CHAPTER TWENTY, it takes two to tangle

Kate stood next to Eddie, Jerry, and Milton, the three of them watching Jack as he broke three different boards. Ashton and Kim weren't there since Kim was busy with family and Ashton was working at his new job at Doctor Kicks which is a shoe store that's at the mall.

"Wow, Jack." Milton comments with surprise. He looks curious. "How do you do that?"

"It comes from inside me. It's my Kiai." Jack smirked.

"The boys in my family get their Kiais removed." Jerry said. "It's tradition." Kate and the others looked at him weirdly.

"A kiai is the sound you make when you release the power of your inner self." Jack explains. He smiles encouragingly. "Come on, guys. Free your inner beast!"

Kate goes first, acting as if she was hitting a board and shouts from her gut. "Kiai!"

Then Eddie went next. "Kiai!"

"Kiai!" Jerry grins. "Whoo!"

And then Milton was last. "Coo!"

Kate couldn't help the snicker that escaped her lips when Milton tried it. "It's not bad...But it's not good either." Kate admitted, sympathetically smiling at Milton.

"Your inner beast sounds like a sick dove." Jack commented.

"Gah!" Milton shouted in a frustrated tone and walked away.

"Oh! Are you and Rudy ready for the big sensei-student tournament this week?" Eddie asked Jack.

"Totally. And since I'll be competing with Rudy, I've been training my butt off." Jack replies. "Dude, our timing during the routine has to be perfect. You know how competitive he is."

"Yeah." Eddie nodded.

Kate scoffs, crossing her arms. "Those stupid sensei-student tournaments are dumb. I don't see the point of them."

Jack smiles at her with amusement. "Are you just upset 'cause I was picked to go instead of you?"

Kate pouts, her shoulders dropping in defeat. "Yes." Jack sympathetically smiled at her and rubbed her back to comfort her.

"Jack, I hope you're prepared for our trip to San Francisco." Rudy walks into the dojo, carrying a box. Jack removes his hand from Kate's back, walking over to Rudy along with his friends where Rudy sets the box on the floor. "Because I know I am." He looks at his cousin with a smile. "And Kat, I hope you're prepared for our trip too."

Kate glances at him with confusion. "Uh, why?"

"You're going with us." Rudy replies. "Someone needs to be the responsible one."

"You're the adult." Kate laughs. "Why don't you be the responsible one?"

"It's too hard." Rudy complained.

"Yeah, come with us." Jack encourages, throwing his arm around Kate's shoulders. He smiles at her. "It'll be more fun with you. Plus, you're my lucky charm."

Kate's eyes widen with surprise and she couldn't help how excited she sounded. "Really?"

Jack smiles softly and nods. "Of course. I always feel more confident at a tournament when you're there cheering me on."

"Okay, then I guess I'll go." Kate grinned, ignoring the way her heart fluttered because of the fact she's Jack's lucky charm.

Rudy smiles. "Great!" He then began rummaging through the box he had, deciding on changing the subject. He picks up some things from the box. "I found my rubber vomit and my deluxe whoopee cushion." Kate looked at him weirdly, wondering why he wanted to take those things with him.

"What makes it deluxe?" Eddie inquired.

Rudy presses the whoopee cushion and the four teens lean back with a disgusted expression on their face because of the smell. "The smell." Rudy smiled.

"Rudy, you're not taking this competition seriously." Jack furrows his eyebrows. "Don't you want to win?"

"Come on, let's just go and have fun." Rudy suggests. "Make some memories." He puts the stuff back in the box and picks up the box. "Road trip." He sang and walked to his office. Jack removed his arm from Kate's shoulders, walking over to pick up the broken board pieces as Eddie and Jerry sat on one of the benches and Kate sat on the other one across from them.

"Alright, see ya, guys." Milton said, walking back into the room. "I got a little pre-anniversary gift for Julie. I made a chocolate rose by hand."

Kate smiles. "Awe, that's sweet, Milton."

Milton smiles, taking out the rose from the box. He gasps, his eyes widening when he saw the rose part was gone. "What happened to my rose?"

