CHAPTER SIX, swords and magic
It was just another day in the dojo and the gang was doing their stretches before practice until Jerry suddenly walked through the front door of the dojo out of breath. Kate sat up straighter since she was sitting on the ground, doing leg stretches, and a curious expression formed on her fac. She wondered why Jerry looked out of breath and why he even looked like he was panicking.
"Guys, huge problem-Kelsey Vargas, the coolest girl in school, is on her way down here." Jerry explained.
"Don't panic." Jack assures him. "We've trained for this." He looks at Eddie, and Milton. "Guys, bust out the emergency deodorant." The three boys ran toward their separate backpacks to put on their deodorant as Kate stood up.
"I don't need deodorant." Jerry protested.
"We all need deodorant. We're teenage boys." Milton speaks, putting on his deodorant. "Our bodies are a smorgasbord of smells."
"I don't take any chances." Eddie speaks up. "I'm wearing a necklace of air fresheners right now." He takes out the necklace that was hidden behind his shirt and sniffs the air fresheners. "This week I'm Alpine Medow."
"I told Kelsey I was a martial arts expert and the youngest sensei in history." Jerry admitted.
Kate shakes her head and points at him. "That's your first mistake." Jerry glances at her with confusion. "Lying to her." She told him and he rolled his eyes in response. Kate went over to where her backpack was laying which was across from where Kim's duffle bag was at and got her sparring gear out. Kim walked over to her duffle bag at the same time to get her sparring gear out.
"Jerry." Rudy walked out from boy's locker room, handing Jerry a helmet.
"Oh, Rudy, Kelsey's on her way. Dude, please hook me up with that black belt." Jerry pleaded.
Rudy points at the black belt that was tied around the gi he wore. "You can't have this belt. It's a symbol of hard work, honor, and respect."
Jack walks over to him, looking at him with confusion. "Well, then why do you use it to walk your dog?"
Rudy gets defensive and points at him. "That was one time and it was an emergency. I had a pug with the squirts and new white carpet." He shakes his head. "Look, can we stop talking and get to sparring, please?"
Kate walks over to the group with her helmet and gloves in hand. "Jerry, you're up against Kim. Milton, you're with Kate. Eddie, you're with Jack." Rudy explained, pointing at each team he said.
Kate shares a smile with Milton while they get lined up with Kim and Jerry on the mat. Eddie stares at Jack with a fearful expression. "Jack?" It was clear he was not looking forward to sparring with Jack and as if to prove as to why he didn't want to spar with Jack, Jack showed off some of his karate moves which only threatened Eddie more. "Uh, hold on." Eddie nervously smiles. "My phone's vibrating." He pulls out his wallet. "You know I hate to be that guy and all, but-" He holds it up to his hear as if it was a phone, pretending he got a call. "Hello?"
Jack furrows his eyebrows and outstretches his arms with confusion. "You mean the guy that pretends his wallet is a phone?"
Eddie points at him, looking at him with an upset expression. "Please, ssh!" He walks away. "Can you hear me now?"
"Come on, guys, let's go." Rudy clapped his hands, signaling for them to start sparring.
"But now I don't have a sparring partner." Jack gestured to Eddie, who stood off to the side still pretending his wallet was a phone.
"Okay, uh, you spar with Kate then, and I'll spar with Milton." Rudy suggested, pointing at Kate. Kate didn't mind trading, and this wouldn't be her first time sparring with Jack. Rudy and Kate trade places so now that meant Kate stood in front of Jack, standing beside Jerry. It was Jack, Kim, and Milton standing across from Kate, Jerry, and Rudy on the mat.
"You ready to lose, Jack?" Kate teased, getting into a fighting stance.
"Oh, please." Jack rolls his eyes playfully and gets into a fighting stance. He smirks at her. "You'll be the one losing." Just as the two started to spar, the door to the dojo opened and Kelsey Vargas walked in.
"Hi, Jerry." Kelsey greeted, walking further into the dojo to stand near the entrance.
"Kelsey," Jerry stands up straighter, turning to face her with a smile. He gasps. "What a surprise."
The others stop sparring so they could pay attention better to what would happen. Kelsey crosses her arms. "So these are the students that fear and respect you?'
Jerry nods and smiles in response. "Yes," Kim puts her hands on her hips and forces a smile. "We are." She looks at Jerry with a smirk. "I'm about to fear and respect the living grits of him right now."
