Um, so I'm sorry for releasing all of these chapters at once. That means that unless inspiration strikes, it'll be a few weeks till you can get another chapter.
But I'm currently close to finishing my second original book, so I need more time to focus on that. And I needed a break anyways tbh.
Anyways, this is a bit of a smaller chapter, still hope you enjoy it!
Hope you understand :).
Nya's POV
When I woke up, I was immediately struck with a familiar smell. A strange aroma I had grown to know very well. It was a mixture of cotton candy, spoiled Cheetos and mechanical oil.
Yup, this is Jay's room alright.
It isn't the best smell in the world, but it's better than that one time when he wore perfume or 'Men's Cologne' as Kai called it. Now that I think about it, maybe it wasn't Jay's mistake...
Who am I kidding, I'm just distracting myself from my current situation. I looked at the white window—probably the one thing in this room that wasn't blue—and closed my eyes again.
"Five more minutes," I thought to myself over and over as I nuzzled against the fuzzy blanket.
The light wasn't helping though and I was in no place to move from my warm fortress to close the curtains.
I turned over, opening my eyes slightly—
I threw a pillow at him.
"What do you think you're doing?" I yelled at him, covering my arms and torso with the blanket. It's not the best thing to wake up to Jay freaking Walker staring at you in your sleep.
What did he plan on doing?
No, Jay isn't that type of guy.
Is he?
He cleared his throat, placing the pillow back below my head. "I didn't mean to scare you," he said. "Um, breakfast is ready, by the way."
I slowly nodded.
"I'll go out now..." he excused himself, but just before he disappeared through the door, I saw him pull out his phone from his jacket's pocket.
What was he up to?
Jay's POV
I pulled out my phone, trying to navigate through my millions of contacts. I don't even know half of these people!
I gave up, opening our group chat on Chirp.
I typed quickly, with half the words coming out as gibberish.
After receiving a few question marks in response, I wrote the sentence floating around my mind yet again.
"Nya has bruises."
They weren't exactly visible, but they sure as heck were there. And with her covering her arms last night—it all lined up.
I closed my phone for a second, before being spammed with messages all over.
"Yes, I'm sure," I mumbled the words I typed in out loud.
As I read Kai's message, it suddenly struck me.
"I'll be back in a few hours. Make sure you don't get her into any trouble. And if he comes over, just call me."
I was alone with Nya.
No, no, that couldn't be happening. That was all just a weird fever dream and when I woke up Nya would have been next to me with our two kids and our puppy and—
"Jay?"
Her just saying my name sent chills down my spine. "Yeah?" I croaked out before clearing my throat again.
She grasped the hallway's arch rather tightly. "Where is Kai?"
Here it goes... "In a lecture."
"What about everyone else?"
"In a lecture," I said more quietly.
"Why aren't you in a lecture?"
Because I wanted to spend time with you. "Because Kai told me to watch over you?"
She sighed, her arms folding over her chest. "I can take care of myself."
I was not about to argue with Nya about that of all topics, so I just bit my tongue and made my way towards the kitchen.
I picked up the plate from the counter, set it down on the table along with the I hope not spoiled juice box and called her over.
I pulled the chair back and let her sit down before I plopped down on the chair opposite to her.
"We haven't gone grocery shopping yet, but I hope you still like it..."
Sure, grilled cheese and fried eggs aren't the most ideal breakfast, but I had to work with what I had. Which reminds me...
"Open it."
She eyed me curiously. "What?"
"Open the toast."
Raising a brow, she raised the top bun. Looking between the melted cheese, she smiled.
"You drew a smiley face?"
My cheeks started heating up. Great. "I mean, I thought it would cheer you up, though I don't know if you like ketchup," I blabbered, when another question popped into my mind. "Why are you wearing a leather jacket inside?"
I already knew the answer, but at the same time, I didn't want to pressure her. All I could do was smile while asking.
She didn't answer.
Okay, plan B. "I mean, no offence, but it smells like cigarettes—wait, you haven't been smoking, have you?"
She shook her head. "Someone was smoking on the bus, that's all."
Now that's something I don't believe. But I do believe that Nya is absolutely not a smoker. I'm guessing that it's the jerk.
"Well, I'm sure Kai has some extra jackets in his closet. I have some too if you want any."
Okay, so I may have added that last part in hopes of the latter happening.
She nodded, getting up and making her way to the hallway.
I'm not gonna lie, curiosity was killing me. She still hadn't given me a clear answer, which was only more frustrating.
I mean, blue is her favourite colour, right? She likes blue, right? Of course and she would choose my jacket over Kai's.
Right?
When I looked up, she was wearing a red, oversized jacket. I guess it was worth a shot.
"Why don't you go to the supermarket now?" she asked me, eating her grilled cheese as if she didn't notice the disappointment in my eyes.
Seriously? Not even one glance?
"Well, I can't leave you here alone in case your jerk of a boyfriend comes back," I shot at her.
Her eyes met with mine. "What are you talking about?"
Well, crap. "Nothing. I'm just waiting for him to pick you up so I can go to my lecture."
Her eyebrows came closer together as she bit her lip. "Sorry for being such a burden."
A burden? She thinks she's a burden for staying one night?
"I didn't mean it like that," I reached my hand out to her, but she moved further away.
"You never mean it like that," I heard her whisper to herself.
Oh.
"Look, um, we have some things to address—"
"I'll be in Kai's room," she said and started walking away.
As she hid behind the walls yet again, I groaned, burying my face in my hands.
Great, so now she's mad at me. She probably thinks I'm going to sell her off to that guy as well. Not to mention how she thinks I'm a creep who likes to watch her sleep.
I mean, she is cute when she's sleeping, but that's besides the point.
At least we have the proof we need to get him away from her.
