Chapter 7: *insert good chapter title*

"Socks!"

"Soooocks!"

"Where are you?"

Blaza turned to me, "I don't think we're finding him anytime soon," he said. I sighed and sat down. We had wasted a few hours searching.

"What do you think we did?" Blaza asked, sitting down next to me.

"I don't think it's us," I started, "Socks obviously has secrets, a past he doesn't want to share with us right now. I'd bet those scars had something to do with them."

"I didn't mean to overwhelm him," Blaza said defensively, "It's just everyone has secrets and is hiding so much and I just want everything to make sense instead of having to stumble around without knowing anything."

"I get it," I responded, "But sometimes people aren't comfortable sharing things. I think you need to give him a bit of space, can you do that for me?" Blaza nodded.

"Alright," I said, standing up, "Break time is over, now let's get moving."

We wandered through the maze for a while, looking for Socks. We knew that he ran off in this direction, but beyond that I had no idea. For all I knew, he had doubled back and we were on the wrong path. After a while night fell, or what we thought was night. The maze was lit by small holes in the ceiling. During 'night' light stopped coming from the roof and little blue creatures glowed all over the walls, creating a mystical atmosphere. Blaza and I found a good place to rest, and thankfully sleep came quickly.

I was floating in a void, nothing as far as I could see in all directions. This was most likely a dream, but I had seen a void like this one before being transported to the maze, so maybe I was going home.

"Is this working?" a voice called out. Now that I was looking, I could see the silhouette of someone standing in front of me.

"Yes," I answered.

"I'm risking a lot by coming here, but you need to be warned," the person said, "Beware the ones who roam the maze. When you finally fall it will not be by the hand of the enemy, but that of an ally. Your friend seeks the truth, but it will come at a great cost to him."

"What does all that mean?" I asked.

"I can't tell you everything right now," they said, sympathetic, "I normally hate cryptic messages, but I am being restricted. I hope this can help."

They vanished, and I woke up.

I sat up with a sigh. Early morning light dappled the stone floor, as the last of the glow worms retreated into the walls. I can't deny the fact that I was disappointed, I had hoped that I was going home. But, I guess that it was just a dream. I began to think about what the person had said. What did they mean by the truth? Was it what Socks was hiding? Did they mean fall like gravity, or.... will I die?