Kate glances at Jerry, rolling her eyes when she saw he was eating it. "Wow, dude. It looks like someone ate the head off it." Jerry pointed out.

Milton looks at him with a glare. "My rose. My sweet rose." He starts to breathe heavy as his blood boils with anger and his friends watch him with concern. "Kiai!" He exclaimed, grabbing Jerry's arm and flipped him over onto the mat.

"Ow!" Jerry winced and whimpered when he landed on the mat.

Kate winces. "Oof. That gotta hurt." She smiles at Milton. "But Milton that Kiai was so much better! Good job."

Milton points down at Jerry, looking at him with a harsh glare. "You just met my inner beast!"

"Oh, dude." Jerry groans in pain. "Eddie ate some of your rose, too."

Milton growls, turning to face Eddie, who looks at him nervously. Kate's eyes widen when Eddie screamed while running out of the dojo with Milton right behind him. Kate stood up, walking over to Jerry to help him up, hoping that Milton wouldn't hurt Eddie badly.

****

"Awesome!" Kate said with a grin, following Rudy and Jack into their hotel room.

Rudy smiles from ear to ear. "Whoo."

"Oh, yeah." Jack laughed in disbelief.

"Look at this." Rudy grins, walking further into the room. "Pretty sweet, huh, guys?"

"Yeah, looks great." Kate smiled.

The three of them look over at the employee who carried their bags to their room when he sat their bags on the floor. "Uh...I think you left a bag out in the hall." Rudy pointed at the hallway.

The employee nods and walks out to the hallway. Kate quickly steps back out of the way, her eyes widening when Rudy ran over to the door, slamming it in the employee's face and even pushes a chair in front of it. "Well, that's one way getting out of tipping the employee." Kate chuckled.

"Nice room." Jack commented, glancing around the room with a smile.

"Yeah." Kate agrees, furrowing her eyebrows when she noticed something. "Wait, where are we all gonna sleep? There's only two beds."

"I'll obviously have one to myself." Rudy said in a duh tone, walking over to the bed by the window, and Kate rolled her eyes at him. "You guys can figure it out yourself."

"I can just sleep on the couch." Kate offered, glancing at Jack with a small smile as she pointed at the small couch in the room.

"No way." Jack argues. "Rina, we can just share the bed. It's not like we haven't slept on the same bed before. And the bed is big enough for both of us."

"Yeah, true." Kate nods. She sighs. "Alright, we can share the bed."

"Okay," Jack smiles. "Now that's figured out we'll unpack, have a great night's sleep then hit the ground running in the morning. I just need one drawer, you guys can have-"

"Don't need it." Rudy interrupted Jack.

Kate gapes at everything Rudy had brought with him. "How on Earth did all of that fit in that one duffle bag? Is that bag like Mary Poppins' purse?"

"I will never reveal my secret." Rudy dramatically replied.

Jack looks at Rudy with confusion when he saw Rudy had a satellite dish. "What are you doing?"

"These hotel movie prices are outrageous. That's why I always bring my own satellite dish." Rudy smiled.

Kate shakes her head, crossing her arms with a disappointed look on her face. "You really weren't kidding when you said you needed somebody on this trip to be the responsible one."

Jack sits on the bench in front of Rudy's bed while Kate moves to sit on the edge of her shared bed wtih Jack. "Are you sure that's a good idea?" Jack asked Rudy.

"The obvious answer is no." Kate replied.

"I do it all the time." Rudy chuckled, plugging the satellite dish into the TV.

Kate sighs heavily. "Of course you do."  She jumped, gasping out of shock when the satellite fell off the window ledge it was leaning on and the TV was dragged along with it. Jack stood, covering his mouth out of shock. Kate and Jack exchanged a shocked look when they heard a shattering sound, followed by a car alarm.

"Okay," Kate puts emphasis on the word 'okay, glaring over at Rudy. "Rudy apparently can't be trusted with anything. Alright, I'm gonna unpack and I call the first drawer." She then got up to unpack everything from her suitcase, only needing one drawer to fit everything. Since she and the boys were just going to be in San Francisco for one day she only needed to bring one set of clothes, one set of pjs, any accessories she wanted to wear and her toiletries items.

