know that?"
Kate blushes at his words, feeling warm and giddy inside. "And you're worth it."
"Are you still upset about not representing the dojo?" Jack asks softly, remembering seeing the look on her face yesterday. "Because really if you want to be the one to represent the dojo, I'll talk to Rudy. I don't mind letting you take my place."
Kate shakes her head and smiles softly, her heart warming at Jack's offer. "No, it's okay. I appreciate it, but I don't want to take that opportunity away from you. You've been training so hard for this, and I'm proud of you. Plus, you're better at handling the pressure than I am." She admitted. She would be lying if she said she wasn't jealous and upset. But she really was happy for Jack and he deserved this. And she wasn't lying when she said he did better under the pressure. Jack always seemed to be more confident and collected when facing something like this while she would panic and overthink things. She knew Jack did that too, but he did better with not showing it.
"Kate, you are more than capable of handling the pressure. You're strong and I'm confident you could handle this, but if you're sure about letting me do this then I will. But just know that I'm here to support you no matter what." Jack assured her, squeezing her hand gently.
"Thank you, Jack." Kate smiles gratefully, leaning in to give him a quick kiss. "I appreciate your support more than you know."
"Anytime, Kate." Jack returns her smile, wrapping his arm around her shoulders as they walk down the hallway together. "We're a team, remember?"
Kate nods, feeling reassured by his words. "Yeah, we are." She leans into his side, feeling grateful to have him by her side. "And I wouldn't want it any other way." As the couple chatted with each other while walking down the hallway, they didn't see Carson had listened in on their conversation and he had an idea forming in his mind. He just needed to get Jack out of the picture.
****
Kate was currently sitting on a bench in the dojo, reading a book as Jack practiced his moves for the tournament and Rudy was instructing him on what to do. She was lost in her own world of reading, but she still watched Jack practice out of the corner of her eye. He was looking really good and she knew he was going to kill it at the tournament. She looked over when she heard footsteps and saw Ashton, Kim, and Carson walk in.
"Hey, guys." Kate greets, looking up from her book with a smile. "Did you have fun at Rockchella?"
"Oh, it was awesome." Kim gushes, grinning at her. "Thank you, Kate, for giving me the tickets you and Jack couldn't use. It was a lot of fun." She looked at Kate with a grateful smile.
"No problem." Kate smiles back at her. "I'm glad you had fun."
"It was sweet of you to give the tickets to us, Kate." Carson smiles and then notices the book she had been reading. "Oh, man, I loved that book. What chapter are you on?" He sat down next to her, looking over her shoulder at the page she was on.
Kate's face brightened as he does this, liking the fact that he enjoyed the book too. She didn't really have a lot of people who liked the books she did. But she didn't realize how close he was sitting as they talked about the book. Jack glanced over and his jaw clenched when he saw Carson and Kate sitting so close, their faces only a few inches apart. He could see the smiles on their faces as they talked and their laughter, and he couldn't help but feel a pang in his chest. He couldn't hear their conversation, but he didn't want to.
"Look, guys, I hate to interrupt this little book club of yours, but I have to get back to practicing." Jack spoke up, interrupting their conversation as he walked over to where Kate and Carson were sitting. He tried to keep his tone light, but there was an underlying tension in his voice.
Carson glances up at Jack with a smirk, seemingly unfazed by his presence. "Oh, sure thing, Jack. Wouldn't want to distract you from your big tournament." He replied casually, though there was a hint of something in his tone that Jack couldn't quite place that made his eyes narrow. Especially when he noticed he still remained sitting close to Kate, who sent him an encouraging smile that made him relax slightly.
"Jack's right. We should probably get back to work." Rudy agreed. Jack got back on the mat with the bo staff and continued practicing the moves.
"Looking good, Jack. You're probably the best man for the job." Carson commented.
Jack pauses at hearing that, glancing over at him with furrowed eyebrows. "What do you mean by 'probably'? Kate and I are the only people here who work with a bo staff and she reassured me she was fine with me representing the dojo."
"Actually, I do too. But you know what? You've already put the work in, so you take this tournament and I'll take the next one. Or Kate will. It doesn't matter, there's plenty of tournaments to go around." Carson replied, getting up from his place by Kate to stand in front of Jack.
Jack raises his eyebrows at him. "No. No, no, no. If you use a bo staff, then we should see what you've got."