Jerry looks at her with fer. "Oh, no, not my grits. I'm gonna need my grits." Kim reached forward to grab his right arm and twisted it. Jerry grunted in pain when Kim flipped him onto the floor. Kate, Jack, and Milton grimaced as Jerry hit the floor hard.
Jerry stands up, but he doesn't quite have his balance and is acting a bit dazed. "Yead, I'd say you've got that move down pretty well." He looks at his friends. "Oh, you guys take a five. Kelsey and I are gonna get a froyo." He turns around and walks over to Kelsey. "Oh, come on, Kelsey." He must've still be slightly out of it because instead of wrapping his arm around Kelsey, he wrapped his arm around Rudy, who stood near Kelsey.
****
At school the next day Kate is hanging out in the hallway with Eddie, Kim, and Jack. Kate sat on the bench closest to the stairs, reading the recent book she had been reading which happened to be the second book of the Percy Jackson series. She finished the first one a while ago and this was her second time reading the series since that's how much she loved it.
"Hey, thanks a lot, Kim." Jerry speaks to the blonde sitting beside Jack on the bench. He walks down the stairs and over to his friends. He glares at Kim. "You cost me a date with the coolest girl in school."
Kate glances up from her book when she heard Jerry's voice, but shrugs and went back to reading since she didn't really care about what was happening. "What are you gonna do, sensei, throw me out of the dojo?" Kim sassily asked. Jerry frowned and crossed his arms.
Jack faces Kim. "Kim, in the future, let's respect Jerry enough not to embarrass him in front of girls he's lying to."
Jerry smiles at him. "Thank you, Jack." He glares at Kim. "It's called decency, Kim."
Kate looks up from her book with furrowed eyebrows when she heard a kazoo being played and laughter from students in the hallway. "Why do I hear a kazoo?"
Jack glances over to his right upon seeing the red-haired boy dressed up like a King and sighs. "It's Milton."
Milton stands in front of the stairs and raises his scepter. "All hail Miltonius, the newly-crowned King of Nernia!"
Jack stands up and walks over to Milton. "See, Milton, this is the reason you had to go to Spring Formal with the biolab skeleton."
"I'll have you know that Bonita is an excellent dancer." Milton shrugged.
"Hey, I know what's going on." Eddie chimes in. "It's that time of year when all the dorks come out to play swords and magics in the park." Kate nodded in realization. The nerds and dorks of the school roleplayed in the park every year. She kind of thought it was ridiculous, but she had to admit it also sounded kind of fun. She would never admit that out loud though.
Milton smiles. "Or if it rains, we use the bingo hall at the senior center. We tear it up."
As she walks by, Kelsey smiles at Jerry. "Hi, Jerry."
Jerry pushes Milton to the side, smiling at Kelsey. "Hey, Kelsey. I was just talking to this kid I've never seen before. I don't even know his name. Right, Milton?" He groans and scolds himself. "Really, Jerry?" He walked over to sit beside Kim on the bench and Jack sat beside Kate.
"Guys, big news." Milton smiles at his friends. "This year you all are gonna participate in the battle with me."
"What happened to all your other friends?" Kim asks. "You know, the ones that throw up when Kate or I try to talk to them?"
Kate's nose scrunches up with disgust at the memory. "Yeah, they don't do well around girls."
"Well, this year things are a little complicated. Francis has a bassoon recital, Jeffery is a finalist in the Mathlympics, and Louis got grounded for teaching his cokatiel bad words." Milton explained.
"Dude," Jerry shakes his head. "We're not gonna be a part of your nerdfest."
"Very funny, Jerry." Milton chuckles. "NerdFest is in Minneapolis in october."
Kate looks at him with surprise. "That's a real thing?" Milton nodded in response with a grni on his face.
"See, Milton," Jack stands up and grabs his backpack. "A bunch of dudes in tights, running around the woods beating each other senseless with foam swords," He shakes his head and puts a hand on his hip. "It's just not our thing."
"Well, it's my thing and I wanna share this moment with my best friends." Milton tells them. "That's you guys."
Kate smiles at him. "That's sweet, Milton."
"I don't know." Eddie stands up, holding onto the basketball he was messing around with. "I just quit the cello and threw out my panda bear backpack. I'm just starting to get cool."
