Chapter 3: The Fate of Two
There was a trashcan close to the bench. I removed its lid before scavenging through its contents; a material that I could probably make use of. In the midst of all the junk, there were a few plastic cups, cans, and a single men's magazine. I took it out, it was a bit old: it was damp, dirtied, and filled with trash smell. I didn't care about though, I found it really useful. Quickly I flip through pages seeing male models in underwear and whatever form of undergarments men wear; kind of awkward because this is the first time I've seen such things, I think. Finally I found a suitable style of clothing on the tenth page of the magazine. In the page showed a half cover of a tall young man dressed in a shade of deep blue long-sleeved shirt (unbuttoned) wearing a white shirt beneath, with jeans. The style caught my interest, and a thought came to me.
"Good for a disguise." I nodded my head in approval.
I looked across over the lake; a lot of trees and bushes to hide around for no one to notice. Still wet and magazine in hand I got close to ponds water. It wasn't deep and was just twelve meters wide. My feet landed on the water's surface sending ripples. I took another step before I took a sprint on water. I jumped over a few water lilies but made no splashes at all once I landed on the other side, to be honest, it was kind of cool for me to do something like this. Once I was on land I went behind a tree with large bushes adjoined next to it. I look once more at the page, then pictured the image in my mind before placing my hand on my shoulder. The hospital gown I wore then slowly turned into a deep blue color, then the fabric turned into cotton and later the materials transformed them self into exactly what the model was wearing; though, my jeans had to appear from thin air by having small particles coming together and building up to turn into the pants I wanted. Now I wore the exact same thing as the model, but there was something missing.
"Crap, the pages only showing the upper half of his body with his legs," I face-palmed my forehead, "Where are the shoes?"
I flip the pages again and found a pair of black sneakers; I chose those to wear. With a swift movement, I stretched my arm into the page, it went through; something like having to put your hand in a bucket of water. I felt a soft object on the other side, then another one before pulling them out of the page; and there it was the shoes were mine to wear. Throwing the now useless magazine away, I wore my brand new shoes and got out of hiding. I left the area and strolled around the park to find someplace else. While I walked around the park looking at different areas, in retrospect the park wasn't as abundant as the forest. There were a lot of man-made objects like sculptures, benches, and all the typical stuff you see in a small park; though, I was still in a more isolated part in the park, which had a few people came by. Finally, I came to an area where there were people. It was in an open area that was probably the side of a football field (I don't know how a football field looks like exactly, I'm just referring to the size). More than a dozen people were there having their picnic with some having their small activities.
"I smell gross," I said sniffing the odor.
Not to feel embarrassed if someone ever caught my smell I had to manipulate the odor and turn the smell into a smell of sweet perfume.
"Ah, I smell better now."
I entered the field to walk around, letting my mind be fascinated by seeing people doing things that it made me wish I could join them in their chats and enjoyments; that's the kind of life I wanted to be in. The breeze was calm with clouds floating by in the sky, no wonder why everyone's here. I let whispers pass through my ears and read every thought inside the heads of the people who were present.
'Damn, I wonder if the kids are going to make it on their own,' a forty-year-old father dressed in a white polo thought, sitting on a mat with her wife while reading a book.
'Hope Dave doesn't know I screwed up the program last night,' a high-school graduate nervously sitting next to his friend Dave thought in his mind while listening to the conversations of his fellow friends.
This was getting all too interesting until I stumbled across something that made me froze in my place. In the middle of the open field was a small group of friends -- about ten of them. Two of them were playing with a frisbee while the rest were all in a circle gossiping about school life; eight were girls and three of them were male. In the midst of the group sat a girl, she was so pretty. She was the reason why in a trance. Call me weird, but all of us has that one moment where we are left bedazzled by a single individual.
