CHAPTER FOUR, dummy dancing
Kate peaked out of her hiding place behind the wall along with her friends (minus jerry since he was in detention) to make sure no one was around. It was after school, and they were in the hallway since the boys did an annual challenge when the floor was waxed. Once they saw the hallway was clear they all walked out.
Jack kneels, wiping his finger against the floor to check it. "Oh, yeah." He smirks. "Waxy Wednesday. Where a plastic tray meets a freshly-buffed floor and legends are born."
"Hey, guys." Eddie greets, walking over to them from the cafeteria. "I got the trays."
"Any problems getting by Marge the lunch lady?" Kim asked him.
Eddie shakes his head. "Nah, she said they don't pay her enough to care."
Kate presses her lips together and nods. "Makes sense."
"Guys," Kate glances over in the direction of where she heard Jerry's voice and furrows her eyebrows. She was confused since he's supposed to be in detention. Jerry rushes down the first flight of stairs and leans over the ledge. "Did I miss anything?'
"Not yet." Kim replies. She furrows her eyebrows. "Hey, shouldn't you be in detention for putting a tollbooth in the boys' bathroom."
Jerry smirks and stands. "I should be, but when you sit me in the back and leave a window open, I'm what they call a fight risk."
"Jack, your record's about to be broken." Milton said to Jack with a smirk on his face. "Prepare for the new world champion," He sets his helmet on the floor and unzips his grey jacket and pulls his pants off to reveal he's wearing a purple onesie. "Milton 'The Missle' Krupnik." His friends grimaced upon seeing how skinny he is.
"Dude, eat a sandwich." Jerry told him.
Kate looks over in the direction of where she heard a door open and rolls her eyes upon seeing Truman walk in. Truman was so annoying. "Oh, look at this." Truman gestures to the group of six. "I've walked into the middle of a loser-palooza."
Jack rolls his eyes. "What do you want, Truman?"
Truman shrugs and smiles. "I thought I'd just hang out."
Jerry looks at him with disgust. "Do you have to do it here?"
Kate chuckles at his remark while Truman looks at him with a glare. "It's a free hallway, Jerry."
Milton puts his helmet on as he turns to face Truman. "Truman, if you'll excuse me, I have a date with destiny."
Truman scoffs. "We'll that'll be your first date ever." He laughed at his own joke.
Milton mocks his laugh. "Very funny." He sarcastically comments. He points at Truman. "You're about to see my skid marks." He furrows his eyebrows and shakes his head. "Okay, I thought that was gonna sound different when it came out."
Milton gets ready as Kim runs down the hallway to the trashcan at the end. "Okay, guys, this garbage can marks Jack's record of forty-seven floor tiles." Kim explained.
Running down the hallway, Milton yells as he puts the tray on the floor and kneels on it. He slides down the rest of the hallway, way past the trashcan. Everyone winced as he went into the other part of a hallway, colliding with one of the science projects that was in front of the science room. Kate quickly ran over to him along with the rest of her friends and they stopped by Kim.
"He just shattered your record." Jerry said to Jack with a shocked expression on his face.
"And that paper-mache solar system outside the science room." Kim pointed out.
Jack furrows his eyebrows. "It looks like somebody greased his tray."
"Looks like." Truman laughed.
A confused look forms on Kate's face and she shakes her head. "But who would something like that?" She winced as Milton limped back over to them with the science project of the solar system tangled on him.
"Looks like Saturn is now lodged in the dark side of the moon." Milton commented. His friends looked at him with confusion and they grimaced upon seeing that the paper-mache Saturn was lodged between his legs.

Kate stood between Kim and Jack at practice after school, copying the movements her cousin was doing just like the others. She jumped, startled when a high-pitched scream is heard from the boy's locker room. Everyone turned around as the door to the boy's locker room opened and Kate's eyes widened upon seeing Jerry's hair was now pink. Not only was his hair pink but so was his eyebrows and leg hair.
Everyone moves off to one side of the room, laughing as Jerry continues to scream. Kate stands beside Kim and Eddie, chuckling as she crosses her arms. "Hold on." Kim points at Jerry. "Something's different. Wait, don't tell me." She pretends to not realize it's his hair color. She snaps and grins at him. "New bathrobe."
"It's my hair." Jerry scoffs. "This is what I get for showering." He looks at Rudy with furrowed eyebrows. "Rudy, what kind of shampoo are we using?"
Rudy glances at the shampoo bottle Jerry held and chuckles. "That's the same shampoo we always use."
Jerry pulls off a cover on the bottle, revealing that was just a sticker to cover what the bottle actually was. Jerry's eyes widens. "What? This isn't shampoo. It's pink hair dye."
