Chapter Four

Can I just start by saying that as a lady myself, I have no idea about anything regarding lady products? I mean, I get what makes me comfortable, but I don't know categories and prices for stuff like that.

This will make sense in the chapter btw.

Finally, I am just so disappointed in my writing right now so let's see what I've got...

Onto the story!

Nya's POV

A few hours had passed by now, but Kai's room got boring after like five minutes.

He doesn't have many things to do, really. An red, electric guitar he gave up on playing, two photo albums (one for family and one for him and Skylor) and...that's basically it.

Compared to Jay, he didn't bother to clean the room. Then again, Jay didn't clean it on his own.

There was one thing I could do and that was catch up on my classes. Then again, that would mean that I would have to go into Jay's room again without him noticing.

So let's look at the possibilities; if I get caught, he'll probably yell at me. If I don't, he'll be lonely for another few hours.

It was worth a shot.

I sat up from Kai's bed, opened the door and tried to peek through the hallway.

Nope, no one in the living room.

Next, I knocked on his door. And again. And again.

No response.

Maybe he's in the bathroom. Let's just hope he isn't sleeping.

I opened the door slowly, popping my head through the half-open door as my eyes scanned the room.

"Where are you, Walker?" I whispered to myself.

What am I thinking? I need to focus on the laptop.

I quickly picked up my luggage in my arms and honestly, I seriously need to stay in shape. I mean, yeah, I'm quite athletic, but I haven't gone to the gym in like three months. Then again, it's not like I had the time.

I threw it on Kai's bed, but just before I could open it...I stopped.

Do I really want to stay away?

I know he's a jerk and all, but I guess I should try and be nice to him—

No, what am I thinking? He's been the same lovable idiot since I left. Which is...a bad thing? I have no idea at this point.

Fine, just this once.

I slowly exited the room, slowly tiptoeing my way to the kitchen. But when I got there, it was empty.

I was about to leave again, when I spotted a note next to my breakfast.

I'm at the supermarket. Text me if you need anything :).

-Jay

Huh. I guess he went after all.

I mean, I told him to do so, I shouldn't be that surprised. But deep inside, I still feel disappointed.

My lip quivered a little. Am I really getting sad over him going to the supermarket?

Well, he didn't say goodbye. But neither did I.

Stop being a burden, Nya.

I went back to Kai's room and grabbed my laptop, setting it down on the dinner table.

The grilled cheese had gotten cold by now, but I'm just glad it was there. I'm not planning on eating anything later, but this will do for now, I guess.

I looked through the university's website, rolling my eyes at the loans page. Yet another excuse to run away; not being in debt my entire life.

I clicked the lessons page, seeing a video recording of today's lesson.

Nice one, Walker.

I started watching it, almost falling asleep on my plate as the professor's voice echoes in my ears.

Just as I closed my eyes, leaning onto the table, the doorbell rang.

He forgot his keys, didn't he?

Or maybe it's Kai and I'm saved.

Or...let's not talk about that.

I tried to make as little noise as possible when I made my way to the door. I stood on my toes, looking through the peephole—

Jay's POV

Damn, I need to go to the gym. I can barely even carry shopping bags, but then again, they do have like two packets with six energy drinks each.

I rehearsed the grocery list in my mind again.

So aside from the basics, Kai needed a new toothbrush, chips and hair gel. Check.

I needed energy drinks, Cheetos and cotton candy. Half check, the bakery was closed today. And they make the best cotton candy, too...

Okay, so lastly is Nya. We have lady stuff (or at least I think those are lady stuff), cereal, those dark chocolate bites she used to pig out on, also a new toothbrush just in case, extra pens and textbooks and—

Okay, so I may have spent a little too much on Nya. But check nevertheless.

I scrolled through my phone as I—mistakenly—made the decision to balance all the shopping bags in my hand.

I walked through the hallway, looking up to open the door—

Why now?

"Waller?" Morro said behind me, towering above me.

I spun around quickly, laughing nervously. "It's Walker, actually—"

"Where's Nya?"

Straight to the point, I see. "Oh, um, she texted me a few minutes ago. She's in the shower, yeah..." I showed him my phone, dropping the shopping bags as I started searching for my keys.

Crap, why are pockets so deep?

"We'll wait inside then."

He took a few more steps towards me. Oh no.

"No, no, I'm sure she's out by now," I said, kicking the shopping bags inside of the apartment. "I'll just—"

I ran inside, quickly slamming the door shut as I locked it quickly. I sank against it, letting out a shaky breath.

That wasn't one of my brightest ideas.

Before I could relax, I jolted up again when the door knocked.

Okay, calm down, let me just

"Jay?"

I looked up to see Nya looking beautiful as ever in probably the most crumpled PJs I had ever seen, holding her toast on one hand and her phone in the other.

When I took a look at her face, though, it was redder then ever as her lip quivered a little.

I took her hand in mine, leading her back to my room, surprisingly without her protesting at all.

We ran inside and closed the door.

I pulled out my phone, quickly searching through my contacts. I didn't want Kai to get hurt, but I also knew that that guy would put me in a coma.

I texted Kai to come here, but he left me on read. I guess he knew what I meant.

Now, back to Nya.

She was sitting on my bed her hands wrapped around her stomach as her head was buried in her knees.

I guess she knows he's here, too.

I thought for a bit. Should I really remind her of that guy? It's not like I want to make her even more stressed than she already is.

I guess it's time to cast my Jay magic on her.

"So, Nya, I just came back from the supermarket," I said, sitting down next to her and tucking myself under the blankets.

No response.

"I got you some lady stuff," I said, earning a curious but intrigued look from her. I blushed, "I mean, I don't really know what you usually get, so I just got one from each size."

"Size?"

"Yeah?" I croaked out.

She looked down again, giggling a little. "You're funny."

I'm funny? She likes my jokes? Well, that wasn't really a joke, but still. She thinks I'm funny?

"Kai should come home soon."

"Yeah," she said. "Listen, I've got something to settle outside—"

"No!" I pulled her back on the bed and in my arms.

"What the heck, Walker?"

Okay, too soon. "I mean, don't you just want to talk with me? We have plenty of things to talk about—"

"We have nothing to talk about," she squiggled out of my grip. "Now, if you'll excuse me—"

Both of us gasped when the door opened. Nya stumbled back onto the side of the bed, leaving us both speechless.

A frowning Kai was on the other side, holding one of his hands over his eye. When he revealed what was behind it, though, he smiled.

"Hey sis," he said, running his hand over his bleeding scar.