"What are you saying, Jack?" Rudy asked him, looking confused.
"I'm saying this tournament isn't about me. It's about finding the best student to represent this dojo. So, if your old friend here uses a bo staff then we should spar." Jack suggested.
"Jack, I don't know if that'd be fair." Kim chimes in. "I mean, you've been practicing with a bo staff for months."
"No, no, no, no. I may be a little rusty, but I can handle a bo staff." Carson said reassuringly.
"Hey, guys." Ashton greets the others as Milton, Jerry, and Eddie walked in. "Just in time to see Jack and Carson spar."
"If Jack wants to see what I've got, let's do it." Carson decided.
"Great." Jack says. "Winner represents the dojo in the tournament."
Kate watches the interaction, biting her lip anxiously. She had a feeling that this wasn't going to go well. Carson went over to grab a bo staff before the two boys took their place on the mat and Rudy took his place as the ref. After Rudy called them to start the match, the two began sparring. It was an equal fight, both boys were clearly talented and they seemed pretty matched up. But Carson ended up winning, splitting Jack's bo staff in half and knocking him to the ground.
Kate couldn't help the gasp that left her lips as she watched. Jack had never been defeated like that before. She couldn't help but feel worried, she didn't want him to get hurt. She could tell by his face that Jack felt defeated and looked surprised.
"Holy Christmas nuts!" Milton gasps. "Jack's lost!"
"Looks like I'll be representing the dojo." Carson smirked.
****
The next day Kate found herself sitting next to Jack at a booth at Falafel Phil's. He was talking about how he found it suspicious that Carson had won. "Guys, I've been doing martial arts for years and bo staffs don't' just snap like that. I mean, he shattered it."
"Pff, yeah, he did!" Milton gushes and then grimaces at the looks everyone gave him. "I mean, a dang shame is what it is."
Jack groans. "I've just been thinking about it over and over again. Something just wasn't right."
"Look, Jack, I know you're embarrassed about losing." Jerry said and everyone looked at him expectantly, thinking he would say something else.
"Go on." Jack encouraged.
"Oh, no, that was it." Jerry admitted.
"Great pep talk, Jer." Kate sarcastically commented, taking a sip of her drink.
"I know you guys know Carson better than I do but...Is it possible that he cheated?" Jack wonders, looking around at the others. "I mean, think about it. He didn't use one of our bo staffs. Maybe his was, I don't know, weighted or something?"
"Weighted bo staff? Okay." Jerry said in a high pitched voice, looking like Jack was crazy.
"Come on, Jack. I know it's hard not being top dog anymore, but there's no shame in being number two." Eddie reassured Jack.
Jerry chuckles. "Number two." He chuckled along with Ashton.
"You know what? I'm sure he didn't cheat. Forget I said anything." Jack sighed.
"Hey, we should go, it's time for practice." Milton suggested after seeing the time on the clock on the wall.
"Yeah, let's go." Km agreed, standing up and joining the others to head out.
"I'll catch up with you guys." Jack called out. Kate was about to follow the others, but she stayed behind after seeing Jack's troubled expression. She sat back down next to him, concern evident in her eyes.
"Hey, Jack, are you okay? You seem really bothered by what happened with Carson." She said softly, placing a hand on his arm gently.
Jack sighs, running a hand through his hair in frustration. "I don't know, Kate. It's just...Why do I have the feeling he didn't beat me fair and square? There's just something not right here."
Kate had to admit she agreed with him. It was a bit suspicious. But she wasn't sure why. She had known Carson was a good fighter, and she could see he was very skilled with a bo staff. She just didn't understand how he was able to snap Jack's bo staff in half like that. Jack was right, Carson did shatter the bo staff in half. She never seen that happened before. Well, besides the times she had seen people use weighted bo staffs. She didn't really know what to think.
"Yeah, that's really suspicious. I agree, I think there was something going on. I've never seen someone snap a bo staff like that before." Kate admits. "But maybe it was just a lucky hit?" She suggested, trying to offer a rational explanation.
Jack shakes his head with a sigh, pacing his hand over hers to intertwine their hands together and rest them on his leg. "I don't know, I mean I know he's skilled. But...I don't know. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I have a feeling he's hiding something."