"Dude, do you shampoo your leg hair?" Eddie questioned, pointing at Jerry's now pink colored leg hair.
Jerry puts his right leg on the bench that Jack sits on. "Bro, when I shampoo, I'm all in." Jerry responded.
"Love your new look!" Kate didn't even hear the door open and so she was a bit surprised to see Truman walk over to them. She rolls her eyes and crosses her arms. She had a feeling he was the one behind these pranks. "Awesome." Truman comments, looking at Jerry with amusement. "Just awesome."
Jack stands up and walks over to Truman. "I know you did this, Truman. Somehow you snuck in here and switched out that shampoo for pink hair dye."
Truman puts a hand over his heart and mockingly asks, "What?"
"No," Rudy chimes in. "It wasn't Truman. I've been here all day and I never once saw him ooze his way in here."
Truman shrugs and smiles. "Looks like I've got an airtight alibi." He looks at Jerry with an amused smile. "See you around, Pinky." He laughed while he walked out of the dojo.
"Pinky?" Jerry questions, his voice laced with confusion. "Why would anyone call me 'Pinky'?" He winces when Jack pulls out a strand of his hair and shows it to him. He takes it from Jack and nods in realization. "Oh! I get it."

Kate knows that Truman is somehow behind the pranks that had happened to her and her friends. He has to be the one behind it, right? He never got along with any of them and for some reason doesn't like them. First it was with Kim at the pep rally before the girl's basketball game. When she went to run through the banner, she got stuck and fell over along with the cheerleaders who tried to help her. Now she had parts of the banner still stuck to her.
Then it was Jack. He had written a letter for Heather Clark, who he had a crush on, and put it in her locker. After she read the note, he knew she would come over to talk to him, but he made sure he smelt good and looked good before she talked to him. He thought he used his cologne he often used, but somehow someone put bleu cheese in it. He hated the smell of bleu cheese, it always made him throw up...And that's exactly what he did. He threw up on Heather's shoes and then he caused the domino effect to happen with everyone.
Kate was the next target. She doesn't always wear glasses. She has a specific kind of glasses for reading. In study hall she took her glasses out of her locker to bring them with her and put them on. At the end of class, she didn't need her glasses at the moment so she took them off. Milton shared that class with her, and he was kind enough to tell her that she had black lines above her eyes and down the bridge of her nose. When she looked at her glasses, she found out someone put black sharpie on the edges around the eyes and the bridge of the nose part of the glasses. She quickly had gone to the bathroom to try and clean the black sharpie, but it wouldn't come off with just water. So, she had to go with the black lines on her face for the rest of the day which was embarrassing.
When she got to the dojo after school, she managed to get the black sharpie off with nail polish remover that she luckily had left in her locker at the dojo from the time she and Kim painted their nails there. She sat on the stack of three mats beside Jerry and Milton while Jack and Kim sat on the stack of two mats, and Eddie sat on one of the benches.
"Guys, we all know Truman's behind all these pranks." Milton said. "We just gotta figure out how he's doing it."
"Grease, hair dye, sticky paper, bleu cheese, and black Sharpie-" Jerry shrugs. "Sounds like my grandmother's medicine cabinet."
Kate looks at him weirdly, wondering how any of that fit under the medicine category. "Truman's picking us off one by one." Jack points out. "He's got all of us, except for..." Everyone turns to look at Eddie. "Eddie."
Eddie furrows his eyebrows. "What are you guys saying?"
Milton stands up and walks over to him. "We're saying you're next." He sits next to Eddie. "If I were you, I'd roll myself up in bubble wrap and sit in the basement." He nods. "I did that when my father showed me my own birth video." He looks at his friends with disgust. "Do you guys know where we come from?"
A disgusted look forms on Kate's face. "Don't say anything."
"My mother told me it was from a pumpkin patch." Eddie smiled.
Milton sighs. "I wish."
"I think what Eddie needs to hear," Jack stands up and then walks over to Eddie. He puts his left leg on the bench, leaning his elbow on it. "Is that we're gonna be there for him."
"Guys, guys," Standing up, Eddie shakes his head. "I can take care of myself."
Everyone follows Eddie as he walks over to the other bench. "No, no, no, don't worry, Eddie. We'll protect you." Jack assures him and Eddie sits down while Jack continues. "We'll walk you to school in the morning..."
"And after school we'll walk you back home." Kim added.
Milton sits down beside Eddie. "We'll be the last thing you see at night and the first thing you see in the morning." He smiles. "How do you like your eggs?"
Eddie furrows his eyebrows and stands up. "Guys, stop! I can't take it anymore!" He exclaims. "It wasn't Truman who pulled those pranks on you."