****

It was three am and while Jack and Kate were sleeping soundly, Rudy couldn't sleep. Which was why he was watching a movie with a new TV he had gotten. He was also eating a snack, but when he spot a different snack on the nightstand table on Kate's side of the bed he realized he wanted that instead.

Rudy set down the bowl he held and got off the bed. He leaned away from the wind chimes he hung up between his bed and Jack's and Kate's bed. Rudy had to climb over Jack and Kate to grab the snack since his stuff blocked the aisle between the beds. He somehow managed to didn't wake either of them up, being successful with grabbing the box of crackers. He climbed back over to get back to his bed, accidentally bumping into the wind chimes. He panicked, quickly grabbing the wind chimes to make them stop and accidentally knocked them down. He threw them across the room and quickly climbed onto his bed.

Jack and Kate awake with a jolt, staring at each other with wide eyes before looking over at Rudy. "Rudy!" Jack scolds, glancing at him with disbelief. "What the heck are you doing?"

Rudy was now laying down, his head against the headboard, and he had a sheepish expression on his face. "Oh, having trouble sleeping, huh? Me too." He chuckled nervously.

"Yeah, we're having trouble sleeping 'cause of you." Kate glared at him and she grabbed the pillow she had been sleeping on to throw it at her cousin. didn't like being woken up from her sleep. Especially when it was three in the morning.

"Okay," Jack's eyes widen with surprise and he grabs the pillow from Kate, setting the pillow back on the bed. "Rina, I'm upset too but let's not result to violence."

Kate huffs in annoyance and lays back down. "Fine."

"See what's on TV?" Rudy pointed at the TV.

"Look, I don't care what's on T-" Jack glances at the TV, his annoyance fading and that annoyance being replaced with excitement when he saw what movie was playing. "Woah." He gets off the bed, joining Rudy on his bed. "It's Bobby Wasabi in 'The Big Book Beatdown'."

"Yeah. I love this part." Rudy smiled, pointing at the scene that was currently playing. He moved to the edge of the bed, scooting over so there's room for Jack.

"It's three am and you're watching a movie." Kate whined, pulling the covers over her head to block out the light from the TV. She just wanted to go back to sleep.

The boys ignores her comment, too invested in the movie. "This is where he takes out the evil librarians with an almanac." Rudy explained.

"'No! You're overdue, sister!'" Rudy and Jack recited the quote said in the movie.

"Here we go." Jack excitedly said. "Bobby and his partner are about to pull off the greatest karate move of all time."

"The Wasabi whip." Rudy and Jack spoke in unison.

"Here it comes." Jack said. "They run at each other, they lock nunchucks. Woah, dude. They're airborne.  You know, if we did that move in competition, we would-"

"Be dead." Rudy cut in. He scoffs. "That move's practically impossible. Bobby trained for over ten years and was still only able to do it one time. Look, it's almost time to get up. We should probably get to bed."

"Yeah, so both of you shut up and go to sleep." Kate angrily muttered, pulling the covers down to glare at her cousin and Jack.

They both look at her with apologetic expressions. "Sorry, Kate." Jack apologized as Kate pulled the covers back over her head and closed her eyes.

Rudy turned off the TV as Jack went back to his shared bed, pulling back the covers which made Kate whine. He chuckles, sheepishly smiling at her. "Sorry." He laid down under the covers, pulling the covers over himself. He furrows his eyebrows when he noticed Rudy set something on the nightstand between the beds. "What's that?"

"Oh, well, sometimes I have a hard time falling asleep in hotels." Rudy responded.

Kate groans in annoyance. "Oh no." Even though her eyes are closed, she knew exactly what Rudy is going to talk about. When their families would go on vacation with their other cousins and all the cousins shared a room, she and their other cousins had to suffer listening to the 'soothing sounds'. They learned that after Rudy fell asleep they can just turn off the machine and he'll keep being asleep which allowed them to finally fall asleep.

"This little machine makes a bunch of different soothing sounds. The calming beaches of Mexico-My favorite." Rudy smiled and clicked the button.