"It is weird. If you're being paranoid then so am I. We'll figure it out together, okay?" Kate assured him. She could see how upset he was and it worried her. She wanted to help him get through this and if Carson really was cheating, she would help him expose him. She squeezes his hand gently, offering him a reassuring smile.
Jack looks at Kate gratefully, feeling a wave of comfort wash over him. "Thanks, Kate. I don't know what I'd do without you." He said softly as he leaned over to kiss her cheek. "You always know what to say to make me feel better." As Jack leaned over to kiss Kate's cheek, she couldn't help but feel a flutter of warmth in her chest. His words reassured her that she was making a difference, even in the midst of uncertainty. She returned his smile, feeling a sense of closeness and solidarity between them.
"Hey, lovebirds." The couple looks over, surprised to see Ty slide into the booth across from them. They share a look before glancing back at the sensei of Black Dragons. "Spare a baba ganoush pepper?"
"If you like them extra spicy." Kate shrugged. Not many people liked them the way she, Jack, and their friends got them.
"Yeah, be careful with those." Jack warned, but Ty only laughed, not seeming to be fazed.
"Black belt, black dragon, dragons breathe fire. Check it." Ty picks one up and takes a bite of it. "Mmm. You know, Jack, with the-Wow! My face is on fire!" He interrupted himself as the spice kicked in. He grabbed his drink and immediately began drinking it.
Kate and Jack watches with amusement as he gulps down his drink. "We warned you." Kate shrugged as she watched Ty's reaction with a mixture of amusement and sympathy.
"What do you want, Ty?" Jack questioned, getting straight to the point.
"I want you, Jack." Ty tells him. He glances at Kate and points at her. "You too. Both of you." He admits, looking between the two. "I couldn't help but overhear you're unhappy with the Bobby Wasabis. We could really use someone with both of your skills to represent the Black Dragons. And unlike Rudy, when it comes to my students, I am loyal 'till the end."
Kate scoffs at that, rolling her eyes. She knew Rudy wasn't perfect, but he was a good person and she believed in him. And she couldn't help but feel anger rise up in her as Ty tried to insult her cousin. And she didn't believe Ty at all, she knew jack didn't either. Ty wasn't really loyal to his students.
"Really? Where's your number one student, Frank?" Jack inquired.
"You two are so much better than Frank." Ty responded in an obvious tone. Kate responded in an obvious tone.
Kate raises her eyebrows at him, looking at him skeptically. "Doesn't seem like you're that loyal if you're willing to talk down about your own students."
Ty chuckles, seemingly unbothered by Kate's comment. "Frank was good, but let's be real. You two have something special. I'm offering you both a chance to showcase your skills where they'll be truly appreciated."
"I don't know about Kate, but I'm not switching dojos." Jack tells him firmly. "There's no way I'd ever fight for the Black Dragons." Jack had taken a strong stance, and Kate felt a wave of relief wash over her. She gave Jack's hand a reassuring squeeze, appreciating his loyalty to Rudy and their dojo.
"Me too." Kate agrees, firmly siding with Jack. "We're loyal to Rudy and the Wasabi Warriors. We're not going anywhere." She said confidently. She wouldn't betray Rudy, or their friends. She couldn't believe Ty had the nerve to ask her and Jack to join the Black Dragons. She had no intention of joining them, no matter what Ty said. She was a Wasabi Warrior through and through. While yes sometimes she does feel like she doesn't fit in or isn't good enough, but the Wasabi Warriors were her family. They were all she needed.
"Oh, that's too bad. Because if you fought for us you could exact your revenge on the kid who replaced you. Restore your reputation and most importantly, our gi's would really make your eyes pop." Ty adds, smirking at the two teens. "And Kate, you'd be a great addition to the team. You'd have the chance to shine. To prove your worth. To make a name for yourself. You wouldn't be stuck in the shadows anymore." He tried to convince them, clearly desperate to sway them with promises and flattery.
Kate's eyes narrow at Ty's attempt to manipulate them. "You think you can just sweet-talk us into betraying our friends and dojo? Nice try, but we're not interested in trading loyalty for some flashy uniforms or empty promises. Our loyalty lies with the Wasabi Warriors. Nothing you can say will change that." She got up, grabbing her drink and walked out of the restaurant with Jack following her.
A/N at first i kinda liked carson when i first watched this episode but i quickly changed my mind about him & now I dont like him at all but anyway kate & jack are so cute, i love them so much !!