"Come on, just give it a chance." Milton encourages. He walks over to the side with a smile on his face. "Soon you'll know the exhalation of bounding down a hill, cape aflutter," This was the time where Kate and the others wanted to leave before Milton continues rambling. Kate puts a bookmark in place before she closes her book. She picked up her backpack, putting one strap on her shoulder and left with the rest of her friends as Milton continued to speak.
"To stay a half-elf with a foam rubber ax. Are you with me? All for one and one for-" Milton turns to face his friends, frowning when he saw they weren't there anymore. "Gah!" He sighs and throws his arms up in frustration. "I probably lost 'em at 'cape aflutter.'"
****
"Oh, guys, check it out." Jerry said to Kate, Kim, Jack, and Eddie as he walked over to them the same time they walked out of the dojo. "I smoothed everything out with Kelsey. I promised I would never lie to her again, and I got a date with her this afternoon."
"Yeah!" Jack and Eddie cheered for him.
Jerry grins. "The kid is back in the game. Whoo!" He high fived Jack while Eddie pointed in a direction with an amused look on his face.
"Nerd alert."
Kate looks in the direction he was pointing at, chuckling quietly upon seeing three boys dressed up. Two were dressed as knights and the one in front was dressed as a King. "Greetings." The boy dressed as a King speaks. "We are the Dark Knights. Warriors known for being brave and ferocious and-"
"Ferocious?" Kim interrupts him with an amused smile on her lips. She stands in front of him. "Sidney, you cried in science when your fruit fly died."
Kate chuckles. "Yeah, that's not very ferocious."
"That fruit fly left behind three thousand babies." Sidney said. He shakes his head and changes the subject. "Milton said he put together a band of loyal warriors that will finally capture our grail and defeat us." He scoffs. "Like that's going to happen." He laughs and Kate assumes it was supposed to be an evil laugh, but it didn't sound anything like an evil laugh. It just sounded so bad.
Jack cringes and shakes his head. "Dude, dude, dude." Sidney finally stops laughing and looks at him. "That evil laugh is so not working." Jack commented.
Sidney turns to face the Knight standing beside his left side with a glare. "Thanks, Benny. You told me it was intimidating." Benny shrugged in response. Sidney walked away with Benny and the other boy following him.
Kate sits down at the table nearby them along with Eddie. "Woah. Guys, Milton called us his loyal warriors." Jack points out and he had a guilty look on his face. "Now he's gonna be out there all alone against a flock of dweebs hopped up on Honey Buns."
"Uh, Jack, are you saying that we should go to the park and help him?" Kim nervously smiles. "Because, uh, I-I can't. My, uh, Aunt Charlotte-Yeah, she's coming in from, uh, Charlotte, and we're gonna go watch 'Charlotte's Web'." Her friends look at her with an 'are you serious' expression. They could obviously tell she was lying. "Wow," Kim cringes and sits down in the chair across from Eddie. "I am not good at lying."
"Look, Milton's always been there for us." Jack reminded his friends. He then pointed out each time that Milton was there for each of them.
With Jerry, Milton helped him get Kelsey jealous by Milton dressing up as a cheerleader. Milton was there for Eddie when he didn't want his grandma to do his hair and so Milton let his grandma do his hair instead. Thanks to Milton, Kim was able to perform at the St. Patricks Day Concert. Kim had lost her voice the day before the performance, and they made it where Milton stood behind the curtain and they made it where Milton was the one actually singing but it still looked like Ki was singing.
And with Kate, Milton helped her get a signed picture from her favorite Marvel actress and actors at comic con. No one wanted to go with her and because of her shy self she didn't want to go alone. She had always wanted to go to comic con and that year it was in a nearby city so she knew that she had to go to this one because she probably wouldn't be able to go to another one anytime soon. All her friends, besides Milton was busy that day. Milton encouraged her to go and suggested he would go with her so she wouldn't be alone and she would be forever grateful that he went with her.
"Guys," Jack glances at his friends. "I think you know what we have to do."
****
Now the five teens were dressed up in the costumes that Milton had picked out for them. Jack was dressed as a Knight, Eddie was an Elf, Jerry was well, Kate wasn't for sure what he was supposed to be, he looked like he was some kind of Viking in her opinion. Anyway, Kim was dressed as a princess (with a very pointy hat), and Kate was dressed as a huntress.