Jack lays down and closes his eyes. Rudy gets his eye mask and puts it on before he lays down as waves crashing fills the air. Jack and Kate sit up with wide eyes when mariachi music started playing. Kate looks at Rudy with annoyance when she saw he was already asleep. She looks at Jack. "This is why I said 'oh no'. Can you turn it off?"

Jack furrows his eyebrows. "Won't that wake him up?"

"Nah," Kate shakes her head, laying back down on her right side. "When we go on vacation with our other families the cousins are usually stuck in a hotel room and we learned he still sleeps after we turn it off so don't worry, he'll be fine."

"Okay, good." Jack sighs with relief, leaning over to turn off the machine. "'Cause I can not sleep with that on." He lays back down, closing his eyes. "Good night, Rina."

Kate smiles a bit. "Night, Jackie."

****

In the morning, Kate groaned in annoyance when she woke up to someone saying her name. "Five more minutes." She mumbled, snuggling deeper into her pillow. She grew confused when she felt it move as she heard a familiar chuckle.

"Rina, it's time to wake up."

Kate's eyes widen and she blushes faintly after realizing her pillow was actually Jack's chest. She quickly sits up, moving away from him. "Sorry."

"It's okay." Jack reassured her and smiled softly at her, ignoring the blush that was forming on his face. When he woke up and realized he and Kate were cuddling, butterflies swarmed in his stomach and he was blushing like crazy. Sure, he and Kate cuddled before but recently he had started to realize he was falling for his best friends which made things like cuddling a bit more awkward.

So the thing is, he had been spending more time with Kim recently because he asked Kim to help him figure out a way to tell Kate that he's falling for her. But Kate didn't know that's the reason he and Kim having been hanging out a lot which was why Kate had been feeling secretly insecure  and doubting herself. Kate was thinking maybe Kim got over her crush on Ashton and now likes Jack and that Jack likes her back which would be why they're spending so much time together.

"I'm gonna go get ready." Kate quickly got up and out of bed, going to grab her set of clothes she planned on wearing today and then went to change in the bathroom.

****

Jack and Kate were now at the dining room, getting breakfast. Rudy said he would join them after he was done getting ready. Jack was towards the end of the buffet while Kate was towards the beginning when she felt a hand on her shoulder. Thinking it was Rudy finally joining her and Jack, she smiles as she turns around. "Hey, Rudy-" She frowns when she didn't recognize the boy in front of her. "You're not Rudy." She mentally scolded herself for saying such an obvious thing, but she was just shocked that a random boy came up to her, that was the first thing that came out of her mouth.

"No, I'm not." The boy laughs. He smiles, taking his hand off of Kate. "I was just sitting with my friends when I noticed you over here and I just wanted to tell you how pretty you are."

"Oh," Kate looks at him with surprise and she couldn't help the small smile that made its way to her lips. Even though this boy was a stranger, she had to admit she was flattered. He had dark hair, green eyes, athletic build, he had dimples when he smiled, and he looked to be around her age. She had to admit he looked cute. "Thank you..." Her voice trailed off when she realized he hadn't introduced himself yet.

"Silas." The dark-haired boy introduced himself, reaching his hand out.

Kate smiles and shakes his head. "Thank you, Silas. Nice to meet you, I'm Kate."

"Nice to meet you too, Kate. Pretty name for a pretty girl." Silas comments and once again Kate's face turns a bit red. "I was also hoping I could get your number." Silas hopefully said.

"I'm flattered, but I'm sorry, I'm gonna have to say no." Kate politely declined, apologetically smiling at him.

Silas frowns. "Why? Are you dating that guy you walked in with?" He scoffs. "Please, I'm much better than that loser."

Kate doesn't bother with answering his question despite her blood boiling when he insulted her best friend. She figured it was best to stay silent than say anything at all. She picks up her plate, turning to walk by the buffet to get more food. "Sorry, but my answer is no."

"Oh, come on." Silas puts his arm out in front of Kate, holding onto the edge of the counter, trapping Kate from moving. "Just give me a chance. A pretty girl like you should me honored that a guy like me is asking for your number."

Kate could feel her anger growing when he said that and she turns around to walk the other way, deciding on keeping her mouth shut. She groans when he blocked her with his other arm, both his arms trapping her. She set the plate on the counter behind her, glaring at Silas. "Okay, if I was you, I would leave me alone right now before things get violent."

