Chapter 02: Remember Me?
It's been 2 years since I met him, but I still can't seem to forget him. We never really crossed paths again, but for some reason I wish we would. I'm turning 18 today, which is pretty big considering that's when I'm supposed to find the one. It all sounds kind of silly to me. I'm also supposed to get my wolf, who I can't wait to meet. I've always wanted someone to always be able to confide in, other than my best friend. Someone who would always be there, and wouldn't take a sick day. As I got dressed, I felt myself grow anxious, anxious to go outside. So I went outside, and I followed what my instincts told me. I found myself in a familiar area, but I can't remember where I'd seen it.
"Hello?" I called out into the darkness. There was no reply, but I still trudged onward.. I found myself in front of a school, my curiosity got the best of me, as I opened the doors, I heard lots of voices...students. "Who's she?" A group whispered. I don't know why but they didn't seem to bother me. I ran where my instincts told me to, coming up on a door. I opened it, looking inside. There were more people here, they all looked at me like I was insane, and I probably was but I didn't care.
I walked even further into the room, opening a door that lead outside. I walked around to the back of the school where a few kids were smoking cigarettes. They were all dressed up, like that guy.... Could it be?
They were all in the same uniforms that he was in that day. I continued walking, until I stopped. I looked around until I found what my instincts told me I was looking for... him. I marched up to him. "Can I help you?" He snarled, then his face softened all of a sudden. He pulled me inside, into an empty classroom, he locked the door. "You." He said, his eyes were wide. "Why are you here? I thought I told you to stay away from me." He growled. I felt hurt by his words, but I could feel that the words hurt him too. "Well, I'm sure you figured this out by now that I don't listen." I smirked. He rolled his eyes at this. "Why are you here?" He asked again. "I don't know, I just...I felt like I needed to be here." I said honestly. He sighed, like he knew exactly why. "What?" I asked. "You're here to reject me aren't you?" His face went blank.
"Reject you? Why would I reject you? I don't even know what I'd reject you for." I shrugged. "Don't play dumb, just do it already!" He yelled. "Stop yelling. I don't know what you're talking about." I frowned. "STOP IT..STOP MAKING IT HURT WORSE!" He screamed at me, and I shrunk into my shell, feeling scared. "Stop yelling..you're scaring me." I felt tears threaten to spill. He noticed this, and just like that first day when we met, he hugged me, he held me tight against him like he was afraid if he let go, he'd lose me.
"I'm so sorry..." He whispered, shushing me like I was a crying baby...Which I kind of was. I felt sparks go through me, like when you scoot across the carpet and then touch a doorknob. "I never got your name." He smiled, trying to make me forget why I was crying. "It's...It's Lacie.." I replied. He let out a 'hmm' sound. "What a beautiful name." I felt the tears fade, a smile tugging at my lips. "I never got your name either.." I said, my voice quiet. "It's Levi." He tilted my chin upwards. "Lacie..do you feel that?" He asked. "Feel what?" I was still dumbfounded. He dragged his finger down my arm, tingles erupting everywhere. "The tingles?" He nodded, caressing my face gently. "Your heart... is it beating fast?" He whispered in my ear, his voice low. I nodded, feeling my heart race at his proximity.
He took my hand, putting it over his heart. I could feel his pulsating heart rate on my fingertips. "I'm sure you've figured it out by now, haven't you?" He looked at me. I shook my head like a child. "You're so adorably innocent..." He laughed. I felt a shiver go down my spine hearing his laugh. "All of this..." He traced his finger along my face, the sparks coming back again. "This signifies what we are.." He put his hand on top of mine and put it over my heart. "The heart race, the sparks, the warmth...that's all because of the mating bond." He explained. He put his lips to my ear, taking my earlobe between his teeth as he nibbled it. "And you...are all mine." He said possessively. I felt like at any moment I would pass out from this perfect movie-like scene.
I felt a goofy grin tug at my lips, and suddenly I felt his lips upon mine. We made out until we couldn't breathe anymore...until our lungs couldn't handle it. I pulled my head back, gasping in large breaths of air. We both laughed at how stupid we probably looked, gasping for air like fish out of water.
The rest of the day we talked about our lives, about how perfect everything was..ignoring everything else around us. We walked out of the school together, laughing. "Wait, how did you know I was your mate before I did?" I asked. "Well that school you were in is actually a college..I'm 23." He explained. I gasped. "Is that why you wanted me to leave?" He nodded. "Yea, I couldn't mark a 16 year old..that'd only add to the damn list of crimes." He muttered the last part, probably thinking I wouldn't hear it. "What do you mean crimes?!" I looked at him. "Well...This may all seem perfect..but I assure you...I'm far from perfect. That's what I told you when we first met." I frowned. "What'd you do?" I asked.
"I killed a man." He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I can't...but why?" I was shocked, he seemed like he could hurt someone..but I never thought about killing someone. "Lace...please don't leave me...I beg of you." He pleaded. "You..killed..someone." I was dazed. "Yes, and I regret it..I hate living, knowing that everyday..you'll be remembered as that one guy who killed someone." He frowned. "Why'd you do it?" I asked. "I got into a bad group of people...some drug-dealers...they make hella money." He started to explain. I already didn't like where this was going, if I'd have known this earlier..would I feel the same about him? Would I?
"I wanted to break away from my hot-shot parents who own some big corporation. They want me to take over when I'm out of college.." He continued. "I needed a way to get out, so I started dealing...then there was a guy..he was trying to kill one of my best friends, Terrance..I don't know what came over me that day..I just..all I remember was the cold metal of the trigger...the adrenaline rushing through my veins...the sound of the gunshot..then...I black out. When I wake up, I find myself in a forest...I find my way home, pretend nothing happened..but it was too late...Terrance told everyone, he wanted to get me expelled...I thought I had a friend in him..but I guess not." He sighed, I could feel the stress radiating off of him and pulled him into a hug.
"Thank you." He smiled. I nodded, holding him as tight as I could. Not only had I found my mate, but I found the man who killed my brother. My mate....was a...murderer.