(this is kate's costume)
"I don't get it." Kim frowns. "Why do I have to be the princess?"
"It was the only costume that Milton had in your size." Kate responded. She understood why Kim was upset. She and Kim were the only girls in the group and Kim probably thought it wasn't fair that she didn't get to be a Knight or something cool like that because she's a girl.
Eddie shakes his head immediately and raises his hands in defense. "I'm not swapping."
"Do you even know how to use that thing?" Jerry asked Kate, gesturing to the bow n arrow Kate held.
Kate smirks, picking out an arrow from its case that was hooked to the belt around her waist and put the plastic arrow in the plastic bow. She aims the arrow at Jerry's chest and pulls back then lets go, causing the arrow to hit directly the middle of Jerry's chest and it falls to the floor. Jerry looks at her with wide eyes and nods. "Okay, so you do now how to use that thing."
Kate smiles sweetly and crosses her arms. "I'm actually glad I took archery lessons last summer." She smirks. "Now I get to use my archery skills."
****
Kate wished her huntress costume had sleeves because her arms were getting scratched by all the thorns and bushes they've come across during their trek through the woods. Why are she and her friends in the woods you might ask? Well, it's because Eddie thought of a shortcut, and he apparently had some experience in the woods with being an explorer scout.
"I can't take this anymore." Eddie confesses as the group comes across a clearing. "It's hot, my feet are killing me and these elf ears are starting to get sweaty." He took off one of his elf ears and squeezed sweat out of it to prove his point. Kate grimaced upon seeing how much sweat was squeezed out of the elf ear.
"You don't get to complain. We could have stayed on the path to the battlefield, but no, you knew a shortcut through the woods." Jack rolls his eyes and he grabs Eddie's elf ear to shout at it. "This is not a shortcut, Eddie!" He handed the elf ear back to Eddie.
"Relax. I'm an Explorer Scout. I was trained to navigate by the stars." Eddie explained.
Kim glares at him, hitting the scepter she had against her hand in a threatening motion. "Oh, I can help you see the stars." Kate's eyes widened as Kim went towards Eddie, most likely to punch him, so she and Jack grabbed her arms to pull her back. Jerry had stepped between them as Eddie stepped back.
"We just need to focus." Kate tells everyone. "Being mad at each other won't do anything to help us get to the battlefield and we need to get there before Milton's battle starts in half an hour." Kim calmed down and Kate and Jack let go of her arms.
"Hey, it's a groundhog." Jerry notices, walking over to stand in front of it with a smile on his face. Kate glanced in the direction Jerry was looking, furrowing her eyebrows when she saw a porcupine instead of a groundhog. "Hey." He speaks in a baby voice, kneeling down. "Well, you're a cute little fella, aren't you? How are you doing? How are you doing?" The porcupine hissed at him in response.
"Uh, Jer, that's a porcupine." Kate tells him and he looks at her with confusion. "Not a groundhog. You should probably back up."
"Uh, thank you, Kate," Jerry rolls his eyes at her, standing up. "But I think I know the difference between a groundhog and a porcupine, okay?"
"Yeah, okay." Kate rolls her eyes and crosses her arms. "But I get to say I told you so when you find out I'm right."
Jerry kneels down in front of the porcupine again and speaks in a baby voice. "Are you looking for mommy or something, cutie?" The porcupine hisses at him again. "No, no?"
Kate, Kim, Jack, and Eddie watches with wide eyes as Jerry was hit with many quills. Jerry stands up, facing his friends with a wide-eyed expression. Quills pierced all over his face, some in his hair, and some were stuck on his clothes. Some were even stuck in the water jog that was now pouring out water. Jerry points at the porcupine. "This dumb groundhog thinks it's a porcupine."
Kate shrugs. "I told you it was a porcupine."
Jerry slightly glares at her before he glances at each of his friends. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go over there." He walked off to the side and screamed in pain.
****
The five teens continued their journey through the woods and Kate was honestly glad she was wearing a dress and that she braided her hair into a French braid instead of leaving it down because it was hot out. Jerry got most of the quills off his face, hair, clothes and the water jug, but he still had some on.
"You got a little something here." Jack pointed at his face.