Silas chuckles, looking at her with amusement that she was threatening him. He then shakes his head and smiles, still determined to get her to go out with him. "You don't even have to give me your number. At least let me take you out on a date."

Kate does the first thing she could think of doing seeing as she was trapped and couldn't run away. She punches Silas in the face. He groans, letting go of the counter to hold onto his nose as he stumbles backwards since he was startled by the sudden punch. "You brat!" He glares at her. "You're gonna regret doing that." Before Kate could block the punch Silas threw at her, someone else did it. Kate sighed with relief when she saw Jack was now standing by her and that he had stopped Silas from punching him. Kate knew she could probably take on Silas, but she wasn't for sure because Silas was twice her size.

Jack had stopped Silas' fist from making contact with Kate's face, and there was an angry look in Jack's eyes. "You probably shouldn't have done that." He stated, twisting Silas' arm and then kicked him in the stomach, sending him falling backwards. Silas landed on the floor a few inches away from Jack and Kate. Some of the other people by them all gasped or yelped in fear at what was happening, all of them quickly leaving the room before the fight continued.

Jack walks over to stand in front of Silas, who was groaning in pain. He glares down at him, his jaw clenched and his hands at his sides formed into fists. "If you ever come near her again I'll do a lot worse than that."

Silas immediately nods, quickly getting up and leaving. Jack's face softens as he turns to face Kate. "Kate," Kate glances up from the floor at Jack. He looks at her with concern. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah," Kate replies and exhales sharply. "Just a little shaken up." She takes a deep breath, calming herself down and smiles at him. "Thanks for saving me though."

"No problem." Jack reassures her, smiling softly at her. He chuckles a bit and nudges her playfully. "I'm sure you could've handled him though."

"Yeah, maybe." Kate agrees with a chuckle. "But I appreciate you stepping in to help."

"Guys, why did I just walk by people running and screaming? Is there a fire or something?" Rudy questioned, walking into the dining room over to the two teens and looking confused.

"A boy got upset after I didn't give him my number and he wouldn't leave me alone so I punched him." Kate shrugs. "But then he went to punch me and Jack stepped in, scaring him away."

"Oh," Rudy nods in realization. "That makes sense." His eyes widen in realization as if he wasn't paying attention first when she explained to him what happened. "Hold on, a boy asked out my little cousin and wouldn't leave her alone?" He then looks intimating as he glances around the room. "Where is he? I wanna punch him."

Kate and Jack laugh a bit at his response. "Rudy, it's fine." Kate reassures him. "Jack and I took care of him."

"Okay," Rudy relaxes and nods. "Good." He glances at her with concern, pulling her into a hug. "You okay, Kat?"

"Yeah," Kate reassures him, hugging him back. "I'm okay now."

****

The trio were now standing in the lobby while Jack packed his things for the tournament. "Trent Darby, checking into the penthouse." A dark-haired man spoke to the woman at the check in desk as he walked in, followed by a teenage boy.

Rudy looks over at the man with surprise. "Trent Darby?"

Trent glances at Rudy with wide eyes. "I don't believe it." He smiles. "Little Rudy Gillespie? You got a job here. Good for you." He puts some money into Rudy's shirt pocket. "Be careful with our bags."

"Oh." Rudy chuckles, taking out the money from his shirt pocket and puts it in his pants pocket. "No, I don't-I don't work here. So what are you doing in town?"

"We were on our way to the Grandmaster Championships in Japan, and we thought wed drop in and grab a quick trophy at the sensei-student tournament." Trent smiles, putting his hand on his student's shoulder. "This is Donnie, my best student." He and Donnie then did the same pose. "He's a master of the Mata-hisa-hushu discipline."

"Uh, well, this is my best student," Kate coughs loudly, interrupting Rudy. "My best students, Jack and Kate," Rudy corrects himself. "And they're also a master of the Mata-hishy...Mushy-hesu-hes..." He realizes he didn't say what Trent said right and shakes his head. "They both do it too!" Rudy exclaimed. The trio yelled in unison, doing the same pose Trent and Donnie did.

