London
If London was a man... he would have broken my heart,
Somewhere between Embankment Pier and Southwark, have claimed my soul
Under grey and cloudy skies his eyes would have lit the skyline by the Thames' rhythmic flow
And, when the gates at Tower Bridge ceased all traffic north and south,
My Earth would pause and wait for the barest whisper from his mouth
Then, with the unpredictability of the Circle line he'd wring my anxious hands,
Only to warm them in his own by the glow of the West End, Strand
I would feel bustled, breathless and lost in the Oxford Circus of his heart,
Never knowing where his eyes would rest
But, then the sun would shine on Eros in the 'morn and all my doubts would vanish,
- with the beauty of London's dawn.