"Well, then who was it?" Jack asked.
"It was me." Eddie answered.
His friends look at him with shock and all speak in disbelief at the same time, "What?"
"Eddie, why would you prank us like that?" Jack questioned.
"Did you know what you did to me?" Kim looks at Eddie with an upset expression. "That paper was so sticky, I lost four freckles and half an eyebrow."
Kate crosses her arms, looking at Eddie with a small glare. "Everyone has been calling me Sharpie girl because of the black lines that were on my face for half of the day." Ever since people has seen the black lines on her face after study hall word got around and soon people were calling her Sharpie girl.
"And a clown keeps following me around asking me where I get my hair done." Jerry told Eddie.
Eddie looks at his friends with an apologetic expression as he sits down. "I didn't want to. Truman's been blackmailing me." Kate's eyes softened upon hearing her friend was being blackmailed. She has never been blackmailed but she knew it wasn't any good.
"How is he blackmailing you?" Milton asked him.
"Truman's father owns the security company that watches the mall." Eddie answered.
Jerry shrugs. "So?"
"One night Rudy let me stay late in the dojo to work on some moves. The thing is I wasn't working on karate moves." Kate looked at Eddie with confusion and then her eyes widened in realization when he explained he was dancing with one of the dummies that he dressed up like a girl. He added he had even kissed the dummy which she thought was weird and kind of funny. She understood why he wouldn't want that video to be on the internet, she wouldn't want that either if she was in his shoes.
"Truman saw everything from his father's office." Eddie continues. "He put it on a flash drive and unless I do whatever he says, he's going to put it on the internet." He looks at each of them with an apologetic expression. "I'm sorry, guys."
Kate looks at him with a reassuring smile, letting him know she wasn't mad at him anymore. "It's okay, Eddie." Jack assures him. He crosses his arms. "He's not going to get away with it."
"Truman's gonna be sorry he messed with us." Milton smiles. "When you poke a bear, do you know what happens?" When Eddie doesn't reply, he looks at everyone with confusion. "Seriously, does anyone know?"

That night they all wore black gis and were in the dojo with the lights dimmed. They were all gathered around a stack of four mats that had a blueprint of the mall on top. "Okay, our mission is to get into the security office and grab the flash drive out of the safe." Jack explains. "Let's go over the plan one more time."
"I'll get Truman out of the office by taking him to the parking lot and letting him shoot paintballs at me." Eddie explained his part of the plan.
Kim looks at him with furrowed eyebrows. "You think he'll go for it?"
"I'm pretty sure." Eddie opened his gi to reveal a black t-shirt underneath with colorful paint dots on it which made it look like he got paintballs shot at him.
"Okay," Kate tilts her head to the side, looking at the dark-skinned boy with raised eyebrows. "But are you sure that's the smartest idea?"
Eddie shakes his head. "Nope."
Kate nods slowly and presses her lips together. "Let's just hope it works."
"Once we're inside, I'll disarm the security system." Jack spoke.
"I'll crack the safe." Milton chimed in.
"Out in the courtyard, Kat and I will distract the guard." Kim cut in, gesturing to herself and Kate as the two girls exchanged a smile and high fived each other.
"And I'll distract the guard's dog." Jerry said.
Jack looks at him with confusion. "How are you going to distract the dog?"
"See, I don't know if you know this about me, but I was partially raised by wolves." Jerry answered.
Kate glances at him and nods. "I believe it."
"Yeah," Kim agrees. "That actually explains a lot."
"Check it." Jerry howled loudly and a few seconds later distant howls from wolves can be heard, causing his friends to look at each other with surprise.
Jerry smirks and crosses his arms. "Those are my peeps."
****
Kate and Kim dressed into yoga outfits and got their own yoga mats to bring them out to the courtyard and they also brought a stereo. They were stretching when the security guard, Joane, walks by with her security guard, King. Kate and Kim pretends to look shock upon seeing them. "You know the mall is closed, right?"
"Uh, yeah, we're sorry." Kim apologizes and Kate nods in agreement. "We were just trying to find a quiet place to try the new hottest celebrity workout." Kim lied.
"I told you that the mall is clos-" Joan stops herself in the middle of her sentence and her eyes widen. "Did you say 'new hottest celebrity workout'?"
"Yes, ma'am, she did." Kate responds. "It's a new workout everyone is doing nowadays and it combines Karate with Pilates."
"It's called, uh," Kim is quiet for a few seconds as she tries to figure out a name. "Karate-lates."
"Karate-lates." Joan's eyes widen and she smiles. "Wow." She looks at the two girls with a hopeful expression. "Do you guys think you could show me?"