"Where?" Jerry asked him. Jack smiled with amusement, picking off the last quill that was stuck to Jerry's face and Jerry screamed when he did that. Eddie put a hand on his shoulder to comfort him.
"Oh, there you are!" Kate sighs with relief upon seeing Kim walking over to the group. She notices that some leaves and sticks were stuck in her blonde hair that was a little tangled and her pointy hat was folded over. "Where have you been?"
"Let's just say I did something I've never had to do before and hope I never have to do again." Kim responded with a grimaced expression on her face. Kate grimaced when she realized what Kim meant.
"I felt that way when I had to take my cats' temperature." Eddie says. "They fight it. Oh, they fight it." Kim stepped toward him threateningly with a glare in her eyes and Eddie stepped back with wide eyes.
"You know what? I just realized..." Jack picks out his phone that was inside his boot. "I have a GPS on my phone. I'll get us out of these woods."
"No, no, no." Eddie shakes his head. "I said I'll get us out and I will." He takes Jack's phone, earning an annoyed look from Jack. "Explorer Scouts do not rely on GPS."
"Hey, give me that." Jack grabbed his phone and the two boys wrestled for Jack's phone. The phone slipped out of their grasp in the process and fell into a nearby log.
"Now are you happy?" Jack looks at Eddie with annoyance, gesturing to the log. "My phone just flew into that log."
"Relax, I'll get it." Eddie goes over to the log to kneel down and reaches into the log. He smiles when he felt Jack's phone. "Hey, I got it." Kate furrows her eyebrows when she heard a buzzing noise coming from inside the log. "I think you got a call. It's starting to buzz."
Kate's heartbeat increases and her eyes widen, realizing that a beehive must be in the log. Eddie stands up and Kate knew she was correct because Eddie's hand was inside a beehive. Jack looks at him with wide eyes. "My phone's not buzzing. That's a beehive!"
Eddie glances at the beehive he held and a panicked look forms on his face. He screams and threw the beehive to Kim. Kim yelps and threw the beehive to Jerry. "I don't want it either!" Jerry exclaimed, throwing the beehive towards Jack. Jack karate kicked the beehive, breaking it in half.
Kate bites her lower lip worriedly, beginning to slowly back away. "Yeah, that probably wasn't a good idea."
Now the bees were even more angry and were flying around the five teens. Everyone yelled and Kim and Jerry ran off in one direction while Kate ran off in another direction. Jack ran, trying to get rid of the bees that were chasing him, but he ended up running into a tree, causing him to fall down because of the hard impact. Eddie screamed when the bees started chasing him and he ran right into a puddle of mud.
Kate made her way back to the clearing they were at when she didn't hear any buzzing noise and her eyes widened when she saw Jack laying on the ground. "Jack!" Her voice was laced with panic, and she rushed over to him, kneeling beside him. His eyes opened and she let out a sigh of relief, happy to know that he was at least not unconscious. She assumed he passed out for a few seconds after he hit a tree. She knew she hit the tree nearby because of the big bump that was now on his forehead.
She looks at him worriedly. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," Jack groans in pain. "I think so." He stood up with Kate's help since he stumbled a bit and he wrapped his arm around her waist for support. Kate had her arm wrapped around his shoulders, helping him keep him balance until he could on his own.
"I think I lost them." Eddie announced.
Kate turns her attention to Eddie, her eyes widening when she saw he was covered mud. "What happened to you?" Kim inquired. Kate glanced in the direction she heard Kim's voice, just then realizing Kim and Jerry were back with them and she saw that Kim's pointy hat was now gone.
"I had a little mud situation." Eddie answered.
Kate and Jack walks over to the group with their arms still wrapped around each other. "Wow, I really hit my head." Jack mumbles, still in pain after the hit. He glances at his friends. "Is there a bump?"
Kim grimaces. "Just a teeny one."
Jerry stares at Jack with wide eyes. "Dude, your forehead is jacked up." Jack furrowed his eyebrows and brought his hand up to touch his forehead. His eyes widens when he felt the big bump on his forehead.
****
Kate breathed heavily, putting her hands on her hips when she stopped running to catch her breath. She stood by Jack and Jerry at the end of the path they were following. Her poor arms were littered with scratch marks and the ends of her dress was torn up because of it getting caught in bushes or tree limbs. And her once nice French braid was a mess now. She was just tempted to take it out and pull her hair up into a messy bun. She was hot, sweaty, and tired. She didn't care what she looked like anymore.