Trent's eyes widen in realization. "Oh, you guys are here to compete?" He pretends to smile sadly. "Too bad only one of your students can compete."

"Jack is gonna compete." Kate explains with a shrug. She smiles. "I'm honestly just here for moral support."

Trent laughs, shaking his head and glances at Rudy. "You never learn, do you, Rudy? This is gonna be great." He laughed while he walked away with his student.

"That guy seems like a jerk." Jack comments. He smiles. "It's gonna be great to compete against him, right, Rudy?"

"Oh, we're not gonna be competing against him." Rudy responded, earning confused looks from Jack and Kate.

"Why?" Jack asked.

"Because we're checking out." Rudy replies in a panicked tone. He runs over to the check in counter, pressing the bell. "Check out! Check out! Check out!"

Kate quickly runs over to her cousin, dragging him away form the check in counter. She sheepishly smiles at the employee, who looked confused. "Sorry, we're not checking out. Don't listen to him, he's a little crazy."

****

The trio were now back in the room and Jack and Kate sat on their shared bed, watching Rudy pack up his stuff.

"Just because you ran into some jerk from your past, you're gonna quit the tournament, march down to the lobby, and walk out the front door?" Jack questioned in disbelief.

"Of course not, you two are gonna zip me into one of your suitcases and throw me out the window." Rudy responded, causing Kate's eyes to widen.

"No way!" Kate argues. "Not gonna happen. I'm not throwing my cousin out the window. Calm down and think logically."

"You've always said you don't run away from a challenge." Jack reminds Rudy. "You face it head on."

"You shouldn't listen to me." Rudy shakes his head, pointing at the window. "I just asked you guys to throw me out the window."

"Which we're not doing, by the way." Kate said in a firm tone. She wasn't going to let him hurt himself because he was scared of going up against this Trent guy.

"What is it about this guy?" Jack inquired.

"Trent Darby stole my life." Rudy admits. He sits down on the bed, telling the story of what happened with Trent to his cousin and Jack. His ex girlfriend was in the audience, watching as he trash talked Trent, but when Rudy wasn't ready Trent flipped him over onto the mat. Every tournament they fought each other at Trent won each one. Trent even took his ex girlfriend from him.

"After beating me, his life took off. You know, he got all the confidence, the string of dojos, and the Lenore." He frowns. "And I wound up where I am."

"What are you talking about?" Kate asks in disbelief. "You're great where you are."

Jack nods in agreement. "There's nothing wrong with where you are. Dude, you're a great sensei, and you mean everything to your students. Do you know what? We're gonna stay right here and do the bets we can, together."

"You know what, Jack?" Rudy smiles and stands up from the bed he had been sitting on while he told his backstory with Trent. "You're right. Thank you, this is exactly the kind of pep talk that I needed. I already feel better."

"Good." Jack smiled.

Kate raises her eyebrows when a fart noise from a whoopee cushion is sounded as Rudy sat down on his bed. Jack snickers. "You really need to get rid of that whoopee cushion."

"Yes," Rudy said in a robotic voice, looking sheepish. "Because that was definitely the whoopee cushion."

****

Kate watched her cousin and best friend practice from her place sitting on a table near where Rudy's phone was plugged into a speaker that was playing music. Half way through the move, Rudy stops, looking at Jack with disbelief. "Come on, Jack." Jack stops, glancing at him wtih confusion. "We've been over and over and over this." Rudy points at Kate, gesturing for her to turn off the music. Kate nods, pausing the music as Rudy points at Jack. "Where are your toes?"

Jack furrows his eyebrows. "On my feet?" He replied but it sounded more like a question.

"No, see, your toes are pointed towards Canada, and my toes are pointed towards Memphis." Rudy explained.

Kate laughs. "Does it matter where your toes are pointed?"

Rudy glares at her. "Yes!" He exclaimed, causing her to raise her hands in defense.

"Well, how about we compromise and have our toes meet in Cleveland?" Jack suggested, earning a laugh from the janitor. Kate laughed as well, but she covered her mouth to stifle her laugh. Jack heard it though and he grinned.

