Chapter 7: The Rescue Journey
If you lived in that city and looked up at the sky, you would have seen the weirdest flock of birds ever. A parrot, raven, eagle, and cardinal, flying together over the city. It was so busy in the city, nobody noticed what was overhead. My friends were smart and flew above the clouds once reaching the city's border. They knew it was dangerous. It was very likely we all lived there before coming to the forest. We don't remember, though. It's just a memory that we don't like to think about.
"Where is she?" called Dylan, the eagle. "She has to be somewhere." If you weren't a bird and heard the conversation, you would only hear bird calls and screeches, so don't try to listen unless you're part bird.
"She's somewhere here, I know it!" It was Alecia the cardinal, the one who hadn't said a word after her big speech. Seriously, it seems like that girl only has a certain limit of words she can say in a day.
"Anyone remember what the truck looked like?" asked Miranda. "I saw it, and I don't remember anything except it was big, and gray, and big, and, uhh...gray, and..."
Dylan cut in. "Miranda, we get it. It's big and gray. You've repeated it a lot on this flight now. We need to know where the truck went, not what it looked like over and over again."
Skylar hadn't said a word the whole time. His mind was set on finding me, and getting revenge on the people who dared to touch me. He just knew I was okay. I was the strongest in the group, the bravest, the fastest, the fiercest, the most determined, the most capable, the one who kept everyone going. Okay, I would describe myself as any of those except the last one. It was all Skylar was thinking about.
They saw a building, and the exact truck that took me away was there, in a garage. "I TOLD YOU!!!" Miranda screeched, "SEE?! IT'S THE TRUCK THAT TOOK SYLVIA!"
"Ugh, Miranda..." said Dylan. "We know. Let's just focus on getting her back."
They all dove down to the entrance of the garage and changed back. They knew nobody was there. "Let's go get her back," said Alecia.
Thing was, they didn't realize I was already out and looking for my home.