"Of course." Kate nods, sending her a smile. She points at the German Sheperd. "But it's probably best to not do it in front of the dog."
Kim nods in agreement. "It's based on actual dog movements, and if he sees it..." She whispers the next part. "He'll think you're making fun of him."
Joan looks at her and nods in understanding. "Oh," She whispers. "That totally makes sense." She speaks in her normal voice as she looks at her dog. "King, take five.. Mommy's going to try some karate-lates." She let go of his leash and he ran off in the direction Joan gestured for him to go to.
Kim goes to turn on the stereo and calming music is heard. Kate hands Joan a sweat band she was holding and Joan smiles as she took it. "We're gonna sweat." She puts it on. "It's gonna get intense."
Kate glances to her right, noticing the boys have finally snuck by. "Okay, close your eyes." Kim instructed.
"Okay," Joan closes her eyes. "Can do."
"And, um..." Kim is quiet for a few seconds, exchanging a confused look with Kate since the two didn't know what to do now. "Now you should breathe like a dog." Kate quickly instructed and Kim nodded in agreement.
"Oh, okay." Joan nodded and did as she was told.
Kate and Kim looked back at the boys and gestured for them to come by while Joan is distracted. Jerry snuck by and went over to the dog who was now sitting nearby. He talked to the dog which allowed Jack and Eddie to get by without getting caught.
****
"Wow, very nice form." Kim commented.
"Impressive." Kate agreed.
"You're a fast learner. You feel the burn?" Kim asked Joan.
The two girls had tricked Joan that the pretzel move (where your legs are crossed behind your neck) was a karate-lates move. "Woo-wee, I feel it!" Joan exclaims. "Hey, look. My butt's looking better already."
Kim sneakily turns off the music and picks up the stereo while Kate rolls up the mats they brought. The two of them ran off, leaving Joan there.
****
Everyone (minus Jerry. Kate wasn't for sure where he was) gathered back at the dojo and the girls had their black gis on again like the boys still had theirs on and were now standing by the bench Eddie sat on. "Breaking into my father's office?" An angry voice asks, and Kate knew that Truman was now at the dojo. "You guys are in so much trouble!"
"We'll take whatever comes, but we had to help a friend out." Jack responded.
Truman walks over to stand in front of Jack, demanding, "I want that flash drive and I want it right now."
Jack raises his hands in defense. "Alright, alright, we'll give it back." He smiles and lowers his hands. "But first we've got another video we want you to see."
Truman scoffs. "What are you talking about?"
Kate rolls her eyes and gestures to the laptop Eddie turns to face Truman. "Just shut your mouth and watch." Truman sent her a glare and looked at the laptop as Eddie pressed play on a video.
It was a video of Eddie breaking into Truman's father's security office and setting up a camera. Then it showed Truman coming in and seeing that the flash drive was taken. He had a tantrum like a child would and even broke some stuff out of anger.
Truman stands up from bending over to get a closer look at the laptop with a shocked look on his face. Jack smirks and crosses his arms. "Doesn't feel so good when it's you, does it, Truman?"
"If that thing gets out, my life will be over!" A worried look forms on Truman's face. "I'll be known as the tantrum boy."
Kate giggles and crosses her arms. "I think it has a nice ring to it."
"Please tell me you won't post that video." Truman pleaded.
"We're not gonna post it." Kim assures him. "We're not like you, Truman."
"Hey, how about a deal? We destroy both videos and you never mess with us again, deal?" Jack suggested, putting his hand in front of Truman.
Truman immediately nods and shakes his hand. "Deal. Just delete it, please. Please!" He urgently said, turning to face Eddie.
Eddie nods and deletes the video. "You know I only, I only melted down like that because I knew the camera was there." Truman nervously laughs. "I was just putting on a show."
"Well, the show's over." Eddie stands up, shaking his head. "When you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us." His friends nods in agreement and Eddie waves at Truman. "Bye, Truman."
"Bye, Eddie." Truman sighs and turns to leave. But he stops and looks back at Eddie. "Maybe next week we can go paintball-"
"Get out." Eddie interrupted and shook his head.
After Truman left, Jack looks at Eddie with a smile. "Eddie, remember what you just told Truman, if you're in trouble, we'll always be there for you."
Eddie smiles at his friends. "Thanks, guys."
Jack looks around with confusion, just then realizing Jerry isn't with them. "Has anyone seen Jerry?"
Kate and Kim exchange a look. "Last we saw him, he was out in the courtyard." Kim explained.
Unbeknownst to the five teens, Jerry was out in the courtyard, talking to the German Sheperd.