Rudy glares at the janitor. "What are you laughing at? I know we're hideous. Get out!" The janitor quickly left the room.

"Rudy," Kate scolds him. "That was rude."

"Kate's right." Jack nods in agreement. "We know you're stressed about beating Trent, but, dude, what happened to the guy who wanted to come and have some fun and make some memories?"

"That guy's dead." Rudy responds. He points at Jack's toes, looking upset. "And your toes killed him. You convinced me that we could compete."

"I'm doing the best I can." Jack defended himself.

"Well, your best isn't good enough! You're an embarrassment!" Rudy shouted, earning a surprised gasp from Kate.

"Rudy!" Kate glares at her cousin. "I can't believe you just said that."

Jack stares at Rudy with offense, pointing at himself. "I'm the embarrassment?" He scoffs and begins to leave the room. "I'm out of here."

"Fine." Rudy shrugs. "Walk away." He turns to face Kate with a hopeful expression. "Kat, my favorite cousin, would you wanna-"

"No, Rudy. I'm not teaming up with you after you just called my best friend an embarrassment!" Kate glared at him, jumping off the table she sat on and walked out of the room.

****

Kate and Jack walk into the room where the tournament was being held, both looking annoyed, Jack being more annoyed than Kate. They both were upset with Rudy, but they decided to come back to help Rudy mainly because Jack's not a quitter.

"Guys!" Rudy immediately gets off the bench he sat on, his eyes lighting up when he saw his cousin and Jack walk in. "I'm so glad you both are here."

"Wish we could say the same." Kate muttered, crossing her arms.

"I'm not a quitter." Jack explains. "If I start something, I finish it." He sat his duffle bag on the bench, scooting over when he sat down so Kate could sit beside him. Kate sat beside him, glancing at her cousin when he spoke.

"Look, I said something that I never should have said. You're not the embarrassment. I'm the embarrassment." Kate frowned when Rudy said that. She didn't believe that at all. Sure, her cousin wasn't perfect, no one was perfect, but he definitely wasn't an embarrassment. The fact that he thought he was hurt her.

"Rudy..." Jack stands up. "Even though you sometimes turn into a flaming nutcase," Kate nods in agreement. She thought that was a perfect way to describe when Rudy lost control. "I know you're always gonna be there for me," Jack glances at Kate with a smile. "For us." He adds, earning a smile from Kate and he looks back at Rudy. "And we're always gonna be there for you."

Rudy smiles. "Thanks, Jack." He chuckled and he and Jack did a bro hug.

"Uh, you know, if we get a perfect score we could still win this." Jack smiles. "We just have to do something they've never seen before."

Kate beams. "Like The Wasabi whip!"

Jack points at her and grins. "Exactly!"

"I was thinking man-tassels, but the Wasabi Whip's good." Rudy comments, earning a confused look from Jack and Kate. Rudy glances at Jack curiously. "Do you really think we can do it?"

"Rudy, we've seen that movie a hundred times. When you and I work together, nothing's impossible." Jack reassured him.

"Yeah, don't worry, Rudy. You guys got this." Kate encouraged.

Jack furrows his eyebrows, shaking his head. "What the heck is a man-tassel?"

"Not for sure if I wanna know." Kate admitted.

****

Kate clapped along with the crowd, cheering for Jack and Rudy as they both walked onto the mat. They bowed and then began their move, preforming it in synch. Then they both grabbed nunchucks to continue their move, and soon it was time to preform the Wasabi Whip. Kate nervously bit her lower lip, bouncing her leg as she watched. She hoped the boys could perform it without getting hurt, but she had a bad feeling that wasn't going to happen.

Jack and Rudy ran at each other, linking the nunchucks together like Bobby and his partner did in the movie they watched the night before. Everyone watched in anticipation as they were airborne. Things were good at the beginning, until Jack started to lose his grip...And then Rudy lost his grip. Kate covered her eyes, not being able to watch Jack and Rudy crash into something. She winced whenever she heard two loud thuds and the boys exclaiming when they fell. She hesitantly opened her eyes, grimacing upon seeing Jack landed on top of a hot dog cart and that Rudy landed on Trent, knocking Trent off the bench he sat on.

