Chapter-52
"Ah, Amyra!" Uncle Josh spoke. "Shocked to find out who's working with me?"
I remained quiet. 'Shocked' would be too much of an understatement.
"You got astray for a while Xaviers," Uncle Josh scoffed, turning to Kelvin. "But now you know that love won't give you anything."
"I gave you everything," he added in a higher pitch for emphasis.
What did he give him?
"Well Mr. Valdez, you can't disagree with the fact that I played the smarter part here," Kelvin replied with a mild smirk, releasing my mouth from his clasp.
"So smart that Miss Amyra almost believed that I was deeply in love with her or something," he continued as if those words meant nothing.
I wish they didn't.
It hurt so much more when I heard them from his mouth. So freaking much that I wished he had killed me before saying all these. He wasn't even looking at me.
I felt disgusted. I had been used.
He helped Uncle Josh to kill Uncle Dave and Pappa. He even attempted to kill me, and when he couldn't, he just played with my feelings to destroy me from inside. I didn't know why he did all these, that didn't even matter now actually.
I just hated him, hated him even more than I had loved him.
"Indeed," Uncle Josh replied. "Good that you came back to track on time."
"Uncle Josh-" I gasped.
"Yes Amyra," he addressed back with a smile that radiated vice. "Long time no see."
"What had your elder brothers ever done to you-?" I spurted the words. "They always- adored you-so much."
"Adored me huh," he derided.
"They never gave me a fraction of the rights. The property was supposed to be equally divided after our parents' death, but your Uncle Dave and Pappa wanted to dominate over their younger brothers. And in case you didn't know, they were no great man either. Only if you knew about their countless misdeeds to which they escaped just because Brother Nick and I always remained shut-"
"You don't still feel a bit of guilt," I cut him off with contempt.
I couldn't just accept the fact that he could stoop so low...
"Yes I know that I shouldn't have killed them perhaps," he muttered, faking pangs of conscience.
"Perhaps?" I reiterated the word.
How come he didn't feel ashamed yet?
"And I didn't mean to kill Brother Nick," he sighed.
"He came in my way himself by collecting evidence against me. I just needed to stop him."
There wasn't a touch of remorse on his face.
"And I'm going to remove every living soul who comes in my way," he announced in the most serious tone.
The menacing note in his voice made every hair on my body stand.
He was staring at me.
"Don't you think she should die in your hands, Xaviers?" Uncle Josh asked as his lips curled into a nasty smile.
To my surprise, Kelvin didn't give any reaction, as if he knew about it beforehand.
Had they both planned it together?
"Just do it," Uncle Josh urged, taking out a gun from his own pocket.
Kelvin took a couple of moments before replying, "No."
He denied. He couldn't kill me.
"No?" Uncle Josh repeated, furrowing his brows.
"When will you learn, Mr. Valdez?" Kelvin commented.
Uncle Josh stared at him intensely.
"Do you think we will murder her here, in this office building, and we can get away with it?"
"There are no CCTV cameras in this room," Uncle Josh emphasized, giving a quick scan of the room.
"As if it takes a group of expert spies to find out a dead body in a public building," Kelvin pointed out.
"Hmm," Uncle Josh agreed. "Makes sense. What then?"
"Let's go somewhere else," Kelvin suggested.
And here I thought he was planning to save me...
Uncle Josh took a while to consider that. He didn't seem to trust Kelvin entirely.
"Very well, but I'll choose the place," he answered finally, getting up from the chair.
"Fine," Kelvin responded. "Not interested to bargain over choosing a murder spot anyways."
"Go where?" I spoke at last.
"I'm not going anywhere with you two."
"This is not an option," Uncle Josh imposed, taking the lead.
"Follow us," Kelvin muttered without looking at me.
"I'm not following anyone," I gasped.
"Amyra, please," Kelvin whispered vaguely.
"Excuse me, what please?" Uncle Josh questioned, hearing Kelvin's hushed voice.
"You're not requesting her okay, it's an order," he said strictly.
"Come," Kelvin uttered while dragging me with him this time.
"Leave me!" I protested, trying my best to resist being pulled by him.
No use, we were inside the elevator now. I didn't see any way of escaping. I didn't even have my phone with me.
Where was June? Did they get him too?
"Act normally," Uncle Josh warned.
"If you try to act smart here, then your Uncle Nick loses his life there."
It was as if that sentence had sealed a lock over my mouth.
"Uncle Nick-?"
"Yes you heard that correct," Uncle Josh whispered intensely.
"Someone is watching over him very closely, you see."
There was yet another person involved with him?
"Just one phone call away," he added.
No, I couldn't risk Uncle Nick's life if that was the case indeed.
I followed them silently in dread, not finding any option for escaping. I knew that I couldn't run away, Kelvin would be just too fast for me.
My eyes were constantly searching for Jonas. He was my last hope.
"June-" I attempted to call him out for one last time before leaving the building, but Kelvin clasped my mouth right on time.
A lightning bolt flashed across the furious sky, ripping it into two. A peal of thunder followed, deadening with the announcement of an incessant downpour.
Kelvin's bike was just a few meters from where we were standing. Apart from the bike, the parking lot was vacant.
June's Ferrari wasn't there.
