Chapter Five
Yes, I know I need to up my word count.
Anyways, I think I'll be updating this book a bit more often than Crafted Hearts. They're both Jaya books, so feel free to check that one out if you haven't.
Onto the story! 三三ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ
Nya's POV
He got hurt. And it was my fault. It's always my fault.
I placed my arm over his bandaged eye, trying to fix something, even though we both knew I couldn't.
He didn't act like he was in a lot of pain, but I could just feel it inside of him.
Was he blind? No, he would've told me.
Right?
"Sis?" Kai told me, gesturing at his eye. "The bandage."
It was only then that I realised I was basically squeezing his eye. "Oh, right. Sorry," I said. "Are you sure you don't want to go to a doctor?"
He shook his hand dismissively. "Nah, I should be fine in a month or so. It's just a scar."
"I still can't believe he used a key of all things to attack you," Jay mumbled in the back, scrolling through his phone. Gee, thanks for caring.
"Well, I won anyway so who cares," he said with his iconic cocky smirk before he turned back to me. "And now that he's gone, I've got a lot of plans for you, missy."
Plans?
Like, violent type of plans?
'Put me up for adoption' type of plans?
My mind was filled with thoughts that kept turning on and off every second.
Is he going to kick me out?
"Jay, did you text Lloyd? We don't have all day, you know."
Phew. At least they're ignoring me for now.
Jay nodded, handing his phone over to Kai, but I couldn't help but notice the little symbol on his phone case. It was an octopus, except it had an electric theme to it. Its head was in the shape of a cloud while its tentacles were shaped like lightning bolts.
I remember Jay telling me the story a long time ago. He and Cole went to an aquarium when they were ten, I think, and Jay got scared by an octopus smashing head-first onto the glass. I think the power went out as they were going to the gift shop and, well, he cried.
I think it was Cole who drew him that thing after the incident. It was a pretty cute design, actually. He did have a creative mind when he was younger, so I'm assuming that transitioned to his cooking.
Now, this transition was more like a 'stones in my kidneys' type of transition. Not the smoothest one, per se, but it was still a transition.
"Nya, we want to talk to you about something very important," said Kai, taking my hands in his. Is it too late to go back to daydreaming about the electric octopus?
I nodded.
"Well, remember Lloyd's uncle?"
"The therapist?"
"Yes, the dude with the long beard."
I frowned. "What about him?"
"Well, we were thinking that maybe you could...go over there and speak with him?"
"Why would I—" Wait, they aren't thinking of— "I don't need therapy!" I shouted.
"Nya, it's for your own good," Kai told me. "After what happened with that abusive—"
"Morro is not abusive!" I yelled. "What, just because he doesn't have table manners he's abusive? Because he's not!"
His face stiffened. "We saw the bruises, Nya."
My eyes widened as I quickly made sure my arms were covered. I held the jacket close to me. "You didn't..." I mumbled to him, tears forming in my eyes.
They can't have! I've been covering for four months, how did they manage to see them now? Am I the one who's going crazy?
Kai sighed. Was he mad at me? "We did, Nya. Jay sent us photos this morning."
I looked behind Kai to see Jay awkwardly fidgeting with his hands. When he caught my gaze, he let out a nervous chuckle. "So, funny story—"
"So that's why you were watching me sleep, you creep!" I stood up and faced him, my fists clenched. "I can't believe you would do something like that! Stop ruining my life!"
"He's just trying to help, Nya."
"I don't care what he's trying to do! I'm not going there because I don't need to!"
Kai gritted his teeth as his eyebrows furrowed. "Well, you're going to therapy and that's final."
"How are you even going to pay?"
"We'll figure that out later. Now go change, we're supposed to meet him in an hour—Where do you think you're going?"
I stomped out of the room, still wearing my pyjamas and slippers. I don't need help. I tolerated him while we were together, I'll do the same just fine when we're apart!
I could still hear Kai yelling after me.
Just get away from the noise, Nya.
Jay's POV
As Kai spent the next few minutes shouting her name from the window, I just stared at the wall blankly.
Did I really ruin her life?
I mean, the answer should be obvious, right? If I hadn't yelled at her, she wouldn't have been desperate enough to meet and go out with that jerk.
I...don't like remembering that day. I've always pretended it was just another nightmare of mine.
I mean, I couldn't have possibly been so mean to a person I've loved for this long.
Right?
Well, it's all in the past now, I guess, along with her...boyfriend.
I still hate that word. He doesn't deserve to have that title after everything he's done to her.
Yes, I will admit that I got really jealous whenever I saw them standing close to one another, but this guy raised red flags from the very beginning.
But I can't help but think that I'm the abusive boy friend. I mean, maybe I really am her perfect boyfriend, but that doesn't mean I am her perfect boy friend.
I was always there for her, but it's not like I didn't have the intention of going further... I mean, I had a crush on her since day one, what was I supposed to do?
Be a better friend, I guess.
Doesn't matter. The first step to making her happy is to apologize. But then again, I don't think she wants to see either of us right now. Well, if we even knew where she was.
Wait.
"Kai, give me your phone," I deadpanned.
"What?"
"Just give me it!" I snatched it from his hand despite his protests.
Now, if only I can find the contact...
Of course it's in his favourites.
"What the heck do you think you're doing?"
"Planning a double date?" Well, more like a date with a third and fourth wheel.
"Jay, just give me the phone—"
"No!" I moved out of his way as I kept typing.
And...send!
"Nya should be back in an hour."
Kai lifted an eyebrow. "What?"
"You heard me. Now let's go and play Fist2Face 2."
"Are you crazy? Nya just ran off and you're acting like that?" he took his phone back, dialing a number. "I'm calling the cops."
"What, no!" I threw my arm in the air, tossing the phone onto his bed. "Trust me, Kai. She'll turn up soon."
"What if that creep finds her again, Jay? Then what?"
He was right. I did have that concern in me, but...I trust her. Both of them.
"Please?" I begged. "If she doesn't show up I'll let you shave my...everything?" Well, that sounded weird.
"First of all, ew. Second of all, you're literally the least manly man I know in all departments—"
"Hey!"
"And third of all, fine," he sighed. "One hour. If not, I'm putting you in the hospital."
I gulped. "Yes, sir."