Trent whines, holding onto his nose as Rudy got off him. Donnie and Lenore ran over to him, looking at him with concern. "He broke my nose, Lenore!" He said to the brunette-haired woman by him. "Ow, my beautiful, beautiful, nose." He got up and left with Lenore and Donnie, groaning in pain.

Jack got up and walked over to where Rudy kneeled. Kate looked at her cousin with worry. She couldn't see his face so she couldn't tell if she was okay or not. "Rudy, you okay, buddy?" Jack asked, glancing at Rudy with concern.

Jack put a hand on Rudy's back while Rudy stood, facing Jack with amusement as he laughed. Kate let out a sigh of relief, relieved to see that her cousin was in good spirits after what happened. Jack joined Rudy with laughing and Kate couldn't help but join them as well. Now that she thought about it, what just happened was hilarious.

"I guess that didn't work out too well, did it?" Jack chuckled.

"No, not even a little bit." Rudy shakes his head and smiles. "Dude, I don't care that Trent beat us. We had fun! This whole trip was about making memories and we just made a great one."

"Yeah, Wasabi." Jack cheered, high fighing Rudy.

"Guys, look at the score!" Kate giggled, pointing at the scores the judges held up.

The boys listen to her, glancing over at the judges and their eyes widen. "Oh!" They both exclaim and then they laugh again. "Yeah!" Rudy cheered.

"Ladies and gentlemen," An announcer speaks over the speaker. "Team Wasabi just recorded the lowest score in the history of the tournament."

The boys raise their arms up in victory. "You hear that, people?" Jack asks. He grins. "What do you think of that? Come on."

"You people just witnessed some history." Rudy tells them. "Lowest score ever, Team Wasabi! Give it up! Wasabi!" He shouted, trying to get the crowd to chant along wtih him and Jack joined him. Kate shook her head, laughing as she watched Rudy and Jack cheer about their loss with amusement. Kate is the first one to join Rudy in on the chant and eventually the crowd followed her lead.

Kate, Jack, and Rudy, were now in the lobby, getting ready to check out. "Our bill is four thousand dollars?" Jack questioned in disbelief.

Kate walks away from her suitcase that was by Jack's and Rudy's luggage, staring at Jack with disbelief. "Wait, what? It can't be that much." She shook her head and got her phone out, walking off to the side to call a friend for help.

"What? I told you not to order another juice with breakfast!" Rudy scolded Jack.

Jack rolls his eyes. "Oh, yeah."

"Give me that." Rudy grumbled, snatching the bill from Jack. Kate walked back to Jack and Rudy after she was done with the phone call, her eyes widening and she gaped at how big the bill was when it was unfolded. "Room service, fifteen hundred dollars, eleven hundred dollars for a new TV, fourteen hundred dollars for a volleyball net remover. No, this seems about right."

Jack looks at him worriedly. "What are we gonna do?"

"Don't worry, guys." Kate smiles reassuringly at Jack and Rudy, crossing her arms. "I called in a friend for help. He'll be here soon." Jack and Rudy looked at her with confusion, but then looked over their shoulders when they heard Milton.

"Oh, hey, guys."

"Milton," Kate smiles at the red-haired boy. "Thanks for coming to help us out."

"No problem." Milton smiled.

"Dude, what are you doing here?" Jack asked in disbelief.

"I've been to an away tournament with Rudy before. I know how expensive things can get." Milton replies. "And plus Kate called me and asked for help with the bill. Let me see." He takes the bill from Rudy. "Oh, this is a cheap one." He smiles, walking over to the counter. "Now, let's see..." Milton pulls out a stack of cash from his pocket and goes through it, missing the shocked looks on Jack's and Rudy's faces. "You know what? Just keep the change." Milton smiled at the employee behind the counter, setting the stack of cash. The employee looked at him with surprise but smiled, taking the money off the counter.

"Okay, how'd you get all that money?" Kate asked, staring at Milton curiously.

"It's a long story." Milton admits, facing his friends with a smile. "I'll tell you guys on the way home. Let's go home. I have a helicopter waiting."

"Hola!" Kate excitedly exclaimed along with Jack and Rudy, walking away with them as Milton followed them.