Jack breaths heavily, leaning his hands on his knees to catch his breath as he glances around. "I think we finally lost the bees." He furrows his eyebrows with confusion, glancing at Kate and Jerry beside him. "Where's Kim and Eddie?"
"Oh, Kim got her hair tangled up in a thorn bush." Jerry responded while Kate undid her French braid and pulled her hair up into a messy bun. She decided to put it up so it would be out of the way and she felt less sweaty without her hair laying on her shoulder.
Eddie pants as he runs towards them. He stands by the three of them. "It took a while, but I finally got Kim's head out of that bush." He smiles, holding up a pocket knife. "Luckily I have my official Explorer Scout pocket knife."
Kate gasps along with the boys upon seeing how bad Kim's hair looked. Her hair was absolutely wiled, ticking out all over the place, and some sticker burrs were stuck in her hair. Kim smiles at her friends and gestures in a direction. "Guys, the battlefield's right over there. Come on."
The four teens watch her run off with grimaced expressions. "Eddie," Jack chuckles with his hands folded behind him. "Even if you make it out of this battle alive, Kim's gonna kill you." He then ran off in the direction Kim ran.
Kate pats Eddie's shoulder for comfort, glancing at him with sympathy. "I'm gonna miss you, buddy."
Jerry furrows his eyebrows with confusion. "Wait, that was Kim?"
****
Kate had to admit she wasn't surprised to see her cousin there with Milton. She knew that Rudy liked this kind of stuff. The gang got to the battle just in time. Sidney had knocked Milton's sword out of his hand and knocked him to the ground.
"It's over, Miltonious!" Sidney shouts, pointing his sword at Milton. "Prepare to taste my foam!"
Jack grabs the foam rubber ax Jerry held and threw it at Sidney. It hit Sidney's arm, causing him to lose grasp on his sword and pull his hand back in pain. "Ow!" Sidney frowns, glancing around with wide eyes. "Who threw that?" A shocked expression appeared on his face when screaming can be heard and he looked in the direction of the screams he heard to see five teens that looked all messed up running at them.
"His army is made of ogres!" Sidney panicked.
Milton stands up, smiling from ear to ear when he saw his friends. "Those aren't ogres." He picks up his sword. "Those are my friends."
Sidney picks up his sword, looking at his army. "Retreat! Retreat!"
The five teens continue screaming until they make it over to the battle. Sidney's army runs off while the five teens run over to stand by Milton and Rudy. Milton grins at them. "You guys made it."
"This may not be our thing, but if it means to something to you, then we're with you, King Miltonius." Jack told him with a smile on his face.
Milton smiles. "Thank you." He furrows his eyebrows, pointing at Kim. "Who's the dude with the punked-out mullet?" They all glanced at Kim, who looked confused and glanced beside her since she thought someone must be standing by her and she looked back at Milton with confusion upon seeing no one by her.
"Alright, guys, hands in." Jack puts his hand in the middle first, followed by everyone else. "We've got us a grail to capture."
"Wasabi!" The gang yelled, raising their hands at the same time.
Milton raises his sword and shouts, "Charge!"
Everyone yells and ran in the direction Sidney's army was based. Kate stayed with Rudy at the base so it would be easier to shoot at the opposite team from somewhere up high and they were standing on a small hill. "What happened to you?" Rudy asked her, noticing her messed up hair, the scratch marks on her arms and how torn up the bottom of her dress was.
"I hate nature." Kate replied with an angered expression on her face and she got her bow n arrow ready.
Rudy nodded slowly and an intimidated look was on his face. He decided not to ask about anything else since he was a bit intimidated by her since she seemed to be angry and also had a bow n arrow. He knew it was fake, but that didn't mean it didn't make her look any less intimidating.
Jerry, Eddie, Jack, and Kim took on multiple Knights on their own meanwhile Kate would shoot at oncoming Knights that were coming their way to help make things easier for them. At one point some Knights made their way up to the base where Kate and Rudy were. "Kate, watch out!" Rudy shouted as he fought with two Knights, seeing a Knight heading in her direction.
