28: APRIL 2018 - Call Me Anytime

"How long do you have to have that on?" Hoseok asked as he watched Seokjin scratching his hand over the bandages.

"Two more weeks if I'm lucky," Seokjin replied, a frown on his face as he tried to get at the itch on his left hand. "I'm goddamned tired of being disabled. Everything's ten times more difficult at work when you can only use one hand. You have no idea how annoying it is to have every secretary on my floor coming into my office to offer typing and all sorts of other services. They're constantly telling me to call them anytime if I need anything."

"Yeah. Must be so tough," Hoseok chuckled and turned back to his food. "Imagine having secretaries fighting to climb on top of you."

"Oh, very funny," Seokjin replied, clearly not amused.

They had met for dinner at a small restaurant halfway between both of their offices. It had become more challenging for all of them to meet up regularly, so they took whatever opportunity they could to hang out.

"Don't look now, but that girl in the blue dress has been eyeing you for a while now," Hoseok said. "She's practically salivating. You might not need your secretaries."

Seokjin scoffed. "Give me a break. I've not been remotely tempted by any secretary. You think I'm interested in a hookup right now?" He held up his bandaged hand.

"I don't think she'd care," Hoseok continued. "You messed up your hand, not your dick. I'm sure she won't mind."

The handsome man gave a loud sigh. "Maybe. I guess."

"Yeah. There's something about seeing you in need of help that drives some girls crazy. I'll bet she'll volunteer to do anything for you, too. You haven't been out with anyone since you and Emily broke up, right?"

Seokjin grunted in response.

"Maybe it's time you got back on that saddle," Hoseok said with a big smile. "I understand not wanting to mess with secretaries, but this girl's a stranger. You won't run into her in the break room."

"I don't think I'm ready."

"Well, ready or not, here she comes," Hoseok whispered. He turned on his brightest smile and the young woman stood by their table.

"Hello," the slender woman with strawberry-blonde hair said in a low voice. "I don't usually walk up to strangers. I won't take up too much of your time because my friends should be here soon. But I was wondering about the nature of your injury." Her eyes were on Seokjin.

He looked up at her. "It's just a ligament sprain."

"A bad ligament sprain," Hoseok added, ignoring his friend's scowl.

She nodded. "Sorry. My name's Lydia. I'm not being weird. I'm a physical therapist assistant. I wondered if you'd considered PT after the bandages come off. Your mobility might be impaired without proper therapy. Our office specializes in hand and arm injuries."

Seokjin blinked a few times. "Oh." He felt silly thinking that she had other motives. "Well, the doctor did mention it." He glanced at Hoseok. "But I haven't made any plans for PT. I didn't think it was that severe."

"Well, Mr. Bad Ligament Sprain—"

"It's Seokjin. Kim Seokjin," he interrupted with a laugh.

"Well, Mr. Kim Seokjin," Lydia continued. "I think you should make plans. You don't want to have any trouble with your hand in the future. If you would like a consultation with my PT, here's the number." She placed a business card on the table. "She's highly recommended and usually booked solid. But if you'd like, I can schedule you in. Just let me know." She paused. "My number's on the back. You can call me anytime." She looked away. "Oh, my friends are here. Nice meeting you. Have a great evening."

The two men watched her rush away to greet a woman and a man. All three of them glanced at the table and then walked away.

"That was interesting," Hoseok said. "I liked her approach. Showing concern for your well-being rather than being sly about wanting to hook up."

Seokjin eyed the card. "I don't think that's what it was."

"Oh no?" the slighter man laughed. "Call me anytime," he said in a high-pitched voice and laughed again. "You know what that means."

A waiter approached their table with two beers.

"Uh, we didn't order—"

"The ladies at that table sent them over," the young man said, setting the beers down and leaving quickly.

Both of them turned where the waiter indicated.

Lydia and another girl waved at them, indicating for them to go over.

With a shrug, both men stood up, grabbed the beers, and walked to their table. It seemed that the male friend had to leave suddenly, and they wondered if the two of them wouldn't mind keeping them company to avoid being hassled by unwanted men.

Hoseok bumped Seokjin into a chair before he sat down.

Surprisingly enough, the evening went well. Seokjin hadn't had a carefree evening in a while. They laughed as they joked about their various jobs and interests.

Lydia invited them to her family's ranch over the weekend. She had to go tend to her horse.

"I know you can't ride at the moment," she said to Seokjin. "But we can do other stuff as well. It's not a huge ranch, but we have a nice pool. We can just sit around and have a few laughs."

"Oh, yes, we could," Hoseok chimed in, looking at Seokjin. "Besides, once he's all better, he'll be back in the saddle in no time."

"Oh? You like to ride?" Lydia turned her attention to Seokjin.

"Does he ever," Hoseok chuckled, earning him a kick under the table from his friend.

"That settles it then," the young woman announced brightly. "You're coming with me."
