Chapter Two
You know what really pisses me off about these sort of stories? That they focus a bit too much on how abuse effects the people around that person instead of the person who is actually being abused.
Also, get them a damn therapist, geez.
That's mainly why I decided to write First POV from Jay and Nya's perspective, just to actually write from both the victim's perspective and the people around them.
Finally, I saw plenty of comments saying Nya's behavior was bad and wrong from what was said in the prologue. Of course and it was, but all I'll say is to give it some time 😉.
Onto the story!
Jay's POV
I slammed the door shut behind me, looking at the other three in the room.
"So we can all agree that that guy is definitely not trustworthy, right?" I said as the others nodded along. At least he's gone now.
"We don't actually have any proof of inappropriate behavior aside from his form of speech," Zane explained. "I think we should wait before jumping to conclusions."
I wanted to yell at him, but deep inside I knew he was right. He's always right about everything, after all.
"Hey, at least we get to have a sleep over," Cole said. "Too bad I don't have the ingredients to make us some snacks or something."
Maybe not do that.
"And I get to have a sister to gossip with all over again," Lloyd squealed.
A sister?
"So am I the only one finding this weird?" I glared at the two in front of me. "You guys literally dated in the past and all of a sudden she's your sister?" I yelled a little too loudly before Zane shut me up.
"If you can even call it dating," Lloyd laughed with Cole soon joining in.
"What do you mean?" I placed my hands on my hips. They were dating Nya for crying out loud, how can that be a bad thing?
"We dated for like what, two weeks?" Cole said, "I don't even think we got past the holding hands stage."
"All I got was a peck on the cheek and we were together for three months!" Lloyd complained. You should be appreciative of what you get, jerk.
Nya was never the touchy-feely type of person, everyone knew that by now. I would be lying if I said I wasn't glad she was that way while she was dating these two buffoons, but I guess that's just me being jealous.
"Why did you even date then?" I crossed my arms.
"Because we were hormonal teenagers who didn't know what love is?" Lloyd answered immediately.
"That was like almost two years ago!"
"And I'm still a child at heart."
"Whatever," I pouted my lip. "Can you guys go check on her? I have some things to do."
Well, cleaning my room at 9PM isn't the best thing in the world, but it's still better than having to face Nya again. I know for a fact she can rip people in half, why hasn't she done that to me or that jerk already?
I guess the best I can do right now is make her feel comfortable in my room for the night.
Nya's POV
As the door closed, I felt my shoulders finally relax. At least I got rid of him... for now, at least.
"So how has college been? Will you start bringing injured octopi home?" Kai joked.
I've been hearing that joke since Senior year of high school, but it never fails to make me chuckle every time.
"Marine biology isn't just about that, you know," I said rather quietly. When did my voice get so quiet? Or maybe everyone else's started to get louder?
"Yeah, I know. But this is Stiix we're talking about," he told me. "With all that much pollution, I bet we'll serve three-eyed fish in the future."
As if I like eating fish in the first place. Maybe that's why I didn't decide to study chicken biology... Like a wise man once said, you can't get attached to what you love eating.
I sat on the couch, my gaze shifting from the ground to my suitcase and vice versa. I kept thinking about this little 'agreement' I didn't have a say in.
Why does he want me to spend an entire day with Morro? To torture me more, I guess. I thought I got my punishment by just dating the guy, but apparently the universe wants me to marry him.
"About Morro..." Kai started, when we were suddenly interrupted by four guys barging into the room.
"We've got board games, snacks and movies!" Cole exclaimed, holding popcorn and chips in his arms.
"You told them about my junk stash?" Kai glared at Jay, who only shrank back to the wall.
"They found out on their own..."
I couldn't help but hold back a laugh. Although Jay wasn't the bravest person in the world, he always had some cockiness in him. I guess Kai's cockiness knows how to put him in his place, though.
Before I could return to my thoughts, I was met with a bunch of DVDs shoved in front of my face.
"Pick and choose," Lloyd smiled.
I pushed his hand back, tilting my head once I realised what they were. "They're all Fritz Donnegan films..." I pointed out the obvious.
"Well, they were in Jay's room, so what did you expect?" he rolled his eyes and pointed at the third one. "Look, this one is a crossover with Clutch Powers!"
Zane pushed him aside, showing me one of the board games. "I think you would prefer to play a board game. This one in particular is highly beneficial to the left side of your brain—"
It was his turn to be pushed aside, this time by Cole. "We're not playing Scrabble, you nerd," he glared at Zane. "But we're totally teaching you how to play Fist2Face 2! The new one will arrive in a few days, but I think you'll manage with the second one."
"Guys," Kai interrupted them all, who were admittedly getting a little too close for my own liking.
I owe you one, porcupine.
"Let the girl settle in first, geez," he rolled his eyes, getting up and making his way behind me.
He reached for my jacket. "You've been wearing that jacket all day, I think you can take it off now—"
"No!" I yelled a little too loudly, clinging onto the jacket for dear life.
"Okay then..."
I quickly cleared my throat. Not now, Nya... "I'm just tired. You guys can have your...sleepover."
I stood up, grabbed my suitcase and sat on the dining table. "I'll just wait till you guys are done with everything so I can go to sleep."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Lloyd asked me.
"It means that I'm sleeping on the couch."
"You're what?" They all exclaimed at the same time.
I clenched my fists. Yeah, it's other people who've gotten louder.
"Yeah, you're sleeping in my room," Kai said.
I'm already a burden, why do I have to be a spoiled brat as well? "I'll just stay here for tonight, after all."
Somehow, he didn't argue with that. Did I really just win an argument against Kai?
I was about to hide behind the hallway, probably go to the bathroom and change, when a familiar voice stopped me.
"You can sleep in my room," Jay said softly.
Why was he so quiet?
"It's fine," I said, not even turning to face him.
"Yeah, Jay, it's fine."
Even without my vision, I could still feel Kai shooting daggers at Jay behind me.
Jay spun around to defend himself. "I have cleaned my room from...well, everything, first of all," he said. "And I was planning on staying up and playing video games all night anyway."
Honestly, he's a worse liar than Kai.
"I'll allow it for now," Kai declared. "But no funny business."
I wanted to object, I wanted to actually talk and spend time with them.
But what if they're just like him?
I haven't seen most of them in a year. Have they gotten stricter? Maybe they're the shouting type too; they seemed pretty loud from what I could tell.
But I couldn't.
I mean, he started out as nice too.
What if they hate me after everything I've done? I can't deny Jay's words either; I really am just dragging everyone into my relationship drama.
Maybe not now.
Nodding, I disappeared in the hallway.
