Chapter 3
The first place I was shoved into was what I call ‘The Make You Fake Room.’ It makes sense, they try to change who you are. First, they waxed my body, which hurt a lot, then they started plucking my eyebrows, and after that they cut some of my hair. Then they filed my nails and scrubbed my body vigorously. After that they added the final touch of make-up. This may seem like nothing, and it might seem like it didn’t take a long time, but all of this took three and a half hours. I hated all of it.
I knew I would despise it even more when my stylist came in. She had bright orange hair that stuck out all over the place. She had cat whiskers that actually came out of her skin. Her body was even orange and covered in black stripes. Please don’t make me a tiger! “Hello Darling!” the tiger lady cried out, in her high capitol accented voice, as she walked up and hugged me. “My name is Tyra, but everyone calls me Tiger.” “Ok Tiger.” “Well, Lolli, Thresh’s stylist, and I were thinking, let’s be traditional. You and Thresh are both going to farmers!" How original. “I already have your outfit ready! Follow me!” I followed her into a very small room, where an outfit was laid on top of a table.
I looked closely at the costume. It was a light blue shirt with puffy sleeves and denim overalls. There was also a silver crown that was shaped like wheat. I was surprised, it actually looked semi-decent. At least she didn’t make me into a crop like they did to the tributes of District 11 last year. “Now go on! Try it on.” “Ok. Are you going to leave?” “No, I’m used to it, just change in front of me.” That’s something I don’t want to do. I took off my clothes very quickly as I kept an eye on Tiger. Then I quickly put on the costume as I continued to keep an eye on Tiger.
“You look marvelous!” Tiger exclaimed in her silly capitol accent. I looked down at the costume, it was soft, comfy, and better than all the clothes I have ever worn in District 12. Tiger led me to the mirror in the corner of the room. Tiger was right, I was marvelous, but I didn’t think that was a good thing.
Tiger and Lolli helped Thresh and I onto the chariot. It was pure gold with two white horses at the front. I only had enough time to say goodbye to Tiger before we took off. I looked at the tributes in front of me, they all had different costumes, some beautiful and some silly. Then I turned around to see District 12, I was hoping they weren’t nude and covered in black dust this year. My eyes nearly flew out of my head. They both had flames coming off of them, it was truly beautiful.
I remembered the girl who called for her sister to come back, the one that volunteered for her sister. She was behind me, clothed in flames. I hope she doesn’t burn. I knew that wasn’t possible. I don’t know why, but I don’t think Katniss Everdeen will ever die of flames.