Kate had been too busy shooting arrows at other Knights and each time she would hit them they would fall to the ground, acting as if she killed them. Kate looked to her left when she noticed movement out of the corner of her eye and she quickly got an arrow ready to shoot at the Knight just in time before he could hit her. He was merely inches away when the arrow hit him and he fell to the floor.
After seeing no Knights were heading in their direction yet, Kate turned to face her cousin with wide eyes, seeing he was still fighting with a Knight. He had hit the other one down, but the one still standing had took the grail. Rudy used his sword to push the boy's arm with the sword to the side and then turned around, making a slicing motion across the boy's chest with the foam rubber sword. The boy fell backwards, letting go of the grail he held.
"Catch the grail, Rudy!" Kate panicked, hoping that he would catch it in time before it could fall and roll down the hill to where other opposing Knights were at. She sighed with relief when Rudy caught the grail in time.
"Kat, duck!" Rudy told her, looking at her with wide eyes. Kate smiled slightly upon hearing the nickname only Rudy called her, but she furrowed her eyebrows with confusion, wondering why she needed to duck. She he did as she was told, her eyes widening when she saw her cousin lean over her with his sword pointing at a Knight that had snuck up behind Kate. Rudy blocked the hits the boy threw at him and made a slicing motion to the Knight's stomach, causing him to fall down. Rudy turned around while he set the grail back on the small table with a proud smile on his face.
Kate stares at him with an awestruck expression, slowly standing up. "You just saved my life and the grail."
"Oh, that was nothing." Rudy chuckles, waving a dismissive hand around, pretending it wasn't a big deal. He grins excitedly. "Okay, yeah, I was great!" Kate giggled a bit, amused by his excitement and the two cousins fist bumped before they continued fighting other Knights.
During the battle, Kate noticed that Milton had managed to get the other team's grail and she smiled brightly. But she grew worried upon noticing that a small group of Knights were after him and that he had fallen. She gets a bow n arrow ready upon seeing no Knight was after her. She saw she was standing quite a bit away from them, but she thinks maybe just maybe she can hit them. She drew back the bow and shot the arrow at one Knight in front of the group going after Milton.
"Yes!" She cheered excitedly and fist bumped the air upon seeing the boy falling down. She didn't think she would be able to hit him because of how far she was from them. Milton stood up, glancing in the direction Kate was and thankfully smiled at her. Kate smiled back at him and gave him a thumbs up before she got another arrow ready. Kate shot arrows at the boys that were coming at Milton to allow him to head back to their base, but in the middle of it, she noticed two Knights heading her way so she knew she would have to fight them off and hope that Milton could fight off the rest.
While Kate fights off the two Knights, using her bow as a sword, Jack and Jerry were back to back, and Jack noticed Milton was fighting three Knights by himself. He glanced at the swing set nearby and at the seesaw behind where Milton was fighting, smiling to himself when he got an idea. He ran towards the swing set and jumped, holding onto the top of the swing set. He swung forward strongly and landed on the seesaw, causing the grail that was on the other end to fly into the air.
Milton glances at Jack and Jack smiles at him, giving him a thumbs up. Milton smiles and runs towards his base, the direction the opposing team's grail was going to. Everyone stopped what they were doing to watch the grail fly in the air, all anxiously waiting to see if Milton would catch it. Kate stepped out of the way because she thought that the grail looked so close to her that it might hit her. Milton got to the base just in time and he lunged forward, landing on the ground as he caught the grail.
Kate stands across from Rudy, her bow n arrow ready and Rudy was in a fighting stance. She and Rudy was on high alert in case any Knights were coming while Milton set the grail on the small table next to their grail.
Milton raises his arms with a grin on his face. "Victory!"
"Yeah!" Kate exclaimed excitedly along with Rudy and they both raised their arms along with Milton. The rest of their team ran over to them while the opposing Knights that were on the ground got up.
"Oh!" Sidney groans. He gestures for his Knights to follow him. "Come on." They left as Milton and his team celebrated.
"Way to go, Milton!" Jack smiles at Milton. "You did it."
"No, Jack, we did it." Milton corrected him and the two boys shared a smile.
"Here you go, Milton." Kim picks up the opposing team's grail. "You've earned your gr-" A shocks expression formed on her face when she saw how she looked in the reflection on the grail. She shrieks loudly, making the others plug their ears and grimace. "My hair." She frowns. "What happened to my hair?" She angrily questioned, glancing at everyone.
